Elspeth Caetlyn Emmy (Hestas)
FACE CLAIM: Laura Marano
---------------------------------
AGE: fifteen
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Unsure
POSITION: Student
POWER: Poison Generation/ Immunity
Elspeth’s power comes in to parts Poison generation and Poison Immunity. Much like a Poisonous frogs, Elspeth pore’s are able to secrete a mix of two toxins ranging from mild to incredibly harmful. Due to an extra organ (kinda like a poison sac) surrounded by both voluntary moving and involuntary moving muscles she is able to create and secrete these chemicals through her pores. This poison sac pumps this poison through to all the pore in her body both on command and accidentally. The extra organ also pumps and an Antitoxin, which brings us to her next power which is a very generalized considering it only makes her immune to the toxin she makes her in body. Because her “Poison sac” pumps the toxins to her skin and through her bloodstream to keep her alive, and her organs from failing her extra organ also pumps out an an antitoxin without her knowing it.
The two toxins her body produces will either put a person to sleep, like a sticky wet version of knockout gas or paralyze all inner organ workings and have the potential to kill someone should they not get the antitoxin in time. At the moment, the toxins aren’t incredibly strong but they have the potential to keep the body shut down or asleep for up to thirty minutes. At the moment it’s only like five or six minutes. She will eventually be able to control the amount of a certain toxin that is secreted from her pores at the moment it kind of just rushes out and she’s can't stop it. Which is why she wears long sleeves and bandages to soak up the toxins.
She will also eventually be able to secrete the antitoxin at will though her body will always pump it through her system 24/7 to keep her body from killing herself. Although she will eventually be able to gain somewhat control over her power, it’s unlikely that she’ll gain complete control. While the Antitoxin is always pumping through her body, the poison sac can only generate enough poison to actually poison at least four times for each toxin in the span of two to three hours, though at the moment she can only really get enough to poison two times. This doesn't account for the fact that she might over poison, pushing out to much toxin and then it's only one every three to five hours.
LIMITATIONS:
She only produces Two Posions, A sleep inducing Toxin, and Paralysis toxin.
At the moment she can only posion about one to two times for each type of toxin she produces, and then has to recharge three to five hours before she can poison again.
The less amount of toxins absorb the less likely it is for them to be effect, prolong exposure to small amount of her toxins makes helps any victims develop immunity.
She must keep contact long enough for the toxin to seep through the pores, which could take anywhere from five minutes, to ten depending on the amount of toxin she’s secreting. In extreme cases of fear, stress or danger her power will work in two minutes though it causes her to become ill and pass out. In instances of great danger, her body produces more of the sleeping poison than paralysis - usually in great danger her body will only produce one poison at a time, and normally this is the sleeping one.
Since her body produce one antitoxin for both toxins combine, one a victim is given her antitoxin they become immune to both toxins even if she only used one.
She can’t at the moment control how toxin comes out but it’s anyway from 20ml to 100ml at the moment it’s somewhere around 30ml constantly with it increasing when she feels extreme amounts of fear or anger. or decreasing when she’s relaxed or asleep.
Although she can produce an antitoxin since it’s a foreign chemical in her body, her normal immune system fights against it leaving her at risk for kidney failure and heart attacks
Her ability only works through skin-to-skin contact.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
incredibly thick skin, but the top layer is always peeling because of toxins
Her skin peels, at least twice a week she has to use a special kind of moisturizer to keep her skin from drying out too much.
He muscles and bones are easier to fracture or sprain.
She has problems with people touching her
She’s allergic to most medicines since a lot of them mess with the chemical in her system.
really high Ph Level causing her blood to be way more acidic than is normal.
Mood disorder due to chemical imbalance
HEIGHT: 5’2
HAIR COLOR: Brown
EYE COLOR: Brown
MISC: Dermal piercings; one on each of her hips - just above her waist-line.
PERSONALITY:
Elspeth doesn't know how to show any emotion. She used to be full of joy and so pleased with herself when she did things to earn praise - and after the abuse, that one point in her personality heightened. Elspeth adores praise, and will do just about anything - no matter if it is right or wrong - to be praised. She will often be caught lying and saying what the other person wants to hear just to get praise.
She's easily manipulated, especially if praise is given to her. She acts tough, and never shows a soft side. She can often be found at night, crying in her bed - reliving the memories to the point she does not like to sleep, at least, not alone. Sleeping allows the memories to come back and haunt her...
Elspeth does not like to be mean, but she can be. She stands firmly against bullying and will often throw the first punch if someone bullies her.
She’s incredibly smart even though she is a bit gullible, she does well in school she’s loyal to fault. She’s also open minded, she doesn’t like judging people based on first impressions. She’s easily corruptible she’ll turn into the kind of people that she hangs around just so they’ll stick around.
While she does have the part of personality that is completely easy to give in, she’s also very stubborn. She doesn’t like to show weakness and she’ll do anything to keep people from finding them out. Often meaning that against her want for praise and friendship she’ll keep people at a distance. She’s independent by herself and enjoys solitude just as much as she enjoys company.
SECRET(S): She killed her mother, she’s incredibly impressionable and will change herself completely for the right person.
FATHER: Damion Hestas (dead) Franklin Rellis (coma - stepfather)
MOTHER: Anabethyl "Ann" Rellis (nee Coyt) (dead)
SIBLINGS: Clarissa Hanes, Brittany Hanes, and William Lee Rellis
WORTHY MENTIONS: N/A
CHILDHOOD: Elspeth was Conceived while her father was on Business in Australia - though he's originally from Scandinavia. His family owned shares of one of the oil companies in the country. The woman he, had accidently knocked up was a very money hungry but selfish young lady. Once she realized that she was pregnant she knew that it would interfere with the life she was trying to start.
