Lynette Isabel Chevalier
FACE CLAIM: Bridget Regan
---------------------------------[/div]
AGE: 27
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Unsure
POSITION: Physics Teacher
POWER: Botanokinesis
Those with Botanokinesis have the ability to manipulate plants. They can shape and manipulate plants, and in some cases even create. They can also mutate plants by rearranging the DNA structure, and revive withered or dead plants. They can also use the chemicals within plants to heal people or object, or manipulate their properties for a wide range of effects.
Lynette's own abilities include being able to grow or shrink a plant, and apply mild mutations (i.e.: change the color of a flower's petals or make a plant grow thorns). She cannot largly mutate a plant (i.e.: turn it into a plant creature as seen controlled by, say, Poison Ivy from Batman). Also, while she is able to enlarge a plant's growth and therefore make it bigger, larger plants (i.e.: a redwood tree) are harder for her to manipulate and take more time (i.e.: Thirty minutes or more) to make move or do what she wants. Solely focusing on one plant while maintaining direct contact (i.e.: "skin" contact) makes it easier to manipulate even if it is larger.
Lynette can heal a plant as well, but it is not instantaneous. She has to nurture it back to health both while using her powers and doing so without them (i.e.: watering the plant, getting it sunshine, etc.). Depending on the amount of damage done to a plant, it will take time for her to repair it (i.e.: two minutes or so for a scratch, an hour or so to regrow the head of a flower). She can't bring a dead plant back to life. Burnt plants are also far harder for her to repair, and take much longer for her to nurture back to health.
Lynette's abilities are mainly due to telekinetic force, but have a touch of "empathy" from chemicals coming off the plant to mingle with her and tell her the "mood" of nearby plantlife. Her own hormones feed into nearby plants as well, occasionally making them mirror her mood. This is an additional side effect of Lynette's where plantlife with extended exposure to her (i.e.: a week) gain a sort of "sentience" and can react to her feelings (Explained in Side-Effects.).
LIMITATIONS (As applied to Lynette):
- Can’t mutate plants beyond their natural type (i.e.: turn a rose into an apple tree)
- Can’t create plants from nothing; requires already existing plants
- Can’t manipulate an enormous amount of plants (i.e.: an entire forest or even a quarter)
- Can manipulate plants on a larger scale (i.e.: a whole garden) for a max of 45 minutes before falling unconscious. Smaller scale manipulation (i.e.: a single flower) is far easier
- High levels of radiation in a concentrated area may cause defects in the ability.
- Without plants, there is nothing for the power to manipulate- therefore rendering it useless
- Range of 20 meters (radius)
- Direct contact (skin contact) makes ability easier to use
- Requires mental focus, especially with larger plants
- Can rapidly grow (enlarge) and nurture plants back to health. The botanokinetic cannot, however, revive a plant from death. "Healing" requires powers along with normal nurturing (i.e.: watering and sunlight) to return to health. Burned plants take much longer to heal
SIDE-EFFECTS (As applied to Lynette):
- Plant Empathy: Can sense the “feelings” of plants within range. The feelings can influence the botanokinetic’s own feelings.
- Consequence: Mass plant death (i.e.: forest fire) can cause immense pain to the botanokinetic. Small plant death (i.e.: a flower) only causes slight irritation (i.e.: small stinging sensation)
- Fire Phobia and Weakness: Very weak against fire or fire manipulators. Due to the empathy shared with plants, the botanokinetic has a natural phobia of fire.
- Ice Weakness: Weak against ice or ice manipulators. Ice or frost can slow the ability to manipulate plants, hindering the botanokinetic. Cold temperatures will work the same.
- Sun and Rain Affinity: Almost instinctual affinity for sun and rain. Due to boyanokinetic’s empathy with plants.
- Exposure Caused “Sentience”: Continued exposure to boyanokinetic’s power and presence over a period of time (i.e.: a week) can result in a developed “bond” between human and plant, making the plant respond to botanokinetic’s mood (i.e.: droops and withers when sad, blooms when happy).
HEIGHT: 167.64cm (5 feet, 6 inches)
HAIR COLOR: Auburn
EYE COLOR: Brown
MISC: I confess, my clothes tend to fall into the range of “preppy” or “business casual.” I enjoy blouses and I enjoy slacks, although skirts are nice as well. If I wear jewelry it’s minimalistic and simplistic. I don’t like wearing a lot of jewels or anything. I don’t have much jewelry anyhow.
