ALISTAIR, BENEDIKTE, MAGNUSSEN
67//MALE//PANSEXUAL//BERSERKER//RECRUITER//CHARLIE HUNNAM
POWER INFO: His mutation is a complicated one, far more than its classification lets on. His body is preternaturally suited to the rigors and exhaustion of combat. Much like the berserkers of legend, when sufficiently worked up or agitated, Alistair falls into a trance that is fueled by unbridled rage. Unlike many who exhibit such traits, Alistair is often the one to work himself into such a frenzy, versus being goaded into it or being forced by an overload of emotional stimulation. In fully succumbing to the nature of mutation, he exerts a greater degree of control than one would who fights against it. While the urge is often felt as a burning sensation just beneath his skin, he has learned to refine in into a weapon versus that of a curse. Greatly reflecting the ancient berserkers of old, who used it as a combat tactic.
As stated before, there is far more to this ability than meets the eye. With several abilities that help him retain his strength even in dire circumstances, the deeper he falls into the trance, the more his body begins to resemble the visceral nature let loose. The full range of this mutation is listed below:
Primal Trance: (active) There are certain levels of the trance, commonly only the first is seen, as it allows Alistair retain the most control. In this state, his physical attributes and senses are greatly heightened far past the levels of an average human. The more he works himself up, the more adrenaline and rage, the deeper into the trance he goes and thus the more powerful he becomes. The trance itself is accompanied by a physical transformation as well (detailed later.) The deeper the state of trance, the more it reflects upon him visually. There are four distinct tiers, each with their own gains, losses, and physical affects that define them.
Tier 2: This stage is where the beast truly begins to show his fangs. Alistair’s control over his metal facilities lessens, becoming more of a slave to his urges. While intelligence remains, his actions are largely dictated by survival instinct and gut reactions versus logic and strategy. At this level his attributes take on grossly preternatural levels. ( Three times the levels of peak. Speed and agility remain at twice the normal limits of peak.)
Tier 3: At this point he has all but lost control. A very basic intelligence remains, but he is largely predatory in nature. His attributes remain largely the same as they were in the second tier of his trance, but his healing factor is greatly heightened. Most wounds heal almost as quickly as they are afflicted. His senses are greatly heightened. ( Abilities remain at three times peak / two times peak for speed and agility. )
Tier 4: Absolute bloodlust. His body works on muscle memory more than it does raw intelligence. The mentality of an apex predator is all that remains. Everyone and anything in his path that moves is a target. With the extreme physicality that comes with being this deep in the trance, the trade-off is a loss of complete control. Any remnants of his personality are gone, only the rage and a lust for violence and chaos remain. While most of his attributes are pushed even further, his speed and agility are greatly lowered due to his size. (Abilities increase to four point three times peak, while speed lowers to one point five times peak.)[/font][/ul]
Transmogrification: (active) While subtle, Alistair's anatomy is built towards the predatory nature of his 'evolution.' His canines are far more pronounced than, and his teeth have a slightly more carnivorous appearance. His nails are far thicker than normal, and naturally pointed (he does sharpen them.) The deeper into his trance he goes, the more his body reflects his nature. With the first tier, his already noticeable physical alterations become more prominent. His jaw becomes more pronounced, his teeth and nails extend in length. Very simple, but noticeable changes. The second tier is when the real changes begin. His body becomes more dense as his muscle mass increases ( by twenty-five percent,) and thus height increases as well (by two inches.)
Third tier his form remains largely the same as the second tier, his limbs do elongate very slightly. Adding another two inches of height, and spreading out his mass. The fourth level, however, his body mass increases an additional twenty-five percent. The size reduces his speed, but gives him a massive boost when it comes to strength and durability.
Regenerative Healing Factor: (passive) His body is constantly regenerating lost or damaged cells and tissues. Berserkers were often known to ignore any and all ailments that afflicted them on the battlefield. While historically this has been linked with various herbs, his mutation seems to present a different theory all together. This ability is attributed with his look of continued youth, seeing as he looks to only be a man in his late thirties, when in all actuality he is near seventy. Most minor wounds and bruises heal within a matter of moments, making him a physical juggernaut when it comes to combat. He can shrug off most harm in a matter of moments, pushing past it as though he feels no pain, leading to a certain level of pain suppression.
