NAME: Annabelle Erinn Bradley
NICKNAME: Anna, Annie
AGE: 16
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Bisexual
POSITION: Student
FACE CLAIM: Lucy Hale
POWER:
Flash-bang Generation and Photosynthetic Processing
Flashbang Generation:
Anna's mutation allows her to generate small orbs of light that detonate within several seconds with a blinding flash. Although she refers to them as "Flashbangs" there is one key difference in that it produces no shrapnel upon detonation. Technically speaking, the energy she produces has the same functionality as that of a standard stun grenade. Likewise her physiology has adapted to withstand the powerful effects of these detonations should she be caught in one of her own attacks. To accumulate the energy for said mutation, she absorbs and processes light through her body in a process that is similar to photosynthesis in plants. Unfortunately this has an odd effect on her moods as well as her energy levels that can vary depending on her use of power. Using the stored energy inside of her body, Anna is able to formulate it into a small orb about the size of a golf ball. Upon coming into contact with air it begins a chemical reaction inside of the orb which will cause it to detonate within three seconds. She can throw these orbs or roll them along the ground and they will retain their shape until those three seconds have passed, at which point they will flare up and unleash a blinding light as well as a loud noise. The light produced from the explosion will momentarily activate all of the photorecepter cells in the eyes of whoever happens to be looking at it, blinding them for five seconds. The sound produced has a volume of roughly 160 decibels. Victims will only be able to hear a high pitched ringing in their ears for several seconds. This also disturbs the fluids in the ears which causes a loss of balance. The detonation itself does not produce shrapnel like a regular stun grenade would, but it still produces a similar level of heat and concussive energy. As such if the detonation occurs near a flammable substance, such as fuel, it will possibly ignite said substance.
Limitations and Side-Effects:
The flashbangs that she generates are always of the same size and take the same amount of input to generate. She has no way to transfer excess energy into the small blinding orbs, meaning the only quick way to expend excess is to manually let off several flashbangs at once. She is limited in that she can only produce one at a time, and that it must be in the palm of her hands. This means that her range is as far as she is able to throw them. They are lightweight and lack any flaws in their structuring and it is akin to throwing a ping pong ball. As said the amount of energy needed to formulate a flash-bang is roughly 10% of her maximum storage. This pool is separate from the natural energy she accumulates through regular human means. She is incapable of generating light from her body if she does not have the proper amount of energy needed to do so. This acts as a buffer zone and prevents Annabelle from drawing from her natural reserves. While this protects her it also limits the amount of times she can use her abilities in a row. Unfortunately, Annabelle is not immune to her own powers. Should she catch an eyeful of the detonation then she will be blinded just like others would. This forces her to be smart about using her powers so that she doesn't end up potentially harming herself.
Photosynthetic Processing:
Anna's body does not generate the energy that is used in her flash-bangs by itself. Instead her skin absorbs light in a way that is different from the average human. Whereas prolonged exposure to sunlight will normally cause the epidermal layer of skin to produce more melanin, Anna's skin instead stores excess UV radiation in her body by converting it into chemical energy. Because of this she cannot tan or become sunburned. This provides energy not only for her abilities but gives her a little bit of extra 'pep' when simply being stored. The pool of energy in which she forms her flash-bangs is separate from the natural energy she gains through normal human means. On average she stores 10% of her maximum energy limit for every hour. This average varies depending on the way in which she is exposed to the sunlight. For example, she would gain more energy if she were sunbathing on a cloudless day as opposed to taking in the light that is reflected off the Moon. Although she takes steps to control her emotions she often feels hyper and fidgets a lot if she is not burning energy. She suffers intense mood swings which can most often be attributed to a massive swing in energy should she overexert herself when using her abilities.
Limitations and Side-Effects:
Anna's body is constantly in a state of absorbing sunlight and then releasing it back out. Often times the excessive amount of energy that is stored will increase her body temperature. While this doesn't regularly reach dangerous levels there are times where she will be uncomfortable depending on a number of factors including the outside temperature, the rate in which she is expending energy, and how much sun she has absorbed during the day. She has been known to pass out on particularly hot summer days and has been able to go out into the cold with light clothing. The heat that she emits is noticeable by almost anyone that comes in contact with her.
