Help Make It Better

Devyn was desperate, more then she had ever been for really anything in her entire life with the only thing coming close was her wanting her dad back. With her other two failed love relationships; she just gave in, rolled over, and just accepted it as it was. Falling into her whole stages of depression and what not before as always just trying to move one since her will to live was just too strong for some reason. This time however, she was not just going roll over and accepts things as they were. Zoe broke things off with her but Devyn didn't and could not accept that. She didn't even have a chance to prove to Zoe that she could be better. It felt horribly unfair that after working so hard to make herself better she didn't even get a chance to show it to the girl that she had been finally able to admit that she loved. It felt unfair that she was being punished for something that happened a while ago when they were doing at least better in Devyn’s mind long after what happened, happened.

Still, no matter how unfair it was she knew that she just had to try and make thing right with her and Zoe. To do that she needed another chance, to actually get a chance to prove that she could be a good girlfriend to Zoe. She needed help however, and even if she hated to admit it she knew it to be a fact. Of all the people she knew and had as a friend she went to Beau LaRoux, the guy that had long ago asked what she thought of Zoe; what Zoe made her feel. Devyn knew the answer now and figured with Beau's help, his advice, and the song she could get that much closer to trying to get back with Zoe. She had already decided that she wanted Zoe in her life not matter what but more importantly she wanted Zoe to be her girlfriend again. "Beau! You in?" Devyn sort of yelled as she knocked on the door with her left hand since her right hand was still wrapped up and healing.

Hope he is in. Devyn thought to herself, but was pretty confident that Beau was still in and not fully moved out yet. She had been watching him after all, working on getting up the courage to come talk to him. It was extremely weird for Devyn to not be able to just go up to someone to talk but again she didn't really ask people for help like this and after the whole breakup her confidence was pretty low.

"Sorta!" came the response. Beau was in, in and looking around his room and trying to remember if he had anything else he needed to move over to his new dorm room. He hadn't exactly been something of a pack rat: most of the stuff in here had actually needed to be thrown away. He had the instruments, some paper, some pictures, namely of his family and Liz, and a few other odds and ends that most people just sort of accumulated. Nothing too major though.

"Ain't gonna be in here for much longer though," he said, nodding. He turned, looking to see that Devyn stood in the doorway. The southerner chuckled. "Did I forget some kinda practice or somethin'? Thought we were doin' that on Thursdays or somethin'. Was gonna mention that I might need to take a break for a few weeks an' all, on account o' my movin' an' startin' college an' all."

Beau shrugged, taking the whole move very much in stride, as he took everything. His eyes ran over Devyn a little more closely now, and his country musician senses started tingling. "What happened to your hand? Duke it out with Mr. Konrad or somethin'?"

Devyn let out a relieved sigh when she heard Beau's voice, happy that her sort of stalking paid off and that Beau had not move out of his room one hundred percent yet. She already knew that he was probably had his hands full with packing everything up, moving to the college dorms, getting his classes together, and probably some things involving his girlfriend. She honestly felt a little bad about bothering him at such a hectic time but she really needed his help and honestly didn't know who else to turn to for this kind of help. The last time Devyn had really had a serious talk to him she pretty much got the idea that Beau was honestly better at this relationship thing then she was. She had worked at it, but she needed the help of someone she was going to consider and expert since he could get the ladies yet remained faithful to one girl and no doubt made her happy with how long they had been together, even if it was mainly just as friends.

"Yeah I know, and I'm really sorry for bothering you." Devyn said as she scratched at her head with her good hand, remaining in the doorway because she did not want to fully step onto Beau's territory when she was trying to give him respect and seek his help. It was an inner beast thing. Devyn smiled a little at Beau bringing up practice, honestly happy that Beau did in fact remember and that well they were friends and did that sort of thing with one another. Geez, I'm being a real sap ball lately. Devyn thought to herself with an inner sigh over the whole matter. "Oh, yeah. That is fine. We can get back to it once you are all settled in, if you are still up for it that is." Devyn said with a scratch to her head again, not wanting to force Beau to keep hanging out with her now that he was going to college, but Devyn honestly had older friends then younger friends and figured Beau would still be fine with hanging out with her.

She then took a deep breath, ready to just outright ask Beau and just tell him everything but then he asked her a question. Damn, should have worn gloves or something. She thought to herself as her injured hand drifted behind her, not feeling like her usual self who would show off the wound; that and this was self-caused instead of an accident or a battle wound. "I got into a fight with a mirror and it was a draw, but that is not really important. I uh...I need your help Beau." Devyn managed to get out, disappointed at herself for not fully getting out all that she wanted to say and guessed she still had to build up to admitting things like this.

