Rob licked his lips before adjusting his grip on the guitar. his fingers slid down the strings in a familiar manner, sliding into positions he'd taught himself some time ago. A small pick of plastic had been pinched between the fingers: battered and beaten and definitely looking like it had seen better days. The guitar, on the other hand, was brand new. In point of fact, the guitar happened to be so new that a price tag still bobbed from the end of it.
which didn't seem to be bothering Rob in the slightest.
The redhaired minstrel flicked and pulled a tune out of the guitar, releasing it into the mall's music shop, blotting out and somehow running along with the music playing overhead. Rob could hear it and more or less match, his fingers moving the frets on the neck while blurring across and pulling the right notes from the strings below. He hummed to himself, more focused on playing, on getting the guitar right than anything else.
didn't stop him from looking around at the few people already gathered. "It's not quite a spectator sport, least if you don't want it to be," Rob said in his slightly lilting voice, the tone having picked up about half a dozen accents and pulled bits and pieces from each. He smiled and nodded, looking from one to another, searching for a partner in this particular bit of tomfoolery.

Music had always been a solace for Addison so it wasn't that big a surprise that she found herself standing in the sheet aisle of the music store in town.
It wasn't long until she heard the strumming of probably an amateur messing with a guitar. They were usually pretty bad and she always had a good laugh at their antics but today, there was something quite different about the playing.
She paused in her rifling through the bin of classic rock sheet music to turn and walk over to the player only to find him already surrounded by people.
Addison squeezed through to find the guy playing. She found what he said confusing but shrugged and picked up another guitar close by and asked, "What chord are you playing in?" She asked, ignoring the whispers and stares she was starting to get.
She knew fame was going to come at a price but that wasn't going to stop her from playing with someone who clearly knew what he was doing.
Well, well, a pretty girl who opened with a question that made it sound like she knew what he was doing. "Hmm, good question," Rob closed an eye and looked up at the nearest speaker. "Been playing along with that," he gave it a nod before letting his fingers move. "Seems to be the standard 'G'," he looked over at her and gave another nod. "Can play along with whatever you want though."
He knew that some people could find that somewhat patronizing, or possibly as though he were bragging. He certainly didn't meant it to be the first, and he didn't see much issue with the second, not if there was a pretty enough face involved. There definitely seemed to be a pretty enough face here, and Rob was getting the vibe here, that one that told him they should be exchanging the secret handshake (not the dirty one, since we know your mind is going there already. shame on you).

Tuning the guitar in her hands, Addison plucked a few strings to see how she could complement the guy's playing. Finally finding the sound she was looking for, she nodded at the guy to continue.
It didn't take long for Addison to get into the music and soon enough she was singing to the song playing, guided also by the guy on the other guitar. She had had to hand it to the guy, he was no amateur. He knew exactly what to do with his hands.
The small and rather sparsely spaced crowd seemed to be enjoying the show and she made sure she made eye contact with all of them, just how her manager always taught her to do.
The girl figured it out quick enough to show that Rob's guess regarding her skills had proven to be fairly accurate. he smiled at that, nodding along for a few seconds as they both picked up the rhythm and began playing in harmony with one another. the girl took the lead, more or less, and Rob fell in with playing a sort of counter melody, the position easy enough for him to take. He'd accompanied a few people as they played along in his travels, and when they were good, and she was, it wasn't that hard to do so.
The crowd seemed interested. Rob fancied them with a smile, nodding at one or two, even winking. It took him a bit to realize that the girl had started singing along as well, her voice overwhelming the lower bit coming from the speakers above. Rob nodded a bit then sang a counterpart, mostly doing appropriate "ahs" and "ohs." Sometimes you had to know when to play.
Rob could also see that a few of the employees had drifted over, at least one giving the instrument nervous looks, as though they expected the two musicians to break something at any moment. Grinning, Rob tilted his head toward his accompaniment, giving her a tilt toward the other person to clue her in. Not that he stopped playing all the while. If anything, he was almost tempted to try sliding his power into the music, see if there was anyone around who could use a bit of touchup.

Smiling as she realised he was dialing his playing back a little for her, Addison happily played at her usual level of enthusiasm when it came to music. As she was already looking at her musical partner, his head tilt was quickly noticed and she grinned at one of the staff who seemed to recognise her and patted her colleague and whispered in his ear.
She turned to look back at her redheaded companion and continued to sing.
At a pause in the music, she got closer to the guy and moved in to speak in a low tone. "How about it dude, take requests?"
Looking back at the staff who recognised her, realising her friends had also started to recognise her, Addison raised a shoulder and tilted her head. "Can we take in some requests?"
Rob found himself lapsing into some humming even as they tilted their heads. The girl had apparently been recognized; must have been around here longer than Rob. Then again, most of the money in the register had been in town longer than Rob. The thought made him smile, and he was still smiling as they paused.
The smile didn't even fade as the girl spoke in low tones. Rob looked over at the staff, who seemed to be considering it as well. The playing had brought people around, and a few were even looking at the instruments in a way that made it seem less like they were on display and more like they were actually something you could use for yourself. Rob and the girl had definitely broken a few rules here, but they'd also drawn something resembling a crowd, and in a store at that.
"Fine by me," Rob said, giving a nod. He didn't wait for the staff, instead looking out at the gathered crowd. "Anybody want to suggest anything not called 'Freebird'?" He asked, arching his brows and looking. He did lean over. "If we end up playing country," he said with a slight tease in his voice, "you are so taking the lead."

