Whoever was behind setting up who went into which room, must have forgotten what Devyn's mutation was and her tendencies. She never really got along with actual animals; they all tended to fear her or were unsure of how to react to her. It was probably just the way she carried herself, that animalistic aura that she gave off. Or something like that, she was not sure of the details and didn't really think too much on it. All she knew was that she and real animals didn't get along, so why was there a cat in the room?
She heard rumors that there was a member of the staff that was stuck using his mutation, but she never thought it was true. How lame was it if an adult got stuck using their power, it didn't really show a good role model for having power control. She didn't know the details of this 'cat's' power, but she knew that they were a cat. A cat that looked like a cat, acted like a cat, and even smelled like a cat. On top of that, it was one of her roommates and apparently a part of the Security staff. Perhaps that was why it was in the room with her in the first place, to keep an eye on her.
It would not have to keep that close of an eye on her because Devyn was going to be watching the cat pretty much every second she was in the room with it. How could she not stare at it? She just felt this powerful urge to just grab a hold of the feline, but she didn't know what she wanted to do after that. She didn't want to bark at it; barking was not her thing, but she did start to let out a low growl as she started at the feline.
In Humphries' estimation, he should have been housed with the headmistresses, or potentially with some other adult chaperones. Surely there had to be a handful along for the ride, though Humphries certainly wanted to avoid Miss Hope Legrange. That woman unnerved and annoyed him to quite a great degree, but Humphries didn't want to think about it.
Miss Solway wasn't much better. She appeared to be some kind of dog or wolf or some other dirty, filthy animal shifter, and for some reason, she seemed to spend quite a bit of time studying him. Humphries took notice of her, but he mostly ignored her. He walked through heading to his room.
Then the girl started growling at her. Humphries shifted and looked up at her. His eyes narrowed and he twisted, sending a message to the girl's cell phone:
do not be doing the attack or things will not be doing very goodly for you

Humphries finally gave her some level of attention now that she was growling at him. The feline having all but ignored her for the most part while she had been watching him for the most part. It was just hard to wrap her mind around a cat being staff and a staff member that was stuck being a cat. It seemed so weak and she wanted to crush that weakness. Perhaps because he was an animal who was like he was now because he lost control over his power and that happened from her from time to time. Lucky for everyone else she had not gotten stuck in her other form and would not be stuck in it forever even if she did get stuck.
Either way, she was just angry at the cat. Didn't understand the anger, but it was there and directed at the feline. She felt her cell phone buzz in her pocket and normally she would ignore it, not really well with her phone anymore. She didn't have a need to be now that she was back to being...well trying to be her old self so she could stop feeling so much. Plus she recalled that was how the cat was able to communicate with people. So she pulled out her phone and read the text, chuckling a little at the word choice.
She figured the system they had the cat using still needed some work done to it. Unless that was how the cat really talked. "Is that a warning kitty? Going to claw my eyes out if I do something?" Devyn asked, as challenging tone in her voice. She rose to her feet and started to move closer towards the cat. She already pulled at the shadows around her a little, causing them to stretch out and reach for her, wanting to become one.
Why was it that Humphries kept running into students that refused to show his authority any respect? They did realize his position, yes? How he was in a place of employment over him and how his opinion and actions could have quite lasting consequences for them. He could, theoretically mind, even go so far as to plant evidence on someone. If he pretended to be a kitten hard enough, nobody would even suspect that he'd planted it.
But no, instead he got threats, often from those that had some sort of canine mutation, but they were wider than that. Humphries let a low growl began to build from deep within, a primal noise that he didn't often unleash, mostly because he knew he could inspire for more fear and respect via acting as human as he possibly could. Even as he growled, he twisted his tail and undulated ever so slightly, just enough.
physical harming can be done. more harm will be done in reporting you, DEVYN SOLWAY. particular to headmistresses who will take away privileges Humphries paused for a moment, thinking hard... and remembering something. He backed away and looked almost smug, wiggling slightly to send another message: you have final striking to go. then major punishing will be doing the happening.

Devyn normally was pretty good at showing respect to those who were authority figures in her life, but this was a cat. It was one thing to be able to show respect for that adults around her that looked human, but she could not fully bring herself to respect a cat. A cat who; again was a mutant who no longer had control over his power, and was stuck as a cat and had to communicate via text messages. Perhaps if she got to know the feline better she would gave have been more inclined to respect him. As of now, she just saw him as a weak cat that somehow landed the spot of Security Staff.
