The Inherited
Overview
The Inherited are a group of radical mutants formed around one solid belief: that the Divine Will has Determined that one day the Inherited, those blessed with further powers, will Inherit the world. This essentially means that they fully believe that mutants will one day become the rulers of the world, much as they have in times past. For the Inherited believe that all great beings of the past have been mutants, and that mutantkind stretches back to Millennia The Divine Will has routinely blessed those it has deemed worthy, and often they are the ones who have risen to lead civilization to greatness. All gods that walked the Earth, all heroes, even all villains were and are among the Inherited.
They have thus separated themselves from the outside world. Humanity is considered Incomplete, some Inherited even go so far as to label them “Tainted.” Thus contact with humanity is to be lessened save for actions of good will. The Inherited, in short, treat humans like humans treat apes, though perhaps with a little more grace and dignity. Since they clearly do not wish to live among them, they have instead separated themselves out. Everything they use and need they learn to make for themselves, and will only trade the barest of necessities outside of their family groups, often referred to as clans.
Their Living Situation
Inherited live in clans, which are essentially extended family groups. When an Inherited is born, their mothers give them up to be raised communally. No mother nurses her child for long and no child ever truly knows which of those that care for them are actually their mothers. They are soon shifted over to the care of Guides, who begin instruction in all the ways of the Inherited. This includes the Inherited mythos, to be certain, but also some basic understanding of necessary school subjects, all of which fit in with the laws of whatever land. It also entails intense instruction in the Inherited's martial art, known simply as the Flow.
Children are thus raised in the communal group, always with one another and never knowing who their siblings are. They are given names based off figures from religious texts, frequently Biblical, but, again, often changing with the region. They do not receive names of “gods” or other strong figures until they manifest their abilities. They are then considered to be full members of the Inherited. They are granted a full day of celebration in which everything about them is fully celebrated. After this, they begin an intensive two week course with “Honers” who work to instruct them in adapting the Flow to their powers and beginning work on said abilities.
The children are then sent to the corresponding mutant school, and tradition has it that the clans cut off communication with them. The children are allowed to return at age eighteen and frequently do so, though some have opted to remain at mutant academies as various staff members. This latter option is equated to missionary work and is not frowned upon among members of the community.
Those that return to their clans simply live the rough domestic life, utilizing their powers and furthering themselves until the time in which they will Inherit.
The Flow
The Flow is a martial art designed by early Inherited members using a combination of Thai Chi and Krav Magah. They begin learning this as early as they are physically able, usually beginning with basic forms and meditation techniques until their bodies have developed enough to step up. Most begin working as early as three or four and step up their training around the age of ten. Around that time they also beginning determining how best to combine their techniques with mutant abilities.
Flow works in two way: it naturally flows and helps channel inner energies via forms and techniques (Thai Chi) and utilizes swift movements to debilitate opponents (Krav Magah). An Inherited is first to enter a quasi-trance state known as the Flow. This essentially requires slowed breathing and intense concentration, which also allows most to link tightly with their mutant abilities. From there, they begin a near continuous motion that allows for fluid and adaptable combat situations.
This works particularly well for those with agility or kinesis abilities, though all Inherited learn of Flow.