The absorption process is what provides the energy needed to formulate the flashbangs that Annabelle can generate. Unfortunately when not in use that energy is being put to use through other ways, as a method of keeping her from overloading. Aside from simply exuding heat from her person, Anna also experiences higher levels of emotions depending on the amount of energy absorbed. On a full charge she is on an elevated level, displaying happiness and confidence to an extreme degree. It can at times seem as if she is overtly hyper and she doesn't seem to be able to control herself. After overusing her abilities she'll feel exhausted and lethargic. Due to the nature of her abilities she often slips between varying states of emotional well-being and the potential whiplash of such sudden imbalances can strain on her mental state.
Conversely, Annabelle also suffers when she doesn't have regular exposure to sunlight. Whether there happens to be several rainy days in a row or if she's just holed up indoors, it will negatively impact her physical energy. This is due to the way her abilities work. If her body is thought of as a balloon, and light being extra air, then she is being stretched beyond what the natural human body contains. Unlike a balloon however Annabelle will not simply return to regular and the way in which she stores energy has been stretched thin. At this point in her mutation she relies on the extra energy to actually be "awake" and without it she grows tired, drained. Without the energy of the sun stored within her, she is operating at approximately 75% capacity of the average human being. As for how it effects her mood, it is quite similar to what happens when she burns through all of her energy. However the effects of this depression tend to last longer than when she just simply expends sunlight from her body.
APPEARANCE SECTION:
As a young girl with an ever-present smile on her face Annabelle is a regular spitfire of a teenager. Coming from a family full of blondes, Anna is the literal black sheep of the family with the dark, smooth, and thick hair that she has inherited from her father. Often she wears her raven colored tresses in one of two ways. Although her preferred style is simply letting it lay straight, she occasionally pulls it up into a simple ponytail. These black locks contrast well with her light complexion, which can be attributed to both her abilities as well as her naturally lighter skin tone.
As far as her facial features are concerned it is safe to say that they are fairly distinct. High cheek bones combined with a pointed jawline give her face something of an oval structuring. Anna's forehead is slightly taller than average with thick eyebrows. Her eyes are thin and almond shaped and take on a green-grey hue, another trait inherited from her father. She has long eyelashes Although her lips would be considered average by most they often curl up into a bright smile. Her overall build is light and compact, an elegant way of saying she's small. She weighs in at about 119 pounds and lacks any meaningful muscle tone on her body. It should also be of note that ever since entering High School she's been looking up at about everyone who isn't a child, standing at a below average 5'2 feet.
Must Have Apparel:
Her style of dress is limited in two ways. For starters she doesn't come from a particularly wealthy family. She won't be seen wearing the latest fashion trends, nor will she be sporting some style from a well known designer. On the other hand, her own mutant abilities not only regulates her body temperature but sometimes raises it above what would be considered normal. Keeping this in mind she dresses lighter to avoid the discomfort that comes along with that heat. Casual and comfortable are the only real trends in the types of outfits that Anna finds herself wearing, and any sort of makeup is generally light.
PERSONALITY SECTION:
Imagine if you will a bubbly and extroverted young girl who is constantly putting forth her best effort to maintain her happiness. Now imagine that this person can't ever turn it off and you've got Annabelle. While naturally an upbeat person her powers have slipped into her everyday life, making her a literal walking ball of energy. Sometimes she struggles with the fact that she never really gets to take a rest. While not physically tiring she finds that her emotional levels are constantly in a state of flux due to not being able to live like she normally did. A combination of constantly having to be active, restless nights, and otherwise being "awake" at all times leaves her mentally exhausted. She can often be found fidgeting about and tends to get bored with others who aren't as active as her. Despite this nasty side effect of her abilities she does her best to keep a positive outlook on things.
Instilled in her by her mother is a sense of compassion. Like all people there are times when others can be frustrating or annoying. No matter how upset another makes her she finds it difficult to truly hate someone and is quick to forgive. She does have an alpha personality which leads to have tempers flare. While some tend to fall into the trap of always believing they're right, Anna is humble enough to admit when she's made a mistake. Overall she is a helpful person who likes to see all sides of the story and truly believes in the good of people. Having said that, Annabelle does tend to sit somewhere between an optimist and a realist. She will trust people but she also understands that not everyone will act the way she wants them to, based on her own personal morals. As such she isn't one to judge, everyone has their good and bad days and she's quick to recognize that.
