NAME: Olivia , Sophia, Prudence (Goes by Smith)
NICKNAME: Liv, or Livvie, at times to her disdain.
AGE: 17
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Unsure.
POSITION: Student.
FACE CLAIM: Ellen Page
POWER:
Name of Power
Pain manipulation and Mental resistance:
Olivia's power is mainly the manipulation of pain of others through effecting their minds, she can either do this by inducing pain into their nerve system', which a person would perceive as a burning sensation all throughout their body, varying in intensity depending on Olivia. She can also reduce another person's pain, giving them a numbing sensation instead. If the pain or numbing a single person feels is intense enough, they can be reduced to passing out.
She does this by imagining a person's mind in her head, and then placing or removing needles from it, removing them reduces pain, adding more increases it.
The second half of her power is that she has a natural resistance to mental based powers, and an unnaturally high willpower for someone her age, coming with a much higher than average pain tolerance.
The resistances and willpower she has gained have benefited her, giving her unusually high resistance to mind altering effects or suggestion, whether the source be from drugs or other abilities, although this by no means is to say that she is immune to these effects, a skilled enough person could overpower her resistance with some effort.
Limitations
-She has an effective range of about 10 meters
-At her current level of training, she can only effect a single person at any given time.
-She can only manipulate pain for about 25 minutes every 24 hours.
-Although her maximum range is 10 meters, manipulating pain becomes harder the further a person is away from her, and requires more concentration. If she can maintain skin to skin contact with a person, it is much easier for her to do, and she could do other actions simultaneously.
-Becomes more difficult the to control the higher the intensity goes, meaning that the more pain she gives out, the harder she will find it to maintain control over a person's pain, especially as she will be receiving backlash at the same time.
-Due to only having recently activated her mutation, she finds it difficult to keep a hold on single target for longer than 5 minutes, without complete focus.
-Also due to her power being mentally focused, a person with a resistance to such powers would naturally be harder for her to effect, if not impossible, and a person with a higher pain tolerance than normal would also prove troublesome.
-Obviously her resistance only effects powers that target her mind, this by no means gives her resistance to mental based abilities which do not target her mind, telekinesis, pyrokinesis ect, would all effect her like a normal human being, secondly, the more potent the person attacking her mind, the more difficult she would find it to resist, E.G a telepath who has had their powers for 60 years would be much harder to resist than a teenager.
Side-Effects
-The main drawback to using her power, above all others, is that she feels a portion of the pain or numbing that she dishes out to her target, around 30% of the intensity, while this might not sound like a huge amount if the intensity is high it can severely effect her concentration, and the effects linger for a while, taking up to 2-3 hours to dissipate depending on the intensity.
-Olivia finds exercising her mutation quite addictive and can become quite volatile if she is not able to at least once every 48 hours for a short burst, it will begin to make her jumpier than usual and also suffer migraines.
-In terms of side effects, although she has a naturally higher resistance to mental based abilities she suffers some backlash from people attempting to break through her resistance, for example if someone tried to influence her, she would get a gradually intensifying headache, which would eventually lead to nose bleeds or blackouts if she suffered extended periods of this.
-Also worth noting that any person with enough skill could work their way around her resistance, it would just be significantly harder to effect her than a normal person.
TRIGGER WARNING: SELF HARM, ABUSE
Some people say they know what it means to be fucked up, or to come from somewhere fucked up. People don't really mean that, they just had trouble or something back home, maybe their parents were aggressive or disciplined them a little too roughly. Very few people actually know what it's like to come from a place which is fucked up beyond all recognition. And those people, don't talk about it very much. They don't want to reflect, or they are just jaded enough to not care at this point enough to talk.
Then there are the little girls who always wanted to live in a fairy tail and all they get is a nightmare. There was once a little girl who was born to a little family in one of those big, noisy cities in America. She wasn't born to a king and queen, or even a pair of good Samaritans. She was born to a pair of people, with normal people problems. These people decided one day on a drunken whim that they wanted a kid.
Unfortunately for the princess of our story, she was not this kid. She was the unwanted accident that followed the other kid. She grew up in a stress filled household with what seemed like the perfect older sister, always receiving praise and gifts, medals for sports, trophies and awards for being in the top of her classes, ect. Perfect kid, you get the idea.
So, long story short, this elder sister seems like the perfect older daughter, even though the household she lives under is always tight on money and stressed. The father being somewhat on the tense side of things. Unfortunately for the girl of the story, her mother died.
This worsened the already tense atmosphere in the house, and also meant there was one less breadwinner in the house to pay the bills, the girls father grew violent, more arrogant and strict over to two of them. Although the younger girl didn't' know this for a long time, but it was a year or so after the mother's sad demise that the abuse had begun.
The younger sister's behaviour worsened, constantly getting into fights with people at school, yelling and screaming at others, not being self entitled, just unstable and slowly began to stop caring about what was going on around her. After seeing the way that her father had begun to abuse alcohol the little princess of our story refused to give into peer pressure with what people she stayed around who could be considered friends in even the vaguest sense of the word offered her drugs.
The little princess begun wearing darker clothing and by the time she had just started highschool was pretty much alone most of the time, listening to darker depressing music. She would play loud music out of her speakers most evenings, lying against a wall in a dark corner, near oblivious to the sounds that would just barely echo through the walls of their household.
After a while, her drunken excuse for a father began to grow tiresome of her rebellious behaviour and one rainy evening struck her during an argument, repeatedly. She quietened down after that, suffering several bruises. She became even more reclusive after that, not even speaking to her older sister any longer.
It was but a couple more years, until tragedy struck. The father would occasionally snap, striking the princess, she eventually withdrew more and began taking a knife to her own skin. These wounds slowly becoming scars on her upper stomach and upper arms, just under the shoulder, around the corner from her biceps, doing her best to hide these wounds from those around her, and her bruises.
One evening however, the father entered the princesses room while she was on her way home from school, growing paranoid and suspicious that she may have been keeping secrets from him, and wanting to tell others about what went on behind closed doors, he found a blood caked knife concealed inside of a box placed in one of her locked desk draws. He became furious, and started drinking heavily and lashed out at everything around him in a fit of rage.
To save you the details, the girl came home, her father was flipping the F*** out, hit her, the sister then lost it for some reason and the princess proceeded to make a run for it, snatching her backpack from by the front door and scrambling out onto the streets. Crashes and loud shouting were ringing in her mind as she sprinted down the dirt caked streets to escape.
The girl caught a bus over to the next town with what change she had in her purse and quickly discovered just how much harder life could possibly get for her. I know right? Little girl thinks she can tough it out on the streets just because she had a tough time at home, beyond tough. She hears over a radio about a case taken to the courts, her case. The case of her father, and him being condemned to life in prison, her sister being hospital ridden for the foreseeable future.
Maybe the girl occasionally thinks about going back to her home town, seeing her sister, maybe going into foster care. Or, maybe a second option occurs to her. She can live on her own rules, even if the streets are unforgiving, there was nobody there to tell her what to do, to hold her under their thumb. She was her own person. Maybe she finds someone she can sympathise with? Maybe she shows them the ropes and looks after them, befriends them. Show somebody else the compassion she never had.
Why am I writing this story you ask? Who would even read this? You ask what kind of fucked up world could conjure such a messed up fairy tale about such depravity? Maybe it's ours. Maybe this little fucked up 'tale' is the best way that a little girl was able to cope with what happened to her? Maybe turning real events into a fairy tale gave her hope for a happy ending? Or maybe she ends up at a school filled with super powered brats and more oppressive bullshit? Who knows.
