When Faye was younger she had imagined herself as an adult. Beautiful, successful, married to some wealthy business man or celebrity and living the high life. Part of her dreams came true, she was beautiful, she had been married, but that was as far as that went. She quickly found that there were certain lies that are never taught to children. Like finding true love that will last forever and being able to wake up in the morning easier than you did as a teenager.
So, at 7:45 A.M. Faye's goal was simple. Coffee.
The blonde pushed open the door of the teachers lounge and made a B-Line for the dark liquid sleep, her face falling when she saw the coffee pot was empty.
"Seriously?" She grumbled as she searched the cabinets for more to make. She hadn't been on staff long enough to learn the secrets and really wasn't looking forward to getting her fix so close under the bell. If she had to skip, it wouldn't be pretty.

Today Seiji didn’t have any classes at his college until late tonight and it was only one class, a lab class to be specific. He was doing pretty well in the class so was not really worried and all they had been doing was growing cells, so really he didn’t need to show up today. As such he got to do his job at the academy, and no he was not a teacher. He was in the Health Services department, specifically the Side-Effect Specialist, which fit very well with what he was doing in his college classes, as well with his natural talent with basically cause and effect. He was here for the fellow mutant students.
Help them in whatever ways he could, study, and find out whatever he could. If they needed it he would make things to help them better control their powers, keep them in check, or enable for their powers to not be as strong. Granted he had never actually tested such serums yet, no way he could. How could he? One they were still ‘humans’ so he could not just test things on them, plus he wanted to be sure of the effects first anyways.
He had been at the teacher’s Lounge earlier but had forgotten something back in his room. Having left his pet snake Akiko behind to find the coffee beans, since he noticed no coffee had been made and had forgotten where they were. A snake was perfect for the job with its really good sense of smell. The little Scarlet Kingsnake had slithered its way into the cabinet where the beans where and let Seiji know where they were via telepathy. He was headed back to the lounge now, but the cabinets where being opened, the sounds making Akiko curious as she moved close to the door.
The colorful snake looking right at the woman who could open the cabinet and flicked her tongue. If she could she would have smiled at the woman and said hello, but she was a snake so could not. Seiji entering the lounge just at that moment.

After checking the overhead cabinets with no luck, the blonde ended up on her hands and knees trying her best not to put on a show for anyone who happened to pass by as she searched the bottom cabinets.
The first cabinet was a bust, but when she came to the second cabinet she was met not only with the coffee beans but a GIANT ASS SNAKE flicking its tongue at her. She screamed falling backwards and sending the coffee beans flying through the air. Unsure if she should try to save herself or the coffee she ended up on her ass with the coffee spilt around her.
"DON'T MOVE BEAST!" She demanded as she scurried to her feet searching for anything to grab and kill it with. "Wait... I'm a fucking mutant." She prepped herself to freeze the shit out of the 1.2 foot giant snake.

Seiji witnessed it all, and wanted to try and catch the woman, but he was in more so shock at the fact the coffee beans were flying through the air. Plus the scream made him jump a little. You think he would be used to hearing people scream by now since this happened a lot. He carried snakes on him after all, and again a lot of people were afraid of snakes. You did that on purpose Akiko. Seiji scolded the snake from within its mind as he moved quickly over to the woman and to stand in front of her. Between her and his snake, since yes Akiko deserved to be punished for scaring someone, but she didn’t really mean it. She was just really friendly and wanted people to say what a pretty snake she was, but she went about it the wrong way.
"Easy there. I'm very sorry. That snake is mine." Seiji spoke fast as he held his hands up in front of the other woman. Akiko meanwhile, sliding up the back of his pants and moving quickly to get under the coat that he was wearing to hide. "She said she is sorry. She didn’t mean to scare you, just wanted to say hello." Seiji relayed the message, having modified it a little to sound less vain then how Akiko had originally said it. He gave a friendly but nervous smile, hoping that she calm down enough and listens to him. Snakes were cold blooded and a cold snake was not a good thing at all. "Why don’t you grab yourself a seat and I'll take care of the coffee Miss..." Seiji looked at her for a moment, he knew her face and her name, she was staff, but he wanted to hear her say it so he would not pronounce it wrong.

She was about to strike when a man jumped between herself and the snake startling her sending a few snowflakes shooting out of her fingers. Her heart was pounding, all this had happened so fast and she was sure that had he stepped in front of her a moment later, he would have had an icicle impaling him.
"It's fine." She answered a bit too quickly. "It's fine." Obviously the man was some kind of skitzo if he was talking for the demon beast. Or a shifter.... she'd known several of those and knew of some loser freshman her junior year or something that did something with snakes and always carried them around. She shuddered. What an awful gift. She was quite content with her own. Ice. People weren't afraid of that and she found the cold quite comforting.
"Wal-" She started to say her married name but had to correct herself, a pang hitting her chest. "LaBeau. Faye LaBeau" That was who she was again.
She looked over at the boy and laughed. Of course he was that freshman. She didn't remember his name but how could she forget him completely since he haunted her nightmares unknowingly.

