Casey. Meet near the woods on campus tonight. Dont be late or I'm going to eat what I brought for you to try.
Devyn had sent Casey the text an hour ago. It would have been better if she actually sent it a few hours before, but Dev was still very much the kind of person that was last minute. This was another time where she was being last minute and looking to drag out one of her friends to keep her company for a few hours. Vera had to work a night shift tonight which didn't work out in Devyn's favor since this one one of the nights that she didn't have work. She had did her best to try and line up her scheduled with classes and work to fit in with Vera's so they could have days off together.
That didn't always work out well and it was then that Devyn was able to spend some more time with her friends outside of just classes. She had baked a chocolate cake, one that she had just mad eon a whim, but even after three years she was still not good at baking. Casey was going to be her test subject on if the cake was good or not. It looked good and Devyn thought it tasted fine for a cake, but her taste buds were always better suited for meats.
"If you are trying to sneak up on me, give it up Nightlight. You should know by now I will hear and smell you before I even see you." Devyn spoke up when she could hear someone approaching. someone that had to be Casey, because there was no mistaking the other girl's scent.

It was a brisk, cool night. She wasn't sure she was completely happy about that. Being as thin as she was, she had trouble staying warm sometimesShe'd just been leaving her job at the bookstore when her phone vibrated with Devyns text. Casey didn't have any plans that night and knowing it was probably one of the last nights she could have just a little bit of fun before she took it easy (or supposed to take it easy to reserve energy) it was an easy quick decision to agree to meet her friend. Though, even if it was a new moon and she was low, low on energy she'd still make the trip. .
First she stopped by the dorm to drop off her school bag from earlier in the day, change into a simple black thermal shirt, blue hoodie and black jeans. A thick pair of socks and boots completed the ensemble. The nip of the air bit her cheeks as she left the comfort of the dorm building and was finally on her way towards the woods. She got the sudden idea to try and sneak up on Devyn; her glow was dim and she could use the trees to help hide herself. It was fun, except she always failed at it, and this time was no exception. Maybe she'd have to try borrowing someone else's clothes. Someone who Devyn didn't know and had never met. So most likely some one not associated with the school. Hmmm.
"One of these days I'll find a way to outsmart your senses," she replied as she reached Devyn's side. "Oooo, cake!" She reached her hand out to dip her finger in the frosting on top.

Devyn chuckled as she looked at her friend who was now in her sights. "Good luck. You either have to smell really bad or come at me when it’s raining really hard. Rain always throws me off a good bit." Devyn pointed out. It was always cute and fun when people still tried to sneak up on her, because it tended to never work out. Still, she gave them credit for trying and it just allowed her to keep her sense sharp. Not that she really had any control over her sense, that was something that was always on and it sucked when she did have to deal with her sense going it overdrive or being overloaded at once.
"What do you think?" Devyn asked when Casey tasted the frosting. Then again, she didn't make the frosting, it was store bought so that would not be a good test of how the cake tasted. At least Casey did seem up to trying it and like cake. That made Dev's job easier in terms of having her friend taste it for her. "I actually brought this slice for you to taste. You know how I'm awful at baking, but I have been trying alto over the years and wanted to know what you thought." Devyn pointed out as she held out the slice for Casey to take. She then soon pulled out a plastic fork out of her coat pocket and handed it over.
Dev was then practically staring and waiting in anticipation to how Casey was going to react and if she liked it or not. Either way, she just wanted the girl to be honest and if it was bad she was fine with her tossing it to the ground. As long as it did not get tossed at her, things were fine. Dev did sniff at the air, more specifically to pick up Casey's scent. "Where you around a lot of books? You smell like books." Dev asked, since her friend did smell like she had just been swimming in books, but Dev's sense were high at this time.

The sharp sweetness of the frosting had Casey's mouth salivating for more. She didn't usually indulge in too many sweets, but when she did she usually ended up over indulging, which left her feeling sick the for hours. Thankfully it looked like Devyn had only brought her one slice. She took the plate eagerly in her hand, but looking a little baleful at it as Devyn admitted to making it herself. The frosting was good, but most likely store bought, from how good it tasted.
"You know, I thought taste-testing was the wife's job. You're not trying to poison me, are you?" she asked, poking fun at her friend's baking skills with a smile as she took the offered plastic fork. With a brave shrug she dug the fork into the cake."Well so far its obviously not hard. That's a plus." She'd had cake that wasn't soft and she wasn't a fan. She pulled the fork up with a big bite of cake. Instead of taking the whole bite though, she took a smaller one of just the cake. She chewed thoughtfully, her head tilted to the side. Then she swallowed. "Well...it's not horrible. Not great, but," she said, taking the rest of bite with the frosting on it. She chewed and swallowed, "the frosting makes it really good. I think the cake isn't sweet enough or something on its own. I heard vanilla extract or something like that helps enhance flavors, did you use any of that?" she asked and then took another bite.

