If You Could Turn Back Time

[Blake Harlow]

Blake had been handed the file of a girl that recently was returning to the school after being more or less at the infirmary or wherever the school kept kids with a medical problem. Blake never met the girl and didn't really know too much about her other then what she had been told and what was on the girls file. Charlotte Larkson had a problem with not eating and more or less had to be monitored, lucky for her she missed out on all the events of SPECTRE. Blake did too so it was not really a big deal and in a way was a good thing if you thought about it. Not that Blake planned on bringing up SPECTRE or the girls eating problem. Nope, that was not her job. Her job was to train the girl since she had already missed so many lessons while she been out. Blake having gotten the file as well from the girls other trainer and was reading everything over on the file while she waited for the girl to show up.

"Charlotte, Elizabeth, Larkson. Age seventeen. Time Manipulation. Oh that will be fun." Blake said allowed to herself as she read things over. Reading a bit more on what was written up about the girl's power, still going to have to ask her about it when she would get there. Blake already a little eager to try and copy the power and she just how it worked. She was actually not wearing a dog tag at the moment, having set the folder down to look at her dog tags to see which she should wear that would work with this girl the best. She figured she was going to have to wait until she actually saw the girl and got a good understanding of her before she could be sure of that. For now she put on her yen and yang dog tag and waited, pulling out a lollypop and started to suck on it while playing with some gummy bears she had.

The one thing Charlie had missed the most while away was using her mutation. It wasn't until she wasn't able to use it, that she realized how much a part of her it was. It wasn't that she stopped, slowed, or rewound time often, or even daily, but the fact that she couldn't do it felt unnatural. When she was released the time away from that part of her brain or whatever it was that controlled her ability had become buggy and she had been glitching left and right. So, extra training sessions to get her back in shape it would be.

What she hadn't expected though was to be paired with a trainer she'd never had before.

"Harlow." Charlie read on the small slip of paper she'd been given with the room number and time she was to meat this elusive Harlow character.

"Hello?" Charlie said, planting on one of her signature smiles as she greeted the new trainers in hopes that this wasn't going to be some secret therapy session. That was the only reason she could think of that they would give her a new trainer at such an odd time. "I'm Charlie. I'm here for training." She said as she stepped into the room trying to look as bright, happy, and untroubled as possible incase her suspicions were correct. If they were, this would only work in her benefit, if they weren't, she was still on the fast road to faking it till she made it and she was damn sick of being pinned as anything other than who she was, Charlie. Charlie the happy go lucky ray of sunshine with a wild streak. She was heart set on becoming that girl today and she'd start now.

A voice said hello as the door to their training room was opened. Blake's eyes lifting up to look at the girl who entered the room. Her face matched the one on file, if anything she looked just a little bit thinner, but it at least looked like she was getting back on the healthy side. The girl was smiling, which was a good thing. Blake was not outright sure if the smile was fake or not, but it didn't matter all that much. Her job was not to ask the girl about her eating and how things were going on at school. Her job was to train the girl to have better control over her power. The topic about school and such things could be asked, but it would be more so when Blake was sure the girl was fine with such talk. Blake mostly stuck to questions about powers after all when she was in training mode. The schools training uniform just putting her all the more into that mindset.

"Hello there Charlie. I take it that is the name you would like me to call you by then?" Blake asked, just wanting to be sure since the girl's actually name was Charlotte. She would be fine calling her by a nickname however if the girl preferred that. "I'm Blake Harlow and I will be your trainer from this day on. I hope that is alright." Blake said giving her own friendly, but still more or less laid back smile. It took a moment before she found the will to stand up, crunching on her lollypop and making her way over to the girl and offering out her hand to shake. "So Charlie, do you mind telling me to your best understanding what you can do?" Blake asked, referring to the girl's power of course, getting right down to work. She knew what the girl could do, and could feel it, but she always liked to ask to see the students understanding of it.

She had actually never used a power involving time manipulation and was interested in finding out more about this girl and the maximum capabilities of her power. Being able to mess with time was a dangerous thing if it was in the hands of the wrong student. Blake just wanted to make sure Charlie was not the wrong student, or else she would have to make a report to heavily monitor this girl when and if she graduated from BA.

Immediately upon meeting her new trainer Charlie felt uncomfortable. She was stunning, purely stunning. The type of woman she hoped to one day kind of sort of look like and the buzzing of comparing bees started buzzing in her head. She bit the inside of her cheek, the smile remaining on her face. "Yes. Charlie." She chuckled. She hadn't ever identified with the name Charlotte and nobody called her that anyway except for her mother.

Charlies eyes wandered to the candy crunching between Blake Harlows teeth.

