"YES I MADE SECURITY SQUAD!" Cassidy generally didn't get too excited about anything, but she'd really wanted to make the squad. She liked protecting, and she'd been at this school long enough blending in as a shut-in student that she knew the ins and outs of the rules all too well. But getting on the squad wasn't enough. She knew that. She needed to train herself so that if an actual threat made itself known, she'd be ready. She took one of the bo staffs off the wall and walked towards the dummy, swinging and spinning the staff, throwing in a few kicks here and there. Finally she stopped and just stared at the thing.
"You are absolutely NO fun to fight. What kind of training is it supposed to be if I don't learn anything new?" She sighed, sitting down on the mats in front of the dummy cross-legged before starting deep breathing. Maybe if she was lucky someone would come in.

Devyn had just finished her training of the day, already heading back to go to her room as she munched on some jerky and to a quick swig of Gatorade. She had the Gatorade tucked under her arm, the bag of jerky in one hand, several slices of jerky in the other, and her favorite backpack on her back as she walked down the hall. It had been a good work out, on that was more so focused on some weight lifting since she had already completed her run earlier today around the campus. It was the yell that had caught her attention and changing her path from the dorm to the training room where the yell had come from.
She didn't go in right away at first, instead hanging out near the door as she munched on her snack and watched the girl. Dev could not fully recall meeting her but by the girl's words she assumed it was one of the people on the squad so she would at least see her more often depending if she had made alpha or beta. The girl was working with a...bo staff and was training by herself, which Dev saw nothing wrong with. Just as she was about to response her walk back to her room, the girl was speaking up about how she was not having fun. Clearly she was not the type who trained for her own physical betterment, which mean that she was likely a Beta member.
"Then make it fun. Turn on some tunes, train with your power, and spice things up." Devyn spoke up as she entered the room. Zipping up her bag of jerky as she worked on putting it back into her bag that she had set on the floor. She had time and it was not like she was completely drained so she could afford some hanging out and helping out the girl if she wanted or really needed it.

She heard a voice and jumped up, whirling around to face the person with her bo staff extended. Then she realized the person was just giving advice and she lowered her weapon.
"Oh. Firstly that would require using some form of technology to give me music. Not happening as they break around me. Not my power, just happens. Secondly, I'm wanting to practice other ways not involving my power so that I'm useful offensively as well as defensively."

The other girl jumped, quickly whirling around to face with her stick pointed in Devyn's direction, which just had Dev's head tilting to the side a little. She was not worried about the girl hurting her in any form of way, and felt confident enough that she would be able to defend herself just in case. Plus it was a stick, the worse Devyn could picturing happening would be that maybe she would get the urge to fetch or chew it. While the staff was pretty cool in movie and what not, Devyn could not help but feel the opposite of intimidated when it came to them.
"Well, then I'll just make sure that you don't touch it then." Devyn said as she pulled out her iPhone and little speaker set up. Her green eyes looked over the girl for a moment, not really certain if she would like her kind of workout music. Probably not, but worse case she could just go looking through her list for a while and was bound to find something that the other girl would like or at least tolerate for workout music. "As for you other reason, well I don't mind sparing with you a bit. I'm a bit sweating since I just finished my workout but I don't mind doing a little bit with you." Devyn said as she took another drink of her Gatorade.
She then ended up remaining on the floor so she could quickly stretch out. "Or, I could perhaps say things you could try doing to the dummy. Training is not really meant to be fun-fun." Devyn pointed out as she chuckled a little. Yeah, she enjoyed training but there was always a point where she asked herself why she was doing it and that was when she knew she was making a difference.

...technology. She sighed. And then the...girl? Girl mentioned sparring and she grinned.
"Either way is fine. And...if I feel myself making progress it's fun for me. Bettering myself gives me a rush. I love it. I know, I'm weird. I was a total nerd through middle and high school." She rolled her eyes and straightened up her five foot eleven frame.
"Of course, waiting for the security squad results kind of tied me up in knots for a bit, so this was also a good way of working that stress out. By the way, I'm Cassie Stryker." She teleported a little closer to Devyn with a POP and extended her hand to shake.