Beau shrugged as Devyn apologized. Sure, he had plenty to do and all, but he'd always make time for his friends, even the ones that were sort of on the edge of the whole friendship thing, like the guy standing before him. Beau easily waved off the comment about waiting and all. "I'm sure I'll be up for it an' all," he said, nodding a few more times.

All that just led up to something else though, something that probably had something to do with the bandage and all. Beau could still feel those musician senses tingling, but he knew better to pry. That, and prying just wasn't much in Beau's nature. So he waited silently as Devyn explained, wincing slightly at the explanation. He'd heard of people doing stuff like that before, especially when you tossed mutant powers into the mix. The last bit brought concern out onto Beau's face.

"You in trouble or somethin'? Jus' lemme know if this is one of those situations where we should be prayin' on the way to gettin' outta town," Beau said it half in jest. there were people he'd do that for if it came down to it. Devyn... he wasn't as sure about. Didn't mean he wouldn't be there for a friend and all; they just... weren't as close as some of Beau's other friends. right now though, the Southerner was mostly racking his brain, trying to think of what could possibly have disturbed Devyn to this extent...

Well at least he is not too busy. Devyn thought to herself as she saw Beau simply shrug over that matter, making her feel a little less bad about bothering him. She started to smile a little again when he said that he would be up for it all, meaning she would still have her sparring partner and odd term friend. In fact, she was still not sure if Beau knew her real gender yet? He had to by now, right? Devyn would question the matter later since she needed to focus on the task at hand. "Good, I'll hold you to that." Devyn said in return a nod of her own. Moving her injured hand into her pocket, pleased that Beau was not asking her a million questions over it. He also was not making a big deal over it, which was an added bonus but beau was a guy so Devyn didn't really think he would make a big deal over an injury anyways. He was a tough guy, even if he was a musician.

"Sort of trouble...but not in the way you are getting at. At least not yet." Devyn said as she felt nerves starting to build up inside of her. It could very well get to that point once and if Zoe told her friends what happened or somehow the word got out about her and Devyn. She really didn't want Zoe's friends to hate her and just hoped she could at least get to them and try and explain things so they would not just have one side of the story. The story she was probably going to have to end up telling Beau at least a little bit of. "I messed up with Zoe. Apparently a while ago and didn't even realize it, but she found out and just...and things didn't go like I had planned and now...I need your help getting her back." Devyn stumbled and skipped parts, struggling with this whole asking for help and in general confiding in someone with her problems.

"Sorry, that was hardly understandable." Devyn said after a moment and took a deep breath as her green eyes looked around Beau's room for a moment. "Zoe broke up with me and I need your help with finishing the song and trying to get her back." Devyn just went ahead and asked but it came out more like her telling him because asking was still a work in progress.

Beau chuckled as Devyn promised to hold him to his word. Wasn't hardly anything that would upset or put out the young musician: he generally stood by the things he said, and that remained true in this case too. He just stood and listened as Devyn continued. Listened as Devyn said he messed up with Zoe. That figured; also explained why Beau's country music senses had been tingling as well.

"Messed up a while ago?" repeated Beau, raising his brows. That sounded like there had been some kind of secret that Devyn had attempted to bury. The other guy kept going, stumbling over things and obviously having issues with the whole thing. Again: Beau couldn't be too surprised. He did nod and look around for a seat, but of course he'd already gotten most of the furniture out of the room, so there really weren't options.

"Sorta gettin' what you're sayin'," he replied to Devyn, giving the other a quick look while still looking, before giving up entirely and just facing. Zoe... the shy little girl that Liz had met during the camping trip, that Zoe had actually broken up? And now.. "Well, uh, I don't know if we could manage that," he said, letting out another breath. he looked around again. "I'm pretty sure I actually wrote some stuff up in my notes an' all, jus' playin' around, but, well, if she broke up with you, situation's kinda changed..."

Beau hesitated for a moment, looking back at Devyn and then fidgeting. Should he... ask? See what was the reason? Or was that something he should wait and see if Devyn felt comfortable sharing...?

Beau asked a question, right she had been very vague on it all. She didn't really want to go into detail over the matter and she certainly did not want to break down with Beau. It was one thing to look weak in front of another girl but a whole other ball game to look weak in front of a guy. Especially when that guy was someone you sparred with and probably thought you were a dude. "As in way back to prom. I did something not really thinking it was a big deal and she found out about it and it was a big deal to her. Not that like I was hiding it from her but I never really like told her about it because who really just tells their girlfriend that sort of thing, right?" Devyn rambled a little bit, still not being fully clear on everything but she was trying.

