Olivia had come to the mountains because she'd known he'd loved them. His will had said for her to be the one to tend to his ashes. Ashes. He'd asked to be cremated. Olivia had found a small community hall in the hills to hold the memorial. His parents were having their own memorial, only without the ashes. The logic was that he'd spent his life in Kalispell, and they were just ashes. Memorials could be held without them. She had the ashes, she had chairs set up in the place, and she had a picture of him chosen.
She didn't even know if half of these people knew he was dead, but she'd told them to come to the mountains to pay their respects. In text messages. Cade had always left her the difficult jobs.

Devyn Solway didn't do funerals. It even took her the longest time to visit her father's grave back when he died and she loved him with every ounce of her being. He was her father, the one that was the only one to ever care about her wellbeing, and the one she wanted to be like when she grew up. When he died it had left a hole so large that she changed and even to this day she was still changed by the loss of that man. While she did now visit his grave from time to time, she was not still very big on the whole thing.
So one could image her hesitation to go to someone’s funeral with that she had just been friends with. Yes, she did care about Cade and he was a good friend and there had even been a time where he might of had a chance to be more then friends with her if timing had bene different and things had just happened differently. Not that any of that mattered, that was in the past, and Cade was dead. Dev honestly didn’t know how to feel about it other than that she didn't want to go to the funeral but she figured since they lost touch it was only fair to at least show up.
"..." Dev's mouth opened to say something as she got closer to the place the text had said to meet up, but she remained silent. She even stopped where she was, still out of sight of the little event and chooses to climb a tree instead. There, she was sort of here but also not there for the sake of her comfort as well. It felt nice and relaxing to be up in the tree and she planned to remain there unless her wife had time to come or someone was able to be a source of...comfort for her to come down.

Mourning.
It was such a weird stage for Vera, no matter if it was her doing it or her watching others go through it. Other than her parents and then knowing about Dexter Sterling's death, she never really... handled it in the best way. Honestly, she didn't know how anyone normally dealt with it.
When hearing about Cade's death, there were a lot of emotions that ran through her. While she couldn't allow her emotions to run her up the wall because of work, they were still there. Her and Cade's relationship wasn't necessarily a very close one. The two of them admired each other's tenacity, smart mouths, fighting skills, attitudes, but then there was something that sort of kept them distant... in a way. Well, someone. That someone was Devyn. During her last year as a High School student and early college, she knew she had deep feelings for Devyn and so did Cade and that cause Vera to competitive.
And even though Devyn ended up being with Vera in the end, it just made her wonder if she was truly selfish. If she had let Cade and Devyn develop into some steady relationship, where would that leave the three of them? Would a relationship start to bloom? Would the two of them been married by now? Possibly in love? Would Cade have been happy before his last breath? Knowing that he'd left someone who loved him before he passed away? Did Vera strip that away from him? These were the kind of thoughts that ran through Vera's mind since the news but she couldn't help but to wonder what her wife was going through... Once upon a time, Devyn had the closer relationship with Cade, after all.
She had the okay to leave work early to attend the memorial that Olivia had texted her about. And while she didn't think she'd need to tell her wife she show up, she did. Vera just saw herself as support for Devyn, because of course, she was always worried about her wife and how she dealt with her emotions considering her current state after the whole SPRITE ordeal. Or maybe Devyn was fine, Vera wouldn't really know until she asked.
When she showed up, she noticed a very small amount of people showing up but couldn't see Devyn... until she looked up at a few trees. Sitting in trees had always been Devyn's go to spot to feel better and that really didn't change after a few years. The telekinetic moved towards the tree and leaned her back against it. "How are you feeling?" Not really looking up as she said it, but straight ahead.

Selina had been shocked when she'd gotten a text telling her about Cade's death. She'd had no idea, and she still hadn't heard how it'd happened. The shock still hadn't worn away... he'd been so healthy and had seemed to be in good health the last time she'd seen him. She felt a keen pain in her chest as she made her way slowly up the mountain they'd chosen for his memorial.
Selina couldn't help but feel completely bewildered and almost lost. This was the first time one of her friends had died, and she'd never seen it coming. Hadn't even known about it until she'd received a fucking text of all things. She wondered if it had been some type of accident, if she could have prevented it by being there. What the hell was the point in being in security if you couldn't even protect the people you cared for? Selina saw Vera first and absently wondered at her relationship with Cade. She'd known there was something between Devyn Vera and Cade but she'd never asked for or wanted specifics. Selina glanced up and then saw Devyn in the tree. She honestly felt grateful for the both of them showing up. She nodded to the both of them in silent greeting before making her way over to the chairs that had been set up and standing behind them. For some reason it didn't feel quite right to her to sit down right now, though she couldn't pin point why. Selina stared forward, smiling briefly as she saw his picture. The fact that she'd never see his face again... it was a lot more daunting than she'd ever thought it'd be. The permanence of death had never been something she'd feared, as more often than not it had been something she'd greatly desired, but still, even she wasn't callous enough to be completely unaffected.