This was one of the bad things about new schools: It takes a while to figure out where the hell everything is. Chloe was a pro at going to new schools; she had the good sense to set out for her first class period early this time. That way she could get horribly lost and still manage to stumble into the right place by the right time.
But this time, she didn’t think she would need the extra time. This time she was on the goddamn ball. And it felt good. She burst through the door and into… the teacher’s lounge?
She stopped, looked at the two other people in the room. Her tail nervously wrapped itself around one of her legs. “Uh, nope, I’m pretty sure this isn’t Ms. LaBeew’s first period English. I’m lost. Sorry.” Best she move on.
Just as Chloe started to turn around, she noticed something: “And that’s a snake.”
She promptly went back to turning around and getting the hell out of there.

Yeah, Seiji remembered this girl for sure. He had seen her couple of times while he had been actually attending the school as a kid. Well younger than he was now anyways. Still he could call himself a kid back then since he was a teenager and now he was an adult, working part time at the place he basically grew up and went to school at since the day he came into his powers. Akiko peeked her head out from the top right corner of Seiji's jacket to look at the woman who had basically threatened to kill her and flicked her tongue at her, taking in her scent. She was going to remember this woman and was going to keep an eye on her. "Nice to see you again Faye LaBeau. I don’t know if you remember me, but I’m Seiji Lockard." Seiji said offering out his hand to the other woman in a friendly manner. He had no hostility towards her yet, he was use to people saying they wanted to kill his snakes, so long as they did not fully act on it her was okay with it.
However Akiko was not as she hissed at the woman just as a student busted in through the door, clearly lost. Seiji's eyes were on her as soon as the door was opened, looking over her. She had a tail! Seiji was pretty amazed and very tempted to rush over to the student and ask her a lot of questions. Where was his note pad when he needed it to jot things down? He would just have to remember things in his head. He was about to move towards the student, but Akiko hissed again, still not happy with Faye, even more so because the woman was giving off cold, cold was bad. "No Akiko." Seiji fully distracted by his snake and he moved to urge her back under his coat. Only reason she didn’t put up a fight was because she was feeling a little cold and his body was nice and warm.

She took his hand, "Oh I Remember you. You make quite the impression." She said, her eyes not leaving the hissing snake. She wanted to spear it with an icicle so badly. She wanted to freeze it in a boulder of ice. She wanted to do so many awful things to the creature and she had a feeling it felt similarly towards her.
"Your talent is... unique." She hadn't met another person with it. She'd come across mutants similar to herself and was pretty sure disney now had a character based off her.
Her head snapped in the direction of the door when the student burst in. A tail. That was a new one. And then she butchered the shit out of her name. "La-Bow." She mumbled under her breath as she left again, calling her attention to the time. She still had some.
"Is Akiko your only snake?" She asked watching it retreat into his coat. Despite her hatred, she was curious, genuinely.

"Oh, thank you." Seiji said sounding a little confused on how he was supposed to take that, but was going to take it as a complement. He understood that he could have made quite the impression when he would be sitting class and a snake would be peeking out from under his clothing or sitting on his desk. He even used to use them to help him for studding and test. It was slightly cheating, but he had a lot of information in his head and sometimes had a hard time sorting things out without notes. So his snakes would help him remember and it was not like he even needed them on him.
He remembered how he laid out all of his books that would have had helped him on a test back in his room. Then he just ask his snakes to remind him of a section or help him out by having them read the books and tell him via his mind. Yes his snakes were able to read, and that was again due to their bond with Seiji. "Thank you. I think your power is pretty cool to. I have seen many others with it, but I still like that certain touch you have with yours." Seiji responded back to her, giving her a complement with a friendly smile. He was being honest and just telling her how he saw it. There were a lot of other mutants he had met that had that power or something close to it, and yes there was a movie with a person having that kind of power.
He was still tempted to go after the student to ask her questions, but instead went to grab the other bag of coffee beans and went to make the coffee. Since he knew that he needed it and figured that was also what Faye was here for. He made sure to put in enough to make a full pot of coffee, glancing over to her when she asked her question about if Akiko was his only snake. "No. The one you most likely saw me with back when we were in school was Ghost, but he is too big to carry around now. Then there is Saphira, Leevi, and Akiko; who you have met." Seiji informed her, not going into detail about what breed of snake they all were because he was not sure if she was that curious or not, plus he wanted to ask her questions. "So how have you been? You like teaching here? What--" Seiji went to start his barrage of questions but managed to stop himself and chuckle a little. "Sorry, one question at a time right?" Seiji asked, but it was more so a rhetorical questions.

