Lydia blew a stray hair out of her face as she leaned against the wall outside of the computer club meeting area. Her mother had made it fairly clear that her interacting with peers should be pretty much mandatory and her teachers had pushed and harassed her until she came to this stupid computer club summer testing thing.
It wasn't even school term but she still was being forced to do stuff with people she had never met and most likely would not like. She would just end up being the lone girl in a room of sweaty geeks who knew how to make their gaming PC's as the extent of their knowledge. It had happened at every club she had been to, without fail.
She had also managed to get hit on at them more than once. This was so, completely and utterly dumb.
She heard the teacher/chaperone, who she had heard wasn't even the official for the computer club, call them in. She strolled in with her hands in her pockets, careful not to touch anyone or even brush up against them because she could not be bothered to go through the pain of being forced to interact even further with them through the pain in the ass that was apologising over and over again to a person she had shocked.
She naturally took one of the seats in the corner, whereas most of the other teens were in the middle of the room. Who all appeared to be guys, apart for one or two girls who looked somewhat lost in the room to her. She sighed as the teacher continued to shepherd them in.

Erin was still settling in to her apartment in Kalispell where she as staying whiles she waited for the school year at Bellefonte Academy to start up again. She would end up being a Junior at this school and had already pretty much gone and signed up for dorm housing and even a few clubs. She of course was not joining any sports because that was way too much work and physical activity for her. The club that she was the most interested in was one that involved computers. Of course she was going to show up to a place where they had computers, computers and video games were pretty much her life. Her father's life to, but he was not here to join the club; Erin was. Still she had been in the middle of a Call of Duty round with some gamming friends and thus was running late to the little computer club sign up and learn about what kind of things the club did or whatever meeting.
She did something of a small job, wearing her typical clothing style with a backpack on her back that had her laptop as well as some other techie gear. After getting on the campus she had to ask for directions since she had no clue where she was going and needed to get on the next tour around the school so she would not get lost at every turn when school started. She was for sure late by the time she got to the room where the club was having its meeting. People were already settled in the room and the person in charge of the club was already talking. Erin just walked in there like it was no big deal, grabbing a seat towards the front since people seemed to like sitting more so in the middle or back of a class room. She looked around the room, not really impressed with the people in the room; well the girls were impressive but those were her hormones talking.
"L, four, slash, back-slash, slash, back-slash, three." Erin said with a disappointed groan leaving her lips. She could wipe the floor with all these computers skilled want to be. Still, not everyone could be good as her and she would only brag if provoked or the right words were said and she felt the need to let others know of her skills. She still would always keep it hush-hush about just how good she was.

Lydia felt like laughing as she overheard the conversation that some of her 'peers' were having. They were like kids compared to her. She couldn't blame them, most people did it as a hobby, it was Lydia's life. She pulled the ethernet plug from the PC and flipped out her laptop next to it instead, using the cable so she would be connected to the local network.
The teacher raised an eyebrow to her and she shrugged. He then continued explaining what the students would be doing. "Many of you will enjoy coding, others will enjoy gaming, others will like tinkering with hardware, sometimes a little of each." More like a lot of each in Lydia's case.
He explained that they had an a projector hooked up the room's main computer, and any student currently on the local network would be able to control it with the right passwords so that they could colaborate to code for a database and website to house school information. Lydia gave herself a silent chuckle as she traced her finger across the trackpad, already having logged into the computer without needing to ask for the passwords.
No, this teacher was way out of his league. The way he spoke about what he was talking about was all wrong, she suspected he had relatively basic I.T training, to help teach some of the younger kids. But she wasn't just any computer geek.
She inconspicuously peered over the top of her monitor occasionally at a red headed girl who entered late and seemed to Lydia to have some air of arrogance around her. Of course, many of the guys in the room did as well. She guessed she was about to see if any of them were all bark or bite. She popped her headphones in as the other kids attempted to log in, getting confused with the passwords and captcha mechanisms in place.
She was staring at the spot on her screen showing the green blip, it had her screen name on it which of course, none of them would recognise as only about 3 students in the school knew it. She waited for somebody else to get online wondering if anyone in here actually knew how to code or hack a simple password... Not that the latter half was legal, but it was fun.