Taking a deep breath to keep herself calm and telling herself that she could do this, that she had to do this. There was nowhere to really sit down besides the floor and while Devyn would not have minded sitting on the floor she didn't feel like sitting. She felt like pacing around, pulling out her hair, and maybe punch another mirror. Devyn relaxed a little when Beau seemed to get what she was getting at but the feeling soon went away at what he said next. The song would not work? Why not? Didn't girls like it when you sang to them and plus a song or poem was supposed to convey feelings in a way that simple words could not say. "So...a song won't work at all?" Devyn asked, sounding practically heartbroken to hear those words as her green eyes looked down to the ground. No, I won't give up. Beau has to know how to help someway. Devyn thought to herself as her good hand clinched since the other one hurt too much to really do much with it.

She had been taking care of it herself instead of going to the infirmary to have it taken care of like she should have done when she first got hurt. She probably had to tell Beau, give him a bit more and see what he thought. She doubted he could relate in terms of what was done, but at least in terms of loving someone and wanting them back. "I...I slept with someone else on prom...but not like I called them up to do it. They came to talk to me and stuff just happened. Zoe found out about it and when we came back from camping she just...I just...I love her and want her back." Devyn just came out and said it, struggling a little bit towards the end with her words.

Prom? What could someone have done during prom...? Beau could vaguely recall seeing Zoe and Devyn there... and wasn't Zoe tipsy? He seemed to remember hearing or seeing something about that. Maybe...

"Probly not," said Beau, shrugging. "Though it's kinda gonna matter on the way you messed things up," Beau again felt his country song senses tingling. He couldn't shake this feeling that Devyn had really gone and done something major. Could a song make up for something like that? Maybe, maybe if delivered well or whatever. but any song that Beau made would probably need to be sung by him, since Devyn hadn't exactly confessed a blessing of talent in that area.

"Relax a---" began Beau, only to fall silent as Devyn kept going. He kept his gaze steady on him, listening to the words. Slept with... Beau let out a low whistle, leaning back. Excuses followed, but in Beau's general opinion, excuses that followed that quickly didn't work for anyone. "Don't know what to tell ya there," said Beau. He took a deep breath, exhaling it slowly. "'cept that I'm not thinkin' a song's gonna be enough to make it up. I mean, somethin' like that's pretty serious stuff an' all...' Beau paused for a moment, working his lips. Hadn't there been something weird about Devyn's relationship? He seemed to think so, but he couldn't remember.

Part of Devyn's hope was wavering at Beau's words but she refused to give up, refused to admit everything was all over, and she was not going to just lose all hope at Beau's words. She could not. If she did she would fall into a deep depression that she was already struggling to stay out of. If things kept up being more on the decline she didn't know what she was going to do. She sort of just acted without thinking and that had already led to her hurting her hand. She was already starting to think back to what she had done over her first real love and breakup. She did give up right away yes, but the depression and the things she had done after were not good and she really didn't want to go down the road again. Beau was her main hope, but not her only one if she really thought about it. She still just wanted his help mainly because as far as Devyn was concerned, he was the one with a really successful relationship with his girlfriend.

Devyn heard Beau told her to relax, but his words cut off as she went on talking, trying to explain everything. She hoped what she had said was enough because just thinking about it brought back the memory of Zoe crying, shaking, and yelling at her. She still could not get over the fact that Zoe actually yelled and threatened her, but mostly could not get over the fact that Zoe didn't even give her a chance. Devyn didn't break up with Zoe when Zoe almost killed her, didn't break up with her when Zoe told her that she loved Devyn. She kept holding onto Zoe because she wanted her but she messed up by sleeping with someone on stupid prom and everything was over. Sure prom was special but it was just Devyn's Junior prom and they would have been able to go to Senior prom together. "Then what will make up for it Beau? I'm not here to hear about how hard or what might not work. I need your help with what might work and what to do. I have to get her back." Devyn said as she took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a moment.

Green eyes opening after a moment and looking to Beau, basically begging with her eyes for Beau's help. "I only like half get why she is upset with me, but we were in an open relationship and I didn't like break any rule there. I was even going to ask for it to be a closed relationship, but she didn't even give me a chance." Devyn said, rubbing at her eyes and taking yet another deep breath. That was what hurt most of all. The fact that Zoe didn't even give her a chance to show that she would be a better girlfriend when Devyn had been working so hard at making herself better in order to make Zoe happy.

