Player 2?

Erin was doing whole 'go play a multiplayer game out in a public area and invite someone to come play with you' thing again. The last few times she thought were going well but they never finished and she also had never seen the people again. Perhaps she was picking the wrong games to play but it was not like she had a lot of multiplayer games except for the fighting and shooting ones. The other ones were just not to her taste and she honestly only liked the shooting ones just so she could get the desire to destroy people out of her.

Oh well, she was giving it one more shot and hoping for the best before she would never do this public play things again. So here she was, in the student lounge again and borrowing one of the TVs and this time she brought Street Fighter IV. It was a multiplayer game and had fighting but not as hard core as Mortal Kombat but still fun. Now she just had to ask if someone wanted to play with her, which was as hard as it always been. still, she took a deep breath and swore to herself the first person that walked into the lounge she was going to ask to play with her.

Just her luck, it was a female. Those with all the power must really hare me. Erin thought to herself as she let out a small sigh. She gave herself a mental pep talk before quickly going over to the girl and holding out the second control. "Would you please be my player two?" Erin asked, quickly and then felt awful. How could she just run up to the girl and ask her that. She probably scared her, just great.

    Amara made her way to the student lounge with a book in hand read to start what she’d picked up at the store earlier this week, when she saw someone was already there. She paused as she was offered a controller and looked back up at the girl with a smile, “Sure, I’d love to. What’re you playing?” she asked. As she set her book down and took the controller.


    Amara loved video games and had played quite a few with her sister and her friend Darrick when growing up. She had missed being able to play with other people since she’d gotten to Bellefonte, and now the opportunity had just been dropped into her lap. She couldn’t be happier. And it was a girl, a very cute girl. Whatever existed above must love her.


    Amara held out the hand not holding a control offering a hand shake, “I’m Amara, by the way,” she introduced herself with a grin. She was so happy to be going to school again, even if it was just one three hour course to start with, and now, she was actually happy to be attending Bellefonte. She used to feel so restricted by the fact that she only had one option if she wanted to stay in the states for college, but she was gradually warming up to the place.

Erin was not sure what to expect when she asked the first girl that came into the area if she would play a video game with her. There were a few girls at the school that played video games but very few that were super into them like Erin was. So you could imagine how happy she was and also freaking out even more when the girl said yes. She said yes! Woo! Told you that you had this! Just had to go up and ask her all smooth like, the ladies can't say no to this. Yeah, that's right. Building my ego. Erin thought to herself as she smiled and then realized she didn't answer the girl’s question.

What had even been the question?! Damn not paying attention and giving yourself an over the top pep talk. Erin mentally scolded herself as she figured the best way was to just guess based on context clues. "It-it's street fighter four. But if you don't like that I could uh...get something else...if you want." Erin responded as she started to walk backward towards the couch where she had the game set up for now the two of them to play. This was going to be awesome if she could keep it together and not totally mess things up.

There was a hand out, extended to her to shake hands, and an introduction of names. Oh crap, she forgot to do that too. "Hackett. Erin Hackett. Nice to meet you Amara." Erin said quickly as she took the hand and gave it a good shake. Probably shaking it too long for the normal social handshake but she did end up letting for and quickly focused on the game. "You know this game at all? Like how to play it or...well I guess asking if you ever played it before works." Erin said, muttering towards the end as she felt like she had asked the question the wrong way.

    Amara was glad for another chance to get to know some of the people here. She was usually more inclined to read alone or stay in her dorm, so socializing was always an effort but this time, she got to socialize while playing a game. And it had happened without her even having to try and walk up to somebody to start a conversation, which was always so much more difficult than it seemed.


    Amara nodded to Erin, as she’d heard really good things about the game, but hadn’t yet had the chance to play it. She was excited to see what it was like. “No, no it’s perfectly fine. I’ve always liked fighter games,” she admitted. It was nice to get out some of her pent up energy while not actually running the risk of damaging anything… or anyone. Not that Amara had ever been the violent type, but there was always the off chance that she could hurt somebody on accident she supposed.


    “Pleasure’s all mine, Erin,” she replied with a warm smile. She didn’t mind the girl holding on for a bit, as social norms had never really been her strongest point either. “And I haven’t played this, though I have played a few others like it,” Amara admitted. She was looking forward to learning how to play although she also knew it took patience from the other player to teach things like this, “I’m a quick learner if you’re willing to teach,” she offered. She was also willing to play something else of the girl just wanted to be able to play without having to teach her first.

