Karen Devon Pryce
FACE CLAIM: Elizabeth Olsen
---------------------------------
AGE: 18
BIRTHDAY: November 4th
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
POSITION: Bellefonte Student
POWER: Force-field generation
Karen has the ability to create a force-field, or a force shield, to protect herself. The fields are primarily formed from her own energy, but she is working on drawing energy from other sources as well. As the force fields generates from her own energy, it takes a toll on her. Her force-fields are deep red in colour, about 3 cm thick and translucent. For now, the force-field pops out from Karens body and usually takes the form of a shield that protects her instinctively. It has happened that the shield has expanded into a dome, protecting Karen from all sides, but this she has no control over and it has only happened on very few occasions where she was in utter distress. She has little to no control over the shape and size of the force-field, and so it is not yet as effective as it could be. As the ability manifested when Karen was in a state of terror, her ability is currently closely linked to her emotions, which makes her abilities somewhat unpredictable and hard to control. Her abilities are however not a danger to other people, it is currently only a defensive ability.
The force-fields are not impenetrable and can usually be removed by an energy drain or extreme weight. Karen is currently working on controlling her shields regardless of her emotional state, and how to bend, shape and resize her shields. She is keen to learn how to expand them, how to shield others. There is great potential in her powers, she might one day be able to reflect things off her shields, and protect multiple allies with her shields, but for now she needs to be able to control it to protect herself.
LIMITATIONS:
- Range: can only protect herself.
- The ability is weak against abilities that drain energy, or great strength and weight. It might dissolve or literally crack and splinter.
- Her shields does not work mutants that can manipulate the mind.
- The shields are only as strong as the energy put into them. The more energy and concentration Karen uses, the stronger they are.
- If Karen runs out of energy, the force-field dissolves.
- If Karen generates a force-field for 5 minutes, she technically needs 15 minutes of rest. However, she can speed up the process by eating high energy foods. Still, it is a tiresome process if she keeps making new force-fields every 5 minutes, and she is currently able to create 5 consecutive force-fields. The longest duration of a force-field was 6 minutes.
- Her powers are linked to her emotions, which makes control a bit hard.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- When trying to push out more than 5 consecuative force-fields, Karen gets dizzy, nauseous and a horrible headache. She also gets incredibly tired, as she has literally drained her own energy. Worse case scenario, she could pass out from overusing.
- If she gets genuinely scared or terrified, the force-field pops out from her without her control.
- The more emotional tumble she's going through, the harder it is to conjure up a force-field by will.
- When using her ability, she is usually a little tired after, even if it was just one force-field. Depending on her energy level she could feel like she'd been out for a 30 min run, or like she's run a 3 hour marathon.
- Because generating force fields takes a lot of concentration, and because her abilities are currently tied to her emotions, she's a bit of an emotional roller-coaster. She gets distracted easily, and tears up easily. She goes from happy to angry in an instant, although she's mostly a bit of a worry-wart.
HEIGHT: 5' 6" (167.6 cm)
HAIR COLOR: Karens hair is naturally dark blonde, but she frequently colours in highlights to make it blonder, or colours it darker to brown.
EYE COLOR: Karen has soft green eyes that change hue depending on light. If she's in a dark room her eyes just appear dark grey, but when in broad daylight her eyes are a clear light green colour.
MISC: Karen has a long, white scar on the inside of her right palm from the time she climbed a tree and fell down. It needed stitches. Aside from that her skin has always been very protected from harm. She doesn't have a lot of scars or noticeable blemishes aside from that one scar. She's an overall pretty girl who gets tiny dimples when she smiles. She has kind and a bit confused looking eyes, and a button nose. Her dress-style is casual to chick. She has both her ears pierced, and the only rebellious thing she ever did was get a tattoo on her left ribcage: it is a tree, to represent growth, hope and longevity.
PERSONALITY: Karen is overall a very sweet young woman. She's mostly always seen with a smile on her face, her dimples showing and all. As a child she was curious, timid, cautious, polite, helpful and outgoing, traits that has followed her into her adult life. However, she is also a bit of an emotional wreck. She's always been of the sensitive type, but her past traumas and abilities has enhanced that so she is more or less like an emotional roller coaster. She can go from happy and carefree, to sad in a moment, it doesn't really take that much. This has always annoyed her, and she tries to work with herself not to get too emotional. But as her emotions and abilities are linked, it makes things a bit complicated. Karen herself is not really that complicated to figure out, in fact, many people find her almost boring. She's cute, bubbly, cheerful, sweet, and some would even call her childish. However, there is much more than meets the eye with this young woman, she just lacks the courage to express herself. Over the years Karen has found that it is much more easier to play the part of the young, innocent figure than to dare express how she really feels. In this regard, Karen is more or less emotionally scared, and despite the fact that she is outgoing and sweet, she actually has a hard time trusting people and letting them under her skin. It is the perfect cover really, because people seem to think they have her all figured out when in fact she is just hiding her true self. She is, to say the least, not particularly confident in her own abilities, always second guessing herself and doubting her own abilities.
Karen is also somewhat of a dreamer. She dreams of love and friendship, but doesn't allow herself to truly feel or grasp those things. She's afraid of getting hurt or heartbroken, and daring to love is something she doesn't think she deserves. Her low self esteem is a huge problem for her, and it is probably often very off-putting for guys when it comes to being romantically involved. Still, she is a dreamer, and genuinely a beautiful person. If someone were to give her the chance to show her true self, that would be just what she needs.

SECRET(S): Karens life has been pretty uneventful, but the most normal lives can often hold great secrets. Karen never really talks about it, but she lost her younger brother in a fire when she manifested her abilities. She never told anyone this, and the only people who knows about it is her family. She never told anyone however, that she has survivor guilt. Karen also never told anyone about the fact that she got a tattoo to represent her lost brother.
