“We’ve got a winner!”
Quinn so not expect that phrase to come out that he actually didn't believe it was the man before him who said that at first. To be honest, Quinn doubted his decision to come here. He did for one reason only: he never went to a fairground before. The curiosity took over. And the fact it was the school that organized the whole thing, meaning it was bound to cost a lot less than if he went all by himself.
Still, it didn't take Quinn very long to realise that he had little interest in rides and even less in the different games offered. As for the different contests and activities, since he was not seeing himself winning any of those, he didn't want to try. Sure, participating was all the fun. Whatever. If he thought he had a tiny chance of winning, maybe he’d think that but he didn’t so he saw no reason to try. Basically, Quinn was being himself and he realised that the summer festival was at the polar opposite. But he had no idea how he was supposed to go back to school in other ways than how he came here to begin with and he doubted they would let him go back to Bellefonte and spoil the fun of all the other students who, unlike him, enjoyed it. So he wandered around, tasted a bit of food, tried some of the rides. And played games.
This one was not really a game. Just a ‘throw the ball from the top and hope it lands on a prize’ kind of thing. He didn't even pay attention as the ball slid down. Until he heard he won. Now, he could barely believe it. And what did he won?
“Here’s for you, son,” the man in charge said as he handed him his prize. A teddy bear. Two dollars to toss a ball down slides and he won a freaking teddy bear!
