Oh, oh how Demi strutted. They'd made her alpha. Alpha! They'd literally said that she was objectively better than a whole bunch of other students, older students, students including Vera's rough and tumble girlfriend. Demi was practically bouncing with excitement as she strode through the reception area, wearing her official security squad uniform with the alpha patch right there where everyone could see. She'd even gone out of her way to find the, like, three people she considered friends to drag them here so she could rub it in their faces.
And look! Another security squad member! Why, it looked like beta member Devyn Solway. Demi couldn't help but practically strut up to her fellow member, fighting the urge to beam. "Hey, it's Devyn, right?" She greeted, raising a hand as if she didn't already know. "I heard that you made the squad! That's pretty cool," oh yeah, but so much less cool than Demi herself. She just had to stand there for a bit, rub it in, see the look on Devyn's face when she saw. Not any more, oh no, Demi knew that going too far would mean they'd, like, strip it or something.
Nope, just a little far. And at least with this one. Because oh, how very tempting it was. The only way it could be better was if she found Vera herself...

Devyn had made the squad again, not that she had any doubt since she had been on it since way back when it first formed. She honestly didn't care if she was on Alpha or Beta because she knew she was skilled and if she really had to she could defeat anyone. Perhaps that was high thinking, but Devyn was just that confident in her abilities and knew what she was capable of. Not that she was concerned about any of that at the moment, not when there was grilled food to be had at and a girlfriend around here somewhere that she wanted to bother.
Vera was likely busy helping out with her job so Dev didn't want to be too big of a bother, but she was going to get a hold of her girlfriend later on. Dev was technically supposed to be working as well but at the moment she was busy munching on a plate of ribs that she had when she heard her name called out. The voice was not all that familiar but as soon as she spotted the younger girl she remember her from their little interaction on that bad kids camping trip. "I guess so. I mean I was on it since its creation so I figured I had a guaranteed spot anyways." Devyn said with a small shrug.
In part she only did it because it was a good use of her skills, allowed her to use her ability to protect those she cared for, and she also felt obligated on some level. The thought of Guy came to her mind for a moment before she refocused her mind on her plate of ribs and the younger girl. "Congratz on making it back on too. Didn't doubt you make it after our little spar but I didn't really picture you the type to want to work as a team and what not." Devyn said as she took a bite of her ribs, enjoying chewing on the bone a bit too much.

On since its creation? That was weird, as Demi definitely didn't remember seeing Devyn at, like, any of the training sessions, and she definitely hadn't been there when Roxana and Demi had been fighting fires and stuff. Plus, there was the fact that Demi could beat Devyn if it came down to it... though that fight had been pretty close. Close enough that Devyn actually had at least a bit of Demi's respect.
"Well, I'm awesome so of course they wanted me on," Demi said, rolling her shoulder slightly. "I'm even on alpha squad too: check it," she shifted to show off the appropriate insignia, before nodding and straightening herself out too. She looked up at Devyn, considering for a few moments. "You're really good," Demi said, "at fighting, anyway, so, like, you probably made it because of that."
Because Demi still wasn't entirely convinced of this whole always been on the squad thing. She also swore she'd seen the roster or something and Devyn hadn't been there. So... did that mean they thought Demi was better?

The big reason why Demi would not have seen Dev at the training sessions was because she had a big habit of not going. It was probably why she was still on Beta and not Alpha by now because she had yet to prove that she could fully work in a team. She had the combat skills, a bit of the training, and an ability that was very useful but also deadly to her team mates when out of control. She was going to work on it a bit more this time around; mostly because Vera had that whole 'potential talk' and what have you. She was at least going to show up for the training exercises, or try to.
Devyn could not help but to chuckle at the ego of Demi's showing up again as the other girl pointed out that she was awesome. "You were on it before too and you do have some skills when it comes to your abilities." Devyn pointed out. She had no trouble recognizing the girl for her talents when they were clearly there. No need to lie and say it was a fluke when it was not in the slightest. Devyn kept a grin on her face, amused, and finding it so cute how the younger girl was so proud of her new rank on the squad. "Nice. I'm sure you earned it Little HB." Devyn said, using the nickname she had given the little girl after having thought on it since the day they first met officially.
"Heh, thanks. I would hope they would not forget all the sh-stuff I did for them and the school, plus I want to help. Not like I'm doing it because I'm bangi-er well you know." Devyn said, fumbling a few times when she almost swore and spoke about the whole being with Vera. The younger girl didn't need to hear such words or know about such things. How old was she? Probably still young and innocent, it was so cute, and Dev could not help but to think who would catch this Little HB's heart one day.
"So, working hard? Spoke anything that needs some security fist to handle it?" Devyn asked with a smirk, standing up and punching her hand to her fist. Of course she was mostly kidding since violence was not supposed to be the first answer and all that jazz. No harm in having a little fun.