She smiled, "Thank you. I like to think that I have my own spin on the whole ice queen thing." She chuckled going over to the counter to actually make the coffee she came in to get in the first place. At this rate she'd be heading to class half petrified and lacking caffeine.
"Wow so, four." She nodded. "I don't think I"ve ever known anyone else with snakes..." And she was happy for that. But she was also starved for friendship and Seiji and her already had common ground even if it was shallow. They had a place to start.
"I've been good. I mean... Coming back here was never in the original plan but who sticks to plans anyway?" She asked casually waving a hand around. "I mean. You know, did the college thing. Married and divorced by 26 so that's got to be a record." She chuckled watching the coffee start to drip into the pot.
Post by Seiji Lockard on Mar 28, 2014 17:28:52 GMT -6
Seiji nodded at the thanks, keeping the smile on his face. "No thanks necessary. I can in fact prove it. I have not come across any mutant who shared the same genetic mutation as someone else. Minus twins that is. Even if someone has a very similar ability as someone else, the genetic makeup is still different. It’s really fascinating and--- I'm sorry. Getting all sciencey." Seiji said with a chuckle when he picked up that he was starting to go off on a tangent. One that Faye probably had little care for, which was fine. He stood back and leaned against the counter, glancing around the teacher's lounge for a moment before looking back at Faye.
"No? Well snakes are up there in the top fears people have. I was thinking about getting a fifth but Akiko is still too attached." Seiji informed Faye, with a slight scowl on his face as he looked at Akiko who peeked out at the bottom of his sleeve at hearing her name. Yes, she was much attached, she was the last snake Seiji got and she never wanted to leave her masters side, unless it meant someone was going to pet her and call her pretty. The Scarlet Kingsnake looked over at Faye for a moment before disappearing back up Seiji's sleeve.
Seiji nodded his head in agreement at her words about it not being her original plan to come back here. It was not really his original plan to come back to the academy. He graduated, went off on his own for a little, did many different odd jobs, but then decided to go to college and come back and help out at the school. It was like his way of playing the academy back for being his home. Not all the kids that went here wanted to be here and Seiji didn’t really at first, but his family...adoptive at that; had abandoned him and basically shoved him at the school. He pouted now a little at hearing how she had been married and divorced. "I'm sorry to hear that Faye...if I may call you that." Seiji said, wanting to say more but had to think for a moment to word things correctly. "His loss right?" Seiji said with a smile and a slight chuckle, hoping that lighten the mood.
He fixed a button on his shirt, looking down for a moment before he heard her ask about him. What about him? Oh right, how had he been? "I'm pretty good. Had several different jobs, going to college now, and when I'm not at class I work here as the Side-Effect Specialist." Seiji said with a pleased smile, only recently haven gotten the position and was eager to get to work. Help some kids out. Study the blood samples he was given. "So have you at least been enjoying your time working here?" Seiji asked as he looked over to the coffee pot now, eager to have a nice cup of jo.

She took in the information. There still wasn't very much public information regarding the mutant race that had developed in the past couple decades and as a mutant it infuriated her. She hated having to keep her abilities secret for fears sake. Bellefonte had done a decent job on prepping her for the worst when it came to reactions and the one time she had ignored the warning was a mistake. It took her the rest of her college career to recover from that and convince her peers otherwise.
Had there been more information in the first place she might have saved her marriage. After all, her losing the baby was the ultimate cause and she was positive that the poor thing had froze to death. It was her own fault and she hated herself for it. She feared getting pregnant in the future and having her body kill another one of her potential children. But of course, her own doctor despite being highly rated wasn't able to prevent that.
"I prefer Faye." She affirmed, "and yeah..." She nodded firmly feeling the strain on her heartstrings "His loss."
"Wow... that must be really interesting. If i were smarter i think i would have liked to do something researched based but i digress." She chuckled trying to stay friendly. Friendly wasn't her usual and all the energy she was putting into it was exhausting. "Yeah. The kids are great... it's... rewarding. Plus it's nice to not have to hide."