"What in the heck is Freebird?" Addison chuckled quietly as her eyes went to the crowd, a tinkle of laughter escaping her at his tease. "No way, you're on your own there."
She started hearing some suggestions; she heard some Elvis, Nirvana, Britney Spears and One Direction. She couldn't help but laugh at the sheer gap of genre and how so very different the people's requests were.
The staff completely forgotten, she did hear someone mentioning Weezer "Did someone say Island in the Sun? Do you know that one?" She turned to her companion once more with a grin.
"You need to play more bars," Rob replied easily enough, letting enough of his voice tingle through the words as he did. his fingers had already started absently strumming, as if needing something to keep them busy. he stopped them when he realized, listening to the various suggestions. He knew enough Nirvana and Elvis to fake it. Didn't recognize the Britney Spears request, but knew at least One Direction.
"At least nobody's asking for metal," he pointed out lightly, clicking his tongue. He could actually manage most country and folk despite his jab. "Ring of Fire" was a classic by any stretch of the imagination. he tapped his fingers again, and caught the mention about the same time that the girl did.
And he nodded, looking at her for a moment before adjusting to play it. wasn't like it was all that hard, and he was already humming, figuring that she'd want to take lead vocals again. At least he could handle the fairly constant three chord strum that served as a baseline for most of the song. tedious, but still a little fun.

"I do though." She chuckled as her fingers stopped strumming for her to get to the suggestions people were giving. "Maybe we could do something together some time." The reply was tinted with a hint of flirtation despite her not actually looking at him.
"Nothing wrong with metal, just very hard to do with just us and two guitars." She responded before her smile widened at his confirmation.
She finally turned to him properly, hoisting the guitar higher up on her lap. "You wanna take the lead on this? I'll do the second part."
"Can think of a few things we can do together," Rob replied with that same teasing flirtatious tone in his voice. his eyes had that bit of spark to them too, that puckish mischief that meant a good deal. He flicked them at her for just a second, long enough to see she wasn't looking his way, then it was back to the music.
Back to her mentioning that they could probably handle metal with more instruments. Rob laughed at that, shaking his head slightly. He didn't think he could handle metal on his best day, but he didn't see any reason to tell her that. Play, perhaps, but he didn't have the voice for it. He did, however, have the voice for this. He didn't even need reminding or more of an intro cue before he started singing, his lilting voice seeming to slide around:
"When you're on a holiday You can't find the words to say All the things that come to you" his hand moving all the while, pulling that simple rhythm, getting ready to set things up for the girl to take over. It wasn't the hardest song he'd played by a long shot, but that didn't stop him from getting into the groove, showing that he was, quite obviously, an actual musician, if not one that people would regularly throw money at.

Addison chose to ignore his response, though a small smirk came to her lips before she dipped her head slightly. "Island in the Sun it is." She finally said as her fingers moved along the strings to the simple chords of the song.
When the guy started singing, her smirk turned into a smile. He had a really nice voice. Something that you could definitely listen to on a quiet rainy day.
A small approval sounded from her throat as she waited for her part to sing. The note she had to hit was one she always had trouble with in a big crowd but in that small contained space, she hit it quite well, complementing the guy's voice as well.
The crowd seemed to enjoy it, she even saw some of them swaying a little. Even the staff had joined in with some "Hip, hip."
Once the song was done, Addison took a bow as the crowd clapped. She placed the guitar in it's stand again and waved to the crowd. "You've been such an excellent crowd." She bowed again, though comically this time before she turned to the guy. "I should probably go."
Rob handled the singing easily enough, though he forgot the words to a bit of it, having to hum along for a few seconds. Wasn't exactly much Weezer being played where he normally hung out. Fortunately the girl came in at just the right time and it proved much easier to sing along with someone. It seemed like she probably had more power to her voice than he, but he could certainly pour emotion and sing along with her without being drowned out.
Soon enough the crowd, or enough of them, started getting into it. Rob bobbed his head, feeling the positive energy in the room and using it to his advantage. At times like this he almost felt like his mutant power was to absorb all the good vibes in a room instead of turning them into something more literal. The song ended though, and the girl was bowing. Rob gestured toward her before nodding himself. She'd put up the guitar and he followed suit, mostly figuring that the patience of the staff had finally hit its limits.
"Most excellent," Rob repeated, nodding and raising a hand. "Though you all definitely need to broaden your musical horizons," he gave them another wink before looking to the girl, his brows raising. "Fraid to give out autographs luv? Or more scared that they're going to call for an encore?" he gave her another wink at that latter. "I suppose I could tag along to fend off your rabid fans if you're truly nervous. Had to leave a bird in distress and all."

Adjusting her hair just to have her hands so something while she waited for the guy to walk over to her, she chuckled before shaking her head. "Hardly. Not the type of crowd to ask for them, I reckon." She shrugged before raising an eyebrow.
"You offering to become my very own Kevin Costner?" She asked with a smirk. Her tongue darted out as it drew across her bottom lip.
She adjusted her bag strap and shifted her weight from one foot to another. "Wanna make like a tree and leave?" Addison asked with a tilt of her head.
"Never know till you find out," Rob replied. He already knew the it to be nearly nonsense, but if anything that just made his grin widen all the further, the wink all the more jaunty. Both faded into something of a wince as the girl continued, offering him a chance of being her "Kevin Costner."
"Is that something people actually want to be?" he had to ask, raising a brow. He watched her adjust things, shifting weight, and again had to wince when she spoke, though this time for different reasons. "Really? You're barking up the wrong tree there: it's leaf, m'nymph,' he replied, reaching out to tap her on the nose. "Should learn to branch out too: been rooted to this small town too long. Best to fan your leaves and head for someone else. I hear the grass is greener."
Another jaunty wink, and this time Rob crooked out an arm, offering it to the young lady who was likely laid low with his horrible puns.
