Wu Aehyun
FACE CLAIM: Kim Jong Dae (EXO's Chen)
---------------------------------
AGE: 14 (Western years), 15 (Korean years) - for roleplay purposes he may introduce himself as either, so please keep this in mind
GENDER: male
ORIENTATION: aromantic heterosexual
POSITION: Year 9 Student (Freshman)
POWER: Electrokinesis (electrical manipulation)
Since he's fairly young, Aehyun has only recently started using his powers. He has the ability to generate, manipulate, and absorb basic electricity.
Aehyun is by no means a master of his powers at his current skill level. He is still very new and is finding out more and more each day, exploring the potential of his abilities with reckless abandon.
He's only had his mutation show for around 8 months, so he currently can only do a little bit.
Aehyun can generate electricity.
Even without a source, Aehyun is able to create electricity from his body. This, of course, requires using a great amount of his own energy and therefore makes it ideal for him to just take it from something else. As of the moment he can barely generate enough alone to power a small turbine, after which he is physically and mentally exhausted.
Aehyun can transfer and absorb electricity.
By storing it in his body, Aehyun can increase or decrease the amount of electrical energy he can use at any point in time. He can transfer this energy via touch, whether to shock another person or to power electrical items like machines. #TheWalkingAED
PLANNING:
Through dedicated practice, Aehyun will be able to eventually learn these abilities as well.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THEY DO NOT CURRENTLY APPLY TO HIS BIO AND WILL BE ADDED ONCE HE'S DEVELOPED AS A CHARACTER MORE IN PRACTICE.
Aehyun will be able to turn himself into pure electricity.
Aehyun will able to run through electrical currents, such as those found in wires, therefore hijacking or rerouting the information as he desires. He will also be able do this as a quick mode of transportation through telephone wires, etc. He will ONLY able to do this through a consistent source of electricity - shutting it down would kill him.
Aehyun will be able to negate, neutralise, or nullify electromagnetic fields.
Aehyun will be able to disrupt communications, cancel things like charged fences, and otherwise mess up areas of electrical activity within a certain radius of himself.
LIMITATIONS:
Aehyun cannot manipulate electrical fields in organic bodies.
Aehyun is not able to alter the electrical current in organic bodies, ex. the human brain. (This power may be "unlocked" at a later point in time as he improves his ability similar to the above Planned powers.)
Aehyun cannot change state of electrical atoms/particles.
Aehyun cannot solidify, liquify, or gassify (?) electrical charges or currents. He primarily works in plasmas, as they are what lightning and electrical sparks are primarily made up of. He also is unable to alter magnetism.
Aehyun cannot cause storms or manipulate them.
While he can screw around with the lightning that may come with a storm, he is not able to generate them himself.
Aehyun cannot create electrical creatures or constructs.
He is not able to concentrate the electricity to create artificial constructs, animals, etc. out of electrical energy.
Specific type weaknesses:
- Plant matter can be burned with enough electrical heat but are not conductive.
- Earth can easily absorb electrical attacks and render them useless.
- Water causes electrical ability to lose control and damage Aehyun himself.
- Reflective surfaces or thick walls, etc. cannot have electricity pass through them and can bounce it away.
- Currently, he needs a conductor in order to do anything with electricity (ex. he cannot form electrical attacks from afar - must be in contact with victim).
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- Aehyun has increased hyperactivity, but he burns out quickly if he doesn't absorb electrical energy.
- Absorbing or exerting too much electrical energy causes severe migraine. Overuse of power also leaves him with great exhaustion and head pain. Giving up or taking too much electrical energy could prove fatal.
- Aehyun can damage himself by transforming too often, possibly unbalancing the matter structure of his body and making it more volatile.
- Prone to seizures and fits.
- Short attention span and memory due to particles being more or less electrified and scattering of particles.
- High chance of failure or backfire.
- Naturally higher heart rate that can cause stutters and possibly an eventual heart failure.
HEIGHT: 170 cm (about 5.6 feet)
HAIR COLOR: dark brown - does not use dye or other product to colour or style it
EYE COLOR: dark brown - does not wear coloured contacts or lenses, etc.
MISC:
Physical Appearance:
Aehyun stands in at about 170 centimetres, or 5.6 feet. He's got messy dark brown hair that he'll comb every so often and large, puppy-like eyes that can pierce your soul from half a kilometre away. He weighs about 11 stone (154-155 pounds) and has a little muscle tone as he grew up playing football. His skin is a little pale in tone for his background (Korean), but he takes good care of it, so that it remains clear and soft. He has a scar on his left hand, between the thumb and forefinger, from cutting himself with a knife while chopping carrots at a young age.
