Quinn Marie Woods
FACE CLAIM: Claire Holt
---------------------------------
AGE: Twenty-seven
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
POSITION: Trainer
POWER: Reactive Adaptation - When the body adapts to dangerous or potentially harmful situations by changing physically, morphing in some way to protect itself from the threat.
Adaptations Included thus far-
- gills to prevent drowning (takes between twenty and sixty seconds to complete adaptation, as this is the time it takes until submersion)
- increased body temperature in frigid conditions (takes a minute and thirty-two seconds for regulation)
- decreased body temperature in suffocating heat (same as increased temp.)
- increased oxygen in high altitudes (at most a minute to adapt)
- skin changes to prevent severe burns (roughly takes about a minute and twenty-four seconds to cover whole body, less if only trying to cover one body part)
LIMITATIONS:
-This ability is only triggered in dangerous circumstances, meaning she cannot call upon her ability whenever she chooses.
-Adaptations exclude being shot, cut or breaking a limb
-This ability cannot adapt to any internal medical problems such as; heart failure, disease or brain damage.
-Training is only able to be done within a controlled environment of danger with a medical supervisor nearby in case of emergencies
-Practicing without supervision is prohibited in this case
SIDE-EFFECTS:
-Once the adaptation has taken its course, it lingers for hours or sometimes days depending on the adaptation which means that in some cases he needs to adapt to his adaptation in order to not further his pain or discomfort. Once the danger has subsided for long enough and his body understands it is no longer in harm's way, he can return to normal routine.
-Weak immune system
-Migraines and muscle pain
-Strange sleeping patterns (ranging from sleeping all day to not sleeping for several days)
-The main side effect to this ability is the pain, it can feel almost like physical torture, however it only lasts as long as the adaptation takes to complete itself.
“Miss Woods, always a pleasure. How long has it been?”
“Just a few years, though it does seem like an eternity, doesn’t it?” The tall blonde, settled into the chair, one leg over the other with her hands in her lap. She had a polite smile gracing her red lips, her posture couldn’t have been more straight if there were rods holding her upright. Slim elegance and a strong sense of pride exuded off of her as she looked at the older woman she remembered from her time back at Bellefonte Academy. It had been years, and yet the familiarity still held strong within her. Bellefonte would always be her home, and that was why she was back.
“It’s so nice to see you back. What have you gotten yourself into in the time that you were away?”
Quinn found herself smiling a little wider and she laughed quietly, “Nothing exciting, I assure you. Traveling around the world to the different academies, researching new ways of working and training students with new, different abilities. It’s all quite boring.”
“Oh yes, sounds positively awful!” The other woman laughed and Quinn joined in. “I can’t help but remember the first time I interviewed you for this position.”
There sitting in a chair, a woman sat. Her hair was dark, pulled back into a tight bun, glasses settled upon her nose. This woman was the woman that would either give the recent BA graduate the job that she had been dreaming of for years or she would deny her the opportunity. It was the most important interview Quinn had ever found herself in even though she’d been interning since she started college courses.
“Please have a seat Miss Woods,” The woman didn’t even look up, making Quinn feel even more uneasy.
She squared her shoulders, set her jaw and confidently walked to the chair, sitting as gracefully as she could. The blonde twenty-two year old crossed one ankle over the other and folded her hands in her lap. “Thank you for seeing me.”
“Miss Woods, you’ve been interning to become a trainer for about four years, is that correct?”
Quinn cleared her throat to keep her voice from cracking, “Yes ma’am. I’ve wanted to be a trainer since I can remember.”
“Your ability must have been difficult to get under control, please for the record explain how you manifested and the way in which you learned to control such a complex ability as yours.”
It was true, the ability that Quinn possessed had been one of the bigger reasons she admired trainers so much. The way in which she’d been trained had been specifically fitted to her and had been equally as complex as it was about to sound. “I was locked in a freezer when I was eleven while I was helping my parents at their restaurant. They didn’t know I was in there and the vents were so loud it was nearly impossible to hear anyone scream. I could have frozen to death or at the very least developed hypothermia as well as frostbite, but my body changed in a way that helped me survive. I did get a very bad virus and was sick for over a week, but that was tame compared to what could have happened before they found me.” The woman nodded and Quinn took it that she should continue.
“When I was recruited, they weren’t sure how to trigger my ability. It was sort of temperamental because certain cases of danger wouldn’t result in any change, while others it was nearly immediate. Eventually they discussed with my parents what the best training method would be for me and it turned out that the best way to trigger it was through near-death experiences. At all times I had my trainer who was a healer and one other faculty member or training intern who could intervene if anything went wrong depending on the situation I was put in. Eventually my ability began to understand the danger of a situation and it reacted immediately. That was how I got it under control. It was mostly trial and error in the beginning, but I think that everyone should have some sort of personal variable in their training sessions. Not every ability is the same.”
The woman nodded, jotting down a few notes on her clipboard. “How was your time at BA? Did you get along well with people? With your faculty members?”
Quinn nearly smiled, “Bellefonte has produced some wonderful relationships for me. I’ve made very close friends, the faculty has been thoroughly supportive of both my past and the present. You’ll see in my file that I was active throughout the school activities and that I’ve been on the gymnastics team since I turned thirteen.”
“How do you think that your personality will translate into being a trainer, even a mentor of sorts?”
This was a question she knew she would ace. “I’m a generally nice person, I get along with anyone and I don’t waste my time on those who do not like me. With that said, I believe that in training, you don’t have to like your trainer. You have to respect them and trust them to do their job and help you get control of your ability. I’m not seeking to be liked by those I train because I will push them to their full potential, just like I had to be. In the end, I guess all I can hope for is that they respect me and even come to like me outside of those rooms.”
At that the woman cracked a smile and nodded, “I do believe that is one of the better answers I’ve heard Miss Woods. I think you’ll make a fine trainer.”
“Who’d have known that you would come to be the trainer of those deemed untrainable?”
Quinn smirked, “No one is untrainable. I am quite excited to be back at Bellefonte, there is no place like home. I seem to already have my work cut out for me.”
