What the hell was she doing here? Selina looked back up at the school she hadn’t seen in upwards of seven years and sighed, procrastinating the moment she’d have to step foot inside. She had a few friends that she wanted to get back in touch with, yes, but she also didn’t belong here anymore. She’d moved on a long time ago. Her job working as a security official for an affluent politician and teaching women self-defense on the weekends for her own enjoyment provided well enough, so she hadn’t needed further schooling. She’d also finally gotten her dual citizenship in the U.S. approved so she didn’t have to worry about renewing a green card anymore either.
Selina had immediately left the school as soon as she’d graduated and had lived alone, providing for her mom and Maria as well as herself with the funds she’d saved from working during her school years and from her new job. She’d lost touch with the people at Bellefonte from merely being busy and from being less than competent at keeping up with long distance relationships. Selina enjoyed living alone, and though she’d had occasional flings here and there, they were never anything permanent and no one had ever been allowed to move in with her. She appreciated having her own personal space too much to sacrifice it for anybody… except for her cat, Boots.
Selina almost felt guilty for coming back here now. She’d been the one who let her relationships fall by the wayside, so what was she expecting to happen now that she’d finally come back? Selina took a breath and called herself a coward. Whatever would happen, would happen. Perhaps she’d just have a few refreshments and return home… she would be ok with that. Disappointed maybe, but ok with it. She honestly hoped she’d see someone familiar… or meet someone who was as uncomfortable as she was. The thought brought a small smile to her face and she made her way inside to the reception area where the party was being hosted.
Selina was dressed simply in black slacks and a dark blue satin blouse. It might have been slightly dressy for the occasion, but the business woman within her preferred appearing presentable no matter where she was. Selina found the people in the room to be slightly overwhelming at first, but she slowly made her way through the crowd and over to an inconspicuous and noticeably less cramped place along the wall. Now, to socialize. Socializing with strangers was still somewhat of a weak point of hers, but she would try.
