POWER: Attack pheromones, enhanced danger sense

Argos’s body produces an “attack” or “alarm” pheromone, similar to that of domestic wasps. This pheromone mobilizes an entire nest to attack predators when one member of the hive is injured, and Argos’s power acts in the same way. The pheromone is triggered when he feels threatened, seeping from his skin and driving anyone else around him to subdue his attacker. His pheromone causes alarm and defensive behavior, and escalates into violent rage depending on the level of threat the aggressor presents to Argos.
Regardless of who they are, at it’s height, the ones affected by his pheromone will brutally attack the person in question until they are no longer a threat.

His secondary ability is an enhanced sense of danger. Argos is very sensitive to shifts in voice pattern towards more aggressive tones, more aggressive body language, e.t.c. He is highly aware of his surroundings.


LIMITATIONS:

Argos cannot control his pheromones. Their production and strength is based upon his emotions, specifically negative emotions associated with survival, such as unease, suspicion and fear. The higher these emotions, the more potent the pheromone.

Argos cannot control the actions his pheromones instigate, nor can he prevent them. If he’s experiencing fear towards a subject, even if he doesn’t wish harm on them, he cannot stop those affected by his ability from killing the subject.

His pheromones are only active as long as the trigger emotions remain. Once Argos calms, the pheromone production does as well, along with their effects.

The radius of effect begins at a meter a second, and can extend to about an 11 meter circle radius around Argos before the pheromones become too dispersed in the air to have significant effect.


SIDE-EFFECTS:

Argos suffers with insomnia, since the smallest unusual sound can stir him from his sleep. He often has to rely on sleeping pills or natural remedies in order to get a full night’s rest. He’s developed a calming nightly regime for when he spends the night in unfamiliar places, which aids his chances of a good night’s rest.

PERSONALITY: 

Outwardly, Argos is a charming gentleman with a touch of a egotistical personality. He’s warm and inviting, and tries to come across as a welcoming individual. He’s talkative, and enjoys a playful flirt with both sexes. He’s generous, and will go out of his way to help others in need, often giving away money to charities or taking a personal interest in helping people he feels deserve it get off the streets.

Below the surface however, lies a darker heart.
Argos is a man who feels he has seen some of the worst aspects of human society. It’s hardened his heart, and he can be calculating, harsh, and at times some of the things he says or does could be described as cruel. In his eyes however, everything he does is not for himself but for the benefit of others, for his fellow mutants and for HORNET. Argos craves control within any given situation. Being out of control runs the terrifying risk of flaring his negative emotions, which in turn triggers his pheromones. He feels he either has to get people to like him, or fear him. He takes little delight in harming others or being intimating unless he feels the person in question deserves it.
Despite his position and his drive, Argos doesn’t crave power for himself; He merely sees what he’s doing as a necessity for mutants as a whole. He feels he has the power and influence to change the world, and in his mind, that means he has the responsibility to do so, and he isn’t afraid to go to extreme lengths in order to achieve that; he truly believes what he does is for the greater good. He can anger quickly, but doesn't always show it; If someone really rubs him the wrong way, he's not past exacting some form of revenge. 

Argos is not afraid of his ability. He views it as a tool, as a part of himself. When in public, he surrounds himself with others or remains in busy public places as a defensive mechanism; He doesn’t enjoy the violence his ability can create, but if a threat should be made on his life, he feels safer surrounded by others.
When at home, he either surrounds himself with people he has little attachment to or only those he truly trusts; He doesn’t want to risk being harmed or killed, but at the same time doesn’t want to risk someone he cares about being swept up in his pheromone’s effect should a threat be made to him.
Argos has developed a number of regimes he follows in order to help keep himself calm and relaxed. He doesn’t drink alcohol for fear of what the consequences could be; He instead drinks herbal teas or other warming natural beverages. He avoids unhealthy foods, and every morning performs a number of relaxation breathing exercises. 

SECRET(S): 

He has secretly put into research a serum which would make those injected with it immune to his pheromones, which he intends to use on his sister and his friends, with or without their consent; This however so far has proven a failure.
There is also a number of rather underhand incidents HORNET may or may not be involved in.

CHILDHOOD:

 Wren Medical.

A name known worldwide for medical research and development. It’s founder was Andrew Wren, whom after marrying his wife Agatha, gained a son and heir to the global enterprise.
Argos Digby Wren.

Argos’s early life was the same as many privileged young children; He grew up kept relatively separate from his parents, under the care of a nanny. Despite being born in America, Argos spent most of his early life in England, where his Mother’s family were based.
At the age of five, his baby sister was born, Pippa Wren. Shortly after, Wren Medical’s future took a dark and uncertain turn. One of the company’s main research centers had been found to be disobeying a number of safety regulations, which resulted in the deaths of five lab assistants. They lost a number of government grants, as well as a number of their other research centers being shut down for similar code violations.

