Jaylin wasn't really sure what to think. It was kinda of obvious in the way she played with napkin depenser that she didn't know where to start. It was kind of hard to find words to say anything when there were so many words bouncing around. He had been working at the school for a short time and she had felt that they should finally "talk". Well they all needed to talk but she felt it was better that she talked to them individually first.
"So uhm, how have you been, Working in school must be different?" They had to start somewhere, like she wasn't good with all this emotional shit. She was afraid that it if she started the anger wouldn't stop. She didn't want to be angry with him...or any of them. There was just so much pent up frustration.
She opened the menu trying to deflect some of the attention off conversation for awhile. Maybe he had a better way of going about this. She was fully okay with the silence at least for now.

Sergeant First Class Corey Spencer had stared down enemy ambushes in the dead of night. He had seen the enemy swarming over hillsides with nothing less than murderous intent for him and his men. He had seen the dismembered bodies of innocent civilians who dared opposing the warring factions of foreign countries. He had delivered babies in the middle of war-torn villages and had given every ounce of his being into attempting to save wounded soldiers that he knew would die on the battlefield regardless. Through it all, nothing had prepared him for the nerves that would come from staring down the 17 year old girl sitting across from him.
"It is." He confirmed with a short nod. Just as his baby sister seemed uncomfortable with the situation so, too, did the 6'5", 270 lbs hulk she was speaking to. "The work, itself, is the same. Patching up people doesn't change." He offered a light chuckle, hoping like hell they would be able to get passed this awkward phase. Family was far too important to be stuck in this hellish limbo. "The work environment is a lot different." Which was true. It wasn't so much what he did that was so different. Treating minor to severe wounds, burns and the like was the same as it always was. The difference was no one was shooting at him as he worked on his patients.
"How about you?" He asked, turning the focus back to the girl. "Morgan tells me you're doing well in school."

Jaylin had to laugh, it was a different environment, especially since there was no war going around them. "Yeah, it must be less stressful..i think" Considering it was just a bunch of kids and not soldiers. Although she was pretty sure, the awkwardness was going to kill them if they didn't something about it soon. She could do this, all those parties she snuck into, the fighting guys three times her size. Talking to her brother shouldn't be that hard all things considered, but of course it was because she had so much she wanted ask him, to tell him.
"Yeah, I study a lot. Even though i've lived here for six years...it still doesn't erase everything from Miami. I'm also into Boxing, even before the whole Academy thing. I have the record for the longest winning streak at the rec in town." She said proudly, because why shouldn't she be proud. There was so many things to catch him up on. She was also curious about his, life. She wondered if he had anybody special while he was abroad, even though she knew he was at war most of the time.
"Okay so I have to ask, is there anybody special in your life?" She snickered and looked at him with an innocent look over her menu. Okay yes she wanted to know if he had a secret girlfriend because it would be something to laugh about with Morgan. If not she could try and set him up with one of the teachers at school. To be honest, even Morgan needed to be set up if hadn't found a girlfriend by the summer.

The girl was right. Corey's stress level now was nothing like it was while he was still enlisted. That was one of the main reasons he hadn't been able to make it to 20 years of services where he could retire. He felt as though he'd come down with an ulcer or have a break if he waited that long. Most special forces operators didn't come with long term expiration dates. "It is." He confirmed with a nod. "It's different because it's mostly kids and the methods and procedures aren't as... forceful, I guess you could say." Because a soldier dying on the battlefield rarely cared about the pain Corey had to inflict to ensure he got back home alive. "But I'm adjusting."
"Really?" His eyes brightened some as he heard of his little sister's proficiency in a combat sport. He nodded, obviously impressed. It seemed as though his younger brother had been a solid stabilizing influence on the girl. It's not like Corey would give any credit to their deadbeat parents. "Yeah?" He hadn't expected the conversation to take such a dark turn so quickly. The two of them did share one thing in common, though, when it came to their rough upbringing. "Well, we're fighters, Jaylin, every last one of us." He said with a sure nod. "That you're here right now is proof of that."
It shouldn't have come to any surprise that a 17 year old girl would be curious about his love life. In truth, Corey's first love had been the Army until just a couple, short years ago. He'd spent much of his service time during the peak of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. He found little time for love while being sent all over the Middle East. "No." He said, shaking his head with a light chuckle. "Hard to find love when you're deployed for half the year and training for deployment the other half." Although there was a teacher at the Academy that had caught his eye. That wasn't anything worth noting just yet, though. "How about you?" If so, Corey was certain he would have to meet this fellow.