Devyn watched and waited in silence as her friend took the plate and plastic fork Dev had offered out too her. She really just hoped that the cake didn’t taste awful or would cause her friend to be sick. Dev did try the first few versions herself and did take a bite of the one she was giving her friend now. However, she was really not a fan of sweets so it was hard to tell if she was going about it right or not. Plus, at this point it all tasted disgusting after having several bites of the different versions of cakes she made.
Thankfully all of the cakes were pretty small, so it would not be a big waste when she would just end up throwing them all away or something. IT was also tempting to just have a cake fight at the bar or at the school at random. She kept the idea in the back of her mind for the time being as she waited for Casey's judgment. "Pfft, it also is a friend’s job. Plus Vera is busy a lot recently so I have to reach out to my friends for help." Devyn responded. She didn't even bother to answer the poisoning question and just rolled her eyes.
Never in a million years would she do that to a friend, she was more likely to be the one to eat something that was poisoned for them. Dev listened and nodded a little as her friend pointed out that the cake was not hard, so that was a good thing. She did make a slightly disappointed face to hear that the cake itself was on the bland side and that pretty much the icing was the saving grace of it all. Well, back to the drawing board but at least she knew that she had gotten some things right with her creation. "Uh...no. I don't even know what that is or if we have any." Devyn responded.
She really was not a baker so didn't really use things like that that was mostly used in baking. "I'm just about to drag you to my place so you can make the cake for me." Devyn responded as she left out a half defeated sigh and leaned back against a tree. There was an idea, but would she be able to get baking down if she just had someone do it for her while she watched? Possibly. "Anyway, how you been?" Dev went ahead and asked, since she had not yet checked in on her friend in that regard.

"Honestly I'm not sure what it is either," Casey replied back with a small laugh. "Someone had the Food Network channel on in the lounge the other day while I was doing some homework and I heard one of the judges on some kind of food competition say they needed more of it." Casey took another small bite of the cake. "Though I've seen it in my moms baking cupboard a lot as well, come to think of it."
Hearing Devs suggestion to drag her to her place made Casey grin. "I'd be willing to give it a shot. I mean, my moms taught me a few things. In fact, she has one from her great grandma she said she wanted to teach me next. Maybe I'll snag the recipe and we can do it ourselves. With my moderate baking talent and your.....latent...baking talent, I'm sure the cake would turn out great."
There was a few bites left of the cake, though none with frosting. So with an apologetic smile at her friend, she broke it off into small pieces and threw it around on the ground. "The birds will love it I'm sure. As for how I'm doing...been pretty good. Just school and work. Which is why you smelled books on me," she said. "I've picked up a few extra shifts to earn some more money for my Christmas gifts fund. Also, have a few essays to write," she mentioned with a scowl. "Though, around the full moon I tend to totally slack off on work and school and just have fun. Going out dancing is a great release for energy."
Casey mimicked Devs pose and leaned against a tree close to her friend. She wouldn't admit it but she was a bit jealous at how effortless it seemed for Devyn to look so cool and confident. Of course, she also looked up to her friend for those, and other, reasons. "What about you? Been keeping busy? How's Vera?"

Devyn laughed when Casey admitted that she didn't actually know what it was and just heard about it and knew people used it. Well, that didn't help out too much. At least Dev knew what to put on her shopping list to buy and try putting in to make her baking things taste good. The question was how much or how little to put of that stuff into things. "Well you should ask her if we can borrow it or at least know what it looks like so when I go out grocery shopping I can pick it up." Devyn pointed out.
She very rarely went down the baking row in the store but that might have been why she was lacking in her backed goods tasting good. It was worth a shot to at least give it a go and if Casey was willing to be dragged along then that would make it all the more fun and sort of easier to deal with. Thankfully her friend seemed up for it; not like Dev would have left her much choice on the matter. If there was one thing her friends should have bene sued to by now was her showing up randomly and dragging them off to places. "Awesome. We will either make something gran or burn my place down. The latter let’s try to avoid because Vera will be pissed." Devyn responded with a small chuckle.
Dev would also be pissed because she had things in her place that she didn't want to lose because of a baking fire. That would just suck and likely would result in her never baking again for the rest of her life. "Or they will die." Devyn responded with a smirk as her friend disgraced the cake. It was biodegradable so even if no animal ate it, the ground would. She then listened as her friend told her what she had been up to which was the usual standard things. "Ah. I was going to ask if you recently hooked up with someone and you two were getting it on in a library or something." Devyn said with a teasing smirk taking over her face. It was just too good to pass up saying such a thing.
"It is. So is sex." Devyn pointed out in response to her friend’s words on what was a great release of energy. She blamed the environment and the late night as to why she was talking about sex now. She would get over it soon, just needed more distractions. She gave Casey a thumbs up at her cool pose, finding that the other girl was pretty cool actually and not really aware that Casey thought she pulled off cool so easily. Dev would have just informed her it’s because of confidence, which Dev was dripping in. "I'm alright, in my last year of college and pushing to get it down. Working hard at the bar and trying to not drink too much since I get a nice cut on the drinks. As for Vera...she has been on a puppy and baby craze of late. I don't know if it the weather or if she really want to start having kids." Devyn said as she started to nervously play with her necklace.
