It was Friday night, the start of the weekend. For most it would be considered a great day of the week. No work or school until Monday. Just the weekend ahead of them, but for Levi it was like any other day of the week. The thought of the weekend didn’t affect him much. Time was a fluid concept to him. The hours blended with days, days with weeks, weeks with months and so on. So here he was, twenty-seven years old back in his hometown after years of bouncing around in Europe. It felt like just yesterday that he made the most troubling decision to return to Kalispell. Perhaps it was in a moment of weakness that he felt reminiscent and craved a more steady and permanent place to call home. No matter of his past, this will always be his home. That thought terrified and disgusted him, but at the same time it was also oddly comforting. Christ.
Days like today, days where the thoughts came one by one fluttering to the front-line of his mind was when he tended to take a walk down to his favorite bar in town. His visits have been become more frequent since he first returned two years ago. Levi entered the all too familiar bar and to his luck his seat at the bar was wide open waiting for him, beckoning him to come. He furrowed his brows slightly irritated with himself. As he approached the bar stool, the one thought he dreaded the most, the one that would set him off, hit him the hardest it had ever done so before. What are you doing with your life? Levi let out a small huff as he took his seat at the bar. He nodded politely at the bartender who had already so kindly had prepared his drink for him as soon as he had entered the bar. Was he that predictable? Guess so. Levi threw back his Whiskey sour as if it were a shot. The bartender had his second one line up already. This one he would take his time with, hopefully.
Levi had been so caught up in his own head that he completely missed the person seated next to him. He glanced over as he took another large sip of his drink. The bar was as it usually was, a few people sprinkled about. He came he to drown his thoughts, not sulk about and dwell on them. That’s what tomorrow was for, until Levi figured out something else to distract him. Perhaps he’d take his babies for a trip in the woods. Who knows. That was for the tomorrow Levi to figure out. The present Levi wanted to not think tonight, shut his mind down. He looked at the person next to him who seemed lost in their own thoughts just as Levi was. Shrugging he lifted his glass at the person, “To the weekend, I guess.” He said, as he shrugged once more and downed what was left of his drink.