The only reason Seiji knew the information he did was because of the samples he had been given and because of his position at the school. Side-Effect Specialist, in the health department of the school. He studies a wide range from how student’s powers affected them, how powers affected the people around them, and also how to find any...temporary cures. Say a person could not help to make people's ears bleed whenever they talked. Seiji when then study why this happened, how it could be prevented or lessoned in most cases, and then work on making something that could help. He was limited because of his own reasons behind that he could not just outright experiment on fellow mutants.
Sure some people in the government that knew of them would approve of it for the sake of 'learning' and keeping the mutants in control, but Seiji was not that type of person. He honestly wanted to help people, not take what they could do away; just help control it so they could live 'normal' lives. Seiji had no clue as to why her marriage didn’t work out, and he knew better then to ask, despite his curiosity. There was a time and place for everything, and in the teachers’ lounge was not really place to discuss such person things that Seiji could clearly see was a sensitive topic. This was why he dropped it and gave a nod. "Faye it is and you can call me Seiji or whatever you like really." Seiji said with a friendly tone like normal, he often got the nickname snake boy, and he didn’t really mind it. However he still preferred his actual name to a nickname. Yet for some nicknames where a connection, so he understood the concept behind it to a certain degree.
"Good that you enjoy your job. No point in doing something that you don’t like." Seiji said with a chuckle as he grabbed them both mugs and held out one for her, unless she had brought a person one, in which case he could just set the extra on the counter. "Yes, not having to hide is an added bonus. I'm sure one day people will be ready to learn about us, not any time soon, but one day." Seiji understood the human mind to a certain point. Knowing that people feared what they didn’t understand and fear lead to people getting hurt and bad things. He honestly preferred for mutants to stay a secret, because he was not sure how the masses would take knowing. "Faye..." Seiji went to say something but shook his head no and opted to be quite, he just got the vibe that him just getting his coffee and leaving her be would be for the best. She clearly did not like snakes and he didn’t want to make her uncomfortable.

Faye couldn't help but feel a wave of calmness being around the snake charmer or whatever the hell he was. There was something about him that didn't make her feel on edge. Perhaps it was the fact that his power controlled a fear of hers, it made her feel like her other fears could be managed as well. Or maybe it was his easy way of going about the conversation or that he hadn't asked further into why her marriage failed. It could be that he was seeing her, and really seeing her not just some tall blonde thing. In the past she'd loved her looks, she still loved her looks but she knew they were an easy mask for her to hide behind and until recently, when her life had been manageable she thought she liked that. But now that she felt so alone in the world and without direction, it was nice that someone was looking at her, even if he didn't have a clue. "Seiji it is." She smiled, her icy eyes showing a rare bit of warmth.
She took the mug with a nod. "I hope. I don't think that many of us mutants will be having normal kids... if we can at all.. and I honestly would like them at least to live in a world where they can dream." She said biting the inside of her cheek. It was a sacrifice many of them made for the way they were born.
Faye treated her coffee, adding a bit of sugar and a smidge of milk looking up when he said her name. "Yes?" She asked, though it seemed like he'd lost interest or changed his mind. "You Ok?"
Post by Seiji Lockard on Mar 29, 2014 18:13:24 GMT -6
He smiled at her going with calling him by his first name. She was older then him and in terms of ranking in the school, well she was higher up. At least he figured she was. He had only started working her and he was not really sure how long she had been working here. Either way he had respect for her so if she really wanted to be called by her last name he would have called her that, but she seemed fine with him calling her by her first name or he was fine with her calling him by his first name. Akiko was also fine being called by her first name; Seiji glanced to the area on the coat where she was hiding as he caught his snake’s thoughts. Such a attention seeking girl, Akiko.
"It does seem to be genetically based, there had only been a few cases where mutant parents have kids that also have mutant powers. So I can’t say for sure yet hot it effect offspring’s and reproduction." Seiji informed her and he went and filled his coffee mug, thinking for a moment of if he wanted bitter or sweet this time around. There was something in her tone of voice and how she said 'if we can at all' that had sent several thoughts and questions into Seiji's mind as he looked at Faye. He didn’t say anything about it however, tucking that away for a later time again. "At least for now staying hidden is the best thing. Possible having a state set aside for all mutants could even be in the realm of ideas in order for people to live a normal life." Seiji said, not really for keeping mutants and normal humans separate, but again he knew sort of how the human brain worked and he was thinking the best options to avoid the loss of life and cruel actions.
"I'm fine. Just starting to think a lot and didn’t want to bother you too much. I tend to make people feel a little uneasy because of the snakes and other things." Seiji pointed out with a smile as he went with having his coffee just black and took a sip of the pure bitterness in his cup. It was going to keep him awake, which was for sure. "Plus I don’t want to keep you from your class." Seiji added after his sip and gave her a warm friendly smile and just decided to go ahead and say something that was on his mind because of his earlier comment. "If you ever need any help or want me to look into anything for your specific ability, let me know. I am in the health field." Seiji said with a slight chuckle, just thinking of what he would look like if he was a doctor. He didn’t want to be a full blown doctor, but with how his schooling was going he might have ended up one. Not the kind in the hospital, but a doctor still and he could work in a hospital if he really wanted to.