While he is capable of healing from even mortal injuries, he cannot regenerate lost organs or limbs. If more than fifty percent of the organ remain, regeneration is possible. This process is very painful, often requiring a near comatose state for several days. When it comes to limbs, reattachment is possible (only within minutes of the initial loss.) This is quite painful. The cleaner the separation, the quicker the reattachment. Much like the regeneration of an organ, this will put him into a near comatose state (this state usually lasts several minutes, depending on the limb.) He cannot reattach his brain, or his spinal cord. While regeneration is possible, it is extremely painful. Needless to say, severing his head or severe central nervous system damage will kill him.
Damage done to his brain, or spinal cord, instantly places him into a comatose state (this lasts for a minimum of two weeks. Fifty percent of his brain must remain for the possibility of regeneration.)
Limitations:
- He cannot simply fall into a trance at the drop of the hat. Even for the first tier, he needs to sufficiently work himself up. Instantaneous transformations can happen during moments of extreme stress, or uncontrolled emotions. Alistair’s hypervigilance helps prevent such things from occurring. He often accesses his trance by choice, which is far more difficult, and is something he has tempered for decades. The initial trance is the hardest to obtain in a controlled manner (as his once the ball starts rolling, it doesn’t want to stop.) That being said, while he can maintain a certain degree of levelheadedness in this form, it is difficult to remain in it for extended periods of time without slipping deeper into his trance.
- While he is quite capable of managing his emotions, the surest way to initiate a primal trance is through pain. Severe physical or emotional pain automatically triggers his evolutionary abilities as a drastic form of self defense. On these occasions he slips straight into the third tier to, bypassing the first and second completely and goes into a complete berserker rage.
- When it comes to the rate which his abilities are rank, 'peak' is a general term to describe absolute benchmarks of human attributes. For this situation, specifically, strength, peak strength would mean his capable of easily pressing the equivalent of his own weight over head. Speed, for his 'peak' the measure is twenty-four miles per hour. So if his speed is twice the level of his peak, that means he's capable of running a maximum speed of forty-eight miles per hour. He can lift a total maximum amount of around one thousand pounds over his head, and this requires that he totally gives into his trance. The absolute fasted speeds he can run are between forty-to-fifty miles per hour, and they can be maintained only momentarily.
- His trances and the general transmogrification that accompanies them are very taxing on his body. Physical exhaustion is common after a trance, even in the earliest stages. The deeper he falls into his trance, the more exhausted he is when he comes out of it. It is not uncommon for him to simply pass out after a trance, especially after those that fall below tier two.
- While his healing factor definitely grants far more durability than others, it doesn’t make him entirely immune to all ailments. While he does not succumb to simple things such as the common cold, more potent viruses and diseases can affect him. While the very nature of this ability means these ailments are often simply burned away, he can become quite ill in the process. The nature of his ability does not make him immune various agents used in chemical warfare and subduement. (For example, this ability does not mean one couldn’t tranquilize him, simply that a larger dose would be necessary.)
- Despite the longevity that his physiology as granted him, he is by no means immortal. Due to the regenerative nature of his cells, he ages at a moderately decelerated rate. With his current rate, he will reach 'middle age' between the ages of ninety and one hundred. Due to the nature of his physiology, however, he will remain highly vital well past middle age.
- That being said, his healing factor cannot save him from situations that would normally be considered instantaneously lethal. He cannot recover from complete incineration, disintegration, or situations where less than fifty percent of his central nervous system remain. He can still drown, die from a lack of oxygen, or even die from a poisonous of toxic environment/and or atmosphere.
- That being said, extreme damage to brain or central nervous system can come with a variety of side effects that maybe temporary or permanent, depending on the damage. It is also quite possible that he may not be able to regenerate lost or damaged memories. Thus, wiping the slate entirely clean.
- Deep wounds. lacerations, severe burns, etc. will leave scars, or slight discolorations in the skin.