Although her views on others is one of high regard, she tends to see herself in a harsher light. A combination of wanting to be a good person and her own low self esteem means that Annabelle is constantly in a state where she is criticizing herself. Generally speaking even the smallest of mishaps can invoke a sense of failure inside the youth. Benign or large, each and every problem will be something that she'll worry about. Her upbeat attitude is genuine enough but it is kept up to some degree in that it helps her forget about her insecurities. In fact the positive display that she puts on each day is just a way to hide what is really going on in her head. All the jokes and smiles are only there to hide someone who has low self esteem and worries deeply about her future.
Regardless of how she sees herself Anna is a good person at her core. It doesn't take much to see that she cares about others and shows the humility of a saint. She isn't angry with her life or trying to reach for the stars, she's just living day by day as best she can. Her biggest flaw is that she has trouble seeing the worth in herself, like she hasn't found her calling yet. Instead she focuses on the good qualities that others have and takes pleasure in being someone who can give an encouraging word in tough times. All she has to do is see the good in herself and maybe she'll find some peace in her life.
Extra Quirk:
Because of her abilities, Anna constantly seems as if she could be ready to jump up and start moving at any time. This often shows itself in her fidgeting or rapping her fingers on her knees. During times where she has limited exposure to sunlight, she appears as exhausted and lethargic. Often this manifests itself in intense mood swings.

Childhood:
Long before Annabelle was born, her mother Diana was a young woman who found herself in an abusive relationship. For years she stayed with the same man and together they had three boys. Sometimes the things that people do when they think they are in love is irrational, and Diana found herself caught in the trap that her husband was only doing the right and proper thing. Without a job of her own to support herself she was afraid that if she left, she would be left on the streets. It took several years to work up the courage to finally say enough was enough, and after several court cases she divorced and took her children with her. Oddly enough she didn't ask for a single bit of money from her ex-husband. Perhaps because she wished to start entirely fresh.
Following her divorce, Diana began to start classes in an attempt to become a nurse. As a single mother living out of a small apartment she had trouble making ends meet. There was also the issue of her three children. Thankfully a kindly old couple were gracious enough to take care of the boys when she was working. Her courage to take a stand for herself was rewarded with a degree in medicine, and she finally secured a career that she had wanted for many years. They weren't the wealthiest family in the world but they were stable for the time being. It seemed as though the Carpenter family was seeing a turn in their fortunes. That was when Andrew Bradley came into the scene.
Andrew was a fellow nurse at the Hospital where Diana worked at. He was a calm and collected man who seemed to have a lot of potential. Diana struck up a rapport with the man and eventually the two began dating. It was a passionate fling but both parties were happy with the arrangement. It was when Diana discovered that she was pregnant that Andrew began to have apprehension. He was supportive in that he would provide the child support without question. He did not however think himself father material and he was not ready to give up his bachelor lifestyle. They broke it off on amicable conditions and Diana carried the child to term, eventually giving birth to a beautiful baby girl named Annabelle.
Annabelle grew up as well as one could from a family with relatively little income. Her parents tried to provide for her as best as they could. Like any child would she grew up with curiosity as to why her father didn't live with her, why she looked different from her brothers. There were questions that were only answered with "It's complicated". She grew up with doubt about who she was and felt sometimes isolated from her siblings. It was around this time that her mother began showing her what it meant to be a good person, and this was where the insecurities began to form. She was always comparing herself to her brothers and wondered if she was doing the right thing. It granted a level of paranoia that no child should have to deal with, but she had trouble expressing her fears.
As she went through school she discovered that she hated being inside the walls of a classroom. She felt that she wasn't smart enough to understand the subjects that they covered, and she had little interest in what was being taught. Unfortunately this was during the time where students could get left behind if they weren't showing that they could be productive. Anna acted out to receive the attention that she wanted, feeling as though she was being forgotten by her teachers. Her aloof attitude towards schooling conflicted with the upbeat personality that she put on from day to day. Her actions indicated that she was strong, that she simply didn't care, but deep down she was scared that she wouldn't be able to find her place.
