[SCT]The Night Calls

Beau was in a different room then Devyn on the camping trip, but that didn't mean that was going to be enough to keep her away. Beau was basically one of the few friends she still had, there was Vera but she could not talk to her about certain things. Well, she could but she didn't want to fully. She didn't really want to talk to Beau about them either but she did want to hang out with the guy. The last time they talked she felt like she had been a total ass and she wanted to make it up to him. How? She didn't really know, that came later after she got to him.

It was pretty late at night, and it being winter time it was really dark outside by this point in the night. Most of the people in the cabins were already asleep and Devyn figured that Beau was likely one of those sleeping, but she was not sure. All she was sure of was where his room was and that he was in fact in it. She could smell him, which sounded slightly creepy but with her mutant power it made perfect sense and no one should have thought of it as weird. "Wonder if he will be mad at me at all." Devyn whispered to herself as she snuck around.

She quickly fell silent when she heard someone moving around in their bed as she made her way through the room. She didn't want to wake up everyone, just Beau if he was in fact asleep. She easily moved around the dark room, using her ability to see in the dark and her nose to reach where Beau's bed was. She moved with stealth, creeping up on the side of Beau's bead, and then reaching out to shake him a little. "Psssttt, Beau. Beau you awake?" Devyn asked, whispering. The objective was if he was not awake, to in fact wake him up.

This trip exhausted Beau, on the whole. It especially exhausted him given the little black box he had tucked away, waiting for just the right moment. He spent nearly all his time wondering just how he should set that up and do it just right, though at the same time, he figured that there was just no way that either of them would forget it, so he might as well just do it whenever. Which of course immediately made him think of planning and, yeah.

Which was probably why he was having dreams about weddings and stuff. Dreams that Devyn jerked him out of with her whisper. Beau flailed for a moment, letting out a quick "I do!" before blinking and looking about his room. He could feel a strange sensation crawling over his skin, which meant that another mutant had sneaked into her room... which really didn't lower the potential subjects down all that much.

"alright, who's---" Beau paused to yawn, raising up an arm to essentially cover it, before continuing: "there? I can feel ya an' hear ya an' all," though he highly doubted he was dealing with a burglar or someone who wished him harm: most of those didn't opt to stealthily creep into a room and attempt to gently wake you.

Devyn jumped slightly when Beau jolted awake. He was not the most graceful person when it came to waking up, clearly. Devyn herself was super slow when she was awakened, especially when she was actually asleep. A smirk did slowly spread across her lips at the words that Beau had blurted out when he awakened. That had at least given her some idea as to what kind of dream he was having, well that she assumed he was having. He was a guy after all, he had a girlfriend, and she was currently not in his room so he was to be expected to dream about her.

If I know he was having that kind of dream, I would have awakened him with a kiss. No, that would be a bad thing to do as a friend. Devyn thought deviously before scolding herself. She could not help but to at least think that thought but she knew that she should not act on it. She was here to make things alright between her and Beau...even if trying was scaring her. Her trying seemed to always end up with the other person telling her that they needed space and her not really giving them space. Still, it hurt more to not try then it did to try...kind of.

She tucked away those words Beau said to ask and more than likely bother him about later. For now she hid by the side of Beau's bed, not even sure why she did it but she did. She chuckled a little at Beau's words and how at least like he was not quick to being ready to roll out of bed and do things. Which was a slight problem in this situation, but she would work with it. "Whisper. It's me, Devyn. You busy?" Devyn whispered, reaching out to poke Beau's side as she peeked up from the side of his bed again.

Bleary-eyed, Beau kept blinking at Devyn, still not quite making her out. The chuckle caught his attention and he finally relaxed a little, letting out a deep breath and actually falling back onto the bed. Devyn did worry him slightly, especially given the whole awkwardness around their relationships and whatnot, but she still counted more or less as a friend, a friend whose gender Beau still couldn't quite figure out, but a friend nonetheless.