Erin was more focused on looking over the computers around the room, looking at the make of them and figuring when they were manufactured. What she did was a hobby for her. It was a passion that she enjoyed but it was still a hobby for her since she already knew that her father was going to have her work with him at the Security Firm after she got done with high school and at least two years of college. Really she did not need to go to college but her father recommended it for the sake of being able to get more money just for having a degree. Made sense, and she planned on doing the whole college thing for at least two year. Past that, she could not be sure since she found school to be a huge waste of time. Even this whole club meeting and the talking she felt like it was a waste of time. She would have honestly preferred to show up, sign a paper, and then leave to go play another Call of Duty match.
Erin's mind had already mentally checked out to what the teacher was saying as she thought about if she was going to bring her own personal desktop to keep in her dorm room or leave it at home. Her mind wondering around to thoughts about video games, computers, and of course on the few females that were in the room. The projector flashed up an image which brought Erin back to what was going on. Apparently the teacher wanted her to log into the computer and what not. Erin taking a moment to run her fingers of the keyboard before pulling up a small window in the system setting, easily was finding the password within the code and putting it in to allow her to gain access into the computer.
She didn't pull off anything complicated, not wanting to ever show just how much skill she had on the computer. It was always best to leave people guessing. Once in she did a look around the room, leaning back in her chair and sighing as if she had put together some child’s puzzle and had been terribly bored. She didn't even need to use her hacking skill on such a test, which was good but still terribly boring. Her login name appeared up with the only other persons in the room who apparently figured it out as well. The other username seemed familiar and had Erin squinting at it for a moment, but didn't say anything. Her mind running though if she was simply seeing things or that just the name was familiar was all. "Are you at least going to give a time limit so those of us who are already done are not sitting here bored out of our minds?" Erin asked the club teacher.
Then looked over to the girl with headphones in her ears since she clearly was the one that was done since she was not doing anything either. Mouthing out the words 'that was so easy’; since she didn't want to waste her time talking if the other girl was not going to hear her.

The girl rolled her eyes at all of the confused kids. She wasn't even sure what they were getting so confused or arrogant, thinking they could work out the passwords. Why didn't they just ask the teacher? They were just little kids trying to show off and failing miserably.
She let out a faint sigh as she combed through the other computer and took a measure of it's systems, she blinked when another green blip showed up, although this one wasn't holding a teacher ID. So there was somebody else in here who was able to get in this easily? Not as quickly as her of course, but still It was unexpected.
Calm down Lydia, it's a simple trick and it's not like you have got anything to prove anyway, why are you getting competitive for no reason? Lydia silently scolded herself for being silly. She looked up as one of the students, the redhead across the room said something which took the teacher aback a little. She wasn't sure what it was due to the music though.
The other girl mouthed something at her that looked smug, as if she was trying to enlist joint gloating at being better than everyone else. Lydia playfully smirked and raised an eyebrow. The teacher glanced over at her and said something, she popped the headphones out to hear him.
"Everything alright over there Miss.... Faust is it? We aren't boring you too much that you cannot even attempt to log in like the rest of the students are we?" Some of the kids laughed, one or two which recognised her from another class glanced at her cautiously.
"Well now that you mention it, sir. I am a little suprised that you haven't logged into the server before any of your students, there are two people in there already~" It was one of those ways of saying a polite address like 'Sir', but making it sound like 'Asshole'