Their stock took a violent tumble, and Argos’s life shifted. His nanny was dismissed when he was eight, and he and his sister were taken from the home they’d grown up in and brought to America, to be raised officially by their parents.
Argos didn’t take to this change too well, often acting out childishly.

The company continued to decline, and as it did, Argos’s father Andrew began suffer. The pressures and demand of his failing company teamed with the gradual break up of his marriage became a heavy toll for the CEO to carry, and he turned to drink.


ADOLESCENCE: 

At the age of 14 Argos’s Mother had been arguing with his drunken Father when he struck her, with such force that he sent her to the floor. Argos stepped in between them, only to also be struck across the face. As he looked up at his towering mass of a Father, for the first time, Argos was terrified of him.

Moments later, his Mother whom had gotten to her feet, rounded on her husband with a knife taken from the knife block. With violent rage she stabbed him, much to Argos’s horror and terror. Once the man was on the floor, his Mother dropped the knife, shrieking that she didn’t know what came over her.

The housemaid called the police, and Agatha was arrested.

Shortly after, the Vice President of Wren Medical along with a representative of Bellefonte Academy visited Argos, who was in the care of the state along with Pippa, and revealed that the boy was in fact a mutant, and that it was in fact him, through no fault of his own, that had caused his Mother to kill his Father. Hoping this meant he could free her, Argos begged to be taken to visit his Mother.
Argos’s visit to his mother was however short lived, as his reveal that it was some sort of chemical he was producing that caused her to murder her husband brought the built up misery and fear into a full blown break down. She shifted her blame to her son, announcing him as some sort of monster. Despite his pleas, Agatha refused to speak with him further; She has since denounced him as her son.

With Argos still not of age, the company was handed over to a governing council led by the vice president, who would see to the stock control and the general day to day running of the wounded but still expansive Wren Medical Empire.
Argos and Pippa were both taken into what Argos at first believed was the care of the state, with the siblings separated. This hit Argos hard, although the pair were allowed communication through phone calls and letters.

He often would ask to leave the “protection program” to be enrolled at one of mutant schools, although this request was constantly denied; The excuse being that his power made him not just a threat to students, but anyone else who stirred his negative emotions.
The Protection Program was seemingly built around a military like reqiume, where Argos took part in a strict number of physical activity tasks along with general day to day teaching and education. Anyone who interacted with him wore some sort of defense to his pheromones, generally chemical suits, leaving the young Argos feeling isolated. Throughout this time he suffered through frequent physical examinations,
With spinal fluid taken from him as well as samples of blood and skin from high accumulations of the pheromone’s production glands, leaving him with permanent scarring. Over the years he was also trained in controlling and calming his negative emotions, since it was established fairly early that he could not control the production of his pheromone.

Eventually it was revealed once Argos had turned 18 that the “Protection Program” was in fact something set up by the Vice president of his Father’s company in order to research Argos’s ability for the potential use of the military. In exchange, Wren Medical Enterprises was given the majority of government military contracts and grants, sending their stock through the roof… And as the now inheritor of the entire company since he’d come of age, Argos was the head of it all.

As long as he took the few fluid and skin samples taken from him over the years all in good grace.

Argos seemed to accept this fact fairly smoothly, although inside he was seething. The people he’d trusted… His mother, the vice president… Had all turned against him in some form simply due to the mutant gene how active within his body. The government had so readily put him through pain and test after test just to further their own selfish needs.


ADULTHOOD: 

The recruiter of Bellefonte had been convinced that the program was in Argos’s best interest, and on the grounds that Argos be brought to the school for his later school years, didn’t push for the boy to be brought in earlier. They had not been told of the military connection.

Now the CEO of Wren Medical, Argos willingly chose to go to the Academy, eager to see his own kind. This was the first time he’d truly been able to flourish, his personality growing from the quiet, calculated boy to a more confident, almost charming young man. Despite his personal growth, the unfair cruelty he’d endured at the hands of selfish men under the guise of good intentions still burned a hole in his heart. He graduated from college, returning to his position at his company.

Over the coming years, the council continuously tried to manipulate the CEO, always with the threat of announcing what he was to the world if he didn’t do what was best for the “company”.
That changed rapidly with the announcement of mutants globally. Seeing it as some sort of sign, Argos fired his entire council, employing a new sect of people, all mutants. He also changed the name of the company from WREN to HORNET, dropping all contracts with the government and instead focusing development and research on the mutant gene, providing charity for mutants and taking those that were desperate in, training them for employment within the company.
He has since moved his operation to Kalispell, since it holds a high concentration of mutants, and contains the school where some of his happiest memories came from. He has built his own large mutant focused hospital and research centre, as well as a number of HORNET mutant charity centers.

The new age was sure to bring a new racial hatred. Humans by their nature are cruel, and fear that which they don’t understand.
But HORNET will be there. To stand by the side of the innocent should a war be spurred by the cruel acts of selfish, ignorant people.