Oh yeah, Demi was completely awesome, and now she literally had the mark that proved as much. Plus, she'd apparently gotten in higher than Devyn... and wasn't Devyn, like, dating one of the heads of the Squad or something? Demi didn't really know for certain, since she really wasn't one to pay that much attention to that crap, but it seemed like something that would've been important.
"Little HB?" Demi repeated, tilting her head. She didn't know what that was all about. And she could swear that Devyn was also adding weird bits to the conversation too. It wasn't hard to confuse Demi, and she couldn't help but wonder if Devyn was doing it on purpose. Fortunately, there were some actual questions.
"Uh, yeah, I'm on duty or something," Demi replied, shrugging. "I already, like, checked in and stuff. Now I'm just sort of show---" Demi paused, considered, then shrugged. "Yeah, I'm showing everyone how now people really think I'm better than them. Like, I've got the symbol and everything."
Demi almost swelled then, grinning wide and seeming to be almost twice the size.

"Little Honey Badger. You remind me of a honey badger. Little but super tough and resilient. It's a work in progress nickname. I'll probably come up with something again later but for now Little HB works." Devyn responded with a nod. Then went back to taking a bite out of her ribs because she didn't plan to waste them and let them get too cold. She would still eat them even if they were cold, but having them hot tasted a little bit better. Even more so when the meat would just fall off the bone and make it all the easier to eat the meat now and chew on the bones later.
Devyn was not trying to confuse Demi or anything like that. She had nothing against the younger girl so long as Demi didn't just start fighting her girlfriend out of nowhere or causing a problem for Vera. That was pretty much all Dev cared about and while she did admire the younger girl for having the skills to go toe-to-toe with her girlfriend it was not like she would sit ideally by if Demi did it without reason. For now, that was nothing to worry about so Devyn kept enjoying her meal, slightly regretting not getting something to drink to go with it. "Good, you can pick up my slack then." Devyn responded, chuckling a little.
She was wearing her uniform as well, just without the top since she didn't want to get it dirty with her ribs. That and she figured if she didn't have the top half on, then people would assume she was on break; which she kind of was. She was on Beta anyways, so it was not like she had to be on the top of her game when Alpha was up. "Nice, it’s so cute how proud you are about it but that’s not a bad thing. Just don't let it go to your head." Devyn pointed out before she offered some ribs to the other girl. It felt rude to not share at least a little bit, even if Devyn was guarded about her food.
A... honey badger? Demi kept staring at Devyn, uncertain as to whether or not this was some kind of insult or something. she supposed that she might track down LDR later and ask him. It might take five minutes to get an answer, but at least he'd be able to tell her. For now, Demi was willing to just sort of go along with it. It did sound kind of awesome when Devyn put it like that, even if Demi still wasn't entirely convinced that she liked it. There were times when she didn't even like going by Demi.
"I'll pick up everyone's slack," Demi replied almost immediately. That phrase she at least knew, though that had been an interesting conversation. Just thinking about it made Demi swell a little more. Oh, she so had this thing. She was going to be awesome, way more awesome than people like Devyn, and they could all revel in just how cool she happened to be.
Cute? Proud? "It's cute how I can beat you up," Demi replied, smirking. "And most of the team too. I beat up both of the leaders of the squad, you know," which wasn't true, and it definitely wasn't true the way Demi more or less phrased it, which made it sound as if the beating up happened at the same time. Didn't phase Demi at all: let Devyn just bask in how much better she was at this sort of thing than her.

