Like You Might Make A Mistake (Tim)

Frowning, Luxanna stared somewhat dumbfounded at the blue computer screen in front of her; Technology wasn't really her thing, never had been. So, needless to say, she had no idea what she had done or why the computer had decided to end its suffering on this particular day. Especially now that she actually needed it to work. It was almost like she broke everything she touched. Well, if it was part of the line that involved technology anyways. She could barely keep a phone alive, how did they expect her to operate a computer hundred times the size?!

Groaning, the brunette pushed her forehead against the screen, ''Pretty please, pretty little computer, don't be so blue,'' she whispered, pressing her eyes shut. Leaning her head back, the adaptor rubbed her temples in sheer frustration. Well, that was it then, it seemed. She knew enough to know that the blue screen with the various errors listed wasn't a good sign; Or so she assumed. Really, she didn't know jack shit.

Maybe it helped if she used the mouse to randomly click around the screen? Yes? Yes? No. There wasn't even a cursor to move. Great. Splendid. Why did she even bother? Seriously, writing for hand was the safer option and she should have gone with that to begin with.

Maybe she could ask Jack to come help her out? Though, he didn't exactly strike her as the kind of person who knew how to fix computers. He was more the type who... Okay, she wasn't going to go there. The images that put into her head was far too crude for her innocent and pure mind.

''Why do you hate me?'' she muttered at the screen. ''What did I ever do to you?'' She did her homework, she didn't break any rules, she did as she was told and she was kind to people. Sure, she didn't go to church or anything, but somehow she doubted the debate over whether or not there really was a God, had much to do with computers. If he did exist, he didn't strike her as the type to worry about such trivial matter.

''I'll give you a...'' she stopped, frowning, ''Whatever it is computers like.''

She was there. Though Tim kept telling himself that made sense, what with this being a computer lab and her being in computer club with him. Of  course he knew she was in computer club with him. They seemed to be in nearly every club together, which was totally a coincidence, not that Tim wouldn't have signed up with a club just to be close to a cute girl (he totally would). It just so happened to work out that he was in this club with Lux.

Who now faced the blue screen of death. Now, Tim knew a fair bit about computers, seeing as he spent most of his spare time on one, often blogging and stuff. So when he saw that, he knew at least three ways of attempting to fix it, depending on what precisely caused the blue screen of death in the first place. He figured that Lux knew at least something about computers, but she appeared to be, well, freaking the fuck out came to mind ,though of course Tim would never say something so crass, especially not to Lux. He could hear her too, since the lab was quiet and, well, she, well, wasn't. He almost smiled as she attempted bribery. He wanted to say something cool and witty, something like "they like having their hard drives filled" or maybe "it's probably just hot." No, wait, that last one was stupid. Tim was stupid. He couldn't just approach her, that would be... could he use stupid again? Well, he was using it anyway: that would be stupid.

So he shifted, looking over at her. She looked cute even when she was frustrated and panicky. Wait, she was frustrated and panicky. Get the heck outta your chair Tim. Walk toward her. Yeah, that's totally working. No, no, don't walk the other direction. You can be helpful and friendly. Just approach the---god, she even smells good. Tim, focus! The screen. you're a nerd. This is your time. Shine, baby shine!

"Uhhhhhhh," came out of him, which was at least noise, so that was something. At least he hadn't chirped like a bat. Go him. "Sooooooo, uhhh, your computer, it, uh, doesn't look so... good," brain do work and think stuff. Go Tim. Huzzah.

Turning her head at what sounded like a constipated cow, Luxanna scrunched her eyebrows at the sight of the other boy. She was fairly sure she had seen him around, though she didn't say anything. In a moment of utter confusion, the brunette simply sat there, looking at him and blinking while trying to wrap her brain around the sudden approach. A pause followed with what seemed to be awkward enough to make even the Devil himself crawl back into his hole and roll into a fetus position while calling out for his mother.

Oh right. She was supposed to say something, yeah? That's what people did. Right. But what was she going to say besides stating the obvious? But then again, he had already done that. And Luxanna wasn't exactly the best at conversing with people; She never had been, and males specifically made her feel a little extra uncomfortable. Well, besides Jack. Jack had somehow managed to piss her off and then become her best friend. Funny how some things turned out, yeah?

Right. Conversing.

''U-huh.. Yeah.'' She turned to face the computer again. ''I don't think it likes me very much.'' There. That was good enough. Though, even that was enough to make her heart race a little bit faster and make her palms clammy. Was it normal for people to approach others they had never talked about and state... Well, things like that? Maybe he was new-- No, she had seen him around. So, that couldn't be the case.