"Adjusting?...That's mean you'll be sticking around for awhile right?" Jaylin asked, stressing the word, because he really didn't have any other option than to agree. Not to mention by awhile, she had meant forever...or until he died from old age whichever came last. She was also glad that he was adjusting because that meant he didn't miss the army. At least she thought it was what that meant, she wasn't used to all these feelings. She was used to leaving when things got emotional and stuff. She wasn't exactly sure who she learned that from but she was sure it was one of her family members.
"Well don't worry we'll fix that soon enough" Mostly because she was well aware of what three brothers living with her meant. She would not get her own love life until they had women...or men..to distract them all. She snickered at his question about hers. "That would be a negative, there aren't many guys who can keep up with me and girls well they're all just so pretty it's hard to choose just one ya know?'
She didn't think about the fact that she hadn't exactly briefed her brothers, beside morgan about her preferences. She just assumed they would accept it since they obviously like girls...or guys she didn't judge. "Besides, If a guy can't handle me, do you think they'd be able to face Morgan? Dude's huge" She said laughing and shaking her head.

Corey nodded firmly, his eyes catching his little's sisters in an effort to punctuate his certainty. "I'm out of the Army." He said, his voice stern even though that was something he couldn't promise. As special operations he would be placed on inactive reserve status indefinitely. As long as there was fighting going on somewhere, Corey would be kept on tap just in case he was needed. "This is home now. That's why I wanted us all to move into the new house." His younger brother, Morgan, had done an admirable job of making a homestead for their baby sister but there was something about having all four sibling under the same roof that felt comforting. Even if Corey was the odd man out and only really new the middle brother, Jaime.
A low chuckle escaped the back of Corey's throat. "Is that so?" He said, not quite believing his 17 year old sister was going to hook up with anyone anytime soon. Regardless of the fact that he'd already set his sights on someone. "That's in our blood." He replied with a laugh. Every last one of the Spencer siblings were active and determined to a fault. There was a reason the older brothers were all massive mountains of muscle. "He's not that big." Corey chuckled. "I'm still the oldest."

Jaylin was not naive enough to believe that he wouldn't have to go when they called for him. She'd be stupid enough to believe that he would never want to go back. She was good at living in the moment and that's what she'd do. She take his word that he'd be there then and they would be fine. "Good, I look forward to getting to know you." It was true, she wouldn't leave him alone until she knew just as much about him as she did Morgan.
"Yup, but don't tell Morgan...or rather lets forget my love life." She said smiling innocently at Corey. Just because she was his sister and she should be able to call him Corey, as a matter a fact she was gonna ask him about that. Hopefully he wouldn't have some tragic back story about how his name came to be.
"is it okay if I call you Corey? I notice people call you by our last name" She was going to keep reminded him that they were family, because....she had still not quite forgiven him and by default Jamie. She was working on it but shew as good at all this emotional reconnecting stuff.

"Yeah, me too." Corey nodded faintly and offered a bit of a smile. The four siblings had never shared a single home at the same time before. There was a significant age gap between them all and, with Corey having been just 14 when he found himself shipped off to the Academy and 18 when he enlisted in the Army, he had a lot of catching up to do. He knew it wouldn't be easy. They were simultaneous family and strangers to one another. The older two, Corey and Jaime were closer much like the younger two, Morgan and Jaylin, had grown over the years. It was all a tangled mess that, Corey hoped, would eventually work itself out with time.
"Your secret's safe with me." He said with a faint smirk. The years had pushed a great deal of different folks in Corey's way. There was no judgement to be found and he hardly flinched at the subtle admission that came from his baby sister. Little phased Corey at this point. He'd seen too much and met too many people in his years for such a simple thing to cause any sort of issue. It was just another piece of what made up the girl he so desperately wanted to learn more of.
"Hm?" Corey's head tilted at Jaylin's question. It was a strange one, at least at first. Corey had always gone by his last name. He was active in sports even as a kid and the military dealt exclusively with surnames. "Oh." He nodded after a moment and shook his head. "Yeah, Corey is fine." He said. "It's just habit." His brow furrowing as he thought it over a little more. "One I'm trying to break, actually. I'm not in the Army anymore. It's the little differences when you get out that stick with you."