The teacher was taken aback by Erin's words, but she didn't really care since she felt like it was a legitimate question to ask. She hated doing things that were simple or that she could not see as benefiting her in the future. That was why she did so badly in school. Time and time again she saw that really people didn't use past what they learned in elementary school and even then in college it was a waste of time if you went for four years because your first two years would be wasted on doing what you had already done in high school but just at a higher level. She preferred to do things that would actually help her get better at what she would do and would look good on a resume to help her get a job. Even if she was assured a job at her father's company, it was still good to always have a backup plan.
When Erin mothered her words to the other girl in the room that was done with this simple little trick, she just got a smirk and a raised eyebrow in return. Not really sure if the girl actually had been able to read her lips and since she didn't bother to say anything out loud there would be no way the blonde would hear her. Erin turned around to look at the teacher that started talking, apparently to the other girl that was done, calling her Miss Faust. So that was her name, her last name, but Erin was used to people being called by their last names but without the Miss or Mr. tacked onto. They were students after all and where Erin had grown up they did not get such a title placed on them. A few kids laughed, Erin did not since while she had pretty much done it like she was supposed to, the other girl had done it another way. Giving Erin the indication that the other girl had to have skills passed just the basic no how to get passed the code.
"She does have a point." Erin added after the Faust girl made her point and Erin could so clearly hear the hidden tone behind the girl's voice. Pretty much everyone had to unless they were just bad at reading peoples tones and body language. From this distance Erin was feeling bold. Bold enough to get up and move towards the back of the room and at least be in the seat next to the other girl who had skills in the way of computers. Sitting down in the chair did bring back that more shyer version of herself that caused her to hesitate for a moment and she leaned forward in her seat a little bit before looking over to the blonde. "Say, you want to get out of here and actually go do something fun on a computer?" Erin asked in a whisper, half tempted to use her power to make sure they would not be heard at all, but that would also cause them to disappear form the other's view.

Lydia rolled her eyes as people were whispering crap and the teacher was taken aback by the two of them. It wasn't as if Lydia was trying to verbally attack the teacher or anything. She was just trying to point out that she was way ahead of him. It was probably because he was a male teacher. They always seemed to be a pain.
The teachers brow furrowed at the two of them, as if he was trying to work out what to do with them. Lydia was a good student as far as grades were concerned, she just wasn't exactly sociable at the moment. It wasn't really her though, and she had actually come here to meet people, or see what it was like here.
She had thought, maybe this club is a little different to all of the others, she rolled her eyes even more as she noted that one of the kids was sitting at a computer watching anime. Probably just here so that he could use the computer to watch that crap.
"You two are lucky that this isn't an actual class, or you two would have been removed so that I could deal with you later. You should show more respect." He stated. Surely of himself.
She rolled her eyes again and nodded at the other girl's comment. "And with that. Sir, I think I shall be taking my leave. Maybe if there is an advanced class with a competent teacher at some point I'll take another look." She closed her laptop gently.

Erin didn't mean to be outright disrespectful; she just didn't feel like wasting her time when she could do other things with her time. She had only shown up because she heard that this was where she could sign up for the club. She would just go through the school to sign up for the club then since this was too much of a bother. Having to do this little test and not even have something to do after. It was just all rather boring and a waste of time in Erin's opinion. "Sorry teach. I'll be a little nicer in class. Maybe." Erin said this with a smile as she made sure she had everything and started to get up to leave. She was not going to stay here and waste her time. He father said she had to try in school; this was not an official class so she did not have to try to be good or in general be all the nice to the staff.
The other girl that was also done with the whole little test this teacher had set up looked like she was going to be leaving as well. She was already packing up her laptop and making a comment to the teacher. Bringing up the whole 'if there is an advanced class with a competent teacher at some point' that she would take another look. Wow, this girl had more stone then Erin had while being in the same room with a person. Over a video game or the computer she could easily say those things and then more, but no way face to face and while in the same room. Erin just shook her head with surprise and moved out of the room, waiting for the other girl to show up before hesitantly stepping in front of her and already blushing a little. "Hey, I just wanted to say that was pretty bold of you in there." Erin said as her light brown eyes avoided the other girl’s eyes as she took a step back.

Lydia slid her laptop under her arm, and breezed passed the gaping teacher, several students were stopped dead, a pair of them were clapping and a few of them were scowling. It was pretty much everything from praise to condemnation, with a sprinkle of indifference here and there from the other students. She didn't really care though, she just wanted to get out of there.
The room was stuffy, the teacher was a bloody idiot and not at all qualified to teach an advanced I.T class. She stormed out in a not so stormy way for her, funnily enough. Lydia smiled at the other girl as she ran into her, she was actually kind of cute.
She shrugged. "I've been in so many computer clubs and classes with dumbass guys as the teacher, that particular teacher isn't really qualified. It was like, a waste of time or whatever." She stuck her hands into her jean pockets, suddenly feeling a little bit embarrassed by the whole ordeal.
"Sorry if I got you into trouble or whatever, I just really hate feeling looked down on by guys like that, especially if I'm better than them at this stuff." She felt a small tint of red touch her cheeks. It was silly. Why did she feel bad? The other girl had suggested leaving, but she still felt as if any trouble the other girl would be in would be her fault.