Turning her head again, the adaptor squinted her eyes, ''I hope you weren't close.''

She's being funny, laugh, Tim, laugh! And he did, though it came out as a serious of very nervous sounding chuckles that wouldn't have been out of place on a serial killer. He attempted to smile too, but his face apparently decided this wasn't going to happen. Stupid brain was supposed to be helping make this thing happen here, not causing him yet more problems. Stupid, stupid brain.

Weren't close: "No! No, I, uh, I use that one," he pointed at the computer he had literally just left from. He scooted over a bit, squinting to read the various data on the blue-screen. "Uhh, were you, uh, doing, something?" he asked, wanting to immediately hit himself in the head the moment he said it. He might as well just stand there and talk like a bat. That would be ever so much better, wouldn't it? He licked his lips and started to lean over, before becoming aware that this meant getting closer to Lux. So he sort of shimmied his body over and attempted to move away from her yet closer to the computer. He could tell that the screen was reflected on his glasses, and he was suddenly wishing he had a cool ability like talking to machines.

Fortunately, normal humans could talk to machines if they knew the right language. Tim did, more or less. He blinked. "I think I can fix this," he said, unable to keep the surprise out of his voice. He read over the text some more, nodding slowly, "Yeah, I can totally fix this. It's fixable. This thing is," he pointed at the screen, because obviously Lux would have absolutely no idea what he was referring to if he didn't.

Moving her eyes to the computer he was pointing at, Luxanna nodded slowly, ''Ah. I see.'' Well, at least she knew now that jokes wasn't her strong suit; Check. ''I was... Writing. Homework.'' Lux looked back at her screen and shrugged. Really, it shouldn't be something that was nearly enough to make it die, right? Again, technology wasn't her strong suit and for all she knew, she might have just hit the wrong button. Was there a button for instantly killing a computer? She knew zombies had one of those; Damage to the brain, but that was as far as her 'instant death' knowledge went.

Running a hand through her hair, Luxanna sighed. Yes, she did notice how he was awkwardly moving around, but instantly decided to push it away from her mind; It'd only make her even more uncomfortable if it meant focusing on just how close or far someone was from her. She wasn't exactly a 'close contact with strangers or anyone but Nikky' kind of girl.

''Really?'' She was surprised too, as she had half expected there to be no salvage of the evil machine. Maybe part of her had hoped she could watch it burn for swallowing up her work, but then again she had to remind herself that it was probably her fault all along. And she'd feel bad for watching the poor thing get tossed away. Heck, knowing her she'd adopt it and keep it in her room out of sheer guilt. Maybe there was room behind her furby collection... Oh right. If he wanted to fix it, she needed to move out of the way. Sliding the chair out from the table, the brunette stood and moved out of the way, ''What's wrong with it?'' she asked, a faint smile brushing over her lips; It was more of an awkward gesture than a generally happy one.

''And you don't have to-- I mean, it's totally fine-- If you're busy--'' Pressing her lips the girl fell silent, frowning at her inability to say something without rambling.

Homework in a computer lab, yeah, he really should've called that. He was technically doing that. Part of him wanted to suggest that maybe Lux should use a flash drive in the future, but he definitely wasn't going to do that. Maybe when they were finished and he did some data restoration. Saying it now would just make things worse.

She seemed almost as surprised as he was to hear that he could fix it. Tim nodded. "Yeah, it's just overloaded from processing some data and stuff. I should even be able to cache some of the loose data and save whatever you were doing, just in case your word processor doesn't manage it or something," that much he could prattle off, since he could mostly say it at the screen and not look at the pretty girl sitting next to him. She seemed almost surprised to find that he'd help, and Tim's eyes widened.

"What? Oh, no, I can totally do this now. I wasn't doing anything important," he waved and went "pst" with his teeth. He actually got stuck on that for a little while, sort of shifting about and moving, his brain clearly deciding that he needed to do this. He seemed to realize after a while and dragged the last one out before working his lips over. He jerked a thumb behind him. "I've, uh, got a flash drive. It's in my bag, the flash drive. I can use the flash drive. Just hold on while I get my flash drive," and he backed up, holding out his hands as if Lux was about to sprint off. He would end up bumping into a desk first, which made him wince.

Wow, did he suck at this. He just needed to get the stupid flashdrive and stop trying to think.

