NAME: Charlotte Amelia Roswell
NICKNAME: Charlie, always Charlie
AGE: 17
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
POSITION: Bellefonte Student
FACE CLAIM: Taylor Swift
POWER:
Electrokinesis
For Charlie Roswell, lightning runs through her veins. Not literally but you get the idea. Charlie’s body has the ability to capture, store, and release electricity. She can absorb electricity through either direct contact with a power source or by being close enough to attract it to her body (within a foot or two). From there her body is able to store it until it is needed. When needed, she can release it in small lightning bolts from her body though most commonly from her hands and feet. However Charlie does not have a good ability to generate electricity and needs to replenish it when depleted. Although she barely uses it this way, she also has the ability to charge electronic devices such as phones but that require direct contact unless the object is set up to charge wirelessly.
LimitationsCharlie can’t always turn her power off which can cause static electricity to be released through her skin. The unlucky person who touches Charlie without her being aware of it will get a shock similar to wearing wool socks, rubbing them on the carpet, and touching a doorknob. This shock will drain her supply a little as well. This also makes showering and swimming nearly impossible unless she is completely focused which is something she hasn’t mastered yet. If she lost her concentration for a moment the static electricity from all over her body could converge and shock everyone in the same body of water she’s in with the intensity depending on the volume of water. It affects her more severely since she's the source of the power and if too much escapes too quickly then she'll likely be knocked out. It would drain her reserves as well. Sponge baths are her best friends for now since too much water can burn her skin.
On a very good day being well rested and fully charged at
this stage of training, Charlie can shoot lightning fifteen feet from her
hands and she can usually only do about four of these and it feels like being tasered. At about 75 percent it’s a little over eleven feet and feels like holding an electric fence. At 50% it’s about seven and a half feet. At 25% it’s a over three feet and it's about thrice a static shock. The more charged she is, the farther her lightning can go. Most of the energy in her lightning is used in the distance. The longer the distance, the more energy used. Usually she’s about 75-50% charged.
As for the accuracy of her power, that comes with practice and at this stage she can get within a half a foot of her target normally. Only in the rarest cases does she actually hit something dead on while meaning too.
Insulators like rubber aren't affected by her electricity.
Her body can store up to 2,000 mA.
Side-EffectsOvercharging can physically damage her body. On top of getting
a horrible headache she can get burned internally as well which will take a couple
of weeks to heal. The same goes for charging too quickly.Using too much electricity too quickly while cause a quick
but stabbing headache as well as for her arm to warm up and have a burning
sensation.
Electronics aren't easy for Charlie to use since she could short circuit them. Until she has more control, she has to wear rubber gloves to use electronics.Having little electricity in her system leaves her physically
and emotionally fatigued. As her reserves get closer and closer to zero, she becomes mentally impaired and acts like she is very intoxicated. At 8% it's like she has a BAC of 0.10 and at 1%, it's like she has a BAC of 0.28. After hitting 0% she immediately passes out for about 4 ½ hours. It can be longer depending on how quickly the electricity left her system.
APPEARANCE SECTION:
When it comes to social situations, Charlie tends to blend in the with the crowd. However if she were ever in a lineup, her physical features would definitely stand out.
Standing at 5'11'' inches, the first word that comes to mind when people see her is 'TALL'. She towers over nearly every girl her age and feels awkward because of it. This, along with her slim physique and modest personality, really limits the size of her closet. Since shorts and dresses tend to show more leg than she's comfortable, Charlie is rarely seen in them. Instead she prefers skinny jeans, leggings or even an above the knee skirt with some stockings. For her tops she prefers anything horizontally striped and prefers darker clothes, shying away from neons and such. Her height also makes wearing heels very awkward for her so she usually wears Keds or various Ballet flats.
As for her hair, Charlie is with the 2% of the world that's naturally blonde. She keeps it short, billowing just above the shoulders with a bang that runs right to left across her forehead. Since even at it's short length it can get in her way, she pushes everything but the bang away from her head with a black headband.
One of the things that comes with having naturally blonde hair is pale skin and Charlie's is quite fair. Since she prefers the indoors and burns easily, she'll probably never be sighted with a tan. However being fair isn't the most remarkable thing about her. Although most people will never see them, it is important to note that Charlie has multiple scars across her body. Most notably she has many scratches across her back and a bullet wound on her shoulder.
Lastly Charlie has striking pale blue-grey eyes. They normally have a distant quality to them heightened by the fact that she is often a distant person, preferring to read or do anything else really then chat. Eye contact isn't her strong point.
MUST HAVE APPAREL:
Charlie never leaves home without her cracked horn rimmed glasses. The frame was her father's and the lenses are hers but Charlie has yet to find an eye doctor in Bellefonte so they probably aren't going to be fixed soon. When it gets cold out she also wears her father's aviator jacket.
PERSONALITY SECTION:
Like all people, Charlie is defined by her past and in this case it was a violent one. Suffering from the effects of PTSD and further separated from the world by her powers, Charlie tends to keep to herself both physically and mentally, afraid of shocking someone by accident or being triggered into war flashbacks. Because of this Charlie is a woman of few words, tending to sink into the background and read a book or do homework rather than make small chat. However don’t take this quietness for total composure. Oftentimes she feels on edge and any soul unfortunate enough to startle or trigger her will find themselves at the mercy of her quick but efficient combative instinct. A simple tap on the shoulder can end up with Charlie taking someone to the ground and breaking an arm, holding the person down till she realizes her mistake. Usually whenever Charlie meets new people, she's nervous.