When I’m not at work I normally wear loose fitting clothes to unwind. They aren't exactly fashionable but I’m mostly aiming for complete comfort with them. Other than that, there’s not much else to say!
PERSONALITY: What am I like? Let’s see now. Most would describe me as bubbly I think. I do try to be as nice as I possibly can. Alain says I can be too nice at times, and some people can take advantage of that. I like to think that wouldn’t happen, but I’ve been called a little naive as well.
I have to include clumsy if I’m talking about myself. Everyone in my family would agree that it defines me. At times I’ll fall for no reason! Olivier says a blade of grass could trip me, and part of me believes it. Disaster likes to follow me wherever I go, especially if I’m carrying something.
I like to think I’m patient, but occasionally I will have a bit of a tantrum. I really shouldn’t but I’m not a saint. Sometimes I can’t help but get a little angry. When that does happen, I normally go off by myself so I don’t upset anyone else.
I’m not the biggest socialite, but I don’t think I’m antisocial. Parties and the night life aren’t my cup of tea, but I’m more than happy enough to spend time with my friends. Well, the few that I have. As I said, I’m not the biggest socialite so I don’t meet many people. Although I’m fine with the friends I do have. Frankly I’m not sure where I would be without them, or my family.
SECRET(S): I confess I wear teddy bear pajamas to bed; baggy fluffy pants, oversized shirt and all. It’s really embarrassing.

CHILDHOOD:
My childhood? Well alright then.
I was born in Puglia, Italy along with my twin Olivier. Alain and Neville were already born by that point, Alain older by three years and Neville by one. My father was a private jet pilot who had stopped in Italy with one of his employers for two weeks. That’s when he ran into my mother, who worked at the Ristorante Grotta Palazzese. She was working when they met, and according to my father: “very sarcastic and cold.”
That must’ve been just what he wanted however, because apparently he went on to “woo” her. My mother eventually gave in, and the extension of time on my father’s stay ended up in their marriage. It was almost like a fairy tale, only my father unfortunately had to leave only a few days after. Still, they kept in contact and he would always come back.
Growing up in Italy was wonderful! Other than the sights, I think I owe most of the fun to my family. My brothers were, of course, outrageous. Olivier and I are often called the tamest. We think we got most of our personality from our grandmother. At any rate, Alain often used his seniority to get the rest of us into trouble. We always ended up getting punished, unless father was home. Then our mother was too happy to really care unless one of us had gotten hurt.
All in all, I like to think I had a pretty decent childhood. Perhaps with a big family and a more often than not absent father, but a good one nonetheless.
ADOLESCENCE:
Adolescence. Now this was where my life got more interesting.
I attended school along with my brothers. I will admit now, that I never had any romantic interests at all. Part of it had to do with my brothers, I suspect. Being the only girl out of six had both its ups and downs. I was protected, but perhaps a little too much. Still, I didn’t feel anything of a loss. As I said, I wasn’t too interested in romance. What I was interested in, funnily enough, was physics! Well, physics and plants, although I think the latter is a given due to my powers.
As for my love of physics, I attribute it mostly to Mr. Sapienti. He made physics so much fun! I wanted to be like that; I wanted to make learning fun too. Mr. Sapienti was very supportive, as was my family. However I ran into a problem when my powers manifested. Although I wasn’t the only one, mind you. My brother manifested on the very same day.
We were both 16 when it happened. I was luckier than Olivier, I was at home when it happened. I had always been fond of plants and gardening, mind you. I loved nature and spent much of my time outside. It came as no surprise then that I manifested while once again gardening. I was lucky; all I managed to do was grow a few flowers to a far greater size. My mother took me inside once she had seen. We got a phone call only a few minutes later. Olivier had made the grass grow over everyone else’s feet during calcio.
It was only nine days later when men came to take my brother and I away. My mother was livid at the thought, and even called up my father to speak about the matter as well. In the end, we went with them to a school called St. Cadou. I will not lie, it was terrifying. I was never more thankful for Olivier then I was in my time at St. Cadou. Luckily we got to transfer out after three years.
