Phillip Michael Banks
FACE CLAIM: Hugh Laurie
---------------------------------
AGE: 51
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
POSITION: Local (Founder and president Omni International Law Services Inc.)
POWER: Power Nullification Aure
Phillip's power works to subdue the the mental and physical properties of another mutant's abilities. The closer a mutant is to Phillip's proximity, the more difficult the use of their powers become until it's virtually impossible for them to work when nearby. Originally Phillip had to activate this aura but after being exposed to Sprite it increased in strength to the point where he lost the capacity to turn it off.
The aura isn't limited to just mental powers such as mind reading or psychic persuasion, but also affects physical abilities as well.
LIMITATIONS:
- The aura itself projects out to roughly 30' around Phillip. At this distance a mutant will notice a moderate uptick in the difficulty of not only activating their powers but also controlling them. At 20' or so a mutant's powers become extremely difficult to handle. Powers that are managed to be activated can run out of control, harming or affecting those nearby. Once a subject is within 10' of Phillip all but the most powerful of mutants have found it nigh impossible to even activate their powers, let alone control them.
- The aura doesn't project through anything as thick as standard building walls.
- This power affects the mutant specifically and not the power itself. Powers that can be used at a distance that pass through the aura will still affect Phillip as normal.
- This power cannot be projected, limited, controlled or turned off in anyway. It remains constantly active which could cause major problems for some subjects, depending on the nature of their mutation.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- Because of the constant aura, Phillip suffers from constant migraines bad enough to warrant the enlistment of a full time driver in case he's stricken with the malady while in transit.
- Extended exposure to the aura has revealed to increase the likelihood of certain types of cancers within those not carrying the mutant gene. Whether or not Phillip himself is rendered more susceptible to such maladies is possible, yet unconfirmed.
- Since being exposed to Sprite, the constant use of his power has given Phillip a moderate case of hemophilia. He actively avoids activity that could result in injuries and all but the smallest of lacerations in his skin requires medical attention.** Transcript Kalispell Evening News, Local Business Segment **
TRAVIS ODELL JR (Kalispell Evening News Business Correspondent): One only need look out their window to see Kalispell is growing. A number of high profile corporations have either been founded or have moved major offices to the area in recent years. Companies such as BanksCox Inc. have sprouted up and show major upticks in economic growth during the city's boom while established corporations like Helios Defense and Security of brought in state of the art facilities and helped spur on the city's financial windfall. Adding its name to that list is none other than Omni International Law Services Inc.
The multi-national legal conglomerate is moving its head office to downtown Kalispell where a brand new, forty story high rise is being built. Not only is Omni one of the largest legal corporations in the world, but its new home is more than double the height of the tallest office building North of the Rockies and in Montana.
I'm lucky enough to have secured an interview with the founder and president of Omni International, Phillip Banks.****TRAVIS ODELL (TD): Thank you for joining me, Mr. Banks. If you'll allow me to get right to it, Omni International has always kept its head office in New York, with regional offices in Los Angeles, Dallas, London and Paris. Why, now, did the decision come down to move here to Kalispell?
PHILLIP BANKS (PB): Because time changes all things. There's no greater bane to the continued success of a company than complacency. As the world around us evolves and shifts so, too, do the demands of consumers. We at Omni understand this and are merely changing with the times. Kalispell is turning into a social and economic hub and we wouldn't be very smart if we let our competitors come in and take hold, now, would we?
TD: You've made no effort to hide your affiliation with the controversial Bellefonte Academy. Would you mind elaborating some on your relationship with the Bellefonte family as well as the Academy?
PB: If you're looking for confirmation that I'm an alum of Bellefonte you only needed to ask. Yes. I attended Bellefonte Academy when I was a teenager, much like many of the people here in Kalispell. I've been close to the Bellefontes for years both in a personal and professional capacity. It's no secret the Banks family is one of the largest benefactors of the Academy.
TD: Do you feel your being a mutant has hindered the development of your company in recent years? Omni International stock has seen a moderate downturn since you'd gone on record as saying you were a mutant. Is this move to Kalispell an effort to inject some new life into the company?
PB: Mutant or not it makes no difference. I was offered no shortcuts when I founded Omni International. I worked my way up from nothing to build the empire you see today. My being a mutant gave me no advantages. After college I started as a temp for a legal firm and slowly worked my way up to practicing law and eventually a partner. I made the right investments at the right time. Dedicated myself to working harder than everyone else. No mutation gave me that. Is was hard work, long hours and sacrifice.
As for the financial stability of Omni, it's never been better. A slight dip in stock prices is normal through the life of a company. We've experienced worse downturns in the past and will probably eventually deal with worse in the future. The move to Kalispell was a long time coming.
TD: You have some family ties to the area as well, don't you?
PB: Yes. My son and daughter are both graduates from Bellefonte. Work has a habit of getting in the way of family and friends. While the decision to move Omni to Kalispell was purely a business one, I would be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to being closer to my children.
TD: What do you say in response to the criticism you've received in recent months in the wake of your public divorce? You and your now ex-wife settled out of court for an undisclosed amount and this isn't the first time you've gone through a high profile divorce. How much did that factor in to your decision to make the change?
PB: We're done here.