"I'm a time manipulator. I can slow down, speed up, stop, and repeat moments to create a deja vu effect." She said as her eyes returned to her trainers. "Ive been told it might be possible to time travel within reason but i'm not at that point." She sighed, her arms finding their way across her chest. She really had never taken training as seriously as she should have and felt as if she was paying the price now that she had to stand there and reflect on her progress or lack there of. Stupid girl with stupid priorities.

"Mind if I ask about yours?" It was good to know considering how different every mutant was, even ones with mutations of the same title varied from person to person, which made training sometimes difficult.

Blake had not meant to make Charlie uncomfortable, and if she knew that she was she would have attempted to at least make things a little better. She could not really help her look after all, since that was just a natural thing, and she didn't even have any makeup on today. Not feeling the need to get all pretty when she was going to be training someone. Her hair was at least pulled back into a low pony tail, one that you could easily tell she just sort of made without thinking about it too much. Normally she liked her hair out, but when she trained she didn't want it to possibly get in the way. Granted with Charlie's power, she probably would be able to let her hair down. Funny how her hair used to be really short and she was a tomboy growing up and still half way was. Heck as a kid she wore all her brother's hand me downs, and her name rhymed with her one of her brother's name. She didn't come from like a wealthy and sexy looking family; she just lucked out in a way.

Blake gave a nod to Charlotte confirming that she did in fact prefer to be called Charlie, so that was what Blake was going to call her. She caught the girl's eyes widening at her and blinked for a moment. Wondering if maybe the girl had a sweet tooth herself. Already reaching into a small personal bag that she had brought with her along with her special training bag. She listened closely as Charlie went on to explain her power and the extent of what she could do and what she could possibly do. Still rummaging through her bag to pull out a lollypop and a bag of gummy worms and held them up and sort of wiggles the items for Charlie to pick one if she like. "Do you like candy? If so feel free to take what you like and if not, no problem." Blake said simply because if Charlie didn't want any candy then that just meant Blake had more to keep her candy issue happy.

The question was asked back then, which Blake could understand and was not going to keep it hidden from the girl. They were training together after all and it was important to know what each other could do. "You could say I'm a copycat. I can copy any mutant’s ability but take on their side effects that come with it. I also can sense powers, in other words mutants. That is why I recruit kids here as well." Blake provided Charlie with the information she had asked for and then some. Figuring it didn't hurt to just let the girl know such things. "Do you have any questions before we get started?" Blake asked then after a moment, crunching down on her lollypop until it was no more now.

She shook her head immediately, instinctually, when she was offered candy. That little knob in her head screaming at the thought of food, especially sugar. Back when she was sick, she limited herself to half an apple a day. On fat days she'd eat half an apple and a cup of popcorn simply because it was filling and didn't cost her too many calories. On those days she'd bloat. Candy? That was just out of the question.

Her doctors had tried to bribe her with it. That, and peanut butter which she was instructed to eat every day in heaping spoonfuls. Just the sight of the sticky, brown goop made her stomach churn.

"I'm OK." She said with a nod as she listened to the woman speak about her own ability. She'd heard of similar ones before. It made sense why she'd be a good trainer. "I don't think I have any questions. Lets get to it." She said flashing another smile for the sake of good energy. Quite frankly, she was already feeling tired and wanted to go back to her bed.

Charlie said not to the candy and that was that. Blake was not going to push it and finished up her own lollypop before placing the one she had in her hand into her pocket and opening the bag of gummy worms. Sticking her hand into the bag, grabbing a few, and already tossing them into her mouth. She was planning on waiting a little bit before going into eating some more candy, but the bag was already out and after offering it to the other female, she felt the desire to eat some herself now. So she did, and they were as chewing and yummy as ever; possibly making her a little less lady like a a few stuck out of her mouth, but she didn't chew with her mouth open or anything like that. She waited until her mouth was gummy worm free before opening it to speak.

"Alright, well if there are no questions, then yes we can get right to it." Blake said as she put the bag of gummies on the ground and got the lollypop out of her pocket; it was one of her homemade ones that she felt like she was going to have to need to help her with her own side effects and possible side effects she was going to get from the girl. Having made her own lollypops with medication mixed into them to help with headache and such, while still satisfying her sweet tooth. "I'm just going to copy your power as well, but I think it will still be best if you have physical contact with one another. Is that alright with you?" Blake asked as she moved over closer to the girl and she started to suck on the lollypop. Already picking up on the girl's power and ready to use it as well to understand it a little bit better.

"I figure we should first try with something small, like slowing time down." Bake said, already holding something to drop to see how fast it would fall with it being slowed down. They were also facing the clock so there was that. "It's okay if you can't do it right away. Just the goal." Blake pointed out as she offered out her hand to the other girl for their form of contact if the girl had said she was okay with it.