More people might arrive, but for now Olivia was going to continue. She walked over to the music player and put a song on that she thought Cade would've liked. She sighed, walking over near Cade's picture and just kind of looking at it for a minute. Then her hands started shaking and clenched into fists.
"YOU ASSHOLE! YOU GAVE UP!" She closed her eyes, realizing she shouldn't have acted out like that. But she couldn't help herself. She'd struggled through a brother abusing her, her powers going wonky, being taken away from everything she'd known and put into a new school with no friends after waking up from a coma...and he'd had the seemingly perfect life. Tears cascaded down Olivia's cheeks.
"Why didn't you tell me you were hurting before you did this?" The voice was normal, not yelling, but not a whisper. Olivia sat down in a nearby chair. If she'd been here...would he still have done it? Would she have been able to stop him?

I should at least go up and say something or...something. Devyn thought to herself. What could she even say? There was nothing to be said because she didn't have anything to say. She didn't know how Cade died and while she had her guess they still didn't really didn't give her the desire to say anything. While she was sad, she was also pissed off. Yet another person in her life that was important to her was gone now and she could not help but wonder if it was her fault. If it was the fault of The Shadow Prince Curse.
The shadows below were already starting to move around and it was for that reason that Devyn had decided to be up in a tree. Being up higher off the ground and away from the shadows on the floor made it a bit easier to not lose control. Ever since she had bene affected by SPRITE it was that much harder to control her power when she was dealing with her emotions. She was already starting to consider leaving now and would be done with it but she heard and picked up on her wife's scent. Of course Vera would show up to support her, Vera was always so kind like that.
"Not too good. A part of me wants to cry or something...while another part just wants to lose it and destroy this whole event." Devyn admitted to her wife, never seeing the point i n lying to her lover. Devyn's green eyes spotted Selina and she of course gave her friend a nod, having still been pretty close to the other girl over the past three years as well. There was singing then, followed by yelling; which was what Devyn pretty much wanted to do. However, she just let out a deep shaky breath as she climbed down out of the tree and went over to her wife.
"Can...can we go closer? I don't know what to say but...I..." Devyn struggled to even get out what she was trying to ask. She just wanted to leave but she also wanted to go over there and say like a mental good bye. Dev just knew she could not do it alone, which was why she was reaching a hand out for her wife's and wanting Vera to lead the way. There were other people here that could do the talking; Dev was just here to pay her respects as best as she could.

Selina was slightly surprised to see Olivia there. It had taken her a bit to recognize the girl, as they hadn’t spoken since their first meeting, but she remembered what had happened as vividly as if it had happened yesterday. Selina hadn’t realized Olivia knew Cade, but she made a note to approach the girl later and see how she was doing.
Selina was startled from her thoughts by Olivia’s sudden outburst. She didn’t understand it either. Gave up? Gave up how? Selina had no clue what was going on. She had only just found out that he’d passed, and she was still numb to it all, in a state of mild shock. She barely picked up on Olivia’s words but what she did hear, Selina didn’t like. Selina made a move to step forward but hesitated briefly, wondering if it was appropriate for her to approach the grieving woman.
It seemed as if Olivia was far more aware of what was going on, and Selina wondered if the two had been really close. Selina had been Cade's friend, but… she wasn’t sure she had much right to be here. Selina took a breath and decided that she would do this, the consequences be damned. She slowly walked forward and eventually sat down behind Olivia. “Olivia,” she started quietly so as not to startle the girl, “You may not remember me… but... I-I knew Cade. Can I ask what happened?”

Olivia startled a little when she heard the voice and turned to look. Selina...she had known Cade. Once upon a time Olivia had considered Selina a friend of hers as well.
"I remember you Selina. You helped me get therapy of course I remember." She sighed at the question.
"The bastard committed suicide. His housekeeper found him in the tub. He'd already passed on from blood loss." Which Olivia figured was a more tactful way of saying how he'd committed suicide. She rubbed her forehead and shook her head.
"Maybe if I'd been here...maybe he wouldn't have gone through with it...I keep going through what ifs." She turned to Selina.
"I'm glad you could come. Cade would've really liked you being here." It was true, she had to say it.

