Ever was browsing the aisles of one of the few supermarkets the mall actually had. Rather than just shopping, he was taking a detailed stock of anything interesting the store had to offer. In fact, he'd been doing much the same thing all morning alongside his normal shopping. His own life was on a budget currently, but his new position had been gifted a rather generous allowance to spend on food and equipment for his new kitchen. He planned to use it well.
Picking up a packet of some kind of sugary cereal, Everett hummed thoughtfully to himself. He deserved a little something special, and he'd missed the familiar brands of sugar-crap he was used to. Australian cereals were entirely different, and some of them were even endorsed by tucans? As he tossed the box into his trolley he noticed a little boy out of the corner of his eye. He seemed to be nearly in tears as he stared at his own cereal box, which his mother was in the middle of denying him.
Feeling a spark of pity, Ever stretched his fingers out towards the box, and with a little wiggle and some concentration, he bade the captain on the cereal box to wink and wave. The little boy almost dropped the box, but smiled and waved back before trying to get his mother's attention to show her. He quickly stopped and turned away, a grin on his face before he spotted someone familiar.

Erika had always enjoyed grocery shopping. She was still a terrible cook, mind you, but there was something overly peaceful about walking down the various aisles. Until you had a child you had to bring with you, that is. Isaac was a good kid, smart and charming and properly raised, but he was far too curious and far too stubborn for his own good, two traits he'd sadly, gotten from his mother. He knew what he wanted and there rarely was a point arguing with him - unless you were just as stubborn.
Today, Isaac seemed to think that wandering around and never standing still was the best course of action. He wanted to explore every spot of the grocery store, which meant that the telekinetic had to pay extra close attention to her son, and not so much to the groceries she was here to shop.
Next time, she had to remember to get one of those grocery wagons she could put him in instead.
Kneeling down in front of the boy, Erika propped her elbow up on her knee and leaned her cheek against the palm of her hand as she sighed. She couldn't quite keep the slightly amused smile off of her lips - as she rarely could around him. She supposed it was something she'd just have to get used to; he'd gotten his father charm, after all, and there was no doubt that Erika had fallen for that; why wouldn't she fall for her son's as well? At least he'd inherited her olive skin and thick, brown curls - and those deep, chocolate brown eyes both his parents had.
"You can't run around like that, Isaac," she said, "You need to stay close, okay?"

He'd heard that Erika and Drew had, had a kid, but to run straight into Erika and said kid only days after he returned was certainly a surprise. Ever was already sure that he would be able to approach and interact with Erika as casually as he always had, but it was this confidence that made him a little unsure as to whether approach or back away. After all, considering their history was he allowed to be simply fine with this? Well he was, and it seemed pretty immature to act otherwise just to play a part.
Besides, this was his employer's wife, and at one time she had been his closest friend. He'd be lying if he claimed he hadn't wanted to go and see her. With a last glance at the boy with the cereal box he wandered over. It felt awkward to be looming over Erika, even more so to be towering over a child, so he also dropped to a crouch a short distance away so as not to invade their privacy so suddenly. He was a stranger, and even if Erika did want to see him, her little boy didn't know him.
"Sounds like someone familiar," he mused with a quiet laugh. "Nice to see you again, Erika."

Turning in surprise, the brunette looked straight at her ex-husband, her brown eyes widening. She opened her mouth to reply, but no words seemed to come out. Instead, the telekinetic simply blinked as her son, Isaac, who naturally loved people peered at the man with a toothy grin and stepped forward, but didn't say much. Instead, the boy watched with curiosity, his gaze moving from the man, to his mother.
"Everett," she said once she found the words. "I didn't expect to see you here." In fact, although Erika had heard that her husband had employed him, she hadn't expected to see him around. They hadn't exactly left things on good terms and even if she had no hard feelings left about it all, she didn't know how Everett had taken it all. Clearly, she had no reason to worry, which was relieving.
"My name's Isaac!" the boy interrupted, waving his arms in front of Everett, his grin widening.

Flipping the cereal box in his hands, Everett shrugged. "I'm stocking up on ingredients for my new job." He glanced at the literal box of sugar and cleared his throat. "And uh, a few things for myself." By the sounds of Erika's surprise she wasn't too excited to see him, which was entirely expected. Though it was a supermarket, and he was a chef.
"Is it?" Everett asked, infusing his voice with the enthused curiosity he reserved for children. "It's nice to meet you Isaac!" He smiled kindly at the enthusiastic child before glancing at Erika, making sure she was definitely ok with him talking to her kid. "How have you been?"

"I see," she replied with a short nod and a smile. She'd heard about Everett working for Drew. Perhaps, had the situation been any different, she might have found the whole ordeal... Odd. But Erika was comfortable around Everett. She always had been. He was a great human being and anyone would be lucky to have him as their employee. Drew included. "It's good to see you," she said, her smile softening.
Erika couldn't help the chuckle from pressing its way through her lips at Isaac clearly wanting the attention all for himself. "Hee-hee!" the boy exclaimed happily, clapping his hands together. Clearly pleased with the attention. But as it was returned to his mother, Isaac busied himself with the groceries once more. "I've been good," Erika replied, lifting her gaze to look at her ex-husband. "Just... Busy," she added with a shrug. "How about yourself? When did you return?"