Devyn could not fully decide which song to go with so decide to just put the Workout Playlist on shuffle and let it make the call. How lucky; or unfortunate, that her device decided to pull up a female vocal dubstep set. Which basically was just a lot of songs with female voices in it slightly mixed to give a more dubstep vibe. "Hmm...could have sworn I moved that to another folder. Let's just leave that as background music and if a song comes on that really depends the vibe I'll change it." Devyn said as she left the device be for now and moved over closer to the girl who was stating to slightly ramble or something along those lines.
"So then what is that you feel working with the dummy is causing you to feel like you are not making any progress?" Devyn asked. she figured if she knew what the girl's problem was with that kind of training then she would be able to help out a bit more. Since the other girl said if she felt like she was making progress, then she was having fun. So Dev needed to find out how the girl felt like she was making progress so they could focus on doing that. There was talk about being a total nerd in middle school and high school, so that had to mean the girl had to be in high school. "Nothing wrong with being a nerd." Devyn responded with a small shrug.
As long as you were not that nerd that knew they were smart and rub it in everyone’s faces or did something stupid that would piss Devyn off. Like that stupid nerd Karsen who she was happy seemed to have vanished off the face of the earth. The girl was a bit taller than her, but that didn't change anything how Devyn felt because she still knew she was the alpha and felt confident she could take this girl if she needed to. Then the girl like appeared in front of her, causing Devyn to let out a growl since she had been a little startled by that action.
"Devyn Solway. Do me a favor and don't do that again without warning me first and allowing me to get used to it." Devyn pointed out as she chuckled slightly. She just didn’t want to end up hurting the girl for her body reacting in a split second as a result of someone getting close to her without allowing her time to properly react and register the action.

The music seemed cool. It made her feel calm kind of. And then the girl asked what was making her feel like no progress was being made and Cassie sighed.
"It's fine to attack a dummy, but if it's not fighting back I can't learn to react well enough to fight offensively. I need something that will react to whatever I do so I can learn what works and what doesn't." The comment about being a nerd not mattering made her chuckle.
"There is something wrong with it when you isolate yourself in order to get good grades. For college, I decided I'd actually get a social life." And then the girl reacted to her teleportation and Cassie laughed, grinning at the look on the other girl's face.
"I'm sorry...I do it automatically sometimes. I have good enough control of it that I sometimes do it without thinking. Which I shouldn't do because it's actually dangerous. But as long as I'm not touching anyone when I teleport it should be okay. But...I will try not to do that."

Devyn listened to the other girl as she spoke about what her problem was; all the while she was going through her backpack. Making sure to set her jerky and Gatorade in a nice location so she could access them and then taking out a special kind of tape that she started to wrap around her fist. The other girl made it basically clear that she needed a target that was going to move and react, one that would allow her to learn and put what she had learned to the test. In other words, she needed a sparring partner and Devyn didn't mind being that person.
Sure she had already worked out, but nothing wrong with getting a little extra workout in there. "Alright, I'll spar with you then." Devyn spoke up, giving a small nod. She needed to finish putting her tape on and then would ask what rules the girl wanted to have set so Devyn knew if she needed to hold herself back and what would not be allowed. She still listened as the other girl tried to point out why it was bad due to isolating herself in order to get good grades.
Once more Dev was shrugging her shoulders because she didn't see the problem with it minus not having the best of social skills. "Eh, well at least you got good grades, will help you get a job or something." Devyn responded. She didn't really know what else to say to it and figured she would let the girl know that college would be a great time to start and experience the world and learn to be social. The other girl had already said that was her plan, so she saw no point in trying to say that was what she should do if she was already going to do it.
"Well, just try not to do it in my personal space. I would hate to like attack you because you started me." Devyn responded. "But anyways, nice to meet you and I'm ready to spar when you are. You should lay out any ground rules. Like if you don't want any kicking or no powers involved." Devyn pointed out as she was already bouncing on her toes, getting nice and pumped up.

She heard the offer and raised an eyebrow.
"You don't have to. I mean..." Where were her manners today?
"Sorry. Thank you. That would be really helpful." She laughed when the person mentioned getting a job.
"Yes because I'm obviously so personable that there won't be other things that will prevent that." She rolled her eyes. The person spoke about personal space and ground rules and Cassidy shrugged.
"I'll try. But even if you did attack, who says I wouldn't react fast enough to get away? I mean, I'm a teleporter. Escape is kind of a specialty of mine. That being said, I'm going to say we try not to break any bones on either of us and not kill us. Or cause permanent injury. Otherwise, no problems. I need to learn to use my powers offensively as well as defensively so it'll be good for me. If you don't mind that is. But if you have a problem with my teleportation we can just not use powers."

