What did Devyn expect from this? Did she think that by volunteering to take pictures she'd save everything? That they'd magically get back together? She had to know that wouldn't work. In fact, Zoe hadn't even wanted to really accept the offer. She'd stared at the email for several long minutes, and eventually started texting her friends. Mae and Liz had both said that she should be strong and act like nothing had bothered her. Which was a lot easier to write in a text then to say.
They'd also lent her clothing, or, well, more particularly Liz had. Zoe was fairly certain that said clothing actually happened to be Beau's, but they'd insisted that Zoe should look as unattractive as possible, to make it look absolutely certain that she wasn't attempting to win Devyn back with this. There had been a brief exchange about possibly looking pretty, but they wanted to douse the flames, not try to throw sparks.
So Zoe wore a baggy, Bellefonte-emblazoned sweatshirt in black and gold over at least a shirt that happened to be hers. she'd purposefully not worn any hats or done anything to her hair, which had grown out a little but remained short. Instead of a skirt though, she wore a pair of ragged jeans that, again, she was fairly certain were meant for a boy. They wouldn't have held up were it not for the belt that cinched around Zoe's slim waist. Really, the only thing that looked normal was the camera.
The eight o' clock in the morning time had been Zoe being somewhat passive too: she wanted Devyn to drag herself out of bed early and come down here for her amusement. Shift of power and all that. Of course, Zoe had all but ruined it by showing up fifteen minutes early, walking around the edge of the field, trying to find a decent position. She'd just moved toward the end when the baggy sleeve caught on a branch. Zoe let out a little "oh" of frustration and began working at it, trying not to work her nerves out on the branch, trying and failing.