Jaylin offered him a smile, this would obviously go better than she had thought it would. Of course living with three guys would be tough, but at long as they cleaned up after themselves it would be okay. Besides she had heard that military folks were clean, and stuff. At least they were that way on TV, she didn't know if it was true or not. She was kind of hoping that it was because she could not deal with a messy person. Morgan wasn't that bad, but she had two other guy walking into the picture.
"Good" Although she was sure that when it came to her actually dating and stuff, however she would fix that way before she found someone she would actually want to bring home. Now that he was working at the school she would probably have to be extra careful. Which meant they couldn't afford to change the subject. "Now, Now you are getting out that easily. Have you seen any of the female teachers...or the Males ones...I don't judge and they're all hot." she said smirking.
"Okay, that's fine...because I was gonna call you Corey anyways." She said giving him an innocent look. Of course she might have respected his wishes to go by his last name...maybe. However she was the little sister and she got certain privileges. it was her sworn duty to bother him no matter what.

Corey studied his baby sister for a long moment before a thin smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. His head shook as he issued a resigned sigh and lifted the still steaming cup of coffee that had been neglected. If this was what it was like to have a little sister running around, there was a lot he'd need to get used to. It stood to reason she wanted to know everything she could about him. If they were to grow close as family should, he'd need to learn to open up and give away more information than he usually cared to.
"No." He said flatly, lifting the mug to his lips and taking a short sip. Love had always been one of the many things that didn't fit well in the life he'd led up to now. At this point he wasn't even sure if he would be able to feel any sort of romantic notions. "There's no women I'm looking at." He stressed the gender simply for the sake of clarity. He had the sneaking suspicion Jaylin was going to try and set him up with the first person over twenty five she came across. At the very least he wanted to make sure she got the gender right. "And they are dedicated professionals." He insisted with a short nod of his head. Corey was nothing if not respectful when it came to his peers. Perhaps overly so.

Jaylin snickered as she took a sip from her milkshake, she found this whole conversation incredibly amusing. "Okay, Okay I take a hint, you like woman. Just know that I will match you up with someone and you should just go along with, least I make you a profile on Mutant Match." She gave him her patented innocent look and she looked through the menu again. She should probably order something healthy, but she kind of wanted a double cheese burger. She was most likely going to order it, mostly because she deserved a break from her whole strict routine.
"I know that it's not a choice and everything but are you sure you aren't repressing the whole gay things because you were in the army? I read an article on that but if you're sure that you liked girls and you aren't at all curious. I think I know who to set you up with." She knew a lot of the female teachers were either married or incredibly scarred for some reason. Maybe she was a bit more focused on getting him a girl than she should have been. She was incredibly excited to have the boys living with her. It's just her love life was complicated with Morgan, she didn't need Jamie and Corey locking her in tower.
"So what's your favorite color and how tall are you?' She said after they had ordered their food. She loved the diner, especially since it had all her favorite food and was and equal distance from their house and the school.

