Jaylin stood off to the side with her drink as she watched the happy couples dance. It was weird, even the awkward couples were dancing. It was the kind of cheesy school event she didn't want to go to but also didn't want to miss at the same time. If was complicated and entirely to simple at the same time. Finishing her drink she waited until the stupid slow song stopped so she could dance.
Judging by the actual tempo of the song she didn't think anybody would be stupid enough to slow dance to it. The awkward thing about going to prom by yourself...is the slow songs. She weaved around the people and started dancing in the middle, yup she definitely didn't need someone to have fun in prom. That and there was always some long ass dress to step on if she feeling vindictive.

"You came alone too, or is your date somewhere else?" The girl was in the middle of the floor and Cade figured he might as well talk to one of the single people in the room. Hopefully it would stop him from seeing Devyn and Vera. Or thinking about them. Together. He sort of dance shuffled to the music. He knew how to dance. But shyness often prevented him from actually letting loose.

"Alone" Jaylin said confidently to the guy that had walked up to her. She hadn't seem him around school before so she assumed he was a recluse or a College student. She stopped dancing and smiled up at him. Well it was obviously fate was giving her something to work with, maybe she wouldn't have to be standing around looking lonely.
"So why did you come alone...if you dont mind me asking?" She said raising an eyebrow in his direction. After all there was nothing wrong with his looks, so it had to be something else.

"I don't know. I'm a glutton for punishment?" He chuckled.
"They needed some staff for chaperoning and I'm technically recruit staff besides being a college student. That and I'd rather be at a party than alone with my thoughts, y'know? Just a better option." He shrugged with a smile. No, he wasn't going to mention Devyn. Devyn had told him some things were better omitted and he was trying to take her advice. He didn't need to say everything on his mind anyways. It was better that he could take his mind off it.
"So what brings you to prom alone out of curiosity?"

All the good looking guys were either delinquents, college students or guys she probably shouldn't be talking to once the sun rose. Jaylin raised an eyebrow and smiled, so he didn't get the date he wanted. It was the only reason Prom would be punishment. "Assuming that I've made the right conclusion...its her...or his cause I don't judge loss. Just focus on having fun" After all, no one should people afffect how they felt or their fun negatively...or at all.
"Uh probably the fact that I don't really like anyone enough to ask or be asked." There was also her crazy brothers, her tendency to womanize and the whole "mandated" thing. However those weren't of any consequence.

"Her. I'm not gay. Not that I have anything against gays or anything. Just not what I am is all." He shrugged.
"I wasn't quick enough. Her best friend asked her first. So...you don't like anyone enough to ask or be asked. But you still came to the dance, so you must like a good party. Am I right?"

"Aw, I'm sorry it didnt work out for you." Jaylin said offering the guy a kind smile. After all, he had lost out to the best friend. If was kind of...like clichéd and stuff but she'd try and be sympathetic.
"Yes, there's always a party somewhere... Although school sanctioned ones are kind of tame" She said shrugging her shoulders. After all there was no reason for her to lie. She was used to parties she had to sneak into and underground clubs.

"Yeah thanks I am too." He sighed. It sucked, but at least he was here instead of in his dorm room throwing a pity party. Speaking of parties, this girl seemed to like them.
"Well I rather like tame sometimes. The last time I went to a non school sanctioned party, I ended up going home in a towel because some dude puked on me. Not exactly the most pleasant of experiences." He laughed.

Jaylin smiled and studied the guy. He seemed like one of those awkward types. "Do you wanna dance?" after all they were both on the dance floor alone. It wasn't weird for her to ask a guy to dance. Obviously you couldn't sit around all day and wait for them to grow the nerve.
"Ouch, you must've not gone to then right party then. If you're ever looking for a good party experience look me up." Although the cardinal rule of partying was always have something extra to wear. Whether it be a long shirt, or a pair of sneaker. "I'm Jaylin by the way."

"I...sure." Why hadn't he bothered to ask? It wasn't like he didn't have the guts. It just kind of hadn't occurred to him. They were dancing near each other already.
"I figured dancing together kind of just meant dancing near each other honestly. So...I don't know how to proceed really. Or at least, how to proceed without incurring awkwardness." He chuckled.
"Maybe I didn't go to the right party. But then again, I didn't go the party for myself. My...friend was going." Dammit that friend label. Damn it all.
"Although I may take you up on your offer of a different party sometime. Could be interesting."