When Elspeth was born, her mother promptly left her on her father's doorstep. Then she disappeared; not without trace, as she had signed her name on the birth certificate. Elspeth's birth caused her father to quit his playboy ways, and get serious about the business his father was trying to leave him. The great thing about having a baby was that sometimes it puts your life into focus, Damion got serious and they lived peacefully in Scandinavia.
When Elspeth was four, her father hired a piano teacher. She was a slow-learner, but eventually she made it into her own shows and little parties. She played quite well for a young child. At the age of nine she had her first concert. This concert took place in America - she had won a sweepstakes and been offered the chance to perform in Texas.
She loved seeing Texas, but after her concert was over, she went home with her father. She lived a pretty normal life, getting to travel when she wished for concerts or school as her father had money, a lot of money.
ADOLESCENCE: At the age of twelve, her father was diagnosed with brain cancer - it quickly took his life, leaving Elspeth an orphan. Her father had never married, he had no siblings and his parents were dead; her next of kin was her mother and her mother's husband. Her father's fortune was left solely to Elspeth, his attorney was in charge of it until she turned eighteen. The very same attorney was a very close friend to Damion and saw Elspeth as his own daughter. Having never met Elspeth's mother he thought it would be best for her to be raised by the woman. In essence, Elspeth had become a millionaire the second her father died.
Elspeth had not even known about her mother, but she was sent to Georgia, to live with her mother, her stepfather and her younger brother. Her mother and stepfather often fought as Elspeth was born after her mother and stepfather had met and started dating. She was born over her mother's year-long escapade around the world.
Her mother decided she only wanted the money, but Elspeth's father had thought of that in the event of his death - he made it an exclusive wish that he did not want that money in the hands of her mother. Only his attorney. Which meant that the attorney made frequent visits to the Georgia home to make sure she was being taken care of. He became Uncle Erik.
She was almost fourteen when it first started; the beatings. It was a year and half after she had come to live with them. Her mother had repeatedly tried to get Elspeth to draw out money from the trust fund (she had a set amount she could draw out once a month, an amount of one-thousand-dollars) over the course of the year, and when Elspeth refused to give her money to her mother after drawing it out, her mother and stepfather took turns beating her with a belt. They yelled at her, told her how unworthy she was, told her that she was worthless. In self defense her power manifested as a way to try and save her, however it had a very negative effect.
She produced far too much toxin. She was light-headed and woozy, but simply thought that was from her mother's hand hitting against her back over and over. Each time the woman laid that hand down, she was taking in more of the toxins, not to mention the hand that held Elspeth firmly in place.
Her mother's movements did begin to slow, but they did not stop. The woman was woozy, her vision blurring, but she simply thought she might be too hot, so she figured it would pass. Before too long the woman did stop, but she did not release her daughter. She pulled Elspeth into her lap and held her as she tried to get her head to stop spinning. For a while, Elspeth did not realize her mother was no longer conscious - if she had, she would have gotten up, and there may have been the chance of saving her. By the time Elspeth realized something was majorly wrong with her mother, the woman had no pulse.
Her stepfather was already enraged when he came home - money was tight, and he had a rich little brat living under his roof who would not take out a single dime to 'help the family', as he thought of it. He found Elspeth shaking her mother, and shoved her aside to do the exact same thing and shake his wife, shouting her name.
Eventually the bad-tempered man turned on Elspeth and began hitting - jerking her against him and holding her still as he shouted and yelled at the girl. Her stepfather had scared her, and soon he was experiencing the symptoms his wife had experienced, but not so serverely, as when he lost his footing and fell to the ground - Elspeth ran for the door. She'd not killed her stepfather, perhaps if he had not hit his head so hard against the side of the living room table and then the floor, he would have woken up.
She fled, leaving her younger brother (who was about eight), there with the bodies. Calling Erik, in a panic from a pay phone down the road he came and picked her up. She told him what happened and after revealing that he was a mutant also contacted the proper authorities and she was taken to the school.
Due the trauma and the spontaneity of her power she was kept in isolation for a year as she got therapy and a small handle on her power. At least until she stopped accidentally poisoning everybody who touched her skin or bumped into her.
While in isolation at Bellefonte Academy, her only true contact was her guardian - Erik, therapists and doctors and tutors to keep her up to date on her schooling. When she first entered isolation, she was compliant but would not let anyone touch her bare skin.
Around four months into isolation, Elspeth was slowly being introduced to other students. She was being taken out for walks, convinced to wear clothes that showed skin, to interact. At first it was hard for her to even be near other people with bare skin visible.
By the sixth month they thought she was safe enough to be released into the school society, only to have her suffer a breakdown when she bumped into another student. She was sedated and quickly returned to her isolated ways.
Isolation seems to be what Elspeth felt safe with, so the therapists and the other adults in her life made it a goal to have her in the general population by the time she turned fifteen.
When she turned fifteen, she was most comfortable wearing clothes that left no skin to be seen. Though this was still a goal for them, to get her comfortable showing skin and being touched, they deemed her safe. She was no longer a risk.
She started normal classes with other students, meeting regularly with her therapists and having regular evaluations done. She cannot say that she hates school, because she has never really gone to Bellefonte outside of the isolated ward she lived in. But she can say that she fears herself, her ability, but she is willing to work with her 'people' to get past these fears.
