”Really? All of them?”
Tiana groaned and rubbed her face while she looked around at the multiple washing machine. From what she could see, every single one was taken or otherwise broken. She scowled at the few broken ones, Glaring at the “out of order” notes taped to them.
”Honestly, would it kill them to hurry up and fix these?”
Tiana knew she being impatient and that maintenance probably had more important things to deal with. Still her annoyance hardly cared for logic and empathy as she glanced through the machines while totting her basket of clothes. Eventually she found one with only a a minute of two left to the cycle. Sighing with relief, the moment the timer was up Tiana began emptying it to make room for her own clothes. However soon enough she felt eyes on her and glanced to the entrance of the laundry room. She spotted someone standing there and raised an eyebrow. She had no idea if it was the owner of the clothes she was currently moving, or someone else trying to do their laundry. Regardless she went back to emptying the machine.
”If you’re here to get a washer, you’re out of luck. I've got this one and the rest are going to take a while. If these are your clothes,” She held up a shirt to them before adding it to the pile, "Then consider me helping you move your stuff to a dryer."

Some people said that watching paint dry was the most boring thing anyone could do, Timothy was willing to put forwards waiting for your laundry to be done as a potential challenger, although these maths were also a strong competitor for the title... He sat there with a notepad, a pencil that had been badly warn down by use to the extent that it no longer had a rubber and a series of problems which he just couldn't seem to crack. Yes, this was a truly brilliant way to spend your Saturday afternoon... Leaving and then coming back later was a no-go, given the fact that he was currently a high school student with no part-time job and hardly any savings, he couldn't exactly afford to go out and replace them if anyone stole them or if they were otherwise misplaced. So, that left him sitting here with his homework, gradually learning to loathe whoever had come up with all this.
The small bit of surprise good news was that the laundry room was pleasantly empty given the fact that over half the machines seemed to have broken down or at least it had been up until a few moments ago. He raised his eyes slightly from his work to look at the girl, he'd seen her before, he believed they had a few of the same classes together and that she was in his year. He wasn't about to walk up to her and say 'hello' however partly because he didn't want to interrupt his train of thought as far as the maths were concerned but also because she was clearly frustrated (and voicing her irritation) and he really didn't want all that going on inside his head. So, he sat there, staying quiet whilst he finished his work and she struggled to find an empty machine, not that there was one right now...
He couldn't help but look back a few moments later when he noticed that she'd began to take his laundry out of the machine, it must just have finished. For a moment, he wondered why she was dealing with his stuff but realized it was unlikely to be a charitable gesture so much as to be able to get her own clothes done. With a sigh, he got up, leaving his homework alone for a moment. For now, time to rescue his laundry. Her response was well- Not exactly welcoming but she was kind enough to put them in a pile rather than simply dump them unceremoniously.
Bending down, he decided that he had better help rather than stand there like a moron; it was probably best not to try her patience right now. "Thank you." He added almost as an afterthought.

”Thank you.”
The fact the boy hadn’t made some snarky comment and thanked Tiana instead surprised her. She glanced at him while emptying out his clothes, her ire subduing somewhat at his unexpected politeness. She subconsciously began pulling his things out with a tad more care than she had initially. Once it was empty she put her own things in, glancing back at the kid. She noticed he’d been doing his homework.
”Which class is that for? You looked about ready to throw it into one of the washers.”
Once she’d finished loading the dryer, she shut the door and started the machine up. She wasn’t about to leave considering someone else might not be as gentle with her clothes. She also really was not in the mood for anything to get stole that day. Instead she headed for one of the chairs in the room and plopped herself down with a sigh.
”Now for the best part: more waiting.” She grumbled it under her breath before looking at Timothy. ”I’m Tiana by the way. Thanks for not being a jerk when I took your clothes out. A lot of others would’ve probably snapped at me.”