He's oddly proud of his legs. Like, really, really proud.
School Uniform:
Aehyun, like all other students, adheres to the dress code of the school during operational hours. He prefers the summer uniform and will wear it as long as possible, because shorts.
Outside of School:
The typical dress for Aehyun consists of simple clothing - he's not one to go overboard, partially because he is very lazy about clothes and primarily focuses on physical appearance. He is fond of hooded sweatshirts and khaki shorts, which is what he wears day-to-day for the most part. He likes flip-flops and has multiple different pairs of them. Sometimes he wears "hip hop" clothing like jerseys, low-crotch pants, etc., especially when he's going out and wants to be HIP 'N' HAPPENIN'
When dressing up for whatever reason, he prefers simple dress shirts and longer khakis. He's not exactly the most careful, meticulous dude about clothes.
He sticks to mostly solid colours over wild patterns, as he thinks patterns detract from his face. He finds himself very handsome, so he doesn't want people to look away!
He sleeps in boxers and that's it.
Accessories:
- both ears are pierced with silver studs in the lower lobes
- often wears caps, especially switchbacks - he doesn't want to get a sunburn!
- braided leather bracelet on right wrist - gift from older brother for 14th birthday
PERSONALITY:
Aehyun is a mixed bag, really. On one hand, he's inclusive, fun, and inquisitive, but he's also selfish, lazy, and boastful. Catch him on a good day and he's happy to include you in all his activities, but catch him on a bad one and he's likely to just leave.
With work/teachers:
He's not someone who really acts out in class - yeah, he'll chitchat with his neighbour and whatnot. The problem lies in that he rarely completes work on time and it's usually half-assed, which he blames on not being fluent in English. His work ethic is very poor.
With family:
Up until he discovered his powers and became insufferable, he was on very good terms with all members of his family. His younger sister idolises him, but his older siblings scoff, perhaps jealous that they weren't like him. All the same, they get along, though with little rivalries. He writes to his parents and younger sister back in Korea often, and to his older brother and sister back in Canada.
With friends:
Selfish? That's Aehyun. As a result, most of his friends are people that he thinks he can get something from for his own personal gain. However, that doesn't mean he wouldn't be there for you at all; once he recognises his own bad nature and habits, he becomes caring, sensitive, and loyal.
With lovers:
There would have to be a very special girl. Aehyun is too into himself for love.
Positive Traits:
+ Inclusive/Intimate: Being friends with Aehyun will make him treat you like a lord. If you get past that into romantic territory, then he'll treat you like a god. He likes to meet and interact with others and is always inviting people along on his misadventures.
+ Courageous/Challenging: Even when faced with adversity, Aehyun is the one who steps up to the challenge and takes it head on. He enjoys being put into different situations and will seek out as much thrill as he can. He's a little bit of an adrenaline junkie, as it were.
+ Expressive/Extroverted: He is a man of the people, for the people. Aehyun likes to interact with others and finds seclusion and solitary action dull. He wants to make a splash and let everyone see. He's very dynamic and communicative as well.
+ Mischievous/Quirky: He likes to pull practical jokes, make silly faces out of windows, and sing loudly wherever he may be. He can be a bit of a troublemaker, but it's not usually out of malice or spite.
Negative Traits:
- Selfish/Greedy: All of the things are for him! ALL OF THEM. Let it never be said that Aehyun is good at sharing - he's horrible, and tends to become surly and jealous if someone gets a better score than him or more of something. He also doesn't always see the consequences of his actions, so that can lead to misunderstanding.
- Apathetic/Lazy: Though he's hyperactive, Aehyun doesn't dedicate much of his focus to anything. He's lazy where he should be attentive, such as classes, and blows them off without a care in the world.
- Cocky/Boastful: He doesn't think he's the best, he KNOWS he's the best. Probably. All the same, Aehyun is a rude winner and a sore loser, and if he achieves anything, expect to hear about it for months after, not to mention see him biting off more than he can chew.
- Oblivious/Blunt: Don't ask if you look fat in that dress, because he will probably say yes. Aehyun is pretty ignorant to the feelings of others and doesn't often recognise that his words can hurt, especially when he won't shut up. He also is pretty bad at telling things from body language and takes words at face value.
- Narcissistic/Vain: He is the most perfect thing in the world, right? Everyone knows that. In fact, Aehyun says it all the time. Just in case you forgot.
Skills/Hobbies:
- Speaks Korean fluently, and English near so, though he's still got an accent and mixes up words sometimes.
- Enjoys board and card games immensely! He's always got a pack of cards on him, and knows lots of different kinds. He loves to learn new ones as well. He also plays a lot of video games, mostly only online.