However Charlie isn't all silence and anxiety. Close friends know her to quite cheery on the occasions that she talks and when she does start talking, whether it be nervousness or conversation, she tends to do it quite a bit before retreating back into her solitude. Some people can even catch her smiling while she bakes. Anyone that gets close enough knows that she can be a sweet as the cakes she cooks and when she cracks a joke it’s always unexpected and hilarious. Whenever she listens to Elvis on her record player, she loves to sing, lip-sync, and hum along (not all at the same time of course). It’s a shame she feels distanced from other people though, because overall she is quite a sweet girl but her past and uneasiness with her powers makes her reluctant to form connections. This inability to make connections can make her a bit angry and frustrated but she almost never verbally takes this out on other people.
Overall Charlie can be a tough person to form connections with but when someone does she'll be their friend from life and will protect them if need be.
EXTRA QUIRKS:
Charlie enjoys baking but she almost never eats what she bakes. She is an exceptional cake designer. Whenever she feels safe enough she stargazes with a telescope given to her by her adoptive father, Noah Shepard. She loves the smell of peppermint and always keeps Altoids in her pocket since it helps ground her during flashbacks.

CHILDHOOD:
Charlie was born on January 1st, 1997 to Sanne and Daniel Roswell in Glenwood Springs Colorado. Charlie doesn't remember much of her mom save for a few visits, phone calls, and Birthday and Christmas presents every year. Sanne was never the real motherly type and though there is no doubt that she loved her daughter, it was always clear that she was an ambitious, career minded individual. So when she became fed up with her job as a small town journalist, she contacted her old friend from college, Noah Shepard, a lawyer from Massachusetts, who then contacted some of his friends from law school who were elected to congress, and got a job at the US embassy in Afghanistan after Charlie turned three. She planned to make it big by working during the day and writing media pieces at night. Daniel wasn't too fond of this idea but knew from the moment he met her that she was driven person. So he let her follow her dreams while he stayed at home and raised their daughter.
Thus Charlie was raised a Daddy's girl. In her mother's absence, Charlie became the girl of the house, helping out her dad with the chores and helping him cook and bake. She also developed an interest in his music collection with was composed entirely of Elvis Presley records. Daniel worked as a local family doctor so the family live well enough. He used the extra money to send her to a local catholic school for a good education when she turned five. Charlie excelled there in history and foreign and classical languages. Since the Roswells weren't big on TV or electronics and drawing wasn't really her forte, Charlie began reading and grew attached to books.

As she grew older, Sanne stopped visiting less and less until Charlie hadn't seen her mother in over four years. The phone calls were nice but weren't the same thing as her being there. So for Charlie's 14th birthday, Daniel decided that if she couldn't visit them, then they'd visit her.
On the way back to the hotel from the embassy, a bomb went off near the car, flipping it over and collapsing a nearby building. Violence broke out through the streets and another skirmish began taking its toll. Daniel and Sanne suffered serious injuries while Charlie only suffered moderate. While pulling them out of the car in an attempt to get two safety, her father was shot and her mother succumbed to her injuries. Charlie ran through the streets taking a stray bullet to the shoulder but kept on running. Eventually after a few days she found her way back to the embassy. After being treated for her wounds at a military hostpital, she was sent back to America to live with her godfather.
ADOLESCENCE:
About seven months after her arrival back to the states, Charlie developed her electric powers while showering one day. She tried to step in but every water droplet that touched hurt her. She went back to the mirror and sink to calm herself but ended up too close to the electrical socket and small streams electricity leapt toward her hand. She told Alex about it who said that her brother Shep had been experiencing the same things but with gravity. Their family contacted Bellefonte Academy and in three days she was picked up.
Adjusting at Bellefonte was difficult. She developed PTSD after being there for two weeks and for the longest time the only person she could talk to was the librarian and her councilor. This along with her electrokinesis made her unwilling to talk to other people and practice her powers so her control developed slower than the students around her. Little by little she began to master her abilities and talk at book club but in her three years there the only real friend she had was her adoptive brother. Overall though, she did find a small happiness at Bellefonte in her solitude, whether cooking, stargazing, or reading, it's one of the few places where she began to feel safe.
SAMPLE:
Gunshots in the distance. Indistinct shouting. Pain. Crunching on the ground. A rush. Anger. So much pain. Heightened shouting. Screams from all around. People running. Confusion. An explosion resounded. Crumbling. Silence.
Charlie gasped for breath and jolted upright in bed, thunder sounding and lightning cracking right outside her bedroom window, temporarily illuminating the scared girl inside. Grasping the sheets on top of her and holding them tight, her breaths became shallow and rapid as her eyes darted across the room. She forced her eyes shut and curled and flexed her fingers, trying compose herself. Slowly, one by one, her breaths became longer until her chest rose up and down with the gentleness of an ocean. The rain pattered on the roof and gave a gentle shooshing sound to the room. Lightning struck once more in the distance and thunder rolled. She winced.
“You’re safe, Charlie. You’re safe,” She said to herself, not sure whether she fully believed that or not. It had been three years since she last saw a firefight but she had been reliving those times nearly every day since.
She turned to her side table and pulled out the drawer, wiping the cold sweat from her forehead with a towel and taking an altoid. The strong mint flavor filled her mouth and the calm finally settled to her bones.
Charlie let her head fall back to her pillow. Her gaze went up to the ceiling and she stared at the fan making it's gentle whirring rounds. Her eyes trailed the blades until sleep took her once more.