The low growl that Humphries let out just caused Devyn to growl out louder in response. Her eyes narrowing as she glared at the cat. She even made sure to pull at Humphries very own shadow to use as her own and then use it against him. She didn’t really fear much, especially other animals. Her fears resided more in the medical area of life. Yet none of that matter as she was tempted to go all out with her power instead of just messing with the shadows and growling for intimidation. The buzzing in her pocket caused her to let out a sigh but she moved to check her phone. It was a pain communicating this way and part of her wished that she could like talk to animals or something.
The growling stopped along with the movement of the shadows as she read over the text. The cat did have a point, that a report on her would be worse than physical harm. That was why she was going for the whole physical harm sort of thing. She didn’t like the little threat about her privileges being taken away, but at the same time didn’t care. She was on the trip and had enjoyed herself a little bit already and didn’t really care if they sent her home or whatever. The next text however did make her pause, wondering what else the school had planned for someone pretty much on their last strikes.
Would they send her away? Lock her up? Just make her do more community service? She was already on the whole Security Squad, feeling like it was more of a way to watch her instead of giving her a good outlet. “Like what?” Devyn challenged, calling the bluff. Even if she pretty much knew that there was truth behind the words.
Like what? Did the foolish girl really need specifics? Humphries nearly let out a snort, or the closest approximation that a feline could manage. He certainly adjusted himself slightly, managing to look as haughty as ever. He did have to twist slightly to actually get his device to send the next few lines, but he managed to do that with the minimum amount of movement possible:
collaring student approval by headmistress. perhaps next personage being you? failing this option, there is always extreme supervision. liking having personage loomed over shoulder? heard gossip might be doing the imprisonment, but seems unlikely, save for extreme
Humphries then bent down and gave his paw a lick, before looking up into Devyn's eyes. The cat wasn't bluffing: he had no qualms about reporting her, and he would, if necessary, insist that she be punished in the strictest way possible. They couldn't technically expel a student, but they could force one to transfer to another school. Even Humphries didn't want to think about the more extreme measures that had been taken in the past. He just knew they were possible, and that possibility gave him enough confidence to stare down the wolf.

Yes, Devyn wanted to hear specifics to what could happen if she decided to attack Humphries, hell if she made one more mistake. She wanted to know what the school was going to do to someone like her, and perhaps it would be her escape. Not that she really wanted to leave Bellefonte, but why was she staying here? Yes, she had her friends and the people she cared about but there was just so much pain here. She could not end it herself, she didn't have to stones for that surprisingly, and feared if there was an afterlife. So having an out that would be forced upon her by the school, was that the way?
She looked down at her phone when it buzzed, squinting at the words as she tried to make them out. Damn she wished she had a large vocabulary or that this text thing actually made a bit more sense because she did not fully understand some of the words that were used. Not that she was going to give it away or anything. She just scratched at her head a little and did her best to figure out what was being said. She got the general message of what he was trying to communicate, she hoped. "Would they really put a collar on me? Like some kind of shock collar or tracking collar? Either way that would be kind of hot. Will some sexy girl or some buff hot guy walk me around?" Devyn asked as she started to smirk at the mental image.
At the other punishment, she shrugged her shoulders, not really caring if someone was watching her. She had someone do that with her and Zoe and herself for a little. Other then it being annoying it was not something that she was going to die over and it was sometimes easy enough to lose them or get rid of them. Even more so when she would pretend like she was going to do something risky with them around, then they tended to avert their eyes. "Being watched is no big deal. As for being locked up...wonder how that would go." Devyn said, taking another step towards Humphries.
She was pushing it, seeing how far she could go to get this cat to move from his spot. Like a game of chicken with well more at stake for her then him.
Would they really put a collar? Humphries shifted his position and closed his eyes for a moment, looking quite content and as though he fully believed that at the slight hint they would certainly do it. In truth, the feline highly doubted that they'd go about collaring students. Perhaps one or two of the greatest troublemakers (Jack McCarthy came to mind), but it was highly unlikely that they'd implement that on a wider range.
They might, however, do so if someone proved threatening. Humphries kept his attention focused, still convinced that he had the power here. True, Devyn could potentially do something to his body, but then Humphries would simply receive medical care and have increased power. He was willing to get a little wounded if it advanced him further in the long run. he did already know that he was going to make this girl's life a living hell if she didn't let up soon.
considering this notion: cats do not being seen oftenmuch. knowing the things comes to us natural. hurting of HUMPHRIES or continued threatening will earn feline ire. making the life difficult will happen. this is promised, not excepting the other punishments that coming will be certain. and the cat looked up at Devyn and purred, practically begging her to attack.

