Carleigh Rose Davidson
FACE CLAIM: Alexandria Deberry
---------------------------------
AGE: 24, born June 18th 1991
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Homosexual
POSITION: Local - Make-up Artist
POWER: Aerokinesis
The ability to control, generate and absorb the wind. Carleigh has the capability to do so through her mind, which requires a great deal of concentration. Once uncontrollable and prone to changing with her emotions, Carleigh has had control of her ability since graduating from Bellefonte; it is second nature to her now. She can manipulate the wind by changing its speed, changing the current and air flow or its direction. Because of her ability, she feels at ease when it is windy out.
LIMITATIONS:
- The more wind she has to control, the harsher the side effects will be for Carleigh. Her limit is 65km/h.
- For Carleigh, aerokinesis requires a high amount of energy and concentration; it is not a involuntary power for her any more now that she has control over the ability.
- She cannot create wind out of absolutely nothing. There has to be at least a breeze in order for her ability to work.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- Since it is a mental ability, Carleigh suffers from headaches, ranging from minor aches to severe migraines depending on her ability use.
- It can also cause mental strain due to the concentration required.
- She also suffers from mild respiratory problems; it's likely asthma but she hasn't been officially diagnosed by a doctor.
- Carleigh tends to be flightier than most people. She has a hard time keeping focused when necessary and often "has her head in the clouds."
The beginning
Childhood was always something the blonde refused to dwell on. Originally born and raised in Santa Monica, California, which said enough about the sort of life she lived. A father who focused more on work than his family. A mother who was unable to leave any bottle of liquor more than half full, but more often than not they were empty. An older brother who was her childhood best friend but now, so distant he might as well be a stranger. It took Carleigh a long time to realize how dysfunctional her family was. How the dynamic and relationship was all built around money.
It was always about money.
Every emotion. Every feeling; it was all motivated and built on the foundational currency that made the world spin. It was hard not to buy into the system of the American dream. And it was how Carleigh lived the first twelve years of her life.A change in the winds
It happened randomly one day. It was a windy day down by the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Carleigh had spent the better part of the afternoon there with her brother. A small, insignificant fight spurred the ability. Emotions always had great capabilities to render Carleigh useless when it came to aerokinesis. That higher connection with the wind and its affects came to a peak that afternoon. A few angry words and the wind began to pick up.
All it took was one thought to literally throw a gust of wind at her brother.
It was something that she attributed to coincidence. It had to be. How else could something like that have happened?
Unexpected wind patterns continued for three days after the initial incident. It took a keen eye, but a recruiter from Bellefonte showed up to break the news that the change in the weather was due to the manifestation of aerokinesis. The recruiter told her family that she was to move to Montana immediately in order to properly begin training her ability.
She cried; her family didn't.My friends are everything
Carleigh never felt any pressure in high school to be anyone but herself; as an outgoing and extroverted person, it was hard to find her disagreeable. Her bubbly demeanour likely caused some friction for those who preferred someone a little less in your face, though. High school was a time for her to jump from social group, to social group, never really finding a place to settle down. A busy social life meant more distractions; the more the merrier was a mentality that the blonde always carried with her.
That never changed until senior year. Until her. She always seemed untouchable; a little out of reach. It wasn't until a group project brought them together that Carleigh could call Lucy Serrano a friend. Her best friend. To finally have someone to confide in. The rest of her friendships dwindled, the people that she only surrounded herself with to try and erase that empty feeling inside. It only took that one right person to help; she told Lucy everything. Afterall, it was only natural.
They were best friends.I kissed a girl
Carleigh had hooked up with a guy once.
Sneaking into a club while underage wasn't exactly the execution she was going for. But the blonde was looking for something fun to do that night, and the club was notorious for not properly checking id's. Adrenaline made its way through her veins as she scoped out the dark room full of pulsing bodies and lights.
He had bright blue eyes; the kind that almost every girl dreams of. He was fit, and he was charming in a naturally arrogant way. Carleigh went along with it, dancing with the stranger and following him out of the club that night back to his apartment.
She left the next morning feeling confused.
Two weeks later, she went again. This time, there was a girl. Carleigh felt drawn to the stranger in ways she never imagined possible. And this time, when they kissed, it felt... right. She had never been one to question her sexuality before, but this intense connection shared between two people was more than enough.
But she didn't tell anyone.Fear of the unknown
Graduation was a terrifying concept for the blonde, who had no idea of her future. While everyone busied themselves with college and job applications, Carleigh did nothing. She had no idea where she was going; no thoughts of a future possibility. That fear that she was going to be left behind when it came down to it. Going back home to a family who only communicated with her to make sure she was still alive and receiving extra money didn't seem like a worthwhile option.
So, she stayed.
Like others, Carleigh found herself in the town of Kalispell. She got herself a job at one of the local diners in town as a waitress. It was a job she was pretty useless at, but it was one she managed to keep for a couple years. As Kalispell began to grow, more places began to pop up including a make-up store. It was a long shot, but she applied anyway. With time and proper training, Carleigh grew to love the art; the art form of learning what worked best for a customer and helping them out.
Working the minimum wage job wasn't ideal, but it at least provided Carleigh a sense of purpose. Some guidance in her otherwise open and uneventful life. She told Lucy all about the new job and how excited she was, even if she had to choose between paying her rent late or buying groceries for the week.
That statement alone was enough for Lucy to hire her. On the spot, no questions asked.Life is waiting for you
The job qualifications didn't call for much; Lucy Serrano wasn't the type of person who actually required a make-up artist. It was moreso to help a friend out of a less than ideal situation. It was what friends did; help each other out.
Still, Carleigh went whenever required, or whenever asked to. Always with products that admittedly got more use from the blonde than the artist herself. Money was quick to burn a hole in her pocket, because there were always sales going on and new products to try out. There were still some months that she would make a desperate phone call to her best friend to ask for some help; mostly in the form of a payment for her rent.
Did she feel bad? Of course; nobody wants to be that friend. Carleigh felt guilty every time she had to make that phone call, even if Lucy never appeared to care. It was a burden to continually place on someone, an added responsibility for someone who was already so busy with her life and career.
But somehow, it worked.
