Cara Elise Blanchard
FACE CLAIM: Shailene Woodley
---------------------------------
AGE: Sixteen
BIRTHDAY: Feburary 20th 1999
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual but a little bi-curious
POSITION: Student
POWER: Kinetic absorption
Ability to absorb forms of kinetic energy into oneself and use it in various ways, gaining some form of advantage, either by enhancing themselves, converting it to physical strenght, gaining the drained power, using it as power source, create power energy blasts etc., either temporarily or permanently.
Cara's mutant power is an ability to absorb the kinetic energy generated by an external force or impact without harm to herself. The absorbed energy can be used to augment her strength, speed, stamina and healing to superhuman levels. She can potentially absorb the energy of almost any impact she is struck by, not just direct physical blows, but also bullets and throwing weapons, and concussive energy beams. At the moment, Cara can absorb as much as a slow moving car (about 35-40 km/h). A truck hitting her at a highway could potentially kill her. Bullets would be fatal and too much for her to absorb. She would be able to absorb some power, but the kinetic energy would be too much for her to take in, and she could be seriously injured or potentially killed. However, Cara's ability to store all this energy is limited. Once she absorbs the energy she has to use it within two hours or her body will suffer greatly from it. If the energy is stored for too long she might experience sore muscles, sluggishness and painful headaches. Cara is currently able to enhance her body to a small degree, but with limitations (see below). She can be struck by foes without being injured (due to absorbing the punch), deliver powerful counter punches, she might be able to react to things faster and her healing factor can be accelerated to double the normal rate. By absorbing successive blows from an opponent, Cara might be able to overpower them. The greater energy stored, the greater her abilities are. However, with this there is also a limit. She cannot absorb infinite amount of energy, she has a limit to how much energy she can absorb at the time. She can loose consciousness if she surpasses her capabilities, and when awake would suffer from the same things as when she has stored energy for too long. Without any absorbed energy, Cara is merely a strong, athletic human in excellent physical condition. She regularly works to keep her strength up press the limit of how long she can store her energy.
LIMITATIONS:
- The most kinetic energy Cara can take in one go is a slow moving car (about 35-40 km/h).
- She can not store energy for longer than two hours.
- There is a limit to how much energy she can store at the time.
- When absorbing energy her reactions are about 50% faster than normal, she can work out 30 min at max intensity longer than normal, her healing factor can be accelerate to the double of normal rate, and she can be strong enough to punch through a brick wall.
- Cara is little control over how much energy is realized each time she uses it, so she still has to work on how to use the properly use the potential energy. She's working on how to control it.
- In theory, as long as Cara has absorbed energy she can continue with her enhanced body, for example in battle she can deliver powerful blows, while absorbing the opponents punches. However, this constant give and take of energy can take its toll on her, and after about 30 min of intense use of this, she will experience sluggishness, sore muscles and overall exhaustion.
- Cara can only absorb kinetic energy, meaning that telepathic attacks, pheromone manipulation etc will work against her.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- If she stores energy longer than two hours she might experience sore muscles, sluggishness and painful headaches.
- If she exceeds the limit on how much energy she can store she can lose consciousness, and will suffer from sore muscles, sluggishness and painful headaches when she wakes up.
- Her limit on how long she can actively and intensely use her powers off and on is about 30 minutes, after this she will experience sluggishness, sore muscles and overall exhaustion.
- The most common side effect that she has from overall use of this power is an overall sluggishness and sore muscles. Usually after a day of training and testing her powers, a good night of 9 hours of sleep will help.
HEIGHT: She's fairly tall for a girl her age. Standing at 172cm she's gotten her height from her father's side of the family.
HAIR COLOR: Light brown, just like her father.
EYE COLOR: Hazel green, which neither of her parents had. She's got the same shape and look to them as her mother though.