- He plays the bass clarinet, and used to be a bit of a band geek. He still has it somewhere in his room, and drags it out on occasion to give it a rip. #BandGeeksGoneWild
- Gets along well with small children - probably because he's a small child in a grown-u body.
- He is very diligent about keeping a journal! He writes in it every day, and sometimes several times.
- He's really into hip-hop music and raps. Poorly.
- Fairly good at football (soccer?) but pretty bad at every other sport. Would like to become better at basketball.
- He can identify every cloud type.
Other:
- His favourite kind of food is anything spicy, and as spicy as possible, please! The way to his heart is definitely his stomach, too - win him over with food.
- He's afraid of water and is actually unable to swim. This was around long before his powers really manifested, so perhaps it was a subconscious thing. Other things he is afraid of include flickering lights (don't ask why, they just freak him out), scorpions, anything pointy, and night terrors, which he gets frequently.
- Things he likes: boy bands (which he listens to with his sister), storms, extra-spicy kimchi that his mother makes, hip-hop music, bonfires, hair gel, pencils, sun cream, deserts, cacti, and vanilla cake. Donkeys, Mexican food, break-dancing (poorly), hooded sweatshirts, and mint toothpaste.
- Things he dislikes: cinnamon, touch screens, shoes/shoelaces/socks (his feet sweat easily), insects, smell of wet fur, turf, any maths or science course, plaid, sleeping in (he can't sleep more than 5 or 6 hours for the most part), and ear-buds. French, oceans/lakes/ponds/etc., milk chocolate, shellfish, and chalk.
- He's lactose intolerant but he's pretty YOLO about it.
- He doesn't know what he wants to do with his life. He likes storms but he hates the other sciences you have to take to be a meteorologist or storm chaser.
- He's far-sighted, but he doesn't wear glasses.
- Do not go near any food this kid makes. I beg you. For your own safety.
SECRET(S):
He actually doesn't have any secrets. Things that he has, things that he's done - they're laid out bare, and if you have a problem, sucks to suck.
The closest thing might be that he cried watching a sad film once. How very unmanly :[
FATHER: Wu Jong Bin (56)
MOTHER: Lee Tae Min (42)
SIBLINGS: Wu Jin Su (21, brother), Wu Jae Hee (19, sister), Wu On Hyu (9, sister)
WORTHY MENTIONS: pet axolotl named Kiko, whom he misses terribly
CHILDHOOD:
Scabbed knees and stubbed toes; that was the childhood of Aehyun. Born July 19th, 1999 to Wu Jong Bin, an accountant, and Lee Tae Min, a potter, he barely scraped by as a 1900’s baby, entering the world with a sound like a siren as though afraid no one would notice his arrival. With two older siblings already there, his parents were learned at raising children despite the young age of his mother, who married at 20 and gave birth at 21 to her first son.
Icheon, South Korea – the birthplace of what would eventually become today's Aehyun. He spent much of his time running in the rice fields surrounding their simple home, or in the garage where his mother would spin the magic wheel that crafted all manner of things. He collected bugs with his big brother Jin Su to scare his sister Jae Hee, and swam in local rivers and ponds, and went to school like any normal boy. Rambunctious and mischievous, he was known to be the class clown, the one pulling pranks on all the teachers.
However, when he was just 6 years old, his father made the choice to move to Seoul; the transportation time for him to get to work was simply too great. Sad though it was to leave behind that old house, a city was an adventure for young Aehyun, whom had only been to Seoul a few times. Upon arrival, he instantly slipped into the stream of sociality, the way young children often do. His jokester attitude allowed him to easily get along with anyone willing to listen or pay attention to his japes. He got to know the city like the back of his hand, exploring with his peers and siblings, enjoying the bustle that it brought with it. His younger sister On Hyu was born, and she became greatly attached to Aehyun very quickly – her first word was “oppa”, as a matter of fact, a demand for him to come running. In turn he loved his little sister, and babied her most immensely despite his own young age.
Seoul didn’t last long either. They were there just 2 years, Aehyun reaching the age of 8, before it was announced that company offices would be opening overseas. The Wu family was one of those whom were either lucky or unlucky enough to be moved to Canada, the decided location.
British Columbia was nothing like Korea, and the shock of the culture was great at first. However, there was the fortunate fact that many immigrants lived in the suburb of Vancouver they moved to, and they were able to hold onto their Korean. Though their older siblings and parents struggled, Aehyun and On Hyu picked up on English very quickly because of their young flexible minds.