Devyn didn’t get a real response to the whole being made to wear a collar and the feline didn’t even seem fazed by her ‘naughty’ words. He was a cat so he probably didn’t care about such things, or if he did it was probably that he was interested in cats. Was that okay? Would that be like Andrew getting it on with an actual dog while shifted? That seemed wrong still, but she decided to not think too much about. It was just too weird and too many question that would follow it and she really didn’t want to deal with such a thing.
Another text caused her phone to buzz. More words that she didn’t understand, well this time it was more so she was having a hard time understanding what the feline was trying to communicate. This whole text system was awful and she hoped some tech mutant worked to fix it or at least implement a voice to it. So that way the thoughts would be changed into spoken world like Steven Hawking had, but then Humphries was going to have to learn to how to type. The basic understanding from what she read was that Humphries himself was going to be the one to make her life not so enjoyable.
“What? Are you the type of person…cat, who would go around going to the bathroom on someone’s belongings?” Devyn asked a smirk there. She thought this cat was supposed to be an adult, but if he did that sort of thing, that would be really immature of him. The rest she sort of got, that she would still get in trouble along with having an angry cat doing well not nice cat things. She supposed that she didn’t really want to have to deal with a cat bothering her, since that would just cause her to get into more trouble with getting into a ‘fights’ with him.
So she took a deep breath and calmed down, she didn’t take a step back, but she did cause the shadows to return back to normal. “Fine, I’ll leave you alone this time but only if you answer a question or two for me.” Devyn said, wanting something out of this exchange if she could not have a little ‘chase the cat’ fun. She knelt down to at least be sort of on the same level of the cat so she could look into his eyes when she talked. She still made sure to sit up to be higher than him, an inner alpha thing. “Do you remember when and why you lost control over being able to shift back?” Devyn asked, the question was actually pretty important to her.
Humphries just purred as Devyn asked if he'd look through possessions. Oh, he most definitely would. He would look through drawers and paw his way through all the most private of possessions if he had to. He'd even make little beds out of it, and/or purposefully leave cat hairs all over any and all articles of clothing, especially those that happened to be black or any other color that would show the hairs all too easily.
So it sounded like he won. The girl took a deep breath and stepped back, which made Humphries alter his position. He shifted his wait, pulling his tail around him and settling in. Fine he could deal with. Humphries did keep his attention on Devyn as she kept going.
When he lost control? Humphries flicked his tail, and if a cat could frown, he would. He moved his head, almost dismissively, working to get the device to send:
not on the accident. had control. chose feline over human. much preferable. which always seemed to surprise people. The truth was that Humphries also couldn't quite remember how far back it had been. he'd been a cat for so long that it just felt like part of his identity at this point.

Devyn really didn't mind her possessions being gone through, it was more of just someone being in her room and going through her things that were the problem. She was extremely territorial, which was made pretty clear by the fact that she would even roll around on certain things that belonged to her friends and why she often saw things as hers and thus made it okay for her to do the things she did. She did understand that sort of thinking did make a few people mad here and there, but honestly they should have found it flattering.
She would have been flattered if Humphries was someone’s who was her age and not some however old dude who liked to get out his cat kinks. That was just what she was assuming anyways by how he was purring and looking well like a stupid smug cat. Oh how it would have been so easy to just punt him across the room or burry him out in the snow. She could even swallow him whole if she was in her other form. Still, she knew she had to at least be good on some level for now. At least until she decided if she wanted to stay at BA. Plus right now she had a question that she wanted answered.
One that the answer she didn't really expect to get and wanted to hear something differently from an adult. Was he not supposed to be encouraging control and well not choosing to let your other half rule you? She could not help but to make a face and let out a small growl while reading the text of Humphries choice. What little respect she had for the cat dropped even more. He had picked to be a cat over a human, going for a shorter life span, and wellbeing a cat. It seemed like such a coward’s way out, to just pick to be a cat for whatever reason over a human.
Then again...that was something that she wanted to do. It would not have been as easy for her to remain in her other form however and go about life as if it were normal. "My urge to fight you is back. Why would you pick to be a stupid cat over a human? Someone hurt your feelings? Was life too hard for you as a human? Here I heard that you just got stuck, but you mean to tell me you picked to be a stupid fu-...damn cat?" Devyn asked. There were so many questions there, each filled with anger towards the feline and herself.
