Cassidy Anne Carstyn
FACE CLAIM: Danielle Campbell
---------------------------------
AGE: 23
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Demisexual
POSITION: College Student/Part-Timer at the local vet
POWER: Cell Regeneration/Biological Manipulation
The ability to heal herself and alter the biological makeup of another species (mainly small animals) and bring them to full health. She will need to spend time alone with no outside contact for a few hours to fully and properly heal. It takes longer for her to heal if the ailment is severe. Minor cuts and bruises often heal within seconds. When healing small animals, by placing her hands over the affected area or generally over the animal’s body, it is typical for her to absorb their ailments, which would consequently force her body to heal herself
LIMITATIONS:
Limited healing to small animals no bigger than a house cat
Limited to non-fatal wounds; cannot cure any diseases that have no known cures
Limited range; need to be in physical contact with the animal that needs healing
SIDE-EFFECTS:
Will take on the injuries of those she heals
Might take up a whole day’s energy if injury is severe
Will have to keep up a high calorie intake depending on the severity of the healing
Sudden muscle cramps and aches from previous healing
Permanent damage with overuse
Growing up, I never identified with any one fictional character from a book. Most of them had strong characters, which was something my favourite person in the world was. They were bold, sassy, beautiful and smart. Whereas I was always mousy, quiet, plain-looking and of average intelligence. It was easy for me to get lost in the crowd in school. People were always surprised when they realised I was part of the Carstyn twins because Adrian’s loud personality held no similarities to my quiet one.
I grew up not minding the anonymity. I relished in Adrian’s popularity because it meant the heat would be off me. I could go through kindergarten and middle school without the fear of disappearing into consuming friendships and I didn’t have to bother with where I fit in in the social hierarchy.
But what we lacked in school activity similarities, we more than made up for it with our equal love for dance. From a very young age, our mother, a ballroom dancing Goddess, instilled in us that love. We were both signed up for ballet at first but after different encounters in two different recitals, at a tender age of seven, I decided to become a figure skater. It was an oddly smooth transition, especially when it turned out that I had a natural talent. Coupled with a dogged determination, I managed to dominate the junior championships and almost went to the big leagues but when Adrian was called to join some school a million miles away without me, it dampened my spirits a little.
Okay, maybe a lot. Spending our twelfth birthday over Skype was not something I had wanted to go through. That did mess me up a little. Okay a lot. Enough for me not to be able to concentrate on my audition recital, resulting in a very nasty fall that was caused by the blade of my skates cutting through my jeans and into my skin, very nearly grazing my bone. What could have been a completely horrifying encounter at the hospital what with blood transfusions and a hell of a lot of sewing to be done was met with a genuine shock that there was nothing to be done. The gash had closed up, leaving nothing but dried blood that just needed to be wiped away with disinfectant.
That was when I was visited by the people who had taken Adrian away just a few weeks before. They told mom and dad that they had sensed they would need to come back because twins usually manifested together. Apparently. I guess I’ve always been a late bloomer but soon enough, I was whisked away to be with my other half and things were right in the world again.
Sure, I had to give up my dreams of going to the Winter Olympics someday, but after five years of rigorous training to control my abilities and then five more years of studying to be a veterinarian, I found a new calling in life. One that I thought would put my abilities to good use.
It wasn’t like I couldn’t still skate circles around the locals here.