"Well, was busy sawin' logs, but I reckon I ain't so busy now," he drawled. Beau ran his hand down his face and let out a long breath, letting his lips buzz as he did .He rubbed a bit before looking over at Devyn, still peering, wishing his night vision was better than it was. Too much time spent on stage looking at lights didn't exactly leave Beau with the vision of an owl.

"What you want?" he asked, the question a little abrupt but his tone turning it from being outright rude. He was curious, after all. Late night visits weren't exactly normal, even when they did come from Devyn.

Devyn watched Beau closely, making herself somewhat comfy kneeling next to his bed. It was not like her knees were bad or anything but she knew she would end up outright sitting on the floor or on Beau's bed if he was going to take too long. She was not very good at being patient but since she was slow at getting out of bed she figured she could allow leeway for Beau in that regard. "Don't fall back to sleep." Devyn whispered out, reaching a hand out to try and poke him in his side. When a person laid back down you had to always be ready for them to fall back to sleep and she didn't want that.

"Sawing logs...that country for dreaming or are you being sarcastic?" Devyn asked, not getting the expression. She really needed to watch like Duck Dynasty or read a book to get a better understanding of Beau speak. She could see how he was straining to see her in the dark, possibly not help by the fact that she was wearing dark clothing and was kind of hiding in the shadow of Beau's bed. Shadows were a part of her after all, so she tended to dress and hang out in dark places. She almost suggested tapping into her power since she did have night vision.

Devyn however, was not sure if Beau could take only parts of someone’s power or if he ended up with the whole thing all together. So she didn't say anything, not wanting him to shift into a shadow wolf. There was the question and because it was abrupt made Devyn look away a little, feeling bad that she was bothering him. Yet it was being said by Beau and his tone didn't really convey any ill will behind it. "I was kind of hoping you would be up for a late night walk with me out in the snow. Maybe scrounge up some hot chocolate and chill out near a fire place." Devyn said, feeling slightly odd. She felt like what she was asking for was something more so you asked someone you were going out with.

She knew that it was probably because that was normally what she did with whoever she was dating when she went on these trips. She wanted to do it with Beau, but as friends and didn't plan on pulling him close to snuggle or anything like that. Devyn just...wanted someone to hang out with late at night.

"It's kinda a long-standin' term for sleeping there, Dev," replied Beau dryly. He rubbed at his face, taking a few more breaths. This was why he didn't generally like making friends with night owls. True, he'd gotten more and more used to staying up late, seeing as most of his gigs happened at night and in bars and all, but that didn't mean he particularly liked it.

Beau pulled his hand away, taking another deep breath. He could feel shadows moving around him and whatnot, so he figured he should probably calm down and make sure they don't attack him. He opened them to look at Devyn as she continued speaking, chuckling a little as she continued.

"An' ya didn't think of jus' sendin' a text or givin' me a ring or anythin'?" he asked. Beau took another breath and this time twisted, pulling his phone off the charger and looking at it. Didn't seem too late. "There's some hot chocolate near the fire place an' all. One of the adults tried to do some kinda party with it or somethin'," offered Beau. He took another breath and shifted some sheets. He paused to look at Devyn. "Yer gonna have to give me some space an' time to get changed though, seein' as I ain't exactly dressed for public viewin'."

"Ah, well it’s a new to me." Devyn admitted, again telling herself she needed to look up some more Beau lingo. Or maybe it was not Beau lingo so she just needed to learn these other terms that were out there that someone like Beau would likely use. Devyn could not really sleep at this hour, she did manage to get a few hour sin but in general she was out and about at this hour. It helped when she had someone in bed with her, because then she would likely just cuddle in with them and wait until she feel asleep again or would get up to get something to eat and then try sleep again. It was also because she was a creature of the night that she often took taps during the day time.

Maybe that was why people kept relating her to a cat, even if she didn't like the creatures. She waited for him, sitting at the edge of his bed and planning on making sure that he did not fall back to sleep. She crept in here after all and did not want that effort to be wasted by having to leave without having someone to drag out and about with her for a little bit until sleep would come back to her. "I'm not really good with the whole using my phone. Typically text or calls are from my mom, from someone who wants sex or a favor, and someone yelling or being angry at me for something." Devyn admitted. So yeah, she didn't really bother to use her phone that much but it was always on her.

