She sat across from the man, her brown locks neatly tied into a braid that hung off her right shoulder. Her eyes were vivid and filled with mirth. "Good morning," she greeted him with a casual wave. Everything about her was relaxed - everything from her pose to her facial expressions. She was calm. She felt calm."Good morning, Miss. Rhodes," he greeted her in turn. "So, you would like to buy this establishment, is that correct?"
The brunette nodded and folded her hands neatly in her lap. "Yes," she said, as she nodded once more. "I would like to turn it into a bakery called "Outside the Breadbox." She didn't feel the need to continue, but the man looked expectantly at her and she smiled. "I've loved baking for as long as I can remember. I think it started as a fascination with watching my mother and my grandmother and the graceful way they held themselves in the kitchen. Call my family old fashioned if you will, because they are. My father was a hard working man and my mother stayed at home and took care of the kids and put dinner on the table, along with washing and sewing our clothes - and making sure the house was clean and tidy. I guess, I've got a lot more parts of her than what I'd ever care to admit. She's amazing though. She's taught me so much about the world and what to expect from it. ""I see," the man replied, nodding. "You're from West Virginia? When did you leave home?"
"When I was around fifteen. I've been working hard ever since to get to where I am today," she said as she chuckled. At a young age, I started baking. At first, I failed. A lot and often. It took so much hard work and I was so close to giving up so many times. But my mother pushed me onward. She would have nothing of me quitting. "We don't quit in this family," she used to tell me. And I didn't. I kept going. And here I am - in Kalispell, Montana. Owning my own little bakery downtown and... I love it. I love my life and my career. There might not be a whole lot of money in it, but when it comes down to doing what you love and money - I'd pick doing what I love every time. I've put my whole life in my career - I've never been married and I've never really dated. I've not really had the time. All my life has been put into this. And I couldn't be more proud. But I'm not remorseful. I've gotten so much out of life. I have everything I could ever wish for right here. Why would I ever wish for more? I mean yeah, having kids one day would be great, but it's not a priority right now. I find so much joy in what I do - making cookies, cakes... Everything. And I love a challenge.""What are you looking for? I mean, in terms of, well..." The man cut himself off and shook his head slowly, as if he wasn't entirely certain how to ask - or rather, what to ask.
"Well, most importantly, I want to make this into a friendly, warm and welcoming bakery that people can come to and leave with good relations. I want to make a name for myself and one day, hopefully, I'll be able to turn this-" she gestured around the room and laughed, "-into something more. Something beautiful."The man nodded and gestured for her to continue.
"I will also take in people to work for me - students looking for a part time job and such. I'll do all the baking myself. Homemade from scratch." She smiled at that - and it was obvious that Miranda was incredibly proud of her line of work."Why did you decide on Kalispell?"
She laughed as she shrugged her shoulders. "Why not?"