MISC: Cara is a tall, fairly attractive girl with a sort of roughness to her expression. Even with her short hair, she looks attractice in a sort of tomboyish, yet feminine way. She has a devious glimmer in her eyes, despite their usual stoic expression. Her eyes are NOT the window to her soul, as it is more or less impossible to tell what she's thinking about (unless you're a telepath of course). She has a well developed body. She has a rather natural thin, yet very athletic build. She looks healthy, and strong. She keeps her body in top physical condition by exercising regularly. She has a scar on the left side of her lower abdomen from the time she had an inflamed appendix and had it removed. Aside from that one scar, her body has the regular amounts of scars on knees and elbows from when she was a kid. However, she also has found a love for tattoos, and she has several. She has three minimalistic arrows on her right inner forearm, a large feather on her left upper arm, a flock of small birds taking flight across her upper back from shoulder to shoulder, a small Tolkien tree on her left wrist, a small black and red swallow on her right wrist, and the words "limitless" on her right ribcage right under her boob. She also has two piercings in each earlobe and one in her right cartilage outer ear.
As for her style, Cara likes to keep things simple. She likes dark colors like black, navy blue, grey and dark red, but she also likes light grey, light blue and white. She likes to keep her style clean and chic. She usually wears black or dark blue jeans, loose t-shirts with a one colored cardigan or a shirt. The only crazy colors she'll use is the occasional plaided shirts (and for some reason hot pink or grey underwear) and sportswear. She likes Dr. Martin shoes or Converse. As for jewelry she likes silver. Simple and small bracelets and necklaces, but she can have chunky rings. She loves rings! It's her girly guilty pleasure.

PERSONALITY:
As a child Cara was adventurous, playful and charming. She was happy, unafraid, daring and yet still polite. She seemed to have a way with people, and a way to get away with her mischievous ways. She has changed a little from when she was a naïve little child, but some traits have remained.
BRAVE
Be it daring, brave, unafraid, fearless, bold, Cara is all of these things and more. Her mother often described her as “my little, fearless adventurer” due to her bold nature in confronting things and speaking her mind. There is little that can shock her, and very little that scares her. At least, she keeps that front up. As all humans she has flaws, and her bravery is both a way for her to cope as well as a shield to protect her from emotional damage. As a child she was naively brave, but as a teenager she had come to use her bravery as a shield in order to protect herself from the trauma in her life. Being brave and bold is easier and more her style than being emotionally unstable and whiney.
OUTSPOKEN
Cara has always been extremely outspoken. She is daring and unafraid of her opinions, and her emotions often take over and she can be rather blunt. She is often cruelly frank with those she is closest to, especially her family. After the trauma in her life her outspokenness has blended in with sarcasm, and her remarks can be downright hurtful.
INTELLIGENT
Cara is not one to flaunt her intellect, but she is extremely clever. She is rational and pragmatic, and very good at solving problems. She is both bookish smart and practically smart. She loves to read and write, and to discuss. She is semi aware of her intellect, but mostly uses it when she is blunt or sarcastic.
SARDONIC
Cara uses sarcasm and cynicism to deal with the world around her, making her appear highly sardonic. Although she is kind and sweet at heart she is quick to turn to her sarcastic ways than to deal with the reality around her. She is grim and a bit of a pessimist when looking at the future, and she often has a morbid sense of humour.
At first glance Cara is a pretty, sweet and sardonic teenager. Once you get to know her you can see that behind the sarcasm and outspokenness there is a kind and loving girl with a lot of affection to give. She is fiercely loyal and protective of those she deems close to her, but once betrayed it is hard to earn her trust back. She can hold a grudge like no other. Like most teenagers she can be viewed as a bit of her rebel against her parents with her sarcasm and bold replies. Her sharp tongue can be hurtful and her intellect can sometimes make her appear arrogant, however, this is all a façade. Underneath all the grim sarcasm, fearlessness and fierce words there is a girl struggling to deal with the world around her. She is often isolating herself from everyone, and deep down she is struggling with clinical depression. Her mood is often swinging and the strangest things can set her off. Despite what she says and how she acts in front of people she has extremely bad self-esteem and has often thought of self harming herself to cope with her reality.