Erin was already out of the room and waiting for the other girl to come out so she missed the whole reaction of the class and the teacher. She was not one for sticking around after being bold after all since deep down her was still pretty much a shy girl. Her head ducked low for a moment as she glanced around and worked on what she was going to say to the other girl when she came out. Thankfully that had gone pretty smooth or at least relatively smooth and she was actually able to get the words out without sounding like she was struggling to speak. Now seeing the other girl on a closer level she already felt her heart start to beat a little faster and was just hoping that she did not start to blush or make a complete idiot out of herself. When in doubt, back up. Erin told herself, finding that just putting space between her and someone worked wonders.
Erin nodded half paying attention to what the girl was saying but mostly her eyes were locked on the other girl’s lips for a moment. I bet they are soft. They look soft. Focus Erin! Erin told herself as she looked back at all of the girls face, focusing on her eyes. Good thing she still caught most of what was being said about the whole teacher and having been in the classes before. "Oh I understand, I hate doing things that are a waste of time." Erin agreed and then started to shake her head no and blush a little when the other girl started to apologize to her. Erin was not worried about getting into trouble. Erin said what she wanted to say and left by her own choice, not because of what the other girl said. Plus the girl had said things a bit more over the edge so more than likely people were going to remember what the other girl said over what Erin had said. Good for me.
"You didn't get me in trouble at all. I wanted to leave. Don't even worry about it." Erin said, speaking a little fast, feeling the blush rising in her face as well but that was mainly because she saw the little bit of blush appearing on the other girl's face. If this kept up Erin would more than likely start spurting nonsense and just end up scaring the other girl off. "I'm Hackett. Erin Hackett." Erin introduced herself and hesitantly offered out her hand, hoping that just giving her full name would make up for giving her last name. She was about to give up on breaking that habit and just deal with people calling her by her last name. "Want to go get a drink or something, since we are not dealing with that nonsense in there?" Erin quickly asked then after her introduction, not wanting to get the whole awkward silence that would likely follow because her mind would wonder off.
Post by Lydia Faust on Aug 20, 2014 18:18:08 GMT -6
Lydia smiled gently, attempting to reassure the other girl. She seemed to be feeling slightly awkward at the suddenly closer interaction. It was kind of amusing considering how bold she had been earlier, but now that they were physically closer that confidence seemed to fade somewhat.
Why did it feel like the other girl was staring at her? Lydia wasn't quite sure. But it seemed to be a thing. She was never sure what to think when people were staring at her or studying her. Many things would run through her head, for a girl who generally portrayed a lot of confidence, and a lack of desire to socialise a massive amount it was odd to think that the least likely thought to cross her mind would be that the other party might find her attractive.
Thoughts such as studying her for obvious weaknesses, morbid curiosity about her mutation or the best place to hit her or throw something at her would cross her mind, maybe even that the person admired her in some way, but never attractiveness.
She smiled. "I'm Lydia. And sure. A drink sounds like fun." She slung her bag over her shoulder, making sure her laptop was secure as if she were busy guarding gold, or a small child. And then gestured for the other girl to lead on. She was a computer girl, she couldn't be bad company right? Right.

