There were a few pros when it came to being apart of the Security Staff, even if she was still interning. Vera found herself sticking her nose into files of students that she felt could possibly fit right in with the rest of the Security Squad. While her and Roxana hadn't done any recent recruiting for the Squad, that didn't mean that Vera didn't watch closely to those who would do it justice. She was sure Roxana always had her eyes open anyway, the girl always did. So it wasn't like the two of them were really ignoring that they still had to keep the Squad together and prepared for just about anything that may happen.

Vera just hoped nothing would happen.

She had also seen the girl around. This was Bellefonte, people talked and noticed things all the time. They were the same age, though Vera always managed to look more mature for her age... they were still the same age. They seemed to have familiar qualities, that Vera had no idea what that meant, but she figured she'd want to see for herself. So she shot the girl an innocent email, just to see if she'd agree for a friendly spar. Nothing too serious or drastic, just to see how it would go but in the back of her mind, Vera really wanted to check out if the girl was Security Squad material and then in due time, when Roxana agreed that they needed to do recruiting. She'd offer it to Selina and see where that went.

As for now, just a friendly spar.

Vera currently waited in the training room after finishing her workout. She sat on the ground with her phone currently as her main distraction and water bottle going to her lips and back on the ground every so few minutes.

    Selina had been surprised to get an email from the woman in charge of the martial arts club asking for a spar. She'd smiled as she’d read it, not objecting to the idea in the slightest. The email had surprised her more than anything else, as she wasn’t sure if this would be something entirely different from a usual club meeting or just more practice or what. She was always interested in seeing how her skills measured up to others though, particularly since Vera was someone whose skills Selina held a healthy respect for.


    Selina made her way to the training room in her typical loose pants and a tight tank top, with her duffle bag over her shoulder. It contained her water bottle, a change of clothes, and toiletries for showering afterward as well as a pack of cigarettes… even though Selina didn’t smoke. Her mother had left them behind and Selina routinely forgot to remove them from her bag.


    “Hello, Vera. Sorry if I’m a bit late,” she offered as she approached with a smile. She knew Vera was in a relationship, but the woman’s beauty still stole her breath away every time Selina saw her. Selina almost wished she’d met Vera sooner… but there was no use thinking about what could have been. Besides, she was grateful to be able to practice with Vera regardless.


    Selina almost felt nervous about being here though, which was unusual for her. Then again, there were few people that she actually respected in this school, and even fewer that she genuinely wanted to… not cause trouble for? There was some part of Selina that wanted to do well here, and it was slightly more than what her usual perfectionistic nature demanded from her.

When she heard Selina approach, Vera glanced up from her phone to offer her a smile. So she finally arrived, yeah? "Dont worry about it. I was just looking at vines." She had just been done with laughing at a few of them and if she had the time, she probably would have made her own vines. Because truth be told, Vera knew she was a funny girl. The telekinetic slid her phone on the ground and off to the side before standing up to greet Selina. "One of my old trainers here, total military hunk, would always give me lip for even being a second late. So trust me, I understand."

Vera reached a hand out towards Selina for a shake, "I really appreciate your willingness to spar today. I'm sure you probably had other things to take care of." She offered her a smile. "It's not every day I get to spar with someone so beautiful." She shrugged with a chuckle, "Mostly sweaty guys with big egos, you know." As well as Roxana, but Rox didn't necessarily count. They were kind of like partners in a way, while the girl was hot, there was that boundary that the both never really did cross.

That and Vera had hated her at first.

She moved towards the center of the room, looking around at their environment. "Also before we get started, I kind of have an offer, if you're willing to think about it - of course."

    Selina grinned and nodded, “Anything caught your particular interest?” she asked with a laugh. She didn’t watch too many vines, but the ones she did almost always made her giggle. Selina understood completely Vera completely when it came to punctuality, “Aye, my old teacher wouldn’t even let me practice if I was late. She just said that if I had wanted to train, then I would have shown up on time. I could tell her about missed buses and traffic delays all I wanted, but she’d just ignore me, so I always ended up arriving over thirty minutes earlier than I had to.”


    Selina shook Vera’s hand and smiled, “Not really, to be honest. Besides, I almost never pass up the chance to spar if I can help it,” she added sincerely. The physicality of pitting herself against someone else with skill was thrilling and it helped to clear her head. Aikido was one of the most calming things that Selina had experience with, and it often helped to reduce her stress in ways that meditation just didn’t. Selina smirked at Vera’s compliment, “Neither do I. And though sometimes sweaty guys can be fun, the ego part is always more trouble than its worth,” she added with a knowing smile.


    Selina followed Vera after she placed her duffle bag off to the side. Her head tilted slightly to the side as Selina studied the beauty in curiosity, “Sure. What did you have in mind?” she asked as she put her hair up in a tighter ponytail.