SECRET(S):
- Cara was supposed to have a little brother, but he was still born. Cara never talks about this part of her past, and frankly, she doesn't want to talk to anyone about it.
- Cara is also depressed, sometimes manic depressive. She is angry and deals with everything internally, or, she doesn't really deal with anything, she just bleeds on the inside.
- One of the ways she tries to cope is to sneak out and have arranged street fights to let of steam. She's very hardcore and doesn't talk about her emotions. No one knows that she sneaks out to fight at night, and she'd probably be punished, or worse, kicked out of school, if someone found out.
SKILLS:
- Kickboxing: Cara has been practicing kickboxing since she was a little girl, and she's gotten quite good at it. She's actually skilled enough that she could take down a man twice her size.
- Cara used to have extremely long hair, and during that time she learnt how to make all and every kind of braid possible. Looking at her now and her tomboyish appearance one might not think so, but Cara is one major hair-braiding-guru.
FATHER: Robert Blanchard
MOTHER: Sabine Blanchard neé Poulain
SIBLINGS: Matteo Blanchard - deceased
WORTHY MENTIONS: Cara has always had a pretty good relationship with both her parents, although she has always been particularly close to her mother. She used to take long walks with her mother as a child, and loved to come visit her father at work. However, her father’s adultery and the aftermath of the drama in her family have changed the dynamic. Her father’s adultery resulted in her having close to no respect for him and she is not afraid to voice her resentment towards him whenever the satiation is present. Cara thinks her mother is weak for staying with her father and has shown resentment towards her as well, however, Cara has a soft spot for her mother and remains close to her.
As for extended family, Cara hardly knows her French family, even though she speaks French. She visits them in the summer, and is closest with her grandmother, Celine Poulain. Cara was also close with her sensei, Saturo Higashi.
CHILDHOOD: Robert and Sabine met while Robert was studying abroad in Paris. She was studying art and he was a doctor intern. The two fell quickly and madly in love with each other and married. They moved to the outskirts of Seattle, where Robert was from, and formed a life there. Sabine thrived in the attics community while Robert became a good surgeon. After about two years they became pregnant and little Cara screamed her away into the world on a cold and windy February night. She was their precious light. However, the pregnancy had made Sabine sick and fickle, and she needed time to recover. Her art had to be deprioritized and Sabine became a full-time stay-at-home mom. She became involved in her neighbourhood and the community. She organized charities and fundraising for local problems.
Cara was a stubborn and brave child. She was always extremely curious and unafraid of everything. “Fearless” her mother would say. It was perhaps this fearlessness that lead Cara into the world of martial arts. She started kickboxing when she was six years old, and she quickly found a passion for it. Her sensei was an middle aged Japanese man named Saturo Higashi. She respected and looked up to him. Cara’s childhood was good and filled with many good memories. Cara used to take long walks with her mother, and when she was older they would go shopping in town together. Cara loved to surprise visit her father at work with her mother. He would always take the time to eat something with them at the bakery when they did visit him. It was good times. During the summer the family would travel to France to visit family.
ADOLESCENCE: When Cara was fourteen, something tragic struck the family. Her mother had become pregnant again and was thrilled. She and Robert had always wanted a big family, but conceiving was hard for them. Finally, a miracle happened. However, the baby died in the womb shortly before birth, and Sabine had to give birth to a stillborn. There was an intimate baby funeral for the boy who should have been. They even named him. Matteo. Things were never quite the same after that. Cara’s parents drifted apart and Cara started showing signs of being more isolated. She was slowly starting to become depressed, but her parents never noticed. They only saw her constant sarcasm and isolation as her constant fearlessness and braveness. The only place Cara ever felt at home was when she was in the ring, fighting.
