Maya Renee Starr
FACE CLAIM: Zoey Deutch
---------------------------------
AGE: 19
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Homosexual
POSITION: College Student
POWER: Adoptive Muscle Memory
After seeing actions performed, Maya can copy and mimic them. Such as acrobatics, martial arts and other physical stunts. Basically, Maya's muscles can effectively mimic any physical action that she sees, whether this is in real life or on for example a television. By watching someone or something perform the physical action, she can perfectly mimic said action. Although she can mimic these actions perfectly, after only watching it once, she needs to be actually physically capable of performing them. She can mimic the moves, but not the strength it would take to say, lift a car.
LIMITATIONS:
- She can only mimic what she sees; meaning that she'd have to physically see something, whether it's in real life, or on a TV.
- Although she can mimic these movements to perfection, that doesn't automatically mean she has any knowledge about them. Even if she can mimic martial arts moves, she doesn't know the knowledge behind the moves.
- She can only mimic one thing at a time, meaning that if the first thing she mimics is a dance move, and the second a martial arts move, she will forget how to mimic the dance move - unless of course she has done these many enough times to actually know the steps by heart, save for actually just mimicking them.
- If she attempts at doing something her body is not physically capable of doing, she risks hurting herself.
- She cannot mimic powers; only physical movements, and not their capabilities, such as super strength.
- These mimics will only last for a short amount of time. Depending on the complexity, she can remember them from a few minutes, to an hour or two.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- Has a terrible habit of mimicking the movements of other people without being aware of it. Like, for example, if someone does a hand gesture repeatedly, she can suddenly start doing the very same hand gesture.
- Sore muscles, muscle crams and stiff joints, very much like after having a hard or straining work out are common side-effects Maya has to deal with along with physical exhaustion and feeling restless.
- She has to work out a lot to keep her muscles healthy and be active in order for her body to properly react to her power. Vitamins and a healthy diet works wonders for this too, but this is also something she has to pay a lot of attention to.
HEIGHT: 5'4"
HAIR COLOR: Black
EYE COLOR: Hazel
MISC: Now, the most important thing to mention is that Maya is not a very girly person. That doesn't mean she wears all boy's clothes, of course, and although she takes very good care of her looks, she doesn't dress up or use a whole lot of make-up. She will wear whatever feels comfortable at the time, and cares very little about whether or not her clothes match. Her hair is lightly curled and she has bangs that helps frame her rather round and cheeky face. She's often seen with a smile on her face, and she was a very friendly and easily approachable face.
Despite being much, much shorter than most people, it has never been a thing that has particularly bothered Maya. She's very comfortable in her own skin, and it shows too. Sure, she too has her own insecurities like everyone else, but with her positive go-lucky attitude, she tries focusing more on what she likes about herself, rather than what she doesn't like.
Maya has several small tattoos located on her body, one on her collarbone, one on behind her ear, one on her hip and one on her finger.
PERSONALITY: Maya is a tomb boy through and through. Being raised around six brothers, there was little time left for "girly" things, and Maya adapted to that and has always been "one of the guys", whether that means with her family, or her friends. She is naturally drawn towards making more male friends than female, and although being homosexual, she often finds herself judging other females easily, simply because she often sees them as overly dramatic and emotional.
Now, this doesn't mean that Maya is particularly lewd, noisy and crude. In fact, she's rather quiet, and although not reserved, she's not eccentric either. She's generally very happy and tries looking at the bright side of things. She is very self-aware and ironic, but has a tendency to get a little emotional from time to time. Unlike many other of her peers, once Maya gets angry, she'd rather get it all out there right away, as opposed to holding onto her anger for a long time and let it fester.
Despite not being shy (technically, anyways), Maya isn't the most talkative person. She's easy to read and usually wears her emotions and thoughts on the outside. She has very little to hide, and is generally speaking, pretty comfortable in her own skin. She's very ironic and tends to show a little attitude, such as being sassy and sarcastic, but never outwardly rude.
Often a walking, talking contradiction, Maya acts and does whatever feels right at the moment, which doesn't always work out nearly as well as one would hope. She is very sporty and athletic, and rarely enjoys sitting still for a long moment. To some, she might come across as bubbly, while to others, she might come across as shy and quiet, all depending on who said person is and her general mood (again; walking, talking contradiction), she prefers not taking life and everything handed to her too seriously.