Erin was just happy that she had managed to actually get up the courage to even ask someone to play video games with her. It was still hard to talk to people in general but she was clearly getting better at it, so bonus. Add with the good luck that the girl was at least willing to try the game and was fine with fighting games. Erin personally was not a huge fan of them other than the fact it was great for getting out any pent-up feeling by just button smashing and destroying your opponent. "A-awesome. I just wanted something where I could just be able to punch something...without punching something." Erin muttered out as she headed back over to the game.

Not that she wanted to punch this girl, not she would prefer to make love to a girl then beat her up any day. Come on Erin, you just met her. Focus on video games. Erin mentally scolded herself as she worked on picking which fighter she was going to play after getting the whole two player match set-up. The other girl certainly had manners, using the words 'pleasures all mine', she must have had parents that were big on manners. "Oh it's okay. With fighter games you don't really need to know how to play in order to win. It just helps you win a lot faster if you know how to play." Erin pointed out. She had met people who were pros at the game and literally would bust out all the combo moves before you got to do anything and were dead in a second.

There were also still a lot of times where a new player would beat them just from button smashing. It was just one of those games Erin would never really consider a person needed to be skilled at it. "I...yeah, I would love to help out. The uh...menu pretty much lays out which buttons do what." Erin said as she slowly reached over to press a button on the girl's control. It would bring up a menu, saying which buttons did what, and even listed a few combos. Erin didn't really know how to teach someone how to play a game like this without just playing it.

    Amara laughed at Erin’s comment, “I love that. It’s one of my favorite things to do,” she agreed easily. “Not that I’m an incredibly violent person or anything,” she added, just to clarify. “But we all have those times when we need to vent energy,” she said as she hoped she didn’t give off the wrong impression. People sometimes liked to categorize her as aggressive no matter what she did though. Ah well, hopefully this girl wasn’t one of them. Erin seemed to be nice though, so Amara wasn’t too worried.


    Amara then grinned and nodded in agreement with Erin before paying close attention to what buttons did what. Button smashing was fun, and Amara was definitely familiar with the concept, but she also loved to compete. Darrick and Toby and her had always gotten a little too into the games they played together, and sometimes fights would even break out. But that was when she was a young child. Amara didn’t fight over simple games anymore… or at least, not unless she was with family and her dear friend.


    Amara glanced to Erin once she was pretty sure she’d relatively gotten the hang of the basic moves and combos, “Alright, I think I’ve got it. Thanks for the patience,” she offered with a sincere smile after having picked out her own character. She was excited and ready to play. Amara felt a slight sense of almost nostalgia, but she pushed it away in favor of focusing on the game in front of her. There would be time to think about Toby and Darrick later.

The other girl laughed, and as always Erin was in love with the sound. What was it about a girl's laughter that made it feel like she was being kissed by kittens? Well, the latter was a lie because it felt more like she had gotten an epic gear drop when she heard a girl laugh and she was the cause of it. You got this Erin, she is so going to want to be friends with you in no time. Erin thought to herself as she could not help but to grin and nod her head several times at Amara's agreement with her statement.

"Right, I mean like...you don't seem violent at all. Very sweet and pretty but! Uh...like yeah everyone needs to blow off steam so they don't become a violent person." Erin spoke up, feeling a little stupid at her fumbles in there. Dang, she had to get it back together, she was doing so good and had to get back to that if she wanted to make a friend. She really, really wanted to make more friends because it was her goal and it also felt nice to have friends after not having them for years. All that mattered right now was that Amara agreed with her and understood what they meant.

They could relate in that aspect about not being violent but needed to vent and Erin found video games the best way to vent. Erin had no problem waiting for the other girl to work out all the buttons, because it meant they would be able to have that much more fun. That and she were getting herself used to be around the other girl and the fact that they would be gaming together. It helped her calm down and by the time Amara let her know that she was ready, Erin felt pretty relaxed.

"No problem. Let the games begin and the odds be ever in your favor." Erin said, pulling from a book reference three before she cleared her throat and started the game, moving her character in right away to start kicking and punching. She would go easy a little bit at first until Amara seemed to get into it.