Adolescence:
When Anna's mutation first manifested, she didn't even realize it. At the age of 15 she awoke one morning and dragged herself off to school. What was normally a less than enthusiastic march to school became an energized experience. She was practically skipping along and her energy showed. It was almost as if a switch had been turned on that suddenly jolted her awake. The boost in energy was appreciated but later on that night she realized that it just wouldn't go away. It was a long sleepless night and she sat in bed with eyes wide open. As the sun began to rise, Annabelle could only wonder what exactly was going on.
She spent the next several days and nights reliving the exact same thing, unable to sleep. Her paranoia increased and she worried that something may be terribly wrong with her. During gym class where the students were playing soft ball, something would happen that would shock both Anna and her peers. She stood somewhere out in center field when something bright began to emerge from the palm of her hand. The young girl looked on with a mixture of shock and terror as it unceremoniously fell from her hand to the grassy field. One of the other girls who stood near her had noticed the shining orb on the ground and looked over with curiosity. Within moments it detonated with a brilliant flash of light. She was immediately blinded and a loud ringing filled her ears. It was wildly different from anything she had experienced before. When she finally regained her composure she noticed that the other girl was barely recovering herself.
The young girl was horrified at what had just occurred. Looking out to her classmates there was a mixed reaction of shock and confusion. Like a lot of children who are scared, Annabelle ran. She ran as fast as she could off of school grounds and back to her family's apartment. She sprinted without stopping once, using her new found energy to get out of there as fast as possible. Quickly she rushed inside of her apartment and into her room, slamming the door. Annabelle sat there for what felt like an eternity, scared at what she had just done. Her own fears were affirmed when her mother gently knocked on the door, asking if everything was okay. Annabelle replied in earnest that she wasn't sure.
8 days after she first began to notice her restlessness, Anna was locked away in her room. She had avoided contact with everyone, including her family, believing that she was a danger to them. A knock came to her door and her mother called for her. With tears staining her face she went to let her mother in. When she unlocked her room however she was greeted by both her mother and two strangers. They said that they were representatives of an Academy that specialized in helping kids just like Annabelle. Of course Anna was confused and frightened but there was little choice in the situation. With a heartfelt goodbye to her family she left her home to find her place at Bellefonte Academy.
It has been several months since then and she's experienced quite a bit. Anna has learned much about both her powers and her situation as she begins to acclimate to her new surroundings. There is still much she needs to learn and she's currently trying to come to terms with what she is. One has to assume that Bellefonte is a good place for doing just that.

SAMPLE:
Lorna remained silent as possible as her father gave a light sigh. Clearly her answer had not been the one he was looking for. She had meant well of course, it was her intention to do the best she possibly could when the time came. But intention only took one so far and that was the girl's main problem. For all she intended to do she lacked the resolve that was required to follow through with her ambitions. It was the absence of struggle that had made her this way. That was the key difference between the two when it came down to it. There was no strife that she had suffered in her life save for some common bullies, and although their words hurt it certainly wasn't true pain. Try as she may there would be absolutely no way of replicating what Magneto had gone through.
As much as she hated to admit it, all of her attempts to improve her skills were not done with with her full efforts. What should have been a loud roar simply came out as a meager growl. When it came down to it she had no pressing matters that required her to grow strong with haste. There was certainly a desire to push herself but when it came time to prove herself she couldn't find the drive. How disappointing it must have been for her father, to see all of that untapped potential just lying in wait. It gave her a great deal of stress and demolished whatever hopes she may have had. If the current state of things around her was any indication of her progress, it was entirely possible that she may not be the right person to wield that power. She wasn't a prodigy in any sense of the word, and even something as simple as levitating a few metal objects around her proved to be a daunting task.
An issue that she had was that when failure reared its ugly head Lorna would simply back down. She had been laying in the grass now, instead of trying to pick herself back up. The green haired girl had defeated herself before she even began to fight. She looked plaintively at her father, her despair only building with each passing second. They came from two entirely different worlds, and Lorna always believed that life would be relatively simple. Upon meeting her father an entirely different standpoint was introduced to her. Suddenly everything had been flipped on its head, everything she knew about the world would have to be forgotten if she were to prosper under her father's care. The quiet and thoughtful girl would have to be replaced by someone who could fight for whatever her ideals were.