In the wake of the tragedy, her parents’ withdrawal from each other caused her father to have an affair with a younger intern at the hospital. This affair lasted for about a year when he was found out. In a desperate attempt at mending things, Sabine had taken Cara (age 15) bit early out of school for the weekend, and the two women had a pit stop at home before planning to head out. The two walked to the front door and entered the house, only to see her father and a young intern in a compromising position on the kitchen table. Cara witnessed as her mother raged around in the room as her father, covering himself with a hand towel, begged for her forgiveness. Cara stormed out of the house, her parents yelling after her, and she ran into the street. Tears blurred her vision so she did not see the car that came towards her. However, the car did not hit her, instead Cara's mutant powers manifested and she absorbed the impact. Shocked by this she ran as fast as she could, which was suddenly faster than she had ever run, to the only place she felt at home. The kickboxing center. At the center she started working out, and still charged with the energy she has absorbed, she beat a punching bag into nothing with her bare hands, and without a single injury.
There was a lot for Cara to process during that following week. She wasn't quite sure what she had discovered about herself, and at the same time she was struggling with her family. Her father wanted them to go to family therapy. Her mother didn't want to see him at all. Cara wanted to escape, and she did, deep into herself and kickboxing. She found herself absorbing opponent energy, and kicking them harder than she ever had before. She felt unstoppable. It was not long after that someone came to their house and sought her out. Apparently, she was a mutant, and they wanted her to attend a school for people like her. Her mother cried and begged her to stay, but for Cara, it was the best news she had ever had. She couldn't wait to escape the hell hole that was her family life.
Cara came to Bellefonte Academy in early February right before her sixteenth birthday. February 20th. She has been about four months at the school. She has made few friends but continues with her kickboxing. She is bad mouthed and difficult to control, and her powers have stabilized. She practices every day, and often pushes herself too far. During June she had to switch dormitories because she made another girl cry.
ADULTHOOD: ---
SAMPLE: Her enthralling brown eyes took in the sight of Verrell Chevalier, the slightly older Slytherin boy she had met so very many times before. He was seldom the main tormenter of her troubles, but he was seldom very far behind, hissing this or that insult her way. She loathed him! She did! She despised everything he stood for, everything he did to her, all that he made her feel. She did not understand him, or his motives, or why he did what he did, and she certainly did not understand how he could affect her so!
Images of their last encounter were left printed on her mind. Recalling it was only too easy. It was not so long ago that their encounter had been much intimate than it was in this exact moment. She could almost feel her pulse quickening just by thinking of it. How could she have been so blind? Intoxicated by alcohol and freedom she had not recognized his scent, and so, the two had met under strange circumstances that had led them out of the room, away from the pulsating dance floor and the large crowd of people dancing as blood in veins. Wrapped in each other’s arms Jessica had lost herself to the moment, given in to her passions and her desires, forgotten about caution and care. She had lived! Oh, how she had lived, and what a life, what a feeling that had been. And then, the bubble had burst. The disguises had been torn off, and pushing her against the wall had been Verrell, the man she so despised.
Jessica stood frozen, her blood boiling. She was trapped! The wolf inside her sneered and coiled. It did not like to be cornered like this. If she went back out there she might be tackled by her pervious tormentors, but if she stayed in her she might have to face whatever demon Verrell might choose to unleash on her, although her looked rather idle at the moment. No, she could not relax or let her guard down. If it came down to a fight she had to stand her ground! The wound to her head would have to wait, even though the blood was dripping down her temple and onto her cheek.
The brunette eyed him icily and took a whiff of the air, having been holding her breath for quite some time. She could smell him from this distance and Jessica was shocked to discovered that the wolf inside her growled with both desire and hostility. She listened to his words, her body not at all less tense by listening to him telling her how they had to accept each other’s existence. “I’d rather wrestle a hippogriff,” she muttered under her breath, unable to keep the words silent. She did not care whether or not he had heard her. She stood silent, her back towards the door, the wand still clutched tight in her hand with her eyes never leaving his stretched out figure.