"Mutant Match?" Corey's brow furrowed as she stood straight, lowering the cup of coffee as he looked to his sister. "Is that an actual thing?" It didn't surprise him in the slightest, though he'd never heard of it. Anyway, he wasn't one for the whole dating site thing. Hell, he really wasn't one for dating period. He was a private man used to putting the mission first. In a way, he'd yet to let go of that mindset. He would remain loyal to the students and staff that called Bellefonte home. Much like he did in the Army, Corey was there to protect, a duty he took seriously. "No." He said, head shaking, though he couldn't help the amused smirk from touching his lips. "Not a chance."
He'd given a chuckle and a shake of his head at the farcical concept of a mutant dating service, though what followed Jaylin's assertion that she would set him up with someone caused him to nearly choke on his coffee. "What kind of articles are you reading?" He asked, snatching a napkin to wipe the spilled coffee from the tabletop. "No. I'm not curious." He said, head shaking again in disbelief. "No matter what you've read."
"Blue and six-five." Corey answered with a curt nod. He didn't mind the barrage of questions. In fact, he welcomed it in a way. It made things simple. With all the lost time they had to make up for it stood to reason they'd make use of shortcuts. "How about you?" Lost in all of Jaylin's questions was the fact that the focus of the conversation had been squarely upon him. "What's your love life looking like? What's your favorite color, height, and favorite hobby?"
Post by Jaylin Spencer on Jun 9, 2015 4:41:44 GMT -6
Jaylin snickered and nodded "It's a dating site where mutants can meet other mutants. I don't know if it's limited to just our school though. You could totally have an internet relationship, although those don't really work out much. Especially when you actually meet off screen, I read this article about it." Yeah Jaylin was the type to read cosmo and vogue and internet editorials on online dating. She wasn't ashamed of it either, sure she didn't care for all the dress this way or dress that way movements. She liked to dress up and wear heels because she the added height and she loved the pointed heels. They were good for kicking people in, though she tended to break the heel more often than not, But that was okay because she knew how to fix them.
"Never you mind, it was just an account on someone's experiences or another. I was just checking just want you to know i'm here for you no matter what." She just didn't mean about the whole curious thing either. She was really good at giving advice, although she dealt with her problems either by running away or with violence. She was really good at helping others fix their own problems...go figure.
"I don't have a favorite color, I don't like yellow though and darker colors make me look older which I love. Brighter colors make me look like I'm five." Being so short and adorable had their drawbacks. She was pretty sure that most people though she thirteen most of the time. She loved the looks on their face when she showed them her idea and they realized she was almost eighteen.
"I'm about five-five give or take an inch. uhm have you seen morgan? I have yet to meet a guy who could actually meet him and not run. I'm also a womanizer....I've been told I'm emotionally unavailable. Though im pretty sure im just scared of commitment...are those the same thing? I don't know." She said shrugging her shoulders, she could care less. She got laid and that was all that counts. Though she was sure it would be even harder than before now that she had all three boys in her life.
Post by Corey Spencer on Jul 10, 2015 1:26:36 GMT -6
"Uh, no." Came the quick reply. There wasn't a damn thing on the planet that would make Corey even attempt an internet 'thing'. Face to face 'things' rarely had worked in the past he could only imagine what sort of disaster online dating would lead to. He had enough on his plate without worrying about another person in his life. His two younger brothers and baby sister were more than enough to fill his time. He certainly wasn't lonely with all four of them living under the same roof now. "To be honest, I'm not looking." That wasn't to say he was totally off the market, as it were, but Corey didn't hold finding a romantic partner as a high priority. "But if I have any questions, I'll be sure to come to you first." Even if that felt strange for a decade-plus US Army veteran to say to a seventeen year old girl.
"Stay young while you can." Corey advised with a light chuckle. He understood the youthful desire to be older, though in hindsight, there were so few of them able to enjoy their younger years. None of the Spencer brothers had really gotten that chance. Jaylin, while having still been subjected to their father's abuse, had been given something none of her elder siblings had: A chance to be a teenager. "One day you'll wake up and realize you slept through your late twenties and are now in your thirties wondering where the time went." He spoke lightly, however, not feeling it his place to hand down anything other than casual, lighthearted bits of wisdom at this point. Despite being brother and sister, the two of them hardly knew one another.
A brow then quirked comically upward as Jaylin continued. Corey could scarcely believe the words coming from his teenage sister's mouth. A womanizer? Emotionally unavailable? "Again, you're seventeen." Corey pointed out with a chuckle and a shake of his head. "You damn well better be emotionally detached and not looking to commit." So long as she didn't end up a teenage mother, Corey would be happy. The last thing they needed was to continue the family tradition of pushing out babies when they were way too damn young. "Now they have me to go through if they manage to get past Morgan." A thin smirk touched his lips as he looked at his baby sister. For all intents and purposes she may have been the safest young girl at the Academy.
Post by Jaylin Spencer on Jul 10, 2015 9:44:45 GMT -6
Jaylin snorted as she took another sip of her milkshake. "I said that very thing when I started the Academy. There's so many good looking people there it's impossible to stick to that. I'm pretty sure it's a rule, that in order to be a mutant you have to be really hot by default." She said shaking her head at her slight joke. THe fact that her brother wasn't looking made her want to set him up even more. It would be way easier on her too, her brother way to busy with his own personal life to notice the boys and girls she was constantly flirting with or pushing away from her. It wasn't that she didn't want a committed relationship she was just not ready for those type of emotions. She was very much scared she'd find herself in a incredibly toxic relationship. She had read a book in the library and it stated that sometimes children who were subject or witness abused ended up in very similar relationships. She didn't need that kind of trouble if she was being honest.
"Oh I intend to enjoy my years as a youth, but it's hard to go to teen club night, or see an R rated movie when people think you're twelve. I'm sure that itll make me feel awesome when i'm older than I am now but at the moment it's stopping me from actually enjoying teenager rite of passages unless I remember my ID." She said shrugging her shoulders and running a hand through her hair which was almost always out and straight or out and curly.
Jayling laughed and shook her head lightly "Don't worry, I plan on it. I'm thinking about being an Astrophysicist or a Bodyguard, probably an Astrophysicists. I know I could possibly have a good thing in sports but Woman sports aren't exactly as high paying as Men sports." She had no wish to get knocked up and get more serious than she already was. It was hard enough sticking to her strict routine to keep her power in check. Imagine if she had to do that and raise a kid, she would pass.