His reply was less than reassuring. There were no words that she had to defend herself, for what the older man said was true. The nightmare scenario that was laid out to Lorna brought no comfort to her troubled heart. If she sat around and hoped for mercy from others then the world would surely chew her up and spit her out. That was just the true law of the land even if she didn't quite wish to believe it. The way it had been said was more than enough to convince her as such. She would not be granted time to muster courage, she would have to fight for it if the situation ever came. The grimace she wore only spoke of how little she believed in herself to do so. Her weaknesses would only be a liability, one that mutant kind could not suffer. She dreaded the possibilities and hoped that what he spoke of would never come to pass.
It was then that he began to make his way closer towards her, and a growing fear began to rise in her chest. She could not help but be thrown off by his cold stare. The eyes that belonged to her father held nothing but rage and pain, how he managed to hold everything back was largely a mystery to her. Was it actually possible to turn one's weakness into a strength? Surely there was some secret that she was not privy too. If she could cultivate all of her self doubt, mold it into something else, perhaps she too could find a whole new realm of possibilities that were in front of her all along. Somehow it all seemed too simple. The answers that she sought for wouldn't be so easily discovered.
Her green hues carefully watched his finger as it neared closer towards her forehead. She did not move or even tremble as it drew near, only her eyes tried to focus on the digit. Seeing it coming for her did nothing to ease her nerves. As her father found his mark she visibly winced, as if expecting his index to drive right through her head. The girl remained as still as she could on the outside, but shock began to run throughout her mind. Mentally she was shrinking back from his imposing form. She wanted nothing more than to escape from the lesson that he wished to teach. It was all too much for her to handle sometimes, and now more than ever she felt like a child once again. It was a truly humiliating experience that she didn't dare expose to the man. It felt as if despite her efforts he was gazing at something else. Her every thought and feeling must have been an open book to someone with his wisdom and experience, it was a fruitless endeavor to try and hide from someone of his caliber.
His tirade continued against her, for her foolish statement. Lorna's naivete to the inner workings of the world was exposed and assaulted. Each word stung like hot coal against her flesh and yet all she could do was maintain eye contact with her father. She wanted nothing more than to look away, but couldn't find it in herself to pull back. His very force of will was keeping her stranded. What was most frightening was the prospect that he proposed, that she had become too comfortable in the mutant dominated world in which they lived. Her vigilance was almost non-existent at this point in time and faded away with the thought that her father would be there to protect her. What he suggested was something else entirely, she needed to be able to defend not only herself but her people if he were to disappear.
A world without her father was a world Lorna had not imagined. He seemed to be a figure that was almost larger than life. She was enveloped by the legacy that he had created, and forgot that it was up to her to keep that legacy alive. It hadn't registered until now that there would come a day when even Magneto's power came crashing down. When that day came she would need to take up his mantle and continue down the path he had been traveling. She could almost feel the burdens that he held pressing down on her, crushing her where she lay. If this was what it meant to be a leader Lorna wasn't quite sure she was up to the challenge. Of course there must have been some hope for her, her father did not seem like the person to be wasting his time with lost causes.
She was finally released from his grasp, exhaling in relief as he stood up. In the heat of the moment it seemed that she had forgot to breath. He wanted her to grow strong of her own accord. It wasn't an easy task to be sure and like her father she would have to endure it alone. When it came down to it the only person she would have is herself. Still, it was nice to get some help every once in a while. She took her father's hand and rose to her feet. His rage seemed to leave his presence, his tone becoming lighter. Even with the absence of his anger the words still weighed in heavily for the message he was trying to convey. She could not simply try to do better next time, she had to be stronger for whatever came next. She looked up to him and spoke yet again, with more conviction than the last time. Something seemed to hit home for her.
"I t-think I understand father, thank you." She gave him an appreciative smile, as if to say she understood the pressures he was under. It was a simple affirmation but she hoped it was one he would appreciate.