ADOLESCENCE:
Going into the upper levels of middle school was tough for Aehyun at first, as more strain was put on his English vocabulary. He had difficulty expressing himself fully and the fact that the teachers often called didn't help. He spent time in detention, and his parents, concerned, took him to a doctor. While it didn't seem there was anything wrong with him, they slapped an ADHD label on him and sent them on their way. Aehyun was transferred into the "gifted" class, which he found agonizingly dull, and it only served to make his attitude worse. He became rambunctious, attention-seeking, and even just plain annoying.
The day he discovered his powers was like any other normal day. As he had grown p in fascination of storms thanks to his mother, who enjoyed them as well. Often they would sit on the back porch of their house and watch the rain and clouds swirl and thunder fiercely, well into the night.
One day, he and Jin Su decided to go out during one of he worse storms of that season. As a dare, Jin Su told Aehyun to go touch the huge tree that dominated near their fence. Never one to back down from any kind of challenge, Aehyun made it there - but the lightning unfortunately chose him as its next target once he was underneath it.
Any normal person would have died, especially since he was only going on 14 years old. Fortunately for Aehyung, he wasn't a normal person. The energy did give him some burns and hurt him, yes - but the majority of it was sucked into his very being. Unfortunately, he was unable to contain much of that energy for long, and it escaped into the earth when he collapsed - but all the same, it became clear that he wasn't fully human. Aehyun, somehow, carried the mutant gene.
The doctor's records got the government involved very quickly, but unfortunately, the burning down of Acton Vale in Quebec left his parents with a bad taste in their mouths, and they weren't entirely comfortable with the potential of his having to learn French in addition to English despite mandatory school French classes. They decided upon the next best thing - Aehyun would attend school in the United States at Bellefonte Academy. It was therefore quick that he was registered for the next school year, but carefully monitored during that time. During that time he also became cocky and quite firmly invested in the belief that he was better than his own siblings.
Because his powers manifested late - or perhaps just chose to show themselves then - Aehyun is in his first year at Bellefonte as a freshman of secondary school. Hopefully he will learn to become more humble in time. His parents and younger sister moved back to Korea, though his other siblings currently remain in Canada for their own educations. Aehyun remains in contact with them, though they themselves still find him insufferable.
Hey. He's just a kid, right?
SAMPLE:
(Taken from another character's profile I have on another site I signed up for recently. Not my best work ever but I don't want to get too long, ehh.)
July 13th, 2014
Dear Diary,
This is the last time we'll talk, buddy, even though this is only our third meeting.
I thought I had lost you, but there you were, under a pile of other books on my bookshelf. I opened you up and there was eight pages of writing staring back at me, and then 142 more that were empty. Maybe I'll fill up a few now, but after this, you're going in the fireplace.
There's a lot of bad blood in here. I was a mad kid, I didn't know what I was thinking or feeling. I'm 18 now, if you can believe that. Last time I wrote in here I was what, 14, 15? I can't even remember, but it was a while ago, and fuck, I had some messed up stuff upstairs in that head of mine. Still do, maybe worse, but at least I peed, sweated, and bled most of that shit out.
Diary, I wanted to thank you, for making me see what was important. When I first started I was cynical, eh, not believing in you, but now look at me. Hyu Na is my little sister, and I fucking love her to death. No, not in the same way that I loved Eun Mae - this is a healthier love, a proper kind, and I'm not gonna let the same shit happen to my new lil' sis.
Eun Mae? Well, she's always my little moonbeam, ain't she. I don't think there's ever enough sweat in my body to get that sickness out. I said Hyu Na was toxic, eh, but I was wrong - it was Eun Mae all along, stringing me like her little puppet. I don't blame her. She wanted to be in control and I wanted to be in love. We were both perfectly good and horribly bad for one another.
I want to find a new girl to love. I want a girl who I can kiss behind the ears and tell her that I love her, or one whose smile can make me release all that deep rage in a way that's healthy. I want to find new friends to mess around with, and I want to start studying (haha, little joke). I don't want to be a 13-year-old trapped between paper and afraid of green lines.
So, Diary, that's why I'm burning you. Maybe that smoke will reach some other kid out there going through the same shit as me and tell them, "hey, shut the hell up and man up". Lord knows I needed a wakeup slap.
I don't dream about flying to the sun anymore, and I don't dream of Eun Mae. Her laughter is gone, and so is her smile, they're just pricks on my eyelids and flashes of noise in my ears. There's nothing left of Eun Mae but a ghost, and I don't think you can screw ghosts.
Au revoir, Diary. I think it's time that I had the time of my life.
[The diary was not able to be found after this entry, though an interesting new amount of ash appeared in the fireplace of the dining room. Some not fully burned might even have had words imprinted on it.]
