It was Saturday, or maybe Sunday, Levi could never seem to keep track of the days. It was a bit frustrating, but at the same time he could not care less. Why were a majority of his thoughts and feelings so contradictory? Nevertheless, it was the weekend, he was sure of it. There were more people out than normal. Whether it was due to the gorgeous day or the weekend, he couldn't tell, nor did he care. Today would be about his babies, not him.
Levi walked downtown. He took his time as he headed towards the park with his hands barely gripping the leash. He absolutely dreaded putting them on leashes. He felt it was an unnecessary restraint. He wanted them to feel free. They were the most well behaved and trained dogs Levi had ever met. He made sure to put all of his time and energy in training them for that purpose alone. They would never dare harm anyone or anything, unless Levi commanded them to, which of course he never would. Normally, he would take them to his spot in the forest and let them roam about freely, but as of late Levi has had a strange feeling about going there and has been avoiding it for that reason. So here he was, forced to put both Axel and Luna on a leash and walk them down to the park, where hopefully he would be able to let them off for a little. Levi recalled back when he had first got them. They were so precious, the most beautiful pups he had ever seen. He had to have them, and so of course, he did whatever he needed to to get them. Levi thought back to the first time he had taken just Axel out for a walk. He was still a new owner and Axel was just an happy, excited, and energetic puppy. Levi had kept him around the vicinity of his apartment and he was behaving well, until a child came walking down the sidewalk bouncing a tennis ball. All Axel wanted to do was play, and he immediately jumped on the girl trying to grab the ball. The little girl and her father who wasn’t far behind had mistaken the pups innocence as an attack.
Levi had tried to calm the child and explain to her what had transpired, which seemed to work. The child hadn’t been harmed, just a bit shaken up, but it only took one sentence that came slithering out of her father’s mouth to set Levi off. “THAT MONSTER SHOULD BE KEPT ON A LEASH.” Levi quickly shook the memory out of his head.
There were plenty of people filling up the park. Levi looked down at his babies. They looked so happy. He smiled slightly, and proceeded through the park looking for the best spot to claim as his own. He adjusted the backpack that was slung over his right shoulder and let go off the leash. Just because he isn’t holding the leash doesn’t mean that they aren’t still on it right? Axel and Luna maintained the same distance in front of Levi as they had been the entire walk over. Levi’s hazel eyes locked on to a tree about a few yards from where they were. He let out a short, but loud whistle, and right on cue Axel and Luna both simultaneous looked up at him as he pointed over to the tree. At once, they both darted over to the tree, their leashes were flying in the air behind them. Levi watched them carefully and as soon as they reached the tree they circled it twice, laid down in front of it and started to pant.
When Levi reached the tree he looked down at them and smiled. He placed his backpack on the ground next to them and squatted beside it. He unzipped it and pulled out two silver metal bowls and a water bottle. He poured water into each of the bowls and placed it in front of Axel and Luna. They stood at once and began to drink. Levi made himself as comfortable as he possibly could. He leaned his back against the trunk of the tree and moved his backpack next to him, his hand still rummaging around inside of it. He pulled out two tennis balls and placed them on his lap. Levi glanced out ahead, his eyes slowly panned around taking in the scenery. He took in a few deep breathes as he felt Axel’s and Luna’s head rest on either side of his lap. “Soon.” He said, as his eyes continued surveying the park.
