Ellie Matilda Dawson
FACE CLAIM: Emilia Clarke
---------------------------------
AGE: 18
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Demisexual
POSITION: Bellefonte Student
POWER: Delumination
Ellie has the power to absorb light and then utilize it by making her body glow - or placing the light into objects or other people. She does this by absorbing the photons, or the electromagnetic radiation that is visible to the human eye, absorbs it by focusing on a source of light, and thus absorbing it into her own body. Once the light has been absorbed, she can place it into another object or person. However, if the light is placed within something organic, like the human body, the moment she stops concentrating on it, it will return to its source. It's a lot easier for her to place the light within inanimate objects and keep it contained there.
This process is done through eye contact and concentration, although, it's easier when it comes to objects. The smaller the object, the easier it is. Ellie can also, if concentrating, form the light she absorbs into simple forms, such as a small ball of light. She doesn't have the ability to glow unless she's absorbed light, meaning that if she gets embarrassed, she won't suddenly start lighting. However, she has absorbed light by accident before.
LIMITATIONS:
- She cannot make light out of nothing. There has to be a source for her to absorb it, and the bigger the source, the harder it is to absorb. She can absorb the light from a candle or a lamp easily enough, but something as big as for example an entire building is either impossible, or incredibly difficult to achieve.
- It's much easier for her to absorb light into herself or inanimate objects, as opposed to other people. The feeling of having the light absorbed into you can feel like a slight warmth, but can be somewhat uncomfortable to those unfamiliar with it.
- The lights she absorbs has to be within sight. Like, she cannot absorb the light from something behind a closed door or a wall. She has to be able to physically see it.
- She can only keep the absorbed light within herself for tops an hour, if even that. The longer she keeps it within herself, the more strain it puts on her. As for objects, she can keep them there for twice the time she can with her own body, so roughly two hours.
- She cannot strengthen or weaken light, unless she of course puts it into something that would dim the light out or make it shine brighter by being reflected. She can only absorb it, put it into something and put it back again.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- Due to having had so much light stored up in her body over the years of using her power, her hair has gone from dark brown to almost pure white. She doesn't know why this has happened, but it was a gradual side-effect from the day she manifested. Even hair dye will gradually lighten. This has also seemingly made her skin fair and pale, and no amount of sunbathing will turn her skin any darker. Basically, the pigments in her hair and skin has a much lesser effect.
- The usual side-effects include but isn't limited to, headaches that can develop into migraines, feeling unpleasant around darkness, burning/sore eyes, restlessness and heat strokes. Having absorbed light into herself can cause nausea and shaking.
"Please sit down Miss Dawson."
A girl with green eyes, pale, but fair skin and long, blonde locks that reach far down her shoulders sits down. She's rather short and her feet doesn't quite seem to reach the floor from the chair she's sitting on. She looks about 5'2 with a slim body build. "Yes, Ma'am," she replies, her voice British and clipped, with touch of authority that seems almost alien coming from such a fragile looking girl.
"Why did you decide to transfer to Bellefonte?"
The girl smiles and it appears somewhat strained, as if the personal question makes her uncomfortable. "Well," she begins, looking down at her lap while her finger twists around a lock of her blonde hair. "It's... Sort of complicated. I uhm, my dad? He was with another woman before I was born, and well, things didn't exactly work out the way they hoped, and well, that's where I come into the picture. You see, my father had an affair with my mother, and shortly before.. My sister was born, I was born." The girl swallows hard.
"Then your father left her mother for yours? I fail to see what this has to do with my question."
"Well, you see... I only recently found out that I even had a sister, and that she's very ill. I uhm, talked to my dad and my mum, and they let me visit her. She's currently in a hospital in Switzerland." The girl smiles vaguely, letting her hair drop from around her finger. "And we talked, you know? She told me all about her friends, and... I guess I just wanted to know for sure? I don't..." The girl takes a deep breath and chuckles nervously.
"Know what for sure?"
The girl looks up then, her expression somber. "That she's okay. That... I don't know... Can we move on please?"
"Alright. Tell me about your manifestation."
The girl then perks up. "Oh! That's a cute story! I was about eleven, and I uhm, I was watching TV with my mum, right? And then she asked me to turn off the light, so I got up and walked over to the door. I reached my hand out and then I looked up towards the light, and I got this weird.. Sensation. Like, I can't even explain it, and then, the light just sort of... Floated in the air, towards me, without me touching anything and... I was glowing!" the girl laughs as she tells the story, her cheeks turning a gentle shade of pink.
"And then what happened?"
"My mum freaked out, of course! Like, her daughter was glowing! But then my dad came home and he seemed to have expected it. He told me what I was, and then he called the school, St. Bethany, and well, within two weeks I'd been relocated from Cornwall to St. Bethany and a brand new life began." She shrugs as she leans back in her chair.
"Did you enjoy your stay there?"
"Yes, I did, but it never felt like home. I'm not sure Bellefonte will either, but here's for hoping, right?" The blonde shrugs her shoulders with a hopeful gleam in her eyes. "I think... I don't think I ever really got used to the idea of being... special, you know? Like, I still feel so human, but they make us out to be something entirely different. Like, we can't even tell humans that we exist. I sort of feel like... I'm living a lie, you know? Like I'm some kind of..."
"Outcast?"
"Yes!" The blonde snaps her fingers and nods. "Exactly!" She laughs nervously again as she leans back in her chair. "Like, there's something wrong with me-- oh, but I didn't mean to make this conversation awkward, I'm terribly sorry!"
"It's quite alright, Miss Dawson."
"You know what I'm looking forward to the most?"
"What?"
"Meeting my sister's friends. Like... The way she described them? Jack, Tim, Roxana, Isaac... Like, they all sounded so... Like characters taken out from some kind of magical fairy tale. She was so happy, and she loved them so much. Like, you could almost feel the love radiating from her. I'm so envious. I want people that make me smile like that too. I want people in my life that make me shine like a thousand stars. I want to love someone that much too."
"I'm sure you will, Miss Dawson."
"It reminded me of this one song I heard... Never to touch, and never to keep. You loved too much, and you dived too deep."