    Amara smiled at Erin’s compliments, “Why thank you,” she replied sincerely. “I think you’re lovely and sweet as well,” she offered with a genuine warmth in her tone. Amara had always had a soft spot for younger women. There was a strong part of her that wanted to protect or mentor or help them if she could, but there was also the soft side of her that just loved being around their energy.


    Amara grinned at her reference to Hunger Games and nodded, focusing intently on the game. She appreciated Erin’s letting her get used to the controls and how to maneuver her character. Amara pressed what buttons she remembered and even accidentally got in a combo which made her cheer… Ok, so maybe she still got way into video games, but hey, it was a competitive game.


    Amara soon picked up the pace as she got used to the feel Street Fighter and grinned, temporarily forgetting about the fact that they were in the Student Lounge and that other people could technically walk in at any time. What did she care even if they did though? She may have been older than the typical college student, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t have fun, which she definitely was while playing with Erin.

Erin felt like a millions bucks when Amara thanked her with that smile, girl's smiles were always the best. Then she felt like that millions bucks had been lit a flame; in a good way, but Amara returning the complement. Erin could not help but to start to blush as she quickly looked back to the TV and tried to focus on the video game. Playing a video game would allow her to calm down a lot and be able to talk in a more relaxed way with the other girl like she was going for. It was still difficult to just being sitting on the same couch, playing the same game, and looking at the same screen with another girl.

Okay, she had done all that before but this was with a new girl that she didn't know much about and had not done her research on. So she just felt like it was different and also felt pretty good that she was not making a complete fool out of herself. At least not yet. Thankfully things were going pretty way with the game. Soon Amara seemed used to the game and then the two of them were actually getting into it. "Nice combo" Erin could not help but to speak up when Amara pulled it off. Even if it meant it took a large chunk out of her health, she didn't mind. In truth Erin was not actually all that good at fighting games so was not expecting to wing at all.

She was still having fun all the same and was feeling a lot more relaxed around the other girl as they continued to play match after match and Erin would even suggest the other girl trying out other characters and giving single player a shot to see how she did going again the CPU. "You are pretty good at this. Are you sure you are not some secrete pro?" Erin asked, teasing a little bit with even a small chuckle. It was only after she said it that she started to blush again and fumble with her control. That was super flirty. Kind of. The game is making you too chill....well that is a good thing. Erin thought to herself.

    Amara absolutely loved this. She had been so worried about not being able to connect with the students here since she was 23, but she'd found little basis for such worry so far. They'd seemed to be warm and welcoming regardless of the fact that she'd dropped out and she hadn't found it too difficult to be able to relate to them either. Life at Bellefonte was definitely looking up.


    Amara grinned, "Thanks," she replied honestly, but even with that, Erin was still winning. Amara felt her entire being relaxing as she continued playing matches with Erin. It reminded her so much of home, that she honestly felt a bit nostalgic but she shrugged it off easily enough. This was fun and exciting and she wouldn't focus on memories, no matter how pleasant, while she was here with this engaging young woman.

    Amara laughed lightly at Erins question, "No, I'm no pro. I just got competitive when I played against my sister and my friend. We would get so serious about the games that sometimes we'd even get into fights about them. But we always made up quickly enough afterwards," she admitted easily. Amara felt surprisingly content and at ease while talking with Erin and she wasn't sure why but she wasn't going to question it either. It was so nice to have someone that she could just hang out with.

Erin just nodded her head several times when Amara thanked her for the kind words. Erin felt like she was on top of the world again. Okay, so that might have been over the top but it was something along those lines. It just made her happy to be able to make someone else happy and just getting a smile from the other girl. Then she was getting a laugh from the other girl about her question on if the girl was a pro or not. Sure Devyn still managed to pull of wins, but the other girl was still pretty good.

Okay, perhaps not pro level but the girl was still doing pretty good for what she said earlier. "Oh, I see. Well that makes sense your aggressive tactic." Erin spoke up as she was nodding her head again several times. Not that anything was wrong with the aggressive tactic, it was very effective in this kind of game when it mattered who would get the first hit or not. "That’s good that you guys didn't stay mad at each other long...I...I uh don't have to worry about you beating me up...do I?" Erin asked a little bit nervous.

She was more of a runner and sneak attack kind of person then a direct attack. Like a ninja. Yes, she was so picturing herself as a ninja now. This was nice, all of it, but if it meant that she was going to get beat up for a game. She would let the other girl win if that would be the case.