Certainly Devyn was not the first to find Humphries' decision to be abhorrent or cowardly or some other negative emotion, and she most certainly wouldn't be the last. Humphries frankly didn't much care what they thought of him, so long as they respected his position, and he often left them with little choice in that regard. So he simply stared at Devyn while she pointlessly raged, his face as feline and expressionless as ever, his tail twitching only slightly.
most interested your way of looked at things. projected the reality within upon me. thinking perhaps that easier would be to just give in. foolish to be thinking I am being you and you are being me.
Humphries flicked his tail again, and then hopped down from his perch. He was getting rather bored, especially of being threatened, and he certainly wasn't going to continue to sit there and be insulted. He twitched again. respecting of position should you be. insulting me again and punishment will befall you. I am staff. I am cat. I am seeing much more than you. the cat turned then and meowed up at her, adding a swish of his tail, radiating confidence from head to tail.

Another text messaged, one that communicated all too well what was really behind Devyn’s angry words to the feline. It just made her anger, but at the same time she felt defeated because a cat even saw through what was wrong. Then again it should have been obvious if Humphries knew about her and it seemed that he did. With all of his warning about how she was on her last few strands with the school and that messing with him would just lead to unhappy result with the school and him.
“I know we are not the same people, but you just sort of have a power similar to mine. Except you are a real animal and thus can choose to live as a cat and it be okay.” Devyn responded back and then she let out a sigh. She scratched at her head a little before playing with her father’s ring around her neck. She was trying to get herself to calm down, needing to remain in check. She really should not have been taking her feelings out on a cat, a cat that was a part of the staff. She normally was at least a little bit more careful hen that.
“Yeah I got it. I’m done. I’m sorry for having been disrespectful.” Devyn said, taking another deep breath and then looked away. She then glanced back at the feline, still having the urge to chase it but there was a greater urge now. Since normal animals didn’t really like her because they were afraid of her, she didn’t really get to pet that many. Innocent animals, the babies of any creature seemed fine with her since they didn’t seem to understand what was a threat or something. So she could pet puppies, kittens, and the like but she never actually pet a cat before. “Can I pet you? I’ll leave you alone after that. Well I’ll try to, but I might still be watching you closely the whole trip.” Devyn pointed out.
Humphries knew that some people looked at him and wondered, especially shifters or those with powers close enough to his. Was he their future? Was he some sort of strange warning? Yes, Humphries chose this form, but he'd always felt out of place as a human and saw this as his means of actually having the life he'd always wanted. What right did anyone else have to judge that? It wasn't as if he'd given up his responsibilities or stopped working to improve their foolish society.
So yes, he expected to be respected. He actually drew himself up a little more as Devyn essentially admitted as much. He wouldn't forgive her for her poor behavior: she'd have to learn to control herself better on her own. Still, progress was progress, and he'd acknowledge it. The comment had him tilting his head, curling himself slightly.
being trap this should not be doing. but the petted is allowing if promise not to pet opposite fur or doing things unpleasantly and then Humphries rose to his feet, shifting his body so that he at least stood on all fours: prime petting posture.
Post by Devyn Solway on Jan 27, 2015 12:52:43 GMT -6
Devyn did see Humphries’s power as something that made her worry a little bit about her own. She already knew that she could lose control over herself in her other form. The longer she was in her other form she got closer to losing control over herself if it didn't happen from the start. She liked the idea of being able to live in her other form without having to worry about these stupid emotions that hurt like hell and dragged her down into her own darkness. Her thoughts were always dark by this point anyways, so she figured her form should match her mindset.
Still, she was not some average looking cat so she doubted things would have gone over smoothly for her trying to live out her life in her other form. That and the fact that she was still within her form and thus eating as a shadow beast didn't actually provide her with food. Nor did drinking and she could not even go to the bathroom. So no, she could not live as a shadow beast as she liked, but it was still a thought that was there. Perhaps just being stuck until her actually body just died and thus put an end to her as well.
The text came in then, telling her basically that she could not trap him like she did but that she was allowed to pet him. She was hesitant at first, watching him closely as the feline took up a position. After a moment of staring she did careful reach her hand out to carefully stoke his fur, making sure to go the right way. She knew how to pet an animal; she herself was petted from time to time in her other form so it was not some foreign concept. "Wow, you are softer then I imagined." Devyn said, the temptation to pick that cat up was there now but she settled for petting him and moving to scratch under his chin if he would allow her to.