Devyn thought a honey badger was a good fit for the younger girl since the animal didn't look all that threatening, just like a giant ground hog and a skunk mixed together. Devyn knew that they were pretty fierce creatures and could take a serious beating as well as they could dish out one. Plus that whole sleeping off snake venom as if it was not big deal when that sort of thing killed other animals larger than the honey badger with little effort. All things that Dev felt fit the younger girl pretty well so she was Little HB for the time.
If Demi would have asked, Dev would have had no problem explaining as much, but it seemed like the younger girl accepted it and the conversation was moving on. "Nice, I'm sure they will be happy that they will be able to get more breaks then." Devyn responded, knowing that she would always enjoy getting breaks. She had no problem doing the work and would work hard when she needed to but she enjoyed her breaks and taking it easy when nothing important was going on. Just like this event, she didn't feel like it was super important other than just keeping an eye on everyone and everything.
She could do that while eating so was not too worried about it at the moment. It really was adorable how Demi seemed so prideful and just happy about her status. It made Dev wish that she had found her passion but she had not yet. This job was good for someone like her and it did hold true to what she wanted to do when she was younger but it didn't really seem to be the path she would make a living out of. "Well, I would not really call that cute and I did have to hold back. You did beat me but I also didn't want to maul you." Devyn pointed out.
She had no problem with losing to the other girl but didn't want Demi to think that she would always win in a fight against her. "Oh? For real? Even that white haired chick? Rox girl?" Devyn asked, since while she knew Demi had fought Vera she didn't really see the younger girl beating someone up like Rox. She didn't see anyone beating that girl up or even dare trying with just that vibe the girl gave off. However; Dev was tempted to fight Rox now.
"Course they well, 'cuz they're lazy," Demi said, keeping her arms crossed and practically swelling. Demi definitely had this job thing down, which was probably why they'd gone ahead and made her Alpha and everything. Though Demi wasn't sure that she actually wanted to do Security for, like, ever. It was something she figured she'd always do to some degree, but there were other things she liked more.
Devyn's protests just had Demi rolling her eyes. "Yeah, sure, whatever makes you feel better," Demi had won, plain and simple. Let Devyn go on about how there had been extenuating circumstances or something like that. These older people were great about saying stuff like that. If you lost, you lost. You could whine about it and demand rematches and be upset, but it was still a loss.
Which did remind Demi of her encounters with Roxana, which Devyn was pointing out now. Demi looked away for a moment. "Uh, yeah we've totally fought and she gave up," which was true, if only because Demi had given up too. Demi supposed she could probably just bluster or lie or whatever. "I train with her all the time," which wasn't a lie. "She's actually pretty good. Like, better than you, and you're already good." Demi would technically rank Roxana a little above herself... for now, but she definitely wasn't going to tell Devyn that.
Post by Devyn Solway on Oct 6, 2015 13:30:40 GMT -6
"Probably true...or just busy with other things." Devyn responded as she made a point to take another bite of what she was eating. She would not deny that at the moment that she was being kind of lazy, but she was hungry and needed to eat if she was expected to give her best. When she was done eating and taking care of those basic needs then she would get back on the clock and work hard. Make the school proud and all that jazz so that they could start to trust her a bit more and she could get actual praise for the work that she did. Instead of people just accepting it and taking off her debt and general record of lack of trust for her when it came to certain things.
Demi just rolled off Devyn's words and said that whole 'whatever makes you feel better line', which had Devyn almost tempted to hit demi on top of her head. She didn't, she was busy eating her ribs and was not all that bothered by the younger girl's high and mighty thinking right now. Let her have her moment of feeling all bad ass because she made the alpha squad or whatever else had her mood so high. Dev didn't want to rain on her parade. Devyn tilted her head to the side at hearing Demi and Roxana had fought, but Bleach had given up. Was that really losing? Devyn didn't care all that much and was just curious as to why someone like Rox would give up in a fight or how she could even lose.
Perhaps that aura about her was not all that true...not that Dev was super tempted to test it, but tempted enough. "Oh? Vera trains with her a lot too." Devyn responded, almost about to ask how training with such a person was but Demi was soon giving her an answer and gave a complement to Devyn even. A complement of sorts anyways considering what the girl added onto it. Well, at least Demi thought that she was good too. "Thanks...I think." Devyn said, sounding uncertain. "Want some?" Devyn then asked, offering up a rib to Demi, figuring out if she should ask the question that was hanging around in her mind about the younger girl.
Busy with other things? Stupid things, maybe. Demi was almost tempted to go with that one herself. She was almost tempted to go on with a lot of things, but there was meat. Meat was distracting, particularly when it was of the rib variety. How had Demi missed the ribs? She'd seen the, like, burgers and hot dogs and stuff, but not that. She was practically following it like some kind of starved animal while Devyn kept talking.
Thanks, training, whatever. Demi didn't care. "Vera needs lots of training," came out, but more automatically than anything else, just a gut response that Demi couldn't quite contain or control. She kept following until: "Yes," and she practically snatched the rib out of Devyn's hands. Demi held it and stared for a few seconds, practically drooling. Then she brought it up and started ravaging it in a manner that would probably remind Devyn of wolves or other dogs, all the while looking over at Devyn.
"Where did you get these?" Demi demanded through a mouthful of food. She started looking around, desperate to find more.
Post by Devyn Solway on Oct 10, 2015 13:42:39 GMT -6
Devyn of course noticed how Demi's eyes locked onto the ribs as if they were the greatest prize in the world. They were certainly up there by Devyn's standards but then again a lot of meats would be up there along with certain males and females; just Vera for that category now. Dev could not help but the move the piece of rib around, loving how Demi's eyes would follow it around, and just because it was fun to tease a little. At least this got things away from talking about the squad and Demi's self-ego boost. "Everyone, needs lots of training. Always, no one is perfect." Dev pointed out when Demi spoke about how Vera needed lot of training.
She was tempted to not offer Demi anything at all now, but she was not going to be that mean. Dev just hoped that Demi would get the picture that she could not talk bad about Dev's girl in front of Dev and expect things to go smoothly. Vera had worked her butt off and had come a long way, Dev knew that because she had watched and see just how far her girlfriend came and she didn't want some child trying to downplay that effort in anyways. Dev handed the rib over when Demi said that she did indeed want it, half watching the other girl eat while she went back to eating what was still on her plate.
Like a pup, but of the earth. An elemental wolf pup like me but earth instead of darkness. I can work with that. Dev thought to herself, even nodding a few times. "Over there. Want to go get some more or are you too busy?" Devyn asked, her tone implying something a little as she smirked a little. She made sure to point in the direction of where she had gotten the ribs and even started to walk backwards in the direction, trying to tempt the younger girl further.
Post by Demi Smith on Oct 10, 2015 23:57:58 GMT -6
"Some need more than others," Demi replied, smirking as she said it. She was also tempted to point out that she got plenty of training. Barely a day went by without Demi practicing her skill in one form or the other. She woke up and almost immediately entered Flow after all, and she didn't intend to stop any time soon.
Ribs now. First eating them, then looking up at Devyn as she talked about getting more. Demi followed the gesture, tracking the smell and the direction of the meat. "Not busy enough to ignore ribs," she said, practically drooling now. There was something about just getting meat and all, particularly meat that had been smoked over a fire or roasted or whatever it was they did with their meat here. Plus, Demi knew that meat helped you build muscle, and she was pretty much muscle anyway.
"So c'mon," Demi said, jerking her head, "let's get some more meat already." She was waiting because she wasn't sure where it was, after all.