Timothy helped tidy the rest of his clothes away. He noted with a certain amount of relief that the girl seemed to have calmed down somewhat after he'd thanked her. Maybe his mother had been right about always being polite no matter what the circumstances were, it just wasn't always that easy... It was worth it, if only to have his stuff treated with a smidge more respect, not that he was particularly bothered, there was only so much damage you could do to t-shirts and jeans.
He turned back to look at his papers she had referred to. It was a fair bet that nobody was going to want to steal unfinished math homework, well, unless they wanted the answers that was and pinching his would have been a gamble to say the least."Math and I would chuck it in there then burn it, if I didn't have to hand it back on Monday." He was yet to meet someone who enjoyed doing homework - well, maybe some nerds might - but asides from them what teenager in their right mind liked doing that sort of thing for fun?!
He didn't attempt to help her with putting her own clothes into the machine; he'd made the mistake once and had been severely yelled at by a girl who had misinterpreted his genuinely well-intentioned gesture with him trying to sneak a glimpse at her underwear. Never again, it wasn't worth it. He looked at the small pile of washing in his arms, he tried to keep to a schedule as far as washing was concerned so as not to have the embarrassing problem of running out of clothes as he had done after his second week at the academy.
His eyes followed the girl as she went to sit down, waiting was never fun at least as far as dingy basements filled with washing machines were concerned. It did have the advantage of being 'quiet' as far as others went, which was always a welcome relief for the young telepath. "Timothy." He replied taking a mental note of the girl's name should it ever pop up in the future. "I think we're in a few of the same classes." Off of the top of his head, he couldn't think which ones but he was fairly certain he'd seen the girl hanging around a couple of times.
The teen shrugged at her comment about not being a jerk as if it was nothing. "I get the feeling that snapping at you wouldn't have been good for my health." He replied attempting - somewhat unusually for him - to make a light-hearted comment, it had been a while since he'd tried to chat amicably with someone and as such might very well have been a little rusty and out of practice.

"Math and I would chuck it in there then burn it, if I didn't have to hand it back on Monday.”
Tiana raised an eyebrow at his statement and couldn’t help but smirk a little, amused.
”You’d burn something that was sopping wet? Might take you some time.”
She couldn’t help but tease him slightly, although she understood what he meant. Math was certainly not Tiana’s favorite subject. She didn’t care how many times her teacher insisted that it was incredibly valuable to everyday life. It was a nuisance as far as she was concerned.
”Timothy. I think we're in a few of the same classes.”
Tiana frowned slightly and scrutinized Timothy in response. Now that he’d mentioned it, Tiana did find him a little familiar. She couldn’t exactly pinpoint where she’d seen him, but it must’ve been during class if anywhere.
”Probably. You do seem a little familiar, and I can’t think of anywhere else unless you frequent the kitchen often.”
Since Tiana knew the kitchens inside and out by now, she knew she hadn’t seen him in there.
"I get the feeling that snapping at you wouldn't have been good for my health.”
Eyebrows shooting up, Tiana was shocked initially. However soon she laughed, genuinely finding his remark hilarious. She ended up grinning at the boy, a slight bit of mischief twinkling in her eyes.
”Smart.” She remarked drily before shaking her head. ”Don’t worry, I try my best not to bite people’s heads off. Besides you’re in the clear since you seem nice anyways.” She shrugged. ”I try to be nice. Sometimes i fail, yeah, but at least I try. That’s what I tell myself anyways.”

It had been a while since anyone had teased him, he hadn't really taken the time to allow himself to be in such a position. Maybe today he was just in a good mood, he couldn't have said. In any case, he found a smile - admittedly only a small one - grace his lips. "Yeah but it would totally be worth it." He replied glancing at his still unfinished papers and briefly considering it as an option. Destroying the paper would be rewarding in its own way but whether or not his teacher would see the funny side of it when he tried to explain the situation was another matter. "I don't suppose you like math, do you?" He doubted it, she would be the first person he'd ever met who did.
Timothy shook his head at the suggestion that they'd met in the kitchens. He never went there, well not often in any case. "I doubt it." He replied trying to think of the last time he'd visited them. "Me and kitchens don't mix, unless you need to start a fire." His unfortunate tendency to set fire to everything he touched and to undercook the rest meant that as far as cooking for himself went he had resigned himself to either a salad or a microwaved meal.
He was rather relieved that she saw the funny side of his joke and didn't take offense. He even got a laugh, at least he could still get others to laugh. At least he was still considered nice. Had she met him on another day then she might have found him to be cold and offish as he usually was but everyone had their ups and downs. Her words did strike something of a cord though. "Yeah... I know the feeling." He muttered rubbing the back of his neck. "It's not always easy though." He thought back to his own issues for a moment but decided against allowing it to ruin his mood. "Well, for what it's worth, you pull it off very well Tiana."