Blinking, Lux had to admit she honestly had no idea what he'd just said. There was something about processing and date, but that was about as much as she understood. ''Right,'' she said, the uncertainty obvious in her voice. No, she wasn't going to win any Nobel Prizes for being a computer genius anytime soon, that much was obvious. Heck, all she really knew how to do was press the buttons on her phone and turn a TV and the DVD on. That was as far as the brunette's expertise went.

Man, wasn't he putting her completely to shame. It was actually sort of amusing when she thought about it. And she was apparently lucky for choosing the right timing to have these kinds of issues.

''Thank you,'' Luxanna chirped, her smile widening. She'd hate to have forced him into helping when he didn't really want to, but she wasn't exactly the kind of person who pushed a subject longer than what it needed to be. Rubbing her upper arm. Smiling at his constant clarification and mentioning of the flash drive, Luxanna nodded. ''Flash drive, got it,'' she said, a chuckle falling from her lips. Well, at least he was trying his hardest not to make her confused and seemed to wanting to make sure he didn't come off as creepy, which was actually something she could relate to. Damn, wish she had thought of that.

Though, before she could continue the thought process, the poor thing crashed into a desk and the sudden noise filled the silent computer lab. Luxanna flinched; Which was pretty usual, seeing as how naturally skittish she was. Ironically enough, horror movies didn't seem to have the same effect on her. ''Gosh. Are you okay?'' she asked, concern filling her voice as she made her way over, hesitantly putting her hand on his shoulder.

''Do you need to go see the nurse? I think she's on duty today...''

"You're welcome," Tim managed, thus proving that he could, in fact, speak at command. He actually smiled then, mostly because his brain was congratulating him on getting a thank you from Lux. He would probably do a happy little dance if she wasn't, you know, looking at him and stuff. Plus there was the whole bit about his repeating flash drive like he'd be able to summon it via magic. Man, object summoning, yet another ability that would be so much cooler than the one he got. Though maybe he would have had better luck if he'd tried using echolocation to cross the room, what with the whole walking into things bit.

And she seemed concerned for him, which nearly had Tim gaping in surprise. Then she touched him, actually, physically put her hand on his shoulder, which had Tim staring at the hand. Of course his first thought was that he wasn't washing his should again, which felt stupid even when he thought it so he immediately replaced it with a reminder that she was, in fact, concerned about him. There was something about a nurse in there, which wasn't helping. Tim had seen the nurse and after a few runs of explaining that nosebleeds were totally common side effects, he'd decided to just try patching himself up.

"What? No, I'm fine. Just fine. Super fine," he lowered his voice for the last one, which, of course, immediately made him feel like an idiot. He stood there for a few moments, then scooted. "Gotta get that flash drive. Which is right..." he began fumbling at his bag, which he'd set next to the desk. "Right... uh, right... here!" he pulled out an impressive looking flash drive, grinning like an idiot. He nodded, then seemed to forget what he was supposed to be doing with it. Something with a computer...

Another one of those awkward pauses seemed to follow and Luxanna instantly felt insecure about the whole thing. Had it not been the right move to put her hand on his shoulder? He seemed to be staring at it, and it just made her feel even worse about it. Well, at least she could remember that for future references, right? No touching strangers; Check. Though, some of the reason for why it made her feel so bad was because she too got uncomfortable whenever someone she didn't know casually touched her like that, and it made her mentally curse at herself for being so ignorant.

She should have used her head and not instantly tried to mother the poor thing.

''That's good,'' the brunette chirped and lowered her hand, folding the both of them behind her back as he moved away. Again, she scolded herself for the stupid movement on her part. Luckily, the boy offered them both some space as he went digging through his bag. Exhaling, Luxanna took a few steps back towards the computer she had originally used, pulling her hair over her shoulder.

The grin had Luxanna too in turn grinning right back; There was something oddly fascinating about smiling people. It made her happy, regardless of her knowing them or not. Scratching the back of her neck awkwardly, Luxanna used her thumb to point at the computer behind her, ''Well, it's all yours. Clearly, these things only break when I touch them, so...'' she chuckled nervously.

Good, nearly chirped, and she was giving him space. Tim wasn't sure if the space was a good thing or a bad thing though. His brain was a little better able to process, which was good, but he kind of wanted her to keep touching him, which was... bad? Yeah, bad on many, many levels. Best just to focus on the task at hand. Get to computering and stuff.

