Home is where the heart is. That was the saying, right?
Addy was glad for it, as her dorm was becoming more and more like home, not that her birthplace had ever been anything of the sort. She doubted it would ever be and had no desire to return. It was not a time she liked to linger on, which was exactly why she was putting it out of her mind now.
She had made herself comfortable on the floor of the/her sitting/bed room in tracksuit pants and a daggy singlet top, cross-legged with her hair pulled away from her face. Meditation was the key to keeping her powers in control, and she’d become quite used to the activity now anyway, even far enough so that she had begun to enjoy it. Today though was different, instead of using meditation to confine her mutation, she was attempting to use her power for the first time, intentionally of course.
It sounded logical to be doing this outside, but she didn’t fancy being rained upon, if something went wrong. Instead she had opened one of the windows and situated herself right on front of it, hoping that it was enough contact for her to actually do it properly. Ready to begin and with nerves churning in her belly, Addison took a breath and let her eyes slip shut.
Focusing her mind she thought of the sun becoming covered with clouds. The steady beam of sunlight did not falter against her eyelids, so she tried harder. Was it dimming? No, she couldn’t tell without looking. Breathing again she released it through her nose and relaxed her shoulders, attempting to picture it in her mind. She had to be able to control this without relying on her emotions, it was way too dangerous.
Yet no matter how hard she tried, the light against her eyelids did not change. Until the front door to the doom slammed opened and Addison squeaked in surprise, jumping up. As if on cue is began to rain, slanting through the window and dousing her in water.
Of course it did.
Wrapping her arms around herself, Addy was struck with a sudden chill and hurried to close the window, flicking her now damp hair out of her face. “Freaking sky. Freaking rain,” she muttered with a dark murder look in her gaze. “And the rain…and just, and the door……ugh, frick, frick, frick.” Turning to the front door, she settled into a glare to serve to whoever it was that had walked the hell in.
