NAME: Charity Joy Legrange
NICKNAME: Chair (nobody actually calls her that; she just thinks it sounds adorbs)
AGE: 30
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual (except that one time in college but she was under a lot of pressure and things just sort of happened)
POSITION: Trainer
FACE CLAIM: Zooey Deschanel
POWER:
Intuitive Power Understanding
Okay, so, like, it's kind of hard to explain but it sort of goes like this: I can study a mutant, like, look at them and listen or something like that and then I just sort of know how their power works, often better than the mutant herself (himself? Themself?). I can figure out the intricacies of powers just by looking at someone, and even figure out precisely how to use them and stuff. I can determine secondary powers and latent potential to some degree, but that depends a bit on, like, whether or not I really know them. It's kind of like knowing how fast a car can go by looking at it: you still need the right driver or whatever.
Power Detection
Yeah, I can also, like, detect powers and stuff as a sort of secondary power. It's another one of those intuitive understanding things. It's, not, uh, great, especially in crowds and stuff. I just sort of get this gut feeling when there's a mutant nearby and can sort of point at one just by thinking it (and then start understanding their powers).
Limitations
- I can't like, locate people from too far away without someone nearby to boost my power. I can totally detect and analyze powers if someone's in the same room, often the same building, but usually not a whole lot further than that.
- It doesn't work as well if there's something in the way. Like, I could totally understand powers if I watch a video or something, but it really takes a lot more and I can totally get a wrong reading or something.
Side-Effects
- in general I kind of feel this buzz thing, especially around other mutants.
- I get headaches if I study someone for too long.
- I will get disoriented if I use my power too much; I won't even be able to walk if I've been doing it too much.
The CD has a clearly marked label on it reading “Hope Legrange; Personal.” There's also several cute little drawings all over it, mostly involving what appears to be various cartoon characters that are definitely happy to see you. One appeared to be Hope, seeing as there was an arrow pointing at her.
The drawing was moderately accurate too, sort of. She had dark hair that fell about shoulder length and giant, huge, bug-like blue eyes. That wasn't even touching the giant smile that lit up the little drawing's face. Nor the adorable clothing she appeared to have on. She didn't seem all that big either, more adorable in both size and demeanor and all.
The Cd begins playing, and a woman's voice begins, speaking slowly:
“Hi, I'm Hope—oh shoot, that's a horrible opening, isn't it? So cliché and stuff. Let me start over:
“Howdy folks I'm Hope Legrange and---
“Okay, so that's not me. I'm just, yeah, I'm going to start this over and...
“Hello, my name's Hope Legrange and I'm special. Well, technically everyone's special and I totally live to make that apparent and--- you know what, I have songs! Just skip to track 2. Seriously. Just hit the advance. Really. It'll be better.
“...
“Why aren't you skipping? Don't you want to skip? It's better on track---
Track two
“Oh there once was a little ladybug,
such a cute little bug,
she flitted from leaf to leaf,
looking for a hug.
Oh the ladybug she looked for a hug as ladybugs definitely dooooo
and this is her journey yep this is her story
and I hope you have one like it tooooo.
The ladybug, she traveled so far
she found a walking stiiiick
they flitted and played and did so hug
and it was totally siiiiiick.
Oh the ladybug she looked for a hug as ladybugs definitely doooo
and this is her journey yep this is her story
and I hope you have one like it toooooo.
The stick bug and the cute little lady
they ventured both near and far
then found a little pill bug all curled up
and now huggers together they arreeee.
Oh the ladybug she looked for a hug as ladybugs definitely doooo
and this is her journey yep this is her story
and I hope you have one like it toooooo.
The cute little troupe
they went to the city
where things weren't so cute
and people didn't act so pretty.
But they stuck to the hugs
because they were buds
and these bud bugs could be me and youuuuuu.
Oh the ladybug she looked for a hug as ladybugs definitely doooo
and this is her journey yep this is her story
and these bud bugs could be me and youuuuuu.
Track 3
“You've probably heard about mutants and stuff. They sound scary when you think about the whole throwing fireballs and stuff, but most of them are actually these cute little kids and stuff. Like, it's just normal kids and stuff, and they have normal kid problems and stuff.
“But it's worse because these normal kids can shoot fireballs and junk. Do you remember what it was like being a teenager? Can you imagine throwing fireballs? Yeah, sucks. They need buddies to hug and stuff to go on adventures and my song totally is a little young for them I guess. But I've got more!”
Track 4]
“She wakes up and looks in the mirror
knows who she sees.
It's someone who's her but who does things she can't.
This is the person she wakes up to see
the person who is and isn't her
I know this person she used to be me
now she does things I can't do.
How am I supposed to understand her?
How am I supposed to understand
me?
The facades go on to cover her life
She's normal
she's pretty
she's safe
she just wants a life.
She knows what it's like to be.
The person she wakes up to see.
I know this person she used to be me
now she does things I can't do.
How am I supposed to understand her?
How am I supposed to understand
me?
Everyone sees the facades as they start to fade
they start to crumble and pass
something new's coming out and she doesn't know how to push it down
she struggles and fights and screams.
I know this person she used to be me
now she does things I can't do.
How am I supposed to understand her?
How am I supposed to understand
me?
This person is her, the her that she sees
the mirror is becoming her
is that what she wants is that what she needs
she doesn't know, but that's how it will be.
I know this person she used to be me
now she does things I can't do.
How am I supposed to understand her?
How am I supposed to understand
me?
How am I supposed to understand her?
How am I supposed to understand
me?
Track 5
“I went to school to be a teacher, obviously, and I graduated near the top of my class. I know all the best methods and pedagogy and fully believe in student centered learning. I'm... not sure what I'm doing with this CD, or, like, my life in general, to be honest. But I know teaching and I want to help people.
“My dad's a mutant. Okay, I... well, I wrote a song about this, so I'm gonna just let the next track speak and I'll keep going.
Track 6
“Father, father, what have we done?
Have we asked for this life?
Have we started our path?
Are we walking in your lines or are we following blind?
You weren't there when we were young.
Mother knew who you were but we never did.
We will never know our fathers
Fathers are not to be known.
Fathers are not to be known.
We follow the path of our fathers
The paths that have gone before
or we forge our own to be shaped on our own.
Father, father, what have we done?
Have we asked for this life?
What path are we on?
Fathers don't get a test of their own;
Fathers just are
they walk forward
they don't expect to be followed
then one day they are.
Father father, what have we done?
Have we asked for this life?
We follow your path though we know you didn't know.
Let's hope we reach our own.
Track 7
“Good thing I'm not a songwriter, right? But yeah, my dad's Guy Legrange, and if you don't think that's humiliating then wait for the best part: I didn't know until I got a crush on him in high school.
“Yeah, seriously, I had a crush on my dad before I knew he was my dad. Awesome, right? I'm not great at that. I'm not really that great at anything. But I try and I really want to help people, and that's got to count for something, right?”
SAMPLE: So maybe Hope shouldn't have volunteered for this. It was her first real thing as a staff member at Bellefonte and she was feeling way, way out of her league, especially right now. Because it looked like someone had literally covered a dorm room in some sort of goo.
“Where did they even get all this?” Hope wondered as she stepped forward, looking in awe at the stuff coating nearly every surface. She could see the results and felt that tingling in the back of her mind. Super snot? Yeah, definitely not snot-kinesis, if that was even a thing. Sometimes Hope really hated her brain: other people surely didn't look at this stuff.
“Well, this is definitely against the rules,” said Hope, turning to look around. She stuck her head back into the hallway. “Hey, someone tell me who did this! They definitely aren't going to be punished and reprimanded for breaking rules or anything!”
