Axel scanned the foreign language section with an unimpressed expression on his face. His sharp facial features always made his bad moods look worse than they really were. So far, no sales clerks had gotten up the nerve to approach and ask if he needed any help.
Not that he needed any. He had found this section easily enough. The problem was the lack of variety. He didn't want a copy of "German For Dummies" for 72.99$. He didn't need a Spanish-English dictionary. His Spanish was passable, which made it adequate for the amount that he used it. He didn't want an old French printed copy of the Harry Potter series.
What he was really craving was good, German poetry. His father had given him a book of poetry a few years ago, right before Axel had gotten arrested in Seattle. Axel wasn't sure what happened to it. He had a suspicion that his boyfriend at the time had taken it when they broke up. A "fuck you" to top off their crumbled relationship.
Axel clicked his tongue in annoyance and sighed. The only German book he could see was a copy of Faust that had the German on one page and the English translation on the other. Useless.
Movement to his one side drew his attention for a moment and he glanced at what turned out to be a stranger wanderin into the foreign language section as well.

Over the years, A Novel Idea had become a place of comfort for Levi. He had cut back on his visits recently. Making sure to actually finish a book he had before buying a new one, but even if he hadn’t finished he would still make a weekly visit to his favorite store in Kalispell.
As he entered he gave a politle nod to the clerk. They had finally come to some sort of peace. Anytime Levi was in the store the clerk, whose name was Tom, would acknowledge him. They even would converse anytime Levi would make a purchase. Five years in the making and this was the best they could do.
Since he wasn’t here to actually buy anything today Levi did his usual weaves through the aisles. He’d stop anytime there was something that caught his eye, but kept moving for the most part. He was making his way out of the self-help section, he was never one to stay too long there and turning into the where the foreign language books were when he saw a man who was already in the aisle.
It was a rare thing to see someone else in the store. Obviously people come here, but it wasn’t the most popular place to be. He had met his fair share of people here, even helped some. He thought back to the time where he was contemplating getting a job here. He was thankful he didn’t.
The man seemed older than Levi. His hazel eyes only scanned him for a moment. He seemed harmless enough. His focus turned back to the variety of books in languages he couldn’t understand. Perhaps he should learn a new language? He let out a small chuckle at the thought. Like he would ever have time to do that.