SECRET(S): Being an very honest and open person, Maya doesn't really have any secrets.
FATHER: George Starr, 57, power mimicry and sensing, recruiter at Bellefonte
MOTHER: Annabel Starr, 51, enhanced athleticism, self defense teacher
SIBLINGS: Noah (31), Ethan (27), Carter (24), Jun Aaron (21), Cameron (20), Mason (20),
WORTHY MENTIONS: A Collie named Arnold, a German Sheppard named John, a cat named Sophie and a turtle named Alice.
CHILDHOOD: Maya grew up as the youngest sibling in a flock of seven. She was the only daughter too. Her parents had always wanted a large family, and made sure that neither of their children suffered from a too large age gap. Her mother quit her job and became a stay at home mom once the second son had been born, and stayed that way until all her children left the nest. Maya's father worked as a mechanic, and although the family was far from rich, they managed, even if that meant that clothes had to be passed on, and Maya more often than not had to wear her brother's old clothes.
Most of her childhood was spent as any other kid. There was little time for Maybe to act as a girl, and considering how she was practically raised by six older brothers, she started copying her brothers interests, and even from an early age, the girl enjoyed playing sports, that at the time, was considered "guy sports", such as football, which she still plays to this day.
The Starr family was a very close-knit family, who spent every Friday evening having dinner together and watching movies. The house was often crowded, what with all the siblings and their friends, and there were many arguments and fights, but through it all, the Starr family remained happy and took well care of each other. Maya often spent her time around her brothers and their friends, even when they didn't want her to. She was often seen as the clingy, annoying little sister who wanted nothing more than be around her brothers and play with them. She was very loved, of course, and she looked up to her brothers in awe, just as they at the end of the day, adored her.
Growing up in Houston Texas, the Starr family remained in one location, even as all their children manifested their powers one by one and was sent to Bellefonte. Both Maya's parents were mutants themselves and had both gone, and met at Bellefonte during their high school days, and had been together ever since. Watching her brothers go one by one, everyone roughly around the age of fourteen to sixteen, it was hard, but she couldn't wait until she manifested herself, and could join all her brothers at the academy.
ADOLESCENCE: Maya was fourteen when she manifested. The manifestation itself was subtle, and she didn't even notice it herself, until her father, the family's power mimic/sensor noticed the change. He immediately contacted the school, and within a week, the entire family relocated to Kalispell, Montana, and her father quit his job as a mechanic and started working as a recruiter at the school. Her mother started working as a self defense teacher.
Now that all their children had manifested, the family saw no reason to stay behind in Texas, and they all looked forward to finally being together again. George and Annabel bought a house outside of Kalispell, and the entire family moved back home and returned to the state they'd been in before their first child manifested.
Once she settled at the school, Maya's main focus was put into sports, such as football, track and gymnastics. Other hobbies she had was singing, dancing, chess and science. She made friends quickly, most of which guys. She realized at an early age that she had no sexual or romantic interest in guys. The only attraction she had was towards other females, and after a while pondering over it, she finally came clean to her family, and as expected, with time (after getting teased by her brothers), they accepted her for exactly who she was - and lord knows this family needed more women.
All in all, Maya's life at the school was uneventful, and she spent most of her time with friends and sports. Although she didn't fail any of her classes, she wasn't a straight A student...or straight B...or straight C's.... But she managed at any rate.
ADULTHOOD: Once she turned eighteen and graduated, Maya decided to spend the next year backpacking through Europe with a few friends. She went all over, spending her saved up money and getting odd jobs here and there. She visited various places with her friends. She'd told her parents she needed a year off school to figure out what she wanted to do with her life along with getting some experiences outside just learning various subjects. Reluctantly, her parents agreed that this was a good idea, and off she went.
After her year backpacking through Europe had ended, Maya returned, ready to start college again at the age of eighteen with lots of new memories and experiences. She has yet to find out what she wants to spend the rest of her life doing, but she fully expects spending the summer finding out what kind of classes she wants to take before her new school year begins at the end of August.
For now though, she's ready to enjoy the summer back home and move away from her family and actually getting a dorm room at the academy for additional privacy. After all, after a year of spending your time away from most people, moving back in with your parents is hardly the easiest thing to do, now is it?