"Yeah but it would totally be worth it. I don't suppose you like math, do you?”
Tiana giggled and shook her head at the boy. It sounded like more trouble than it was worth, but Tiana could understand the sentiment.
”I only touch it if I’ve got a ten-foot pole or a teacher forces me to do it. Otherwise I stay away from it. Sorry.”
Even when she did math, she wasn’t the best at it. It probably didn’t help that Tiana wasn’t a particular fan of it, but she didn’t care too much.
"I doubt it. Me and kitchens don't mix, unless you need to start a fire.”
Tiana couldn’t help but snicker a little at his comment.
”You a pyrokinetic, or one of those rare people who burns any food they touch to a crisp?”
She was teasing him again, but she really couldn’t resist herself. He’d essentially handed that to her on a silver platter in her own opinion. Besides she was genuinely curious about what ability he had.
"Yeah... I know the feeling. It's not always easy though.”
There was something in his tone that gave Tiana the impression they’d reached a somewhat sore subject. He didn’t seem so upset that she’d tread on a hidden mine, but she still had a feel their discussion was a tad touchy.
"Well, for what it's worth, you pull it off very well Tiana.”
She was actually genuinely shocked by the compliment. However soon a pleased smile came to her face, glad she didn’t seem like a bitch all the time as she expected.
”Thanks. You seem pretty nice yourself. Believe me, I’ve met a good deal of the typical jerks here at school. You don’t seem to fall into that category.” Although a twinkle of mischief appeared in her eyes. ”Unless you’re only being nice to me for the time being while really you’re some evil mastermind who somehow burns wet paper.”

Timothy could only shrug at her comment about math. It would seem that he wasn't in luck. "Well, it was worth a try. I've almost finished anyhow." He shouldn't have long left now, another ten minutes or so if everything went well and he didn't hit any hurdles in the form of a question he didn't know the answer to. The prospect of having this homework out of the way was an appealing one, it would free up his weekend so that he could take Argent out for a longer than usual fly. "I don't know who invented homework but they'd obviously never heard of 'weekends'" The teen declared still a little frustrated by the whole thing.
He shook his head negatively when he heard her question about being pyrokinetic. "Nah, as far as burning things goes I'm just naturally talented." He chuckled slightly thinking back to the last time he'd had to use a fire extinguisher when he'd set his food alight. All he'd wanted was some toast... The teen winced slightly as he suffered from a brief tinge of pain. Hopefully, she wouldn't pick up on it. His headaches could concern people. Still, at least he knew that she was genuinely curious as to ability, even if he hadn't wanted to find out. "I'm actually telepathic." He explained deciding to leave out the part about it being nearly constant, some people took offense, even if he told them that he could help it. "What about you? You've got powers right?"
Picking up on others thoughts was a strange thing, one which he wasn't quite used to and doubted that he ever would be. He was surprised by how shocked she was by what he'd said. Strange, in her mind people didn't seem to have a very high opinion of her. Maybe like him she was having a slightly better day but as far as he was concerned she seemed fine. "Well, it's nice to know that I'm not one of them." He never encountered said 'jerks' but then ordinarily seeing as he kept to himself, he was unlikely to bump into any of them.
A soft laugh escaped his lips at the idea of being described as an 'evil mastermind'. "Yeah-" He played along for a moment. "-and once I'm done with the math homework of the world, it's time for physics."

"Well, it was worth a try. I've almost finished anyhow. I don't know who invented homework but they'd obviously never heard of 'weekends’”
Tiana giggle and shrugged her shoulders in response.
”Probably a teacher, by my guess. Wanted us to suffer as much as they had to when teaching us.”
In all honesty Tiana got the idea of homework. It was only there to help students review and learn a subject more thoroughly through practice, which she understand. However that didn’t mean she’d necessarily like it.
"Nah, as far as burning things goes I'm just naturally talented. I'm actually telepathic.”
Instinctively Tiana felt herself tense up at the thought of a telepath possibly reading her thoughts. However she gradually relaxed again after thinking about it a little. It wasn’t as if they were talking about anything necessarily private, and so far Tim didn’t seem like a bad person.
"What about you? You've got powers right?”
Although that question had Tiana tensing up a little bit all over again. She always hated answering this, but didn’t want to leave the question unanswered.
”I have super agility. You know- flexibility and all that.”
Hopefully Tim wasn’t as much of a creep as some of the others at the school, although from their limited interaction Tiana wasn’t minding him nearly as much. The fact he’d been polite initially when Tiana wasn’t exactly in the greatest mood spoke volumes about him.
"Well, it's nice to know that I'm not one of them.”
Tiana smirked slightly and shook her head. She’d seen far worse back home, and some close seconds at the school.
”Yeah- and once I'm done with the math homework of the world, it's time for physics.”
Tiana laughed and shook her head again, grinning.
”Hey you do that,” She said, pointing at him, ”And I’d be happy to bake you a cake or something for free. Physics is almost as bad for me as math is. I could easily do without either.”