"Awesome. Want to walk first so we actually get cold enough to drink it and chill by the fire, or go right to that?" Devyn asked. She wanted to get outside to feel the cold night air, but she was bothering Beau and felt like she should at least give him some choice on the matter. A smile took over her face as Beau moved to get up, but then her head tilted in confusion for a moment before she started to smirk. "What, do you sleep naked Beau? It would not be something I have not seen before." Devyn teased, but she did stand up and backed off, even turned her back to him. Did he expect her to leave the room?

Beau was half tempted to jibe about the whole cell phone thing. Not that he didn't believe Devyn: that sounded very much like precisely what she'd use a cell phone for. He just couldn't believe that was it, and he also didn't think it was a good excuse to not call or text somebody. For now though, he just worked at rubbing the last bits of sleep out of eyes, actively working them.

Go take a walk first? Why was Devyn this antsy anyway? Didn't she realize they'd probably be skiing or something in the morning? That had been Beau's original plan, but he figured he could put Devyn first and all. "Sounds like a plan to me," he just agreed, fighting another yawn. He slid his lower half so he sat on the bed and then looked up at Devyn.

"Hey there, you're the one that decided to go an' barge into my room an' make demands an' all," he pointed out. He gestured toward the door. "So go on an' get out. I'll bundle up an' meet ya outside in a bit." he rubbed at his eyes again, before looking around, trying to recall where he'd left all his clothes.

It was true that Devyn used her phone for much else. Sure there a few times where she could get a text or a call from a friend, but that was rare. She rarely even called or text her friends either, figuring that they had their own lives to deal with. That was why she would just show up to talk and hang out with them. They still had a choice to send her away if they were busy but at least she was making a real effort to be a part of their lives. Sometimes it felt like she was the only one that ever was making and effort. Damn it, why can't I just move on?! Devyn thought to herself, so full of anger and just pity at how she was being so pathetic.

She hated being the only one still stuck and caring about someone who didn't want her in the slightest in their life. She had to just focus on the day, one the moment with those who seemed to be fine dealing with her. Like Beau, he was cool. Even if he had the whole perfect life and scored the girl of his dreams who he would be like the ideal couple back years ago that ends up married for like thirty years or something. "Awesome. Sorry again for well showing up. I take rejection more seriously when it’s said to my face then I do over text." Devyn said. It was true since it was hard to understand feelings in a text message or writing in general.

He still seemed sleepy, but at least he was moving and that hand Devyn practically ready to go running and dragging him off with her. "It's kind of what I do." Devyn admitted, chuckling a little. Yet she did look down towards the ground, another apology there but she was not going to say it. She hated saying sorry too many times now, especially when she was not all that sorry in this situation. "Fine, just...don't take too long." Devyn said as she headed out of his room. She would wait literally right outside his door then after closing it behind her. Devyn took a position of leaning against the wall next to his door while she waited.

Beau kept his tired gaze on Devyn, again wondering if he'd done something that would indicate that he should totally be roused like this. He supposed he had essentially extended the offer for Devyn to come see him whenever she wanted. Didn't mean he had to particularly like it when she showed up like this. Still, he could easily wave away her comment about rejection, treating the whole thing as the very minor inconvenience it happened to be.

He did need his pants though. So he stopped yawning long enough to keep giving Devyn that steely gaze. She got it after a bit, finally leaving. Beau wisely didn't elect to waste much time, sliding a pair of ragged old jeans on over his sleeping clothes. A hooded sweatshirt his parents gave him could go over top. Then just put on a pair of mismatched socks, grab, the coat, and head out.

"Alright, I'm up an' dressed now," he said as he walked into the main room of the cabin. "Jus' gotta slide my boots on if we're goin' walkin' outside," he headed over to where they were, doing precisely that, all while looking over. "Kinda reckoned you'd be slinkin' 'round doin' an imitation of a predator or somethin' 'bout now," he said, nodding, "'stead of botherin' me," once Beau got the boots on, he'd be ready to follow Devyn wherever it was she wanted to go.

