Shuffling awkwardly, Luxanna's hand tightened its grip around the collar of her shirt as she glanced about the various people sitting around the cafeteria. Sadly, she didn't see anyone she really knew, and most of the tables seemed to be heavily occupied, save for one, where a girl with dark eyes and piercing eyes sat. She looked absolutely terrifying, but Lux supposed she was hardly one to judge anyone based on looks. Just the simple thought had the green eyed brunette scolding herself.
Taking a deep breath, the adapter made her way towards the table where the girl was sitting. At first, she simply stood there, awkwardly staring at the girl as she attempted to figure out exactly what she'd ought to be saying in a situation like this; god, sometimes she wished she was better at communicating.
Clearing her throat then, Lux lowered her gaze. Staring at her feet, she spoke with a soft, but meek voice. "Uhm." She lowered her hand a and took a deep breath. She could feel the crimson blush spread over her cheeks and ears, making her face feel like it was being lit up by the glaring sun. "I-uh, do you--uhm, would you mind--I mean, is this spot free?" she asked, gesturing towards an empty chair opposite of the girl. "If not, then that's okay-- I mean, I don't want to intrude or anything." She looked back up again, offering the girl something of an awkward smile

She'd been staring across the room intently. But it wasn't as if she was staring daggers at anyone in particular. There was a water fountain and she was trying to get it to do her bidding. No such luck, and that frustrated her further. Then she heard a voice and turned to look at the voice. And the water bottle on Olivia's tray exploded towards the girl. Moving her head to look at the girl had made her energy disperse that way too. Olivia's eyes immediately showed both shock and horror.
"Oh no! I'm so sorry!" She sighed and hung her head slightly.

The sudden burst of water had Luxanna's power kicking in. Before the girl could even react herself and step away, her ability caused her skin to harden into a grey-like color, making the water bounce off of her as if it hadn't hit her at all. Wincing at the sudden change, Luxanna's hand reached out for one of the chairs, gripping onto the back of it, her hand tying into a fist. And then, her skin turned back to normal. Wheezing, the brunette's eyes turned wide as she looked over at the other girl.
There was a throbbing ache spreading over her skin, as if she was sunburnt, and then the nausea. God, the nausea.
Taking a few deep breaths to calm herself down, Luxanna's gaze lowered towards the floor before her eyes fluttered closed. You're okay. You're okay. Deep breaths. Deeep breaths. "Don't uhm," she began, taking another deep breath. Holding it, she counted to ten before releasing. "I'm okay. Don't worry." She waved her hand as she forced a smile on. "Sorry, I uhm... My power." She looked up at the girl, offering her an apologetic smile.

Olivia just sat there blinking as she saw the girl's power come out. It was incredibly cool, but she could also see it caused the other girl pain.
"Sit down. Please. If you're not already ticked at me, please sit down." Then the girl was on the floor and Olivia's face took on a horrified look as she got out of her chair and crouched beside the girl.
"I'm so sorry. I was trying to focus my powers and...when you startled me, it meant all that focus was directed at you. I didn't mean to make you hurt, even indirectly." Her face was the picture of guilt.

Shaking her head, Luxanna focused on her breathing, trying her best to calm down. She didn't want the girl to feel as if it was her fault. Holding her breath for a moment, Lux closed her eyes. Slowly releasing her breath then, Lux's green eyes moved towards the girl and she offered her a meek smile. "No, really, it's okay," she pressed, shaking her head.
"I uhm, my power," she waved her hand. "Reactive adaption. It uhm," she shook her head. "It's not something can be turned off, and it reacts whenever it pleases." She offered the girl an awkward smile before sighing. She slowly started feeling a lot calmer. "It has some nasty side-effects is all, and well..."
The last thing Lux wanted was for the girl to feel guilty about something that was clearly out of her control.
"You didn't know. I can't blame you for that. Especially as I seem to have just as little lack of control over my own power.." She flushed slightly as she offered the girl a genuine smile. No, this wasn't the girl's fault at all.
Post by Olivia Chance on Apr 26, 2015 2:55:38 GMT -6
"Yeah but...I can afford my lack of control." This kind of gave her a new view on things.
"I mean...I hate not being able to control my power, but the only side effects I get from using it are really headaches and the occasional nosebleed. Yours...does this. And to have helped trigger your power when it has such an effect on you...I feel really bad. It doesn't matter what you say. I'll still feel bad about it." And giving away a donut wasn't going to cut it. She sighed.
"Is there anything I can do to help?"

