Prom. A year ago she'd been in a coma. She'd never been to any kind of prom really. But she'd heard whispers for a long time as to what it was like. She'd researched the latest proms a bit admittedly. She'd bought a dress for the occasion. Hey, this was new and she actually had a date for it. She wasn't about to squander this opportunity. She walked into the gym and leaned against the wall waiting for Martin to show up. Maybe he'd have even taken her suggestions into consideration. That would be funny. Dangerous and would probably get them kicked out before a single dance, but hilarious. Martin Grey

Thar she blows! He had been hiding around the doors for the best part of a hour, waiting for her to pass by. Wearing a two-tone suit and odd converse sneakers. Everything was set and ready. Awesome entrance song? Check. Flashy suit? Check. Neon sign totally not stolen from a local strip club? Checkamoondo. He was ready to cause chaos, with his best girl by his side.
He threw off his clever disguise, which consisted of wearing a overly sized hoodie and fake mustache, before making his way to the door. He stopped. S%$^! S%$^! I don't think I can do this!!! F^%$! Every time I try to do anything like this, I chicken out! Like a cowardly pile of system analysts! F^%$! He took a deep breath and caught sight of Olivia through the windows, without consideration for cowards on prom nights, on the doors. Turned red and proceeded to slink off to the side. No I can do this! F^%$ you system analysts! I'll show you that I can, and will, go and enjoy myself at a dance with a maiden as fair as Olivia Chance!
His body's excess energy started to power the neon sign and he heard the first few bars of 'Another one bites the dust'. He focused on letting loose some controlled tendrils of electricity around his converse soles, theorizing that they would just redirect as they made contact with the rubber soles. As Freddie said 'Are you ready for this?' Martin swung open the door and caught the eyes of anyone who noticed him. To add some for flair he let loose some harmless sparks from his hand and made a B-line for Olivia.

Olivia burst out laughing, a wide grin on her face.
"You actually went ahead and did it! That's awesome!" She was normally pretty somber and serious, but faced with a guy who was literally powering a neon sign attached to his suit she just couldn't keep a straight face. She smiled.
"If you start any electrical fires, I might have to manipulate the punch to put it out. But otherwise, that's bloody amazing. But isn't it a little heavy? You don't need to keep up the bravado. If it's heavy, you can just take it over. You made your point that you're willing to do anything for fashion. And prom. I...thank you. That makes it memorable and it also makes me feel more relaxed." She'd been pretty tense about it after all.

That's it Martin! You made her laugh! You made her freaking laugh!!! You gained the pleasure of hearing that laughter sweeter than any music possible, sorry Freddie. You've gained the
"And that, my fair maiden, is the answer to your question! Who am I? The amazing one! The one who makes you laugh and cut loose!" God she looked amazing in that dress "Don't you mean if I start a electrical fire you'll have to punch it out? Oh god kill me now. What do you by Bravado?" He began to pose like superman "This sign isn't heavy at all! In fact it's lighter than a pin for the Martin Marvellous!" He gave her a quick wink and went back to his normal posture "It actually is quite heavy, so..." He began attempting to take it off, nearly dropping it a number of times.
"So we gonna stand here like lemons or are we gonna dance? It is my song after all" His grin had something in common with that of the Cheshire Cat and his eyes seemed to glow a brighter blue in the dark lighting of the gym.

"I don't think lemon would be considered an appropriate word to use by the chaperones if they've read any fanfictions, but we'll just let that be our secret." She shrugged.
"And the punch pun WAS pretty bad. Just relax. You seem nervous and there's no reason to be. It's just a dance, and it's just me. Not a big deal." None of it was a big deal. She still couldn't believe someone had asked her. She wasn't exactly the one everyone was clamoring for after all. He had done what he'd said though. He had indeed made her laugh and cut loose. That was a feat too. He just had no idea how much of a big deal that was. That rarely happened for Olivia. For some reason though, it happened most of the time around Martin. It kind of baffled her to be honest. When he mentioned that it was his song, she chuckled and arched an eyebrow.
"I'm not sure if it's scary foreshadowing that 'your song' is another one bites the dust'...but yes. A dance would be good."

For a split second Martin caught a glance into that core of Olivia, beyond the steel box with titanium locks. And, for a split second, he had nothing to add. No jokes. No witty retorts. Nothing, but the feeling that it was only the two of them in that gym hall. It was a split second Martin wished had lasted longer, for it was all too soon over and they back to reality.
"Not a big deal!? You, fair maiden, better by smokin' something, either that or you've been assulted by a Orangatan and can't quite compute what is unfolding before you! For you are at a dance with the one and only Martin Grey!" He offered his hand to her "A boy too who has, somehow, convinced the most wonderful girl to ever grace these halls, to attend prom with him."
He gave her a wink "Now let's dance!" He grabbed hold of her arm and began dragging her towards the dance floor.

She heard his words and smiled for a split second before he said 'assaulted by an orangutan' and she felt like she'd been hit in the chest.
"My brother. But orangutan is close enough." She shook her head, dismissing images of her brother as she took his hand and followed him out to the dance floor. She needed to lose herself in the music, in the event. She had little chance to do so normally.
"You seem under the impression I'm a lot greater than I am. I'm a lot of things, bitch included. Great isn't really one of them. But I appreciate your efforts to cheer me up regardless." That's all it was. Someone who was nice trying to get her out of her slump. She knew it was. It was why she wasn't putting any weight in his words.