Charlie firmly nodded when Miss Harlow asked if they could have physical contact. She moved closer to the trainer, like she'd done so many times before with other trainers, but for some reason today the idea of being touched made her want to rip her skin off. Her heart was beating at an accelerated rate and she could feel her pores starting to ooze sweat. Her body was still so foreign to her. She didn't feel like it was her own and to be touched? After talking and fixing and whatever else to her body over the past few weeks, plus all the hell she went through before that was daunting.

"Slow down time." Charlie repeated, closing her eyes trying her best to concentrate. "I can do it." She assured her. She needed to be sure of herself. She used to be so fucking confident and now here she was doing basic shit she learned when she was 13 and straining herself.

After several long minutes Charlie let out a breath of air and finally got the second hand on the clock to start slowing down, first seconds, then forcing it to stand nearly completely still, moving every minute, though time and space felt normal for the duo. "Did it." She sighed relieved.

Blake was pleased that the girl agreed, but could still see that the girl was a bit nervous or something about it. Blake figured it was probably something to deal with why the girl was in the hospital, but she was not really sure. She had known a lot of kids that did not like being touched because of their power and what it could possibly do to others. Still, Charlie should have felt at ease with Blake, she could copy the girl's power after all and it was not like she was going to try and hurt the other girl. It was Charlie's call if she wanted to talk about anything and it was also the girl's call if she didn't want to touch Blake. It would make Blake have to use the power as well and hope that she used it the right way like Charlie would do it, but she could do it.

She already knew now more or less what dog tag she was going to have to change into in order to work well enough with this girl without upsetting her. When Charlie repeated what Blake had asked her to do, Blake tossed the ball up into the air and watched the other girl, more so just going to listen out to hear when the ball would hit the floor. Sure there was gravity to play a role in the rate of something falling, but time did as well. For the rate of which something was affected by gravity to be the time it took for it to hit the ground. "I see." Blake said when Charlie said that she did it, Blake having her eyes open the whole time. Looking from the clock, to the falling ball that was falling at a slower rate than it normally did, Blake counting mentally until the ball would hit the ground and keeping the number in her head.

Once the ball would hit the ground, Blake gave a small nod. "Alright, that was good. You can stop now. How do you feel?" Blake asked as she would wait for the clock to start ticking at its normal rate before she would go over to her papers to right things down from what she collected herself and what Charlie would say.

How did she feel? She felt fucking exhausted and it took everything she had not to snap at the trainer. Her body was defeated, she'd just been in rehab and breathing had been an intensive labor let alone defying time and space. "Fine." She said, "A little dizzy." She leaned against the wall for support. "Ok. A lot dizzy." She felt like a failure.

"I really degressed." Charlie said as she raked her fingers through her hair. "Do you think i'll get back to where I was or have to start all over?" She really didn't want to be held back. She knew it was a possibility if she wasn't at a certain level by the time she graduated and she was now going into her senior year pending her final exams.

Blake needed to know how Charlie felt in order to be able to write everything down and gauge just how much the girl was able to do after so long without sticking to her training or using her power. It would help if Charlie was as honest as she could be and gave Blake as much detail of how she felt as she could. Blake figured that was self-explanatory so was not planning on pushing too much on the subject. Blake wrote done the fine and how Charlie said she felt a little dizzy. Blake looking up at Charlie when she leaned against the wall to get support. Mmm...not being fully honest with me.[//i] Blake noted to herself and then wrote down what Charlie admitted to the fact that she was really dizzy. Blake grabbing the chair she had and taking it over to Charlie so she could have a seat. "It's alright. You have been out of practice. We will take a quick break for a moment." Blake said as she set the folder down and handed Charlie some water for the girl to drink while she sat.

Blake was responsible for the students she was training after all and she did not want to send the girl back to the infirmary when she had just gotten out. She clearly didn't look upset but nor did she outright smile at the moment. Unsure how Charlie would take such a display, but her tone was light and friendly. "I think you will get back to where you were. Just going to take some work and maybe some extra training sessions, but if you push yourself and work at it, I'm sure you will be at your past level." Blake said as she pulled out her lollypop and popped it into her mouth and began to enjoy it while they were taking this little break. "You did really well for not having used your power by the way." Blake pointed out, wanting to prove to Charlie that she was capable of getting back to her past level of skill, she just needed to work at it was all.

Charlie nodded and sat down in the chair graciously taking the water. "Thank you," She was so embarrassed, this was an absolute disaster. Her entire body was so weakened from her time away, as well as the damaged she'd caused by becoming so thin. Everything about her was week from her powers, to her immune system, to her ability to hold herself up.