Devyn just let out a low growl at Demi’s statement about some needing it more than others. That did have some truth to it, but she just hoped that Demi was not talking about Vera. They all needed to keep training and working on because none of them were perfect, but she just had a problem with anyone talking about someone she cared about in a bad way. She didn’t say anything more on it for the time being, not wanting her mood to turn too bad too soon.
The topic ended up on ribs, so that helped change up the mood and general thought process that Devyn had going on. “Cool, follow me then.” Devyn responded when Demi responded that she was not busy to the point to be able to pass up on ribs. That was Devyn’s thinking on the matter and why she was takin g a break of sorts to enjoy them. With Demi’s pointing out that she did in fact want them, Dev had no problem leading the way to where she had gotten the ribs.
As they were approaching it would be clear that this was an area where the real meats were being cooked up. Just the scent in the air would make any carnivores mouth water and make them hungry for whatever was being cooked. Dev already had her ribs so was satisfied for the time being, so she stood back and let Demi go at it. “Right there, that’s where I got the ribs and if you wait around a bit longer, I heard they were going to be putting steak on next.” Devyn pointed out, eager for the steak specifically.
Post by Demi Smith on Oct 23, 2015 21:40:48 GMT -6
Was that a growl or something? Demi nearly wanted to smirk. Let Devyn bark or do whatever it was that got her all excited and whatnot. Because Demi would have no problem at all beating her up again. Give her something to do while she was waiting around for Roxana or someone else to show up. Except that the subject had ended on ribs, and Demi was definitely looking forward to getting some of that.
Yeah, it was pretty clear where the meats had been cooked. Demi should've noticed this before now but, well, she was busy doing her security squad thing. The smells wafted their direction, nearly making Demi's mouth water. "It does smell awesome," Demi admitted.
She had to snort at the thought of their giving steak out. In fact, one of the adults nearby heard and chuckled, informing them that if there was steak, it definitely wasn't getting handed out to students. They'd be lucky to get ribs. Demi's eyes narrowed at that. "I think we should beat someone up and take their meat," she said, looking over at Devyn. It might not have been the best idea but, well, she was hungry, and now kinda irritated and wanting to punch this guy in the stomach.