Beau did tell her that they could hang out and something about if she needed something that she could go to him for it. At least she was pretty sure he had said something like that but she didn’t really remember all that happened when they went to the bar with one another. She did know that she had been less than a good friend when he was just trying to help her out and let her know what was going on with Zoe. How the girl had moved on and Devyn had already looked into the matter.

Zoe’s new girl was sexy and Devyn even heard her power caused Zoe’s power to not work on her. They were perfect together and Devyn had a feeling that they would go all the way. She should have been happy for that but it still upset her that Zoe had said that entire she did and that in the end it meant nothing. Zoe moved on and Devyn was still lingering over it months later. It not that I need her in my life to be happy again…I just need something. Devyn thought to herself while she waited out Beau’s room for him to get ready.

“Dressed up warm enough?” Devyn asked when Beau came out of his room and said that he was all dressed. He just needed to put on boots since they would be going outside, but Devyn didn’t plan on keeping Beau out there long. She didn’t know how long Beau could handle being out in the cold, let alone the nighttime cold. “I won’t ask you to stay outside long and I was already in predator mode earlier when I snuck over here.” Devyn said, chuckling a little. She was patient for Beau to get his boots on before she moved to lead the way outside. The cold wind immediately came to meet them when the door was opened with them stepping outside.

“So, how have you been since the last time we talked?” Devyn asked, wanting to get to the basic small talk while they walked. That and she did want to know how Beau was doing, but figured she could guess that Beau was doing pretty good.

Beau nodded, waving Devyn off as he headed to get to his boots. He'd mostly fought off the grog by now, and he could certainly get the boots onto his feet more or less. He'd be a poor Southerner if he couldn't put boots on in his sleep anyway, and Beau was most definitely not a poor Southerner by any stretch of the imagination.

He could even listen while putting on his boots, which he put into practice now, even chuckling as Devyn mentioned predator mode. "You do realize how very creepy it sounds whenever you talk about bein' all predator an' all?" he asked, raising a brow and looking at Devyn for a moment. He did so with a smile, and then added a shake of the head, finishing up with his boots. He had to pause and tug at things, get everything together, but soon enough he was following Devyn right outside.

And right into the conversation, it seemed: "Been doin' pretty good," he said, nodding. "Things goin' well with Liz an' all. Reckon I'll be doin' somethin' with IMAC when it comes down to it too. Got some big plans comin' up," which he didn't figure he'd share with Devyn. He waited, looking over at her, considering. "You seem to be doin' better. Things gettin' along alright on your end?"

"Eh, a little bit. I have been doing it since i was fourteen years old so I'm used to it. That and I used to be all sneaky and animalistic as a kid too...so I guess you could say I have been like this all my life." Devyn said as she gave a small shrug. She could recall that before she never really got along with real animals, she sometimes let out growls, and she greatly enjoyed the night and physical activity. Some at the school explained it as a hit that she was in fact going to come into her mutant powers. She didn't know and she didn't think too much about those details, it was just who she was.

"Don't have anything that you do that sounds creepy if you say it out loud?" Devyn asked, curious if Beau had any ticks or behaved a certain way sometimes. He did seem like such the normal mutant and that might have been the fact that his power was to copy others powers. So one could argue that he himself didn't actually have a power, he stole others powers. Still, she liked herself for the way she was...a little bit and even if she saw Beau as that 'perfect boy' she still liked him. They were moving along, and Beau was moving right into the conversation after she asked a question.

"That’s food to hear. I think i would have a heart attack if the two of you were not doing so well." Devyn said as she chuckled a little. She would not have had a heart attack but she knew that if Beau could not find happiness then there would never be any hope for herself at finding it again. "What do you mean do something?" Devyn asked, not completely sure what he meant by that. She could guess, and felt like she was going to be right based on the dream Beau must have been having, but she didn't want to just blurt it out right away. The subject was something that was...an odd one for Devyn.