"Eh," She slightly shrugged, "Just a whole bunch of silly shit here and there." Of course, there were a few viners who she favorited based on how many times they made her laugh a day, but she hadn't seen anything super funny as of that moment. Vera chuckled, "I guess that's one way to teach someone how to be on time. You're lucky, I sorta wish that's how my training went. He just went super hard on me for each minute I was late. I probably would've killed to switch spots with you." Some parts of her missed Joe, and the other didn't miss the hard training one bit. If anything, it taught her to never go easy on herself.

"Good," She smirked, almost sure that she was going to love Selina right off the bat. There weren't many girls who appreciated a good spar and the ones she could actually tolerate, she always wanted to get to know better. Even if that meant a few fist would be flying her way. "Yeah, tons of fun. Something I could do without." Selina was right, dealing with egos were way more trouble than it was worth.

Vera crossed her arms as her hazel eyes watched Selina fix her hair. "You may or may not know about the Security Squad, it's a group of students chosen to help make the academy feel... safer. Basically those who would be able to help defend the school if shit was to ever go down." She then pressed her lips together at the thoughts of when SPECTRE attacked, "Students who we'd feel are trainable, team orientated, can listen to others, and could handle themselves in extreme situations." She gestured towards Selina, "And of course, I felt you would be perfect. I even had to tell Roxana, which you probably already had the pleasure of speaking with."

    Selina grinned, “Seems to be the way they work,” she agreed. Selina wasted her time on other things, mostly physical in nature, but sometimes she’d get caught up in the wonder of the internet for a few hours or so.


    “Oh, she punished me well enough the next time I showed up. Had to work double time for the time that we lost, she claimed. I think she just enjoyed torturing me,” Selina admitted with a grimace. Never again. That was one thing about Santiago she was very happy to leave behind. She’d respected the woman and learned an incredible amount from her, but some of her policies and ways of teaching had driven Selina to the edge multiple times.


    Selina eyed Vera in interest, “Shit going down? What exactly do you mean by that?” she asked warily. By Vera's expression, it didn't appear to be anything good. “I mean, thank you for the offer. I feel honored you both considered me, but I’m going to need a bit more to go on,” she admitted. She didn’t want to be getting in any further over her head than she already was. There were already too many things that she was a part of that she had very little control over, and she wasn’t entirely sure she wanted to be part of another.

    “And can I ask about hours? As much as I like to stay up late, I also have to keep up my grades,” she added with a shrug. She didn’t mind it occasionally, but it wasn’t something she could do every night either. Besides, Selina needed time to herself every once in a while too… even if it was occasionally spent with someone else.

"Ouch." Wincing, knowing all too well how it felt to work double time, especially when you either messed up or showed up late way too many times. Vera chuckled, "I think they all enjoy torturing their students. Heck, I think I would be too if I could."

Of course Selina would have questions, which Vera expected. Vera hadn't been the most detailed person, which she was still working on. "Okay, so basically we have Security Staff, which me and Roxana are currently interning for. Those who deal with the safety and security of the whole academy 24/7." She put a hand in the air as if making a place holding for where the security staff would be on a chart.

Vera then moved her hand a step down, below where the imaginary image of the Security Staff would've been. "Then there's the Security Squad. Which makes up students who have the offensive and defensive abilities and/or combat experience to make the squad. A group who is trained to know how to work as a team and under extreme circumstances. Being apart of the Squad will not conflict with any classes or studying hours you have going on. Nor is it some hourly position you have to keep up with. We'll have training days that work with everyone's schedules."

She wanted to make sure Selina understood that being apart of the Squad would not interfere with anything she had going on for herself, so she continued. "It's a team. When SPECTRE attacked us last year, I was apart of the Squad, as was Rox and a few others. We were split up to group with other staff members to not only get back the mutants they kidnapped but also to distract SPECTRE so that we could rescue our friends and also defend the Academy when they managed to plan a sneak attack." Vera rubbed the back of her neck as she rolled her eyes at the slight thought of SPECTRE. "The only issue was that we weren't prepared for something as big as that. We lost people and it kind of hit us harder than we thought it would; Emotionally and physically."

Taking a deep breath she glanced around the room before looking back to Selina. Glad that the history of the team didn't go further. It was still fairly new compared to all of the other school organizations. "Then came the huge fire during IMAC, which we handled better than we thought we would. Look, we're not asking anyone to jump at the chance of possibly putting their life on the line. But Rox and I are committed to making sure that our squads will be trained to work as a team and the other Security Staff if need be and be prepared for anything that were to happen."

Vera shrugged with an uneasy smile, "Plus the new training outfits are kinda hot."