Jaylin nodd d and smiled brightly, he was adorable. She moved closer to him. "Well right now, we just move closer but don't worry they'll be a slowly song soon" It was inevitable, she was sure prom was mostly slow songs at least as far as she we concerned.
"Ah, that makes sense and you should always go for yourself. That way if something goes wrong with someone you Wong be effected." Of course she went parties with people but normally just because she didn't want to drive. She wasn't the type to drive drunk, she didn't want to get hurt or pulled over. That would he ha d to explain to her brothers.
"Cool, I'd like that" She said nodding. Maybe prom wasn't a complete bust. After all she had managed to sort of courrpt one person.

"How do you know there will be a slow song?" He was barely finished moving closer to her and saying those words when a slow song came on. He blinked rapidly and just looked at her.
"That's impressive. By the way, name's Cade." He chuckled. He did think about her point about going to parties for yourself.
"Thing is, I'd never go by myself. Too shy. Too lazy. Too sleepy. Too 'not knowing anyone'. Take your pick."

"Just a feeling" Jayling said smirking as the slow song started. She shook her head in amusement and moved his hands to her waist. "You put your hands here, and i put my hands here" She explained laughing softly as she set her hands softly on his shoulders. SHe didn't want to scare him away but they'd be waiting forever for him to move. Besides she was used to being the forward one, she didn't beat around the bush, unless it was necessary.
"I'm Jaylin...is Cade short for anything?' She asked curiously. It was a strange name, but a understandable nickname. Although she couldn't really complain about the names though, she felt like hers was too long even if it was only six letters.
"Just because you go for yourself doesn't mean you need to go by yourself. Just go because you want to have fun, not because you want to see someone. Haven't you ever heard, if you can't be alone then how can you be in a relationship?" She smiled understanding at him, because she did understand how people could be shy. Not everyone was as outgoing and uncaring as she was, nope she had found a wallflower supposedly.

"Yeah...I kind of know how to dance. I just don't most of the time. But it isn't that different from my martial arts training in a way. They can be both peaceful and energy charged at the same time for example." She put his hands on her waist. Crap he knew how to dance, but that didn't mean he wouldn't be prone to screwing up. He got nervous. For all his false bravado, he got nervous. That was one of the many reasons he liked Devyn. He could be himself. There was no nervousness for some reason. Cade was still trying to figure that one out.
"Nope. It's actually not short for anything. My parents liked names that were short and kind of sounded a bit different. So I'm Cade Atkinson now." She mentioned that going for himself wouldn't mean going alone and he smiled.
"Well I suppose that's true. But I couldn't go alone. And I don't have the guts to ask anyone. Even if I did, I don't really have many friends." In fact, now that he thought about it, Devyn was basically it. Devyn and Vera and his room-mate Alexandra. But...now he had to admit he was kind of crossing Vera off the list. He'd known she'd liked Devyn but moving in on Devyn had kind of left Cade just a little lifeless. He wasn't going to think too much about any of that. Instead, he'd let his feet glide to the music.

"That actually makes a lot of sense, Also you're into martial arts? That's really cool, i'm into it too...though considering my power is centered around it it makes me a bit biased." Jayling said laughing at herself really. It was kind of cheating but she did have to train her body, she didn't get instant mastery skills. Also there was the problem with her looking eleven, she was kind of hoping she was wrong and he was a high school student.
"Ah, well some people call me Jay and then others call me Lin. I guess they choose which parts of my name to get use." She shrugged her shoulders, it wasn't all the important to her. A name was a name and there were times where she didn't even give people her name...or ask for theirs. In the end it really didn't matter if you weren't gonna stick around anyways. She wasn't sure if she was supposed to feel sad about that or not.
"Well like I said, im always dow-as a matter of fact, there's a party next weekend. You should definitely go it. It might keep you from being all sad about your current situation" She told him trying to be helpful, she'd even volunteer to escort him to said party. He didn't need to be so down in the dump because of a girl, there were a million pretty girls in the world, hell more than a million.