A teacher would be a logical explanation for whoever had invented homework. Timothy was neither naïve or stupid and knew that it served a purpose other than being the bane in many a student's life. His remark was intended to be humorous and judging by the giggle he got as a response, it might just have paid off. He'd forgotten how nice it was to hear and make another laugh and to be amused in turn, maybe Poppy wasn't as wrong as he'd thought that she was...
He sensed some of the brief concern that she had upon learning of his telepathy. He raised his hands slightly proclaiming his innocence - it wasn't as if he'd asked for it - although perhaps some clarification was required. To his surprise though, she seemed to relax a little afterwards. Still, he might do better explaining himself a little more. "I don't mean to, it's just that it doesn't really have an 'off' switch. You know?" He wondered if she was the same as him or if like so many others here she seemed to have at least some control over her abilities. "If you stand about fifteen feet away, you'll be fine."
So her power was super agility. "You mean like a cat or something? Now that sounds cool." He replied hoping that she enjoyed her powers rather than viewed them as a curse or a disability - which admittedly was his own case. He knew that theoretically there could be any type of mutant here and he was far from knowing all of them or just what their abilities meant. "If you don't mind me asking. Do you use it a lot?" It was genuine curiosity, there was a veritable canyon between someone like himself who tried to avoid using his ability as much as possible and Poppy Lockwood who seemed to relish in her powers. Presumably there were also those in between. He wondered what category someone like Tiana fell under.
Laughter could be contagious and Timothy couldn't help but chuckle a little at his own joke, if only the absurdity of it. Although he would probably gain quite the fan base for himself if he did somehow manage to rid the world of both physics and math homework. "A cake huh? Well now I'm definitely doing it. I take it you like cooking then?"

"I don't mean to, it's just that it doesn't really have an 'off' switch. You know? If you stand about fifteen feet away, you'll be fine."
Tiana sent him a sympathetic smile, calm once again. The fact he was actually telling her the range of his powers was sweet, although Tiana knew there was a chance he was lying. Still, he didn’t come across as the type to Tiana.
”Believe me, I understand. I can’t turn mine off either, although I guess it’s not as bad as hearing everyone else’s thoughts. I imagine you can pick up a lot of weird ones.”
Tiana didn’t even want to think of some of the odd thoughts that would go through some of there students’ heads. She shuddered involuntarily and quickly pushed that thought from her own mind.
"You mean like a cat or something? Now that sounds cool. If you don't mind me asking. Do you use it a lot?”
Tiana was more than relieved he didn’t react like most teenage boys did when hearing about her power. Although his question was actually a little surprising to Tiana.
”Yeah sort of, and I don’t have much of a choice since it’s not a power that I can ‘turn off’ or anything. Hell, usually it doesn’t even feel like I have a power anyways. I guess I like it though.”
Tiana shrugged with her reply. She’d never thought on it too much if she was honest. As she’d said, most of the time she forgot her power was even there. Part of Tiana still had a doubt that she was a “mutant” as her recruiters had claimed.
"A cake huh? Well now I'm definitely doing it. I take it you like cooking then?”
Tiana snickered a little at his response to her offer of cake. She brightened subconsciously when he mentioned cooking, although a smirk found its way onto her face.
”Considering I want to be a cook, I’d hope so.” She teased. ”I love cooking, so honestly baking a cake wouldn’t be too terrible a task.”

Timothy could only blush at the mention of 'weird thoughts'. Yes, some were very weird. Others were offensive. There were times when he'd just had to stop and stare at the person whose thought he'd picked up, wondering just why or how such things could even pop into their minds. Fortunately, whatever he'd picked up was generally quickly replaced by "Why's that guy staring at me". Still, it was enough to give him the creeps at times and wonder about the future of humanity others. "You don't want to know..." He muttered shaking his head from side to side, trying to removing some of the most traumatic thoughts he'd picked up from his memory. "People can be... I don't even think there's a word for it." He supposed that she'd likely be able to imagine some of the junk he picked up at times. "We're in a high school with a college attached on full of mutants. Pretty sure you can imagine some of the garbage."
Barely even noticing that you had a power sounded like Tim's idea of paradise. Depending on the side-effects of her ability, he would have swapped his for hers in a matter of moments. People assured him that he'd get used to it and it would stop bothering him eventually. Six months on, nope, it was still a pain. He defied anybody to be able to walk around picking up all the disconnected thoughts from those surrounding them and not be almost stark raving mad by the end of the day.
Timothy couldn't help but smile as Tiana snickered a little at his remark. "Is there a cooking club or something in the school?" He asked out of genuine curiosity and ignorance. He'd checked out some of the sports clubs and toyed with the idea of joining the football club but ultimately decided against it. He hadn't really looked at any of the other activities. "A cook huh? Sort of Michelin Star type stuff or more..." He paused looking for the right word. "Wholesome? You know, like the stuff you get in a diner or something." It was his way of asking if she was interested in more 'refined cuisine' or just wanted to cook for the fun of it and more for the general public.
"If you like baking cakes, you must have a lot of friends." He chuckled, imagining the following that such an activity would earn.