Offering the brunette girl a sigh, Lux's head shook faintly. She could understand the guilt she was feeling, because if the roles had been reversed, Luxanna would have felt exactly the same. Rubbing her temples, Lux's hand went to the back of the chair as she pushed herself up. Swaying slightly, she took another deep breath.
She was fine. This wasn't the worst episode she had been through. No, this was hardly bad. Bad was when it got sent her to the infirmary.
"No," she said, shaking her head. "It'll pass soon," she added as she offered the girl another smile. "Sorry about all of this." Her cheeks flushed slightly as her gaze dropped to the floor. "And really, uhm, you don't have to worry. I'm fine." Really, she was.
Really, Lux didn't like being the center of attention, and she really didn't like people worrying about her. It was part of why she hadn't even talked about her ability for so long.

"You're really fine? Are you sure?" Olivia looked at her skeptically. Then she noticed the other girl's awkwardness.
"I'm making you feel uncomfortable. Bad habit. Okay. I won't say anything more. I'm also insanely curious about your power, but I won't ask about that either I guess. Just...I can't help but worry about people. It's in my nature."

"Yeah," she replied, offering the girl another smile. She felt flushed and weird, but in terms of her power, it was nothing she wasn't used to. This was just another daily struggle the green eyed brunette had to deal with. In terms of what could have happened, this was nothing. Nothing at all.
A sigh of relief fell from Luxanna's lips when the other girl announced that she would stop asking if she was okay; Luxanna didn't necessarily enjoy being coddled, which was ironic considering how her best friend was Jack McCarthy, the master coddler.
However, in terms of her ability, Luxanna didn't mind questions. "I don't mind, uhm..." she trailed off, her brows furrowing. "If you want to, ah, ask..."

Her curiosity was telling her to green light this crap and ask questions about the ability. But this wasn't like the time she'd met Alice Hobbs and Alice had volunteered to answer questions about her wings. Alice's wings didn't really hurt her. This girl's ability obviously did. And Olivia knew that things that hurt you might be best to stay away from.
"No. I don't want to push or anything. Or make you uncomfortable. I have a bad habit of asking questions like a kid researching a science project. Your abilities obviously hurt you. I'm sure you have plenty of people you know better to talk about your abilities with. Instead..." She extended a small tupperware container.
"Want a donut? I found this great place in Kalispell that I can't help but keep going back to."

Well, at least she'd offered. Lux wasn't going to stand here and argue about the fact. She'd told the girl she didn't mind, so really, she could take it from there however she pleased. It wasn't like Lux's power was some huge secret, and it wasn't as if she was oblivious to the way it rendered her. "Okay," she replied, shrugging faintly.
The girl then offered her donuts which had Lux's head shaking faintly, before smiling. "No, thank you," she spoke, her voice meek. She didn't think she could stomach food right now, least of all donuts.
But the offer was still appreciated. "Uhm, I'm ah, Lux."

She heard the other girl's answer to the donuts and shrugged before Olivia took one for herself. Then the girl introduced herself. What was with Olivia meeting people who were hesitant to say anything, even their own names? She smiled warmly.
"Hi. Sorry about the initial impression. I'm Olivia. Chance. Just to distinguish from my room-mate." She chuckled before taking a bite of the donut.
"I've been studying powers for a while to try to help myself get better control. I might go into the field when I graduate. But that won't be a while yet. I have a bit of catching up to do since I missed about three years. Luckily I was actually ahead a grade so I'm not quite as behind as all that. But anyways...good to meet other students. I haven't really met too many even though I've been here a while."

"Your roommate is named Olivia too? Boy, that must get confusing," Luxanna chuckled softly. She had never met someone who shared her own name, but then again, her name was a little more unusual. If she remembered correctly, her mother had picked it from some kind of mythology. Lux meant light, so she supposed it was fitting in a way, what with her being... Well, she wasn't particularly dark.
Nodding at the piece of information the girl offered, Luxanna was actually amazed at how easily the girl offered it. Lux hadn't even asked, and here the girl was, talking on and on about herself.
She supposed it was better than silence though.
"Really?" she asked, still nodding. "That sounds cool-- I mean, not that you missed three years but, uhm..." she trailed off, her brows furrowing slightly as she sighed. She obviously wasn't very good at this.

"It isn't that confusing. She hasn't talked to me yet. My room-mates aren't exactly chatty. I had to go into Lucy's room and sit on her bed at one point so that she'd talk to me. I haven't tried the same thing with Olivia because I don't want to DIE." She laughed.
"As for the three years...relax. I'm used to it by now. I'm catching up nicely after all. You certainly don't have to worry for me judging you for being a little awkward. I mean, you've seen how I am. I not only gave you a soaker, but horribly activated your powers. Aw crap I meant not to bring that up again."