GENERAL APPEARANCE: Despite the rather gruff exterior, it doesn’t take long for somebody to realize that it is all kept painstakingly neat. His hair, his beard, etc. despite the somewhat unkempt nature, they never seem to change. It is a conscious choice he makes to look the way he does, as if to channel the image of ancestors long past. That being said, there is always a visible level of control. While his hair is long, it is almost always pulled back tightly, or slicked back. While his beard appears to be wild, it is visible trimmed and kept to a certain length. Everything about his appearance, both physical and cosmetic, is calculated down to the smallest details. Life is a game of chess, and every move counts.
He has three tattoos on his body. The most prominent is the name 'Abel' on is left pectoral. Another visible tattoo is upon his right forearm, a crude rendering of a gravestone with his mother's name on it. The last is on the inside of his right thigh, an excerpt from a prayer that reads "Hail Odin . Master of Fury. Primal and uncontained. Dictated by necessity. May I persevere, unrepressed, in adversity."
MUST HAVE APPAREL: When it comes to his dress on school grounds, it’s usually a calculated mixture of formal and casual dress. He often wears darker shades, and tends to stick with jeans. Sturdy boots usually round out attires on the bottom. On occasion he’ll wear a dress shirt and a trench combination (although he usually just wears a button-up.) His style of dress is more for comfort more than it is a fashion statement. When he’s out on academy business (recruiting or otherwise,) he often wears a three piece suit.
PERSONALITY: Despite his gruff exterior there is an intelligent, manipulative monster of a man that lives beneath the weathered surface. Often presenting a cool, tactful façade to the world, he is a man driven by his own needs and wants – bar none – but these goals are only known to him. He is not one to overshare with others. While he may feign interest in those around him, the information he often does slip is usually a well-orchestrated lie. These are often peppered in between obvious, playful, white lies, as if to throw off suspicion. Hypervigilance is a way of life to him, and control is paramount in any given situation. Not simply because of the nature of his powers, but more simply as a means to maintain a level of power over those around him.
Everything he does is about control, power, or both. He is a creature hell-bent on survival by whatever means necessary. Guilt is not an emotion that frequents this house, nor is sympathy. They maybe expressed on occasion, but they are rarely sincere. He has long since given up showing remorse for the things he has done, or will do, viewing everything as necessary evil when it comes to the greater plan in his mind. Like an animal backed into a corner, he views each and every single situation as if it is him versus them. There are no exceptions, he cannot afford for a moment to let his guard down. Even among those in the school, very little actual trust is granted to those around him. To trust would be to let his guard down, and that is outside of the realm of possibility.
While sedentary in his ways currently, this is not always the case. He presents himself with an understated level of gravitas that borders on extreme arrogance. While he doesn’t outright say he feels as though he is better than those around him (unless he’s asked,) it isn’t hard to figure out. While quite the extrovert, almost all of his social interactions are highly calculated moves. Unavoidable social interactions are handled with precision. When it comes to private interactions, however, he doesn’t associate with people who have no use to him. Those who approach him who have little to offer are often met with blunt dismissal. His time is precious, as it’s fleeting, and thus it is only spent on those who are worthy.
One of his more defining characteristic is his sheer force of will. When he sets his mind to something, or someone, there is very little, if anything, one can do to dissuade him. He is absolutely unwavering in his beliefs, and thus can come off quite stubborn, often times to a fault. He very rarely sees the merit in the opinions of others, and while he may respect them, that rarely means he will act in accordance. Often skirting the lines between what 'is' and what 'is not' acceptable in terms of his behavior towards others. Verbal jabs and mental manipulation being his weapon of choice in most situations. While not a pacifist by any means of the word, he tends to try to refrain from violence when in front of students, or on school grounds for that matter.
When it comes to intimate emotional relationships, they are often tools versus actual personal connections. Whether they are physical or intellectual, they usually mean nothing to Alistair. While he admires beauty, and to be frank, prefers that of femininity to masculinity when it comes to attraction, it ultimately rounds back around to power. Even purely physical interactions are often more about power and control than they are gratification. It is rare for him to make genuine personal connections, but he is hauntingly adept at simulating genuine affection and attentiveness to those who find themselves in this position. Seldom will he develop a genuine attachment, but when he does they are usually fleeting at best. He often grows board of people, discarding them like toys when finished with them.