"I'm actually about the same. I'm just getting better at acting like everything is okay, but you don't need to worry about me. Like I said before, I'll get better at some point. It's just taking a little bit longer this time around." Devyn said as she shrugged her shoulders a little. She didn't want the conversation to be on her, she felt like that was all Beau ever had to hear when he was around her. She didn't want him to think she only wanted to be around him to talk about her problems or something. "How do you like the trip so far?" Devyn asked, having to search for a topic for a moment.

Beau didn't know whether to be impressed or saddened by Devyn's admission that she'd been sneaky and animalistic since she was a child. That sounded like a pretty sad childhood to Beau, though he wasn't about to go around admitting that to Devyn, who always struck him as being a bit on an edge as it was. As for stuff he did that sounded creepy: "Well, yeah, reckon everyone does an' all. I jus' put mine in songs an' then they sound all sweet an' all," Beau replied, adding another little wink.

They'd made it outside now, and the cold nearly made Beau wince. He'd gotten somewhat used to it, though sometimes he liked to joke that the swamp water in his veins just froze in weather like this. Bundling up helped. Beau had enough motion control to nod along with Devyn's assessments, and then elaborate: "Well, I reckon I'll sign up for one of the events or somethin'. I'm a school athlete after all, on top of bein' on the squad," he added a shrug. He hadn't exactly figured out the details, but he definitely figured he'd be involved in some form or fashion.

Great, Devyn still sounded about the same. Beau nearly winced at that, and again found himself wishing he could do something besides just put Devyn in a song. Something told him that wouldn't be the best solution. she seemed willing enough to change the conversation though, and he figured the least he could do was go along. "Been havin' fun so far. Reckon I'll help out with the Snow Wars, got a few things with Liz planned. Yourself? Figure the Snow Wars would be right up your alley. Am I gonna have to avoid a giant black wolf trompin' all over the battlefield?"

Devyn didn’t see it sad at all that she had been pretty sneaky and animalistic as a kid, she and her dad had a lot of fun. Plus she was pretty sure that if she was not the way she was now as a kid, then she probably would not have survived what her mother put her thought. Being sneaky was great when it came to hunting and playing hide-and-go-seek. While being animalistic made her just prepared in a way, with the largest negative in her opinion at the time was that she was never going to be able to get a puppy. “I feel like that’s cheating.” Devyn said in response to Beau putting his creepy habits into songs and how that made them okay.

She figured that was one way to do it, and thinking about the different kinds of music out there, people did seem to be able to get away with a lot more. Devyn was fine out in the cold, she had always been rather warm as a child and with how her power literally trapped her in darkness, and as a result she had to deal with cold often. Beau went on to explain what he had meant by his words, informing Devyn that he sign up for some events since he was an athlete and on the security squad. “Ah, guess I should participate as well then. Pretty sure I’m like on the little version of your Security Squad and I do love my physical activity.” Devyn said as she gave a few small nods, confirming with herself that she was going to do it.

Devyn didn’t want Beau to feel bad for her; he didn’t need to worry about her. She would figure it all out eventually; it was just taking a lot longer than it should have because of a verity of reasons. Just how it all played out and the effort that had been put in just caused the end result to hit her really hard and linger as it was now. “Oh nice, got something romantic in mind or are you thinking more so silly fun with Liz?” Devyn asked, but she had a feeling it would be more on the romantic side. The question was turned back on her, with Beau asking if he was going to have to worry about a large black wolf running across the snow.

In her head that seemed like a beautiful site but to other that probably would have been terrifying on some levels. “I was planning on staying on the slopes. I might through snowballs because of pint up aggression and I’m pretty sure even if I was just playing in my other form, the school would not be that pleased to see me running around using my power. Might end up getting sent away if I’m not careful.” Devyn said with a small chuckle at the end. She slid her hands into her pockets as she walked, blowing air out of her mouth to see the white smoke, and now craving a cigarette. “Are you planning on staying two or four years in college at BA?” Devyn could not help to ask, wondering how long Beau was going to stick around.