"You don't want to know… People can be... I don't even think there's a word for it. We're in a high school with a college attached on full of mutants. Pretty sure you can imagine some of the garbage.”
Tiana laughed again and nodded her head, although she had some sympathy for Timothy. She didn’t want to know, but it was too easy for her to think of them herself.
"Is there a cooking club or something in the school?”
Tiana nodded her head, although from what she knew it was pretty recently made. She’d made plans to join it at some point, but never got around to it yet.
"A cook huh? Sort of Michelin Star type stuff or more… Wholesome? You know, like the stuff you get in a diner or something.”
Tiana smirked at his question, although it did make her consider her answer for a moment.
”Almost a combination, in a way. I like making actual portions that would fill someone up, but I’d like to make fancier stuff. The whole process is fun- at least for me.”
Tiana never had trouble making complex meals that took extra time to prepare. As she’d said, she found the whole thing fun and occasionally a little challenging.
"If you like baking cakes, you must have a lot of friends.”
Tiana playfully rolled her eyes but smirked.
”Not really, actually.” She admitted with a shrug. ”I’ve got some that are actual friends, if you know what I mean. The others are more,” She thought of the word for a second, ”Acquaintances or whatever.”

Laughing felt good but more importantly hearing another laugh, not at him but with him. It brought a joy and pleasure that he hadn't known in a long time. Perhaps he should make more effort to get out and spend some time with others. Not a lot of people, he didn't think that he could handle that yet or maybe even ever but one or two would might be okay. It had been so long since he'd just relaxed and allowed himself to talk with another.
As he'd mentioned before, he wasn't the word's best cook. Food held little interest for him other than when it came to eating it. If he could, he wouldn't bother with cooking and would go to the restaurant for all his meals. Unfortunately, that way of life was neither good for his wallet nor his waistline unless he went for a salad. Still, simply though flicking through tv channels, he'd seen a few of the things cooked up by the world's best chefs and found them to be somewhere beyond pretentious and doubted that a lot of their clients left full. He was a diner sort of boy, always had been and likely always wood be. "So, after school, are you going to a cooking college or something?" He asked, unsure how one actually became a chef and if any formal training was actually required.
Usually, Timothy erred on the side of caution when it came to bringing up the subject of friends and things like it. For a moment, he worried that he might have touched on a sensitive subject. Fortunately, she didn't seem to be all that bothered, still the fact that she didn't have many friends came as something of a surprise to him. He'd misjudged her in that respect. "Yeah, I get you." He responded. Things were a little different right now to as they had been but back when he used to have a large social circle, he'd come to realize that he was actually 'close' to rather few of them. He didn't press the subject any further, not wanting to seem rude.

"So, after school, are you going to a cooking college or something?”
Tiana paused to consider his question, because in all honesty it was one she’d asked herself a few times. She’d thought about the possibility of leaving, because in all honesty she’d love to leave. However at the same time she could see the benefit of staying at Bellefonte for college since she was already there and it would be more convenient. Although Tiana wasn’t too sure how the cooking aspect of the school was.
”That’s a good question, although unfortunately I don’t have an answer yet.” Tiana shrugged. ”I’ve considered sticking around here and going to college, but I know I could get into a culinary school too. I’ve been talking with my mom about the whole situation.” Tiana paused for a little before glancing up at Timothy. ”What about you? What are you hoping to turn into?”
Tiana realized she’d actually spent a fair amount talking to Timothy but didn’t know all that much still. Although Tiana doubted she’d get his life story in forty-five minutes; she also doubted she wanted all that information in such a short span of time.
"Yeah, I get you.”
Tiana smirked a little at his response. It already told her a good bit of information, and she’s noticed he’d been surprised when she admitted her lack of a large friend group.
”I take it you’re not ‘little miss sociable’ too?” She questioned jokingly. ”Although to be honest that’s not necessarily bad. At least, I tell myself that.”
