Akeem Saif Ten-Amen
FACE CLAIM: Rami Malek
---------------------------------
AGE: 21
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: heterosexual
POSITION: college student
POWER: Pheromone-Induced Suggestion
Pheromone is a chemical secreted by the body to generate a social response in members of the same species. Aside from the regular pheromones every body makes, Akeem has a special gland in his brain that secretes what you could call super-pheromones that will immediately give a feeling of trust, lust and/or love on the person or persons affected.
Akeem does not secrete them at all times, he has to want it or, in certain circumstances, does so unconsciously. Those circumstances being when he is himself in love and really wants to win the person or when he is very afraid of something in order to make the threat less scary by calming it down.
Once secreted, the pheromones are spread in the air around him in and 2 feet radius. As soon as someone comes into that circle, they will affect them. The proximity to Akeem and time spent in that circle determine how strong this can affect the person. The result depends on what emotion out of the three previously mentioned Akeem decided to release. Trust, for example, will have people believe what he says, no matter what lies he tells them. Lust will make the person want him and do what he asks to get him. Love is more a combination of both, making the person want to touch or be close to Akeem, trust what he says and do what he asks. The effect varies greatly on how receptive the person is. For example, a heterosexual girl is likely to be turned on by him if he sends sexual pheromones her way and will get physical around him but a heterosexual male will not want sex with him. If someone hates him, sending love pheromones might make the person appreciate him more but he will not be able to manipulate them as much.
Because of the trust those pheromones cause on the people affected, they are more open to suggestion. He can then make them believe a lie or do something for him. If the lie is too big or what he asks it too against what the person would normally do, it might not work. It is possible for him however to find a way to make it more acceptable (someone might not want to slap a friend but he can make them believe they were cruel and then they would slap said friend). The pheromones are like a scent people get but they wouldn't be able to tell what it is, only that it is appealing.
LIMITATIONS:
- The effects vary on the person: someone naturally attracted to him will love him whereas someone very antipathetic towards him might simply trust him a little. He can control what he wants them to feel (lust, love, trust) but how strongly they will be affected is out of his control.
- People less affected to pheromones and other chemicals could be immune or at the very least the effects will not be as strong. Empaths and telepaths might be able to sense something wrong in what they are feeling for him and this can cause resistance, allowing them to break from his control faster.
- The scent of those super-pheromones will last about ten minutes once he secreted some. Anyone breathing them during that time can be affected. The effects will generally last between thirty minutes (for those really suggestible and/or already in love with him) to instantly vanish with the pheromones (for those who only felt trust suddenly when they never liked him to begin with). Those who are able to break from his control are not mentioned here as they can recover even though the pheromones are still in the air. For telepaths and empaths however, it will need a constant struggle against them until the scent is gone. After this time period, he will have to secrete more pheromones if he wants the person to still be affected by it. People do not grow used to his pheromones and no longer affected after a time.
- Cannot control where those pheromones go. They surround him and anyone who catches a scent can be affected. Those closest to him will obviously be affected more while those at the extremity of it, about 2 feet radius, might just like him a little, enough to trust his words but not enough for him to make them do something against their moral compass.
- Affects only human beings.
- Lust can only work on people who could naturally feel lust for a guy, regardless of the look. Others might like him, be nicer to him, but they will never want to put him in their bed.
- Is not immune to any form of pheromone manipulation/mind control.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- Mental fatigue when using his power repeatedly.
- He can also have some chemical imbalance when using his power often as his body works more on the pheromones than the rest. This can lead in loss of appetite, apathy or even mood swings.
- As he has no control on people’s reaction to those pheromones, he often has to deal with excessive reactions from them.
- Akeem is naturally suspicious of any feelings of love from people as it could be coming from him.
“Pheromone-induced suggestion?”
A laugh came from the young man sitting on the chair in front of the older man. With his baby face, it was hard to tell exactly how old he was. His green bug eyes were staring straight at the older man. Clearly, he was seeing him as an equal or someone under him, not above. “Weird name uh? This of it like a succubus touch. Or an incubus I suppose, since I’m a guy.” Akeem waited but there was no reply to this. He shrugged, avoiding the man’s gaze. “You have my parents to thank for that. My father is Rachid Ten-Amen, the renowned cook. He can manipulate pheromones. You ever watched that old movie with Sarah Michelle Gellar where whatever she’s feeling when cooking, people who eat it feel it too? He can do something like that. He’s still a great cook, but how do you think he got his stars? He doesn’t do that all the time, mind you. Only for critics and when big celebrities come to his restaurant.” The young man played a hand in his thick dark hair but showed no remorse in what his father could be doing with his power.
“You said “my parents”. What does your mother do?”
Akeem shrugged, dismissing it. “She has some sort of mind control. When she locks her gaze into yours it’s like she can talk straight to your brain when she tells you to do something and that makes you do it. Not any thing, but, like, she can make you take out the trash even if you don’t want or turn around when you want to fight.” Another shrug. Something made this more complicated to say. “She’s going crazy about it. She can’t stop thinking that people are around her and doing things for her because she wants them to. But when you’re not, she makes you. See the irony?” If he did, he didn't show it and that had Akeem sighed out of frustration a little. “Anyway. My sister’s got the same ability. She was here too, a couple of years ago. Aisha. Now she stays with our mother.” He scoffed. “If she wants to take care of Helen when she’s having one of her episodes, it’s her problem.”
“You don’t seem to like your mother much.”
Akeem bit his full lips and shifted on his seat. “It’s not that I don’t like her. I just can’t love her. I want to, but then she does something and I... it disgusts me. I can’t help it, it just does. I think I could have loved her more if she were not my mother. I don’t think she was fit to be a mother.” The silence got so thick between the two of them. Akeem didn’t want to talk of this anymore.
“You don’t seem to see anything wrong in what your father is doing. You’ve ever used your power on people? To raise your grades or get a girl to date you perhaps?”
Akeem smirked. Suddenly, the baby face of his that made him look so innocent vanished and show that this boy was not as innocent as you might think. “Why you ask? You think I’m not pretty enough to get a girl on my own?”
“That’s not what I meant.”
“That’s exactly what you meant,” he retorted. He didn’t look insulted though. Merely amused. “Is it because of the way I look that you think the worst of me? I’ll have you know that my father may be Egyptian but we were all born in America. As for my mother, she's blonde with green eyes like the one I have. Not very scary. And we’re atheists.” The other man had a brief nod but he was still expecting an answer from the boy. He knew his silence would make Akeem’s loud mouth want to talk at some point. “You want to talk of the reason I was kicked out of law school, is that it? That’s what your question really was about? Yes, I love using my power to get what I want. What’s the point of having a power if you never use it? And I don’t regret it. I just regret that there was a mutant as one of my teachers who found out.”
“You were ready to use it when you were a lawyer? To win, no matter the cost? No matter who you’d let out free?”
Akeem sighed again. This meeting was taking forever. He was not going to answer that. They both knew if he was back to Bellefonte it was for an attitude adjustment while he finished college.
“How did you react when your power first manifested?”
He was losing patience. “Don’t you know that already? It’s not like I never attended this school before, I’ve been here since the age of fifteen! And I already promised not to use my abilities to influence on my grades. It’s not like I can do that much here anyway.” The two of them stared at each other. “How much longer does that have to go?”
“You can go for now. But we’re not done.”
“Always a pleasure” Akeem stood up. He looked tiny in the chair but now you could see he was actually six foot tall. He left..