ADULTHOOD:
After Cadou, Olivier and I were closer than ever. I’m not saying Cadou was a horrible school! By all means, it was great for art and such. However, it was far too strict for me or my brother’s tastes. Instead we went to St. Bethany in Manchester. After Cadou, it was like a breath of fresh air. We made our own group of friends and got better control of our powers. Since Olivier and I had the same powers, we often got to train together. It was wonderful getting to track each other’s process. We got to tell the rest of our family how everything was going.
We tried visiting often, but it was wonderful once we finally got to go home after our schooling was done. Olivier went down the same route as I had, although he taught chemistry instead. We both agreed to go back and teach at St. Bethany’s, to give back to the school that had helped us so much. It was hard leaving again, but our mother didn’t fight us nearly so much this time. We weren’t being forced, it was our choice. I think she had a far easier time accepting that, even though it pained her.
Working for St. Bethany was a wonderful experience. Not only could we give back, but neither my brother or I had to worry about revealing our powers. That was definitely a plus to our job. I confess, I used my power much more freely and willingly than Olivier did. My office was more often than not covered in plants. It never hurt the room I assure you! I was always careful of that. I only wanted to make my office feel more comfortable since I had to spend a good deal within it.
Life was good for a time up until there was the big reveal at one of our sister schools. Not too long after that, the knowledge of mutants spread. It was a little scary, I’m not going to lie. Even scarier then when Olivier and I got sent to St. Cadou’s. Thank heavens there wasn’t much panic. It wasn’t until SPRITE came along that things got chaotic. Powers waxing and waning or changing altogether! My own powers had taken a hit, heightening further. It was hard, but with Olivier’s help I managed to get them under control again.
After that experience I discussed wanting to transfer to Bellefonte. My brother and my family were shocked, to put it mildly. Last time our family had parted, other than my father with his job, it had been two of us together. If I did this, it would be just me. Everyone else was against the idea, but I eventually called up my father on the issue. He reacted much the same way, except he let me speak. I explained to him that I want to go to Bellefonte because I wanted to try and help. Maybe that was selfish of me, thinking just one person could make that much of a difference. I didn’t really think I could, but I wanted to at least try to help. I had never been to the U.S. either.
After an hour of talking to my father, he eventually agreed to let me go. Luckily enough, he was heading to the U.S. next. I made my arrangements and said goodbye to the rest of my family before leaving. It was hard saying goodbye, although it was the hardest to say it to Olivier. After all we had been through together, I felt like I was being torn in two leaving him. He made me swear and promise numerous times that I would stay in touch, else he would come find me and bring me back home. I swore he wouldn’t have to, but I would love a visit from him at any time.
SAMPLE:
“Oh hush, Aaron! You don’t know a thing about passion, let alone being the ‘master of passion.'”
Joan shook her head at her friend. He had expected her comeback and gotten just that. Turning away from him, she walked over and reclaimed her seat on the couch. Some hair came loose once again, and she idly fixed it as she glanced over to her right. An eyebrow was raised, already expecting his reply.
“Don’t you even think about mentioning how I don’t know anything either. We’re both in the dark, alright?”
Her defense made, Joan smirked and crossed her arms over her chest.
”Actually I wanted to talk about Sarah.”
Joan sighed and turned her head, her expression becoming pained. She knew what was coming, the same rant he had been having for months now. It was always about Sarah; an infinite argument over who her sister was dating and who she was not. Joan stared at the floor intensely, her eyes gradually moving back towards her friend as she spoke.
“Aaron please, not this again.” She emphasized, pleading. “No matter what you say to me, I can’t change my sister’s mind! I know you hate Greg and I’m not very approving myself but,” She paused, trailing off for only a few seconds before pushing on, “But you need to stop this. If you really want to talk about this then talk to Sarah! Tell my sister how you feel! You’re being such an ass about this, and-“
”How long have you known your sister was pregnant?”
It was like the needle scratching on a record. Joan stopped talking, the world around her going quiet. She met Aaron’s eyes, her own widening to the size of dinner plates. Her mouth felt like it was filled with ash and her throat gripped in icy claws. The coldness in Aaron’s voice alone was enough to seize her heart, but his words had stopped it dead in it’s beating. Eventually it began beating again as the words registered, but with each pump came an ache of anger mixed with betrayal.
“Sarah is pregnant?"