What would make up for it? Beau stared at Devyn, wondering just how the heck he was supposed to know the answer to that. He wasn't in the relationship, had only heard bits and pieces during training sessions and from Liz. Though it sounded like Liz had talked to Zoe right before the girl had decided to break up. Weird how that worked out... and it made Beau wonder if his girlfriend didn't have something to do with it.

Great, now he was gonna have to ask.

Before Beau could respond at all, Devyn kept going. The Southerner fell silent, listening as his friend continued. Open relationship... was going to ask to close it... "I'm guessin' that's part of the problem right there," suggested Beau, nodding. "Been my experience that most girls ain't really lookin' for a relationship to be open an' all. They want to be your one an' only an' all, don't wanna know that you're crawlin' into other girls' beds at night or whatever. Plus, didn'tja say she loved you or somethin'?" Beau raised his brows there. Clearly Devyn was much more used to the whole seduction and leave them thing, if he couldn't have even figured this out.

And now he'd gone and wrecked himself.

Suddenly, Beau was wishing they had beer. This was definitely a conversation that would go down a lot easier with some alcohol in them.

Devyn rubbed at her face with her left hand, feeling frustrated and that her mood was quickly going on the uncontrolled in. It was not Beau's fault; she had to keep reminding herself of that. Just because he had a successful relationship that looked happy, didn't mean he knew all the answer on how to make a girl happy. Devyn could hope but again it felt like she was going to have to try things along like she always did. This sucked because she had already told him almost everything and now it seemed like he was not even going to be able to help her. Maybe if I was more specific. That I just need his help with getting Zoe to at least give me a chance. Devyn thought to herself as she let out yet another deep breath. Beau pointed out how girls tended to not like open relationship. Devyn knew that was true but she got lucky here and there with girls that were fine with it and Zoe never said anything on it.

"We agreed from the start of it that it could be open because I can't have sex with her. Sorry if that is too much information, but she did agree and she never actually brought up wanting to close the relationship. Yeah, I should have known but..." Devyn said as she knew that she could not just blame it on Zoe and she should have asked for a closed relationship soon. Devyn's green eyes looked to Beau for a moment before looking to the ground when he pointed out in a question manner about Devyn loving Zoe. "I...I didn't really realize it was love until after. After all if you were just with a girl that you had a lot of chemistry with but you still want to be with the other girl you can't even touch skin to skin very long...then it has to be love right? Plus I was still working through it all and only recently been able to actually say it but...she didn't even seem to care." Devyn said as she began to move around a little bit, unable to stay still for this conversation and figured if she kept moving it keep her from losing control.

"I like... I stopped sleeping around after that, worked on things I remember her mentioning here and there and after the camping trip I was going to ask her. To tell her how I felt, but she just didn't...damn it I feel like I need a smoke or some shots." Devyn groaned after, squatting down and putting her face into her hand as she tried to calm down some more. She felt like a mess and that she was bothering Beau when he had other things to do. Probably better things to do then help Devyn try to get back something that she didn't even get to fully experience. "I just need her to give me a chance..." Devyn mumbled out as she kept her face hidden in her hands.

Agreed from the start; sounded like they agreed to set up a relationship that was doomed to fail, in Beau's opinion. He seemed to vaguely recall Devyn mentioning the whole open thing before. Sounded bad then; sounded worse now. Devyn looked like he'd come to realize that though, and Beau didn't see the point in rubbing salt in still open wounds. Devyn kept going, talking about love and working through things and...

and Beau kept listening, getting a feeling like he knew this story. It almost sounded like it should've had a happy ending: the rambling player learning that he loved a girl and settling down. The playing had just gone a little longer, and the patient woman hadn't been quite a willing... though Beau wondered if Devyn was cutting off some details. Well, so what if he was? He was entitled to. Hell, he didn't need to tell Beau nothing he didn't want to.

Beau nodded as Devyn finished, walking forward and giving the guy a clap on the shoulder. "We definitely need shots or somethin'. There's a few places in town I could probably get us a little somethin', an' I think I know a guy who's got some booze stashed away," Beau grinned, "so lets get you a little bit. See if you can't dim the memories for a while," because sometimes you needed to wallow and just feel it before you could move on, and it sounded like Devyn definitely needed to do just that.

Devyn honestly should have figured out sooner that having an open relationship with a girl like Zoe would not work out. It was just because she was didn't want to have to deal with the sexual frustration of Zoe's power. They had been friends before it all and Devyn knew of how Zoe's power work and when they officially started going out it just proved to Devyn that they would never be able to go all the way. So she figured being in an open relationship would work and Zoe never made a real fuss about it so she thought things were fine. Maybe I really am selfish. Devyn was thinking to herself again as she just told herself to start looking more closely. To read the signs and even if said signs worried her or made her want to avoid them she could not.