He winced as she mentioned her brother, but continued to drag her to middle of the dance floor non the less. After a few elbows to the face he had to resist the urge to just Taser a path through "Excuse me...Excuse me...F%$#@^* MOVE OUT OF THE WAY, YOU SCUM SUCKING MOLUSCS!" His point was emphasized by an accidental static electricity surge, which caused many of the girls to give him glares (Surprisingly so did a few guys)
When they reached the middle of the dance floor he looked over at Olivia and copied her own expression "And you, my fair maiden, seem to be under the impression that I don't believe every single word I say. These are not efforts to cheer you up, simply efforts to show you the truth. And I'm afraid that you truly don't believe that you are great. For it is the one and only, word I could use to describe you...apart from mind-blowingly sexy." God, she was infuriating! Why did she not believe what him? Why, in fact, would he lie about how great she was, if he didn't truly believe it himself?

Martin was being pushy and getting them to the dance floor. Once they got there though, he insisted on telling her again that he meant what he said. She finally realized he was serious. But...why? Why did he think those things of her? He genuinely thought she was great but...
"Why would you think that? I mean...I'm a bitchy screwed up mess. Yeah I clean up okay but that doesn't even come close to making up for all the issues I have. You're one of the only people I talk to on a regular basis, for example. I...I don't even know if I'm saying all of THIS right. I could barely fathom why you'd ask me to prom, but thinking I'm great? I don't know why." Olivia's self-confidence was actually low, bitchy front aside. She genuinely could not figure out why he was saying all these nice things. She arched an eyebrow.
"I'm...I'm just trying to figure out what angle you're working."

She seemed to be having a hard time comprehending what Martin was, as smoothly as a rocky road is rocky, saying. He sighed heavily as the song ended and gave Olivia a raised eyebrow "Why wouldn't I? Sure you're messed up, but so am I my friend (Just check why they don't trust me outside of the school). I'm short of more then a few cards of a full deck, in fact I don't even have a deck. And why do you need to know why I think your great? Can't you accept that fact? Maybe you don't think you're great, but I do." He threw his hands up in frustration and a few lights flickered.
"I come from no angle! What angle do you think I'm working?" Why wouldn't she just listen to him?
Post by Olivia Chance on Jun 4, 2015 23:45:52 GMT -6
Everything he was saying made sense. It made sense to her. But still, she was baffled. Why did this guy think this? Why was he so determined that she understand? Her voice came out quiet.
"I don't know what angle you're working. That's my problem. And...I have to wonder why you're saying these things. You're the first one to say them, so of course I have to question them." Her whole life, her brother had hammered into her head that she was worthless and should be ashamed. So of course she wasn't sure how to react when someone turned around and said the opposite.

The frustration, caused by Olivia's inability to believe what Martin was saying, caused a slight lose of control over his powers. More lights flickered and the speakers seemed to buzz louder. Noticing the lose of control over his powers, Martin took Olivia's hand again and began to work his way out of the gym.
Once, for the whole time he had known Olivia, Martin's voice did not hold that same energised feeling about it "We need to speak somewhere more private than the middle of a dance-floor, somewhere I don't have to worry about electrifying everyone around us." He wasn't going to let other people get hurt just because he couldn't keep a cap on his emotions.
Please just understand me, Olivia Chance! Understand I truly believe you're awesome! Stop thinking you're so messed up you don't get a chance at being GREAT! DON'T LET THE BASTARDS GRIND YOU DOWN!

The lights flickered and that's when it hit Olivia: he really truly meant it. And he wanted her to understand. She wasn't sure if she would but as he led her off the dance floor and to a more private place to talk about it, she thought maybe she did. He was so determined to make her understand. Olivia could see that. And his seriousness...she couldn't explain it. It made her aware that there was more to him than met the eye. It also made her feel...like she finally knew what the expression butterflies in the stomach meant.
"T-thank you." She looked down at her feet for a moment with a smile that was shy. It was uncharacteristic of her around Martin. But what else were you supposed to say when a guy made sure you knew he thought you were amazing. She summoned up all the guts she had and gave Martin a quick kiss on the cheek.
"I'm really g-glad you asked me to prom Martin."

They had only gotten halfway through the crowd when Olivia stopped him. She looked...nervous, a emotion he'd never seen cross her face before. His own face contorted into a wide smile and his eyes took on a brighter glow. The voice that came forth from his mouth seemed to fill the area around them with a static electricity "Why, your welcome Olivia Chance.".
As she kissed him, a pulse of static left them both with a shock. He turned to fully face her before speaking again, his face taking on a unusual red colour "I'm just glad you said yes."
The party seemed to fade into the back of his mind as he stood there staring at her. Seeing another moment into her core. Another moment past those titanium locks. Another moment of bliss. Martin took a step closer and spoke in a hush tone "I hope you realise that you have had the pleasure of stealing my first kiss." He gave her a wink before stepping back.

She felt the bit of shock. Well, she could definitely feel the electricity, but she thought that had been more of a figurative expression. Her hair was a little frizzy after that. She didn't care. She looked at him as he turned red. He was glad SHE'D said yes? She gave a small smile.
"Me too." She'd never have glimpsed the man inside the boy otherwise. Martin just stared at her and then it was Olivia's turn to blush under the look. He moved closer and spoke quietly. When she heard his words, her eyes popped wide.
"Aw crap I spontaneously stole someone else's. Well at least this bloody well wasn't truth or dare..." Her sass was back.