FATHER: Jonathan Pryce
MOTHER: Melissa Pryce née Brown
SIBLINGS: Samantha Pryce (20) - Karens popular and smart older sister
WORTHY MENTIONS: Hunter Pryce - her deceased brother. He made it to 11.
CHILDHOOD: Karen was born and raised in a loving and gentle home. Her father was a middle school teacher and her mother worked as a salesperson in a bakery. Her mother loved to bake, but had never gotten the education, so she settled as a salesperson and kept her passion at home. Over the years her mother developed a pretty popular blog about baking and cooking, and so growing up Karen always remembered their house smelling like freshly baked goods, or pies or something sweet. The family lived a comfortable life, they weren't rich with a teachers and a salespersons salary, but they got by and they were happy. They lived outside the suburbs in a small house with a big garden facing a growing forest. As a child Karen would frequently explore the garden and forest with her older sister Samantha, or Sam. They would go explore and wander off nearby streams and bushes.
Sam was Karens older sister by two years, and when Karen was three years old little Hunter was born. The two girls were ecstatic to have a little brother, and they loved him instantly. Some of Karens fondest moments of her childhood often involved being outside in the sun, going on adventures with her sister, or dressing up they baby brother.
Karen was a timid, but cheerful little girl. She made a few friends at school, but was never one of the popular ones, nor was she bullied. She lived her life quietly, reading and dreaming in the library or outside in the sun. During middle school she found the courage to join the volleyball team, and she found that she was actually quite good at it. During this time she made new friends, and she actually started to open up a bit more, growing into her own person. At the same time, Sam's abilities kicked in, and when Karen was 13 Sam was sent to Bellefonte. Her sister was a mutant and had the ability to walk through walls.
ADOLESCENCE: Although the discovery of mutants had been a shock to the family, things normalized, and Karen began high school. When Karens started high school she was happy to start a new chapter in her life, and her sister, although far away, encouraged her to try out for the volleyball team again. All was good, normal, uneventful, but things were about to change. It was a particularly dry September night when a fire broke out in the Pryce household. Karen was asleep, but awoke from the heat and smoke. She panicked and was trapped in her own room. The firemen were on their way, but the house was still on fire. As Karen ran to the window, a beam from the ceiling fell down towards her, and it was then that her powers were activated and Karen shielded herself from the impact. She was so shocked that she didn't quite grasp it, and she ran to the window. The rescue time got to her just in time, but her brother, who had been sleeping in the other room, was not so lucky. Karen was 14 years old, and she had lost her brother to the fire.
A week went by, and Karen hadn't told anyone what had happened. In fact, she wasn't sure if it had happened at all. The loss of her brother was too much. They buried him within the week, and the fire was ruled an accident due the dry season. Sam came for the funeral, and Karen cried in her arms for the days. On the day Sam were to leave, someone from her school came to their house, but not to see Sam, they came for Karen. Karen was a mutant as well, and she were to come attend Bellefonte Academy as well.
Karen was glad to join her sister again, and they found conform in each other. However, at Bellefonte Sam had become quite popular, she had never lacked confidence or anything, and she had become quite happy there with her own friends. Karen however struggled with making new friends in the wake of what had happened. She was more timid and shy than she had been, more careful, but still sweet and caring. She did however settle in eventually, and found solace in her new life.
When Karen was 15 the Inherited let out the secret about mutants. Karen was a bit scared by this, and the uncertainty about her future made working with her abilities pretty hard. She couldn't control it, and trying to actively use it made her exhausted and her head throb. As things in the media died down, so did Karens anxiety towards it, and she could once again focus on her abilities and academic achievements. During this time Samantha also graduated from Bellefonte and started going to collage.
When Karen was 17 things started being weird of her. Her abilities were more off than usual. Sometimes she couldn't get her shield up at all, and sometime a dome would form around her in a 1 meter radius, which would drain her completely. She often fainted and had a constant migraine. It turned out that Karen had been effected by the epidemic, so that is messed with her abilities. She was a walking time bomb, her shield popping out of her at random, causing her distress and exhaustion. Karen was lucky though, and was cured and regained what little control she had over her abilities. However, it seemed in the aftermath that her abilities had been boosted a little by the SPRITE virus, as she went from being able to create 3 consecuative force fields into 5, and she didn't feel as if they drained her completely each time she used them. She is also able to create a protective dome around herself.
Karen is currently on her last year at Bellefonte, and constantly working on honing her abilities. She is far from finished, but she currently is not in any danger of spontaneously pushing out a force field.

SAMPLE:Cara wasn’t quite sure what to make of the girl, but it seemed like she wanted to be left alone. Cara was not daft, she knew when she was not wanted, and she was not one to awkwardly press on the situation, but at least she had manners. Cara could understand the need to be alone and not give a fuck, but at least she had the decency to be aware of the people around her. She rolled her eyes slightly at the curt reply of the other girl, whom she still did not know the name of, and wondered briefly if the girl was just playing rude or simply did not understand that one usually introduced themselves for their new roommates, despite what one might feel.
The tall blonde leaned back against the counter as she took another sip of the drink. She still needed to find a place to throw out all the cardboard boxes she’d used to move in. She didn’t really want to interact that much with the other girl, she seemed like a real rude smart mouth, and Cara honestly just wanted to make this one last. She didn’t want any trouble, for once. Usually, she didn’t really care that much, but the thought of going back home to her parents, or move somewhere else, well, that was not really a pleasant one. She didn’t want to go back to the talking and the looks and the guilt and the anger. Cara looked at the girl as the turned to leave. “Do you know where the trash containers are?” she asked. At least she wasn’t being a bitch.