One of the few redeeming qualities is that of his comradery shown towards those of his same genetic persuasion. Despite his own motives, the school is something he thoroughly believes. While he might not believe in some of the philosophical stances, and the non-violence, he believes in what it provides those who have do not have a place in society. The children, the future, are what he looks to protect. It is for this reason that he devotes himself, and his precious time, to its cause. Even if his methods aren’t always the most kosher.
EXTRA QUIRK: He often taps his fingers These taps are always rhythmic in nature. Whether in pace with a conversation, music, or with his own thoughts.

CHILDHOOD: Very little is actually known about his childhood, and what little information has been uncovered is likely one of his many elaborate lies. The only definitive fact is that he was born on October 7th, 1948 to a pair of second generation American citizens of Scandinavian descent. Little is known about his parents other than their names, Peter and Victoria. His southern accent has led many to believe he grew up in the south. It isn’t thick, but it’s quite noticeable. This could be nothing more than a red herring, as he has been known to change his dialect on occasion.
ADOLESCENCE: Equally little is known about his adolescence. Those who have seen him nude or near nude have made note of the fact that he has a variety of scars on his back and forearms that look quite aged. He has spoken about farming on occasion when it comes to stories from this time period, but one can never be too certain if he’s telling the truth.
ADULTHOOD: It is assumed that he served in the military, or has some sort of training as an adult, as he is quite adept when it comes to hand-to-hand situations. He often keeps his belongings quite neat, and the majority of his clothes are often folded into tight rolls. What is known is that he came through the doors of the academy once before in his life, at the age of twenty-two. At the time he was seeking safe haven, nobody knew quite sure from what. He spent a year within the walls of the academy before vanishing on a rather unremarkable day. He was noted as being a rather shy individual, very wary of those around him. He viewed his ‘evolution’ as a curse, and was almost fanatical in his belief that he was being punished for his sins.
He would return twenty-five years later an entirely changed man. When he returned he was confident to a fault, charming, but also a highly manipulative and concise individual. He never spoke about the missing time, nor what had changed his outlook on life. What was known about this missing time was that he had two children in which he had absolutely no contact with. The stories he has told paint the picture of a failed marriage, with Alistair often taking most of the blame. He cites heavy drinking and depression as the main reasons as to why it didn’t work. (Contrarily, there were also rumors that he abandoned his family.) He rarely speaks of his children, or of their mother, but when he does it is in a rather fond light.
While in his forties, he still looked like a man in his very late teens or very early twenties. He often used this to his advantage in his interactions with students at the time. It was during this time he split his time at the academy, and the nearby college. Despite attending for four years, he never walked away with a degree. Instead, he tended to take several different courses in a variety of fields. He wanted to obtain a working knowledge of everything, instead of being highly refined in a single subject. Despite his rather bullying disposition at times, his level of approachability was uncanny (when he wanted to be approachable, that is,) and thus he eventually become a member of the faculty at Bellefonte (despite the protest of some.)
While initially he taught a history class as well as helped students with their training, his methods of teaching and his perspective on certain subjects led him to be dismissed from his teaching post. Soon after, he ceased training students as well. A violent incident with another one of the trainers is credited for this. (The story goes that he assaulted a telepath that he noticed was trying to skim through his surface thoughts. He is quite wary of those with telepathic abilities, and due to his willful and hypervigilant nature, often masks his own thoughts with nonsense.) Action was taken against both members of staff, but Alistair ultimately decided to refrain from general interaction with students on such a personal level.
He would leave the school once more at the age of sixty, only for a matter of months versus the years he had spent away the first time. When he did return, he was not alone. He called his sabbatical a ‘recruitment’ drive. He had returned with six young children, all of which were seeking help with their abilities and a place to call home. They were vagabonds, many of which had been homeless or otherwise orphaned. It was in this that his potential was seen, and thus started his post as a recruiter for the academy. When not at the school, he spends his time attending to this duty. He often approaches those who are deemed as ‘high risks’ or ‘deeply troubled’ versus the standard fair. It’s noteworthy to mentioned the deep connection he tends to build with the students he recruits.