She had to start speaking up and trying to get Zoe to talk to her more, if she could get Zoe back. No, she could not think in 'ifs', she had to think of when she would get Zoe back. Devyn wished there had been a happy ending to it all and it was her goal to at least try and get that happy ending. If Zoe would not be her girlfriend than she had to at least have Zoe as a friend again. She wanted Zoe in her life and always would want to keep a friend over a relationship if she could help it. Beau moved closer then and Devyn automatically tossed up her guard. She didn't actually do anything besides mentally preparing herself for whatever. She just felt so weak and pathetic that she could not help but feel ready for a fight when Beau moved closer to her, but he simply touched her shoulder and agreed that they needed some drinks.

Devyn smiled a little to hear that Beau apparently seemed up to go get some drinks with Devyn, and while they were both underage. Devyn knew for a fact she could pass for older with her fake ID and figured a guy like Beau; who she remembered had drank before, would be able to get his hands on some drinks as well. "I think I'm going to need more than a little bit." Devyn admitted with a small chuckle as she ran her fingers through her hair, calming down at the idea of going to get some drinks. "I should probably warn you that I'm sort of a lightweight." Devyn warned Beau as she already started to move to leave Beau's room and follow the older boy since she figured he know of a close place to go. If not she would offer up some beers she had hidden in her room.

"...thanks for umm...listening and stuff." Devyn said after a moment, and while sure they had not had like a super long talk, they were still talking and Devyn just appreciated it.

Beau chuckled as Devyn said it would take more than a little bit. That meant sneaking into one of the bars. Matt's made the most sense: Beau knew the owner and could generally get away with a little more there. He figured that Devyn likely had a fake ID... technically, so did Beau. was tucked away in his guitar case though.

"Well, that'll jus' make it a little easier to drown the memories," replied Beau, drawling as he always did. He flashed Devyn another grin and nodded before gesturing once more for the other to follow. "I figure we'll--" he began, before stopping as Devyn thanked him. Beau chuckled, stopped, and turned to shrug. "Ain't nothin' to worry 'bout. People often tell musicians stuff like this. 'sides, I'm probly gonna get a helluva song outta this whole mess."

Beau ended that with a wink before gesturing for Devyn to follow again. "We'll hit up Matt's. I know the owner, and it's probly one of the looser joints in town if you know what you're doin'. Still be a good idea to have a faker on ya if you got one," he looked over at Devyn and raised his brows. They could always swing by somewhere and pick one up for him, if it came to it.

Devyn honestly didn’t care where they would end up for their little drinking with one another; she just knew she wanted something to drink and a lot of it. If she could not sleep around to ignore what was bothering her then she was going to use one of the other methods that helped get her mind off of things. That means sleeping, working out, or drinking; since she didn’t feel like doing the other two at the moment, drinks were the best bet. “Yeah, can already tell the hangover is going to be hell.” Devyn added on after Beau’s words about hot that meant it would be easier to drown the memories. Devyn did still find it very interesting that a guy like Beau was one for drinking the pain away. She should have figured with the whole country guy sort of thing, but she just still found it hard to believe that Beau did anything illegal on purpose.

Not that she was going to debate such a matter at the moment when she was more than happy to have someone going out to drink with her. Plus with Beau, there would be less temptation to try anything when she would end up drunk. He was taken and had made it very clear that he was not interested in Devyn and she didn’t even get that hint of a feeling that she normally got from people who said they were not interested, but really were. Devyn followed Beau willingly and just gave a small smile at Beau chuckling off her thanks. He said to not worry, that he as a musician had to deal with this sort of thing, and would probably get a song out of it. “One that would help or just one of those drunk talk ones about how much you love your beer?” Devyn asked in a teasing manner, fine with either result, but if it was a song that would help she would be all the more thankful.

She just wanted Zoe back and would do whatever she had to in order to make that happen. Devyn gave a nod, starting to smirk a little at hearing that Beau knew the owner of Matt’s Hole in the Wall. Devyn knew the place well; even if she visited the night club scene more often than she actually did the bar. “Course I have one. What is a former player who does not have a faker?” Devyn asked in a slight amused tone as she already fumbled around in her pocket with her good hand until she obtained her wallet. Opening it up and showing her fake ID to Beau before going to put it away in a separate pocket for quick and easy access.