"I hope so." Charlie said in response to Blake who seemed rather optimistic despite Charlie's weak display. She was lucky to have Blake, other trainers wouldn't be so gracious. Charlie sighed. "Thank you... It just doesn't feel right." She admitted as her fingers ran through her hair, her tell tail nervous habit. "I just don't feel like me again yet and it's so frustrating." She didn't mean to vent but it was coming out like vomit, "I miss who I was before all of this. Before I was the sick skinny girl or whatever." She chose those words over the more cruel ones, the ones with her disease. "I just want things to be back to normal and I get that I have to work for it but I just wish I could skip that, and it just be right again."

"No problem." Blake said giving Charlie a small smile to let the girl know that it really was okay. This sort of thing happened, even with people that did have a lot of practice with their power. Plus Blake had asked something big right off the bat for Charlie to do, but it was on purpose. She need to gauge just how much work she was going to need to do with the girl and were her current level was. According to what had been written in the past she did go down from what she used to be able to do without feeling major side effects, but that was to be expected. Blake switches out her dog tags to be wearing the wolf one, feeling that it was the best one to wear when working with Charlie. Blake looked at Charlie when she said that she hoped so, Blake easily peeking up the Charlie was likely not feeling so confident. Blake was careful about moving over the other seat to sit sort of next to and across from Charlie. She didn't want to make the girl feel like she had to talk but she wanted to show that if Charlie wanted to talk she was listening.

Blake didn't say anything and just listened and Charlie spoke to her, nodding to show that she was in fact listening and understanding what the girl meant. Sure Blake might not have been able to relate on all levels of what Charlie was going through, but she could still understand it and put herself in the younger female’s shoes to understand better. "Thank you for sharing that with me Charlie. If I may, I just want to say that I can feel that you are a strong person. You showing up here and doing your best in training clearly shows me that you are working towards it and with that kind of attitude things should settle back in. Not saying that it’s going to be easy and I wish I could help you just skip through all of the work too, but if I did that with your power, I likely throw time out of whack and just bad things." Blake said, figuring that such a task would probably kill her and she doubted that even she or Charlie could ever move time ahead in such a way.

"I know I'm just some adult and you probably don't really trust me at the moment and don't yet another adult telling you what you should be doing, so I won't. Just know that I'm here if you need anything and will do what I can to help you get back to your previous level. With you working with me, I'm sure we will get there in no time." Blake said with a smile, then putting her lollipop back in her mouth because it would have been slightly difficult to talk with it in her mouth. She just hoped she didn't over step anything with Charlie, knowing that she had to be careful with this girl after what she had been dealing with.

Blake's speech had a combination infurating, and calming effect on Charlie. She said words that she knew. It was going to be work. Charlie couldn't speed through this and she hated that. That was perhaps the biggest downfall to her abilities, that she was so damn used to fast forwarding through the crap, that when she had crap she actually had to go through it made it so much worse, and she didn't know how to deal with those kinds of emotions. She hated it so much.

Her head nodded. "Thanks." She said with a shrug. "I know.. i know I'm working hard and I'll get better and with time it'll come but I just hate it." She sighed but appreciated Blake not forcing herself on her. She really appreciated that.

"Thanks Miss Harlow." She said, "It's nice to know that someone in this institute isn't trying to force things out of me... or into me." In a lot of cases. "It's refreshing."

"No problem. Hope I didn't bore you with that whole talk." Blake said as she leaned back in her chair and stretched a little. She didn't really like to be that whole boring adult that let the kids know what was what. They should have already known that when an adult was saying something they were not saying it for their own health. Well maybe some of them were but Blake for sure was not. She went through things to and could understand just wanting to get thorough everything faster and be done with it. Yet things didn't get easier just because you got older. You still had drama you had to deal with. The drama sometimes was the same while other times it was different and possibly harder to deal with. There was no way of knowing what was ahead in the future so fast-forwarding was risky. So the way Blake saw it, it was best to enjoy the present and the moment.

Blake nodded and chuckled a little at being called Miss Harlow, she liked it, was used to it, but she felt like with this girl it was best to form a close bond with her and get her to trust her a little more. "You can call me Blake if you like." Blake offered since calling someone by their last name was formal and not really a friendship kind of deal. Blake did find the next bit that Charlie was saying. Clearly the girl did not like too many adults and didn't trust the staff because of it. Blake assumed it was because of the weight thing, but everyone was doing it for her sake after all. Just trying to look after her and protect her like they were supposed to. She did understand not liking it however so she was not going to go into it too much. "Forcing things out of anyone never really works. Unless it’s like the torture kind of force." Blake pointed out with a small smile and munched on some more gummy worms in her little bag.

"It said in your training file that you were also doing a little bit of some physical training. Was that correct?" Blake asked, basically getting at if Charlie was learning how to defend herself since her ability could only do so much if Charlie had gotten into a fight.