Selina smiled warmly at Olivia, why she had fallen out of touch with the girl was beyond her. She supposed she'd just gotten busy. "How are you doing... aside from this?" she asked quietly.
When Selina heard the word suicide, her eyes widened in shock. Cade? The kid who'd bopped her nose with waffle batter? How....? "H-he..." Selina trailed off, unsure of what to say.
He'd been so sweet and fun-loving, and- this just didn't seem right. Why hadn't he reached out? He could have called, come over and talked with her, anything. She would given him whatever he'd asked for... Selina glanced at the picture and felt a pang of anger flash through her. What the hell had he been thinking?
At Olivia's next words, Selina's anger vanished in a moment and she felt a hollow emptiness inside of her that was painful in sheer empathy. She knew exactly what Olivia meant, because she was now wondering the same thing. "Olivia, you can't have known," she offered as she lightly patted Olivia's back.
Selina paused at Olivia's words, wondering if they were true. She merely nodded though and smiled at the woman, "Thanks. I'm glad you texted me. Thanks for letting me know."

Of course she felt out of place. It was the usual for her to feel out of place when she knew more important people deserved to be here, people that Cade actually really cared for. So could you really blame her for wanting to dodge as much eye contact from the others as she could? At the same time it was difficult, because the moment she caught a glimpse of Selina, Vera couldn't help but to send the girl something of a smile and a slight wave to match.
It was good to see Selina alive and well... or as well as someone could be during a memorial. It had only been a few years but Vera was still glad to have worked alongside Selina during BA's Security Squad. Her head lifted slightly, more towards the sound of music playing. She could hear Olivia and while her and the girl hadn't been close, just the sound of her mourning pained her, making it even more difficult for Vera to want to stay.
"Not too good. A part of me wants to cry or something...while another part just wants to lose it and destroy this whole event."
That right there was her reason for staying. "Can't say that I blame you, I'd probably want to do both if I were in your shoes." Taking a deep breath, Vera tugged against the sleeve of her jacket as she stood up straight once her wife managed to get down from the tree. It hurt to know that Devyn was hurting, it was never easy. When she asked if they could go closer, Vera nodded, looking over to Devyn as she tried to show something close to a smile. As if it was second nature, she also reached for her wife's hand, holding on to it.
It was okay if Devyn had a hard time with knowing what to say or do because Vera didn't need to her wife to spell it out. She wouldn't have to do anything alone. "Come on." She started making her way towards the front while hand in hand with Devyn. She figured everyone would just come and go while saying their goodbyes, hence why she stopped shortly behind the two women. She caught some of their conversation and she was sure Devyn managed to way before her. Just having to hear the exact details of Cade's death caused her heart to skip a beat or two and not in a good way. The telekinetic quickly looked away to the side as she got read to wipe a few tears that made their way out.
After doing so, she looked over towards her wife and back towards the backs of Olivia and Selina while trying to put on a better face. She didn't want to interrupt but she added on anyway, smiling softly at the two. "And thanks for letting us know, Olivia... I'm sure the rest of Cade's friends also appreciate you putting this together. It's also good to see you again, Selina."

Devyn smiled a little bit as she made her way to her wife's side. Of course Vera would understand and she did recall the time that she and Vera went to Vera's parents graves. That was far different then this and Dev still thought Vera had to deal with the worst thing there. In this situation this was a friend that died but for Vera it was parents that died when she was there as well. That was part of why Dev felt like she had to do this, because she helped Vera deal with something far tougher. She had to at the very least try but she was so thankful that she had her wife there to help her.
With their hands perfectly entwined with one another, like they practically belong and were one with one another. Dev gave her wife's hand a squeeze back as she took a deep breath and moved with her to get a little closer. She picked up on most of what was said even while they were not directly there. After all, she had pretty good hearing and picked the spot for a reason so she could hear everything without having to be close. Now that she was getting closer and hearing how Cade died, she could not help but feel like this was a bad idea. Already the shadows around her started to move as she felt her emotions become mixed up within herself even more.
She remained silently, giving a small nod to her wife when told to come on and sticking close to her. Dev was doing everything in her power to keep her breathing under control and the shadows from trying to consume her. It was a lot harder ever since she got infected with SPRITE, but she was trying her best. A low growl was already escaping her throat because while she was sad that her friend was gone, she was pissed that he took his life. It was such a coward’s way out. "Yes, thank you for telling us Olivia, and it was nice to see you again Selina. Now I and Vera have to go." Devyn said, her voice sounding very distance.
The reason behind it was because she already felt herself losing control as her eyes turned a darker shade of greed. Certainty her wife would pick up on all of this and the two of them would be getting out of there as soon as possible.
