Rolling his eyes, Patch was just glad he didn't have to wear those scratchy uniforms anymore. He was surprised Penelope even accepted the job, but then again, it wasn't like she could choose her pieces. That wasn't how the school paper worked...right? "Sucks that you have to do stupid shit like that just to plump up your application. But come on...we both know they would be stupid not to drag you in."
As much as they ragged on each other, at the end of the day, Patch would always look out for his baby cousin.
"So hey, there's a party this weekend that I'm invited to. You wanna come? It's supposed to be pretty banging." He nodded, half expecting Penelope to refuse on the spot.

"I'm good," she agreed. "But sometimes I think they don't realize just how good I am." Was that arrogant of her? Perhaps. But she did have a talent for this and she more often than not felt that it was wasted. Then again, in real life, you had to do things you didn't like. Life wasn't meant to be a picnic after all.
Now she was one hundred percent sure her cousin had gone mad. Laughing abruptly, Penelope looked at him as if he was crazy. "Seriously?" She wasn't exactly the kind of person you took along with you to a party. She was socially awkward and hated most people. She was dull and blunt and not even one ounch of her being was charming.

"Nah man. That's your job." Patch pointed to her and smirked. "Bet you they won't even see you coming. Your application would hit them like a ton of bricks and they're gonna wonder why you didn't ask to go there sooner."
Her reaction to his invitation was expected and he shrugged with a chuckle. "Look, Uncle Lou told me to look out for you. This is the only way I know how. Humour me."

She had to smile at him for that. She knew she could do it, but she just wasn't sure drive and determination was enough. "Yeah," she said, nodding. There was little point in wallowing in self pity.
"...You don't look out for someone by sending them to a party with older boys," she pointed out. The idea amused her though. She'd love to see Patch have a teenage girl of his own. She was sure he wouldn't be nearly as careless then.

Clearly done with that topic, Patch was more than happy to concentrate on getting Penelope to agree to go to the party he was invited to. "The looking out part is me actually being there. I know you're set for Harvard or Brown or Yale or whatever fancy schmancy place after high school but live in the moment. Just once. One night is all I'm asking for." He grinned, his eyebrows raising in hope.
He knew she had a point, but he wasn't going to back down from the invite. It was a rite of passage, anyway, going to a party before graduation.

A frustrated sigh fell from the brunette's lips as she threw her hands up in defeat. She knew for a fact that she wasn't going to win this one. Patch probably wouldn't rest until he convinced her, so she'd might as well resign now and save them both a lot of time - and trouble.
"Fine, fine, fine," she said with a groan. "But don't expect me to converse with anyone, okay? Because so help me god..."

When she relented, Patch pumped his fist downwards in triumph. "Aww yeah. Whatever. You can stick to me and watch me make out with girls if that's what you're into."
Another customer came and Patch tended to them before turning back to Penelope.
"How come you didn't eat with me? And what time are you supposed to be back in school? Have you eaten?"

Rolling her eyes, the brunette slumped her shoulders in defeat. She already knew she wasn't going to enjoy this, but he looked happy, so there was that.
Moving off to the side to give the customer some space, Penelope looked down at the watch on her wrist. "I should probably head off right about now," she said as she looked over at Patch. "And I already ate while writing an essay earlier today for English." She had a bad habit of snacking because she rarely had the time to eat when she was supposed to.
"Text me the party details and I'll try to be there."

After thanking the customer, his attention was back on Penelope. He nodded in acknowledgement before shooing her off.
"I'll be waiting by your stoop the night of." He smirked. "Say hey to the uncles for me." He reached a hand out to ruffle Penelope's hair with a cheeky grin. "Go be a boring old student, you."

Cringing at the ruffled hair, the brunette wrinkled her nose and took a step away. "Yeah, yeah," she sighed, her hand waving as she moved towards the door.
"When I'm rich and famous, don't come asking for money." At that, she offered him a quick smile before exiting the shop and heading back to school to return to her every day life of being a invisible wallflower.