The smile helped a little but it also made things worse for Erin, because another girl was smiling at her. Even if the smile was not flirtatious or anything like that, it was still a smile that was directed at her. Erin could feel her heartbeat in her chest, practically hear it in her ears, but figured that she was probably just thinking about it too much and just causing it to beat faster. This was nothing, they were just talking. Talking about simple things that should not get her heart racing or anything like that. Calm down Erin. You are totally going to start coming off as one of those totally creepy guys on the internet that freaks out every time they hear a girls voice on a mic. Erin thought to herself as she casually took a step back to get some more space and regain some confidence.
Erin was staring, trying not to but she was on and off. Looking from the girls lips, to her eyes, and then started to drift down for a moment until the other girl spoke. Lydia, that was her name and she was up for getting a drink. Erin did a mental fist bump but on the outside just smiled and nodded her head one to many times perhaps. Seeing the gesture and turned to lead the way. "It's nice to meet you Lydia. You have a pretty name to. Fits well with you." Erin said and mentally face palmed at how unsmooth she felt that had come out. Fits well with you? No, Erin. You say something more like she has a cute name that goes well with her because she is cute. Then again, that is like repeating yourself. Erin's mind wondered a little as she led the way with no real concern for her laptop because she had an awesome Swish backpack.
"So, Lydia. How long have you been at the school and what is your power. If you don't mind me asking. We can talk about computers or video games if you would like that better." Erin spoke up, feeling a little calmer now that they were moving and that she was making sure to keep some space between her and the other girl.

Lydia continued smiling at the other girl and gestured for them to start walking towards the area where they could get a drink and chill out. She was kind of glad school wasn't currently in term, because it was kind of nice to have the time to do stuff like this during the day. She already had a feeling she was probably going to be giving the other girl her details by the end of the day, she seemed really cool.
Lydia coughed awkwardly as she felt a tint of red touch her cheeks. "Um... Thank you." Why did she have to say something like that? Now Lydia just felt awkward. Especially considering Erin was a rather pretty girl herself and Lydia hadn't really commented on that herself.
She did her best to shake it off as she walked, only to be fully jarred out of it by a question which brought a different kind of awkward out of her. "Ummm.... I haven't been here that long, and talking about computers and stuff might be nice..." She played with her hair awkwardly. She realllllly didn't like her power and She didn't really like telling people it either.

There was that cough that the Lydia let out after Erin’s complement, making her wonder if maybe she came on too strong or just said it wrong. Why could they not have met over the internet where Erin felt like she was the Queen of Smooth? She was already starting to get a little worried, but eased up when the other girl thanked her. There was that ‘umm’ there, making the matter still a little uncertain over all. “I’m sorry if that made you…uncomfortable.” Erin managed to get out as she felt like using her power now to disappear and just run away. She was a failure, a totally unl33t failure who didn’t deserve to like girls or even be around them. Okay, being a little over dramatic now. Erin thought to herself as she calmed down a little bit. At least Lydia had not said something like ‘you’re stupid, I’m straight, or not interested’ so those were all good signs.
Erin started to feel the negative signs were showing up again as she could just feel the awkward coming off of the other girl. Damn, when did I get so bad at this? Erin asked herself as she put a little more distance between herself and the other girl. Lydia had not been here long and suggested that talking about computers and stuff might be nice. Keyword, might. Just buy her a drink and leave her be. She is going to like hate you or think you are some psycho at this rate. Erin was thinking to herself again as she sort of started to duck her head down a little bit. “I see…I just recently transferred over here and computers a cool, so yeah…talking about them.” Erin said, still fumbling a little as she already worked on getting out her wallet as they got closer to where they could get drinks.
“Sorry for asking about your power. You clearly don’t want to talk about it so I’ll buy you a drink to make up for it?” Erin asked but was more so offering, just trying to salvage any of this at all. She certainly felt that she was not going to be getting any numbers or a ‘we should meet up again and hang out’ from this girl at the rate things were going.

Lydia hadn't been in awkward situations THAT much recently. However this was most certainly up there. After the compliment, Lydia seemed to shift to looking at Erin as someone who had complimented her. Meaning she was doing her best to not stare at Erin's adorable face and hair and....
The blonde tried to shake it off again. She really needed to stop crushing on every pretty girl who walked past her and smiled at her. She smiled at the other girl, trying to shift the awkward away. "Noooo. It's alright, I just don't really like talking, or thinking about it all that much really." She mumbled slightly awkwardly.
She hoped her cheeks still didn't show some level of red. That would be sucky. Yup. That wouldn't be great. "It's alright, I've been here a little while.... meaning like, a few months.... I think my power is a late one." Nope. Don't think about your power. You are doing so well. no shocking. NO. SHOCKING.
She smiled at the other girl. "Y- You don't need to make up for it. It's me that doesn't want to talk about it. Let's just move on." She smiled more. Ugh. The other girl was cute.