"I know I don't have to. I'm choosing to, which is why I offered." Devyn pointed out. She always found it slightly interesting when someone would tell her she didn't have to do something that she offered to do. If she didn't want to do it, she would not have offered. While there was time when she was doing things to just be nice, she still had to desire to do it and she did. So long as the other girl was up for it, then Devyn had no problem being her sparring partner.
"Awesome." Devyn responded as she finished wrapping up her fist and was standing up, ready to go. They needed to lay out all those ground rules first and all, so she was not going to just jump right in to tackling the girl or anything like that. The comment about the job thing had Devyn chuckling a little as she shook her head. "You know what I mean. Smart people can get jobs a bit easier than that overall sociable person. Intelligence means skills and employers want those with skills so they can make the money." Devyn pointed out.
That was probably the wrong way of thinking about it, but that was her view on the working industry. Sure people wanted someone nice and friendly around the office but when it came down to it profits were the most important and if that social person didn't have the skills then they would not make it very far. Cassie was then making a good point about her power and then laying out what the rules of their sparring would be. Devyn nodding, understanding and accepting those terms. "Alright, then if you are going to use your power, I'm going to use mine." Devyn responded as she already started to work on pulling shadows towards her.
It would make her be able to react faster and do more in terms of going up against someone who could teleport. Then again, should she start off in her normal form first and go from there. It was obvious she was having the debate with herself since she stopped pulling her shadows, stood there, and looked like she was deep in thought.

She saw the shadows coming to her sparring opponent almost magnetically. She twirled her staff with a smirk. She was ready for this.
And then it stopped and she was just standing there. Or at least Cassie thought her opponent was a she. To be honest, she wasn't entirely sure about that. But that was besides the point.
"Come ON." She chuckled. She teleported with a POP behind her opponent and swung the staff at the backs of the knees. She wasn't above tricks.

Devyn had gotten caught up in her thoughts, trying to figure out which tactic would be best to go with for training with the other girl. They had agreed that powers could be used but did that still mean that Devyn should use her right off the bat? With her ability the longer she remained in her other form the more animal like she became and she was always cautious about not wanting to end up mauling another student. That would not look good on her record, considering she had sort of done it a few times in the past.
Never anything bad enough that someone needed to get some serious healing done, but enough to need stiches. Her fangs had killed before after all, but that had only been with SPECTRE agents and various animals. The girl was then yelling at her, causing Dev to startle slight since she was not expecting to be yelled out. Then the girl was vanishing and just as Dev heard the pop behind her, she was turning as fast as she could. She was not about to full avoid getting hit by the staff, but turned in enough time to get hit in the side of her leg; which didn't feel good at all.
She was quick to put some distance between them by jumping away from the other girl and quickly pulling shadows to her. It didn't take long for the shadow beast to emerge again and once it did Devyn was already leaping forward to try and tackle the other girl. It helped that she was still pulling shadows towards her, going for a decent high in this beast form so she would have more reach to sort of match the length the girl had added with the use of the staff.

She saw the other girl's reach widen as the shadows were drawn to her. She was moving almost before Cassie could process it, but she managed to dodge most of the blow by dodging to the side. Completely WITHOUT teleportation, she might add. She grinned, relishing the feeling of being challenged. She looked above her opponent and teleported midair, positioning her bo staff to aim for the other girl's torso.
Post by Devyn Solway on Oct 10, 2015 13:34:11 GMT -6
Devyn had not even moved to attack yet, yet the other girl was already dodging around like she was ready for it all. Dev would give her point for being ready but was chuckling on the inside by the girl's reaction to her just making her form larger. Dev had only pulled so many shadows to make herself larger, so that she could have enough reach when dealing with Cassie's staff and teleportation powers. One always had to be able to adjust to other factors and making herself larger in her beast form was how she adjusted to it. Dev was then ready to get to it, but before she could even do anything the other girl had already vanished from sight.
Oh, she is really into this. Devyn thought, unable to keep a smirk from overtaking her wolf muzzle as her ears flicked to where she heard that familiar pop. Above her? Dev was quick to turn her head in the direction of where Cassie would have been, which could have been her back, or either her left or right side since she was in her beast form and that meant that she was on all four legs instead of two like a human would be. To try and compensate for whatever side the girl appeared on, Dev use one of her tails to swing at her own left side, while the other swung at her own right side, and her head ready to try and grab a hold of the staff.

Cassidy realized while she was midair that in reality her opponent hadn't moved. So that had been a waste of energy. But this was geniu-CRAP THE OTHER GIRL HAD HER STAFF. THE GIRL HAD TAKEN HER STAFF FROM HER.
"Shit. Well that's a bit of an inconvenience." She hoped she'd land on the girl's back honestly. The girl was prepared for either side. And there was one thing Cassie had learned from brief conversations with socialite Ryan Alexander. An animal couldn't get something on their back, they could just get something off. Of course, Cassidy realized that meant she would have to hang on tight...and she wasn't up for that.
She actually landed on the right side of Devyn and she smirked.
"Fun. You can obviously give me a run for my money. And there's nothing I like better than a good run." She slid under the animal and touched the stomach, briefly making a tickling motion. No-one said she had to play fair. She just hoped it would have some effect. And that her opponent wouldn't file for assault. That would be a bonus if that didn't happen.