All his, yep, Tim nodded. But he quickly turned it into a shake. "oh, no, that's totally not true! It's probably just the machine. These school computers aren't really good," that was totally a lie. They were great; that's what happened when you had rich people funding the school. Tim was totally going to blame the computer anyway though. "They, like, suck and stuff. Bad. Do this all the time. Mine just went out on me, like, yesterday. Three times even. It was just horrible," yeah, that was so working. He sat down at Lux's computer, working his flash-drive into it. His hands then began flitting across the keys, pulling up command prompts. He knew that there were workarounds, and he knew what most of them were for this computer. First though, first he had to reroute the data to dump into his flash drive so he could comb through it. It would suck if he managed to do all this and lost her homework anyway.

Tim got focused on the task though, momentarily forgetting that there was, in fact, a girl in the room. A live one. A live one that didn't mind talking to him. "Uh," he said, licking his lips. "I'm, uh, not that, uh, distracted if, uh, ah, there it is," he punched in something and watched as the computer began rebooting itself, sighing with relief.

It was probably a good thing that Luxanna was as gullible as she was and believed him, though maybe it wouldn't have mattered all that much to begin with. Simply hearing him say that was enough to reassure her. Chuckling, the brunette nodded, ''I see. Well, I suppose that's good then,'' she said, but frowned, ''Well, not that they're bad, but that they...'' she trailed off as he sat down and started typing away while bringing up a lot of odd looking boxes onto the screen.

Yeah, it was lucky she had ended up being in the same room as someone who actually knew what they were doing. She would have made things worse, and it was not because she was insecure or doubted herself. It was a fact. She truly was as bad with stuff like this just like she claimed she was.

Moving closer, Luxanna sat down on the chair beside him. Keeping her hands folded and intertwined in her lap, she made sure she didn't got too close. Invading his private space once was more than enough, she was sure. ''Wow, that's amazing,'' she expressed, leaning somewhat closer, focusing her gaze on the screen. ''You're pretty good at this stuff, huh,'' she laughed. ''Impressive - and again, thank you. A bunch.''

It seemed like she totally bought his thing about the computers. Who would do that? Was he really that convincing? He usually didn't have that much luck convincing people to believe him. Well, he liked to think he got people convinced on his blog, but that was different. When he did that, he was talking to a camera and stuff, not to an actual person, at least, not directly. Maybe she was just being nice. Yeah, that had to be it. Pretty and nice. Awesome.

Tim wasn't originally aware that Lux had sat next to him. It wasn't until he looked up after his little verbal burst that he realized that she'd just sat right next to him, as if that was totally normal and not at all something that Tim was going to talk about in his vlog later, private vlog, of course. Then she was looking at the screen and talking about how amazing he was. Clearly Tim was sleeping, sleeping and she was going to end up leaning over and kissing him except just as she got close he'd wake up and be all tangled in his sheets attempting to make out with a pillow.

For the third time this week.

"Pfft," he said, waving it off before crossing his arms, "I just, this is my thing. Not, like, my power thing. That's talking to bats. It's stupid. No, like, computers are my thing. I have a vlog and a blog and a YouTube Channel and everything," oh God, that was lame, so lame. Talk about social justice. SOCIAL JUSTICE WAS HOT NOW. "I post stuff on human rights and stuff. It's super important," he said, actually meaning a bit of it, though he sounded way too casual. The screen was booting up. "But yeah, it's no problem. Uh, you'll need to, uh, log in, so I can, uh, try to cache your stuff..." he scooted over, trying to give Lux space to type without actually getting in her way.

''Talking to bats?'' she asked, arching her eyebrow, ''Really? That's pretty cool. Can they talk back?'' She had always wondered what animals were thinking, and having the ability to actually ask them... Well, needless to say; She envied him. And she had always found it interesting that people actually found something to talk about while in front of a camera. Sure, figuring out topics might not have been all that hard, but to actually sit there and speaking into a camera... She didn't know how they did it, because she knew she would have been incredibly awkward about it. Like, to the point where she'd end up rambling about kittens. ''You should show me sometimes,'' she said genuinely interested. She then offered him a smile; Actually, more of a grin, but who cared about details, right?

Nodding, Luxanna leaned forward. Reaching for the keyboard, she started filling out her information; Scrunching her eyebrows as she tried remembering her password. It was one of those school provided ones she just never seemed to remember right off the bat. It surely didn't help that there was someone else sitting right there, staring either. After a few attempts she managed to get it right. ''There. Sorry, it took so long,'' she chuckled awkwardly, ''I never remember those.''

Luxanna pulled back in her seat once more and started twiddling her thumbs awkwardly as she bit her lower lip. The fact that her homework might have been lost had completely vanished from her mind. It didn't really seem all that important anyways, as her biggest concern had in fact been the computer itself. ''But, human rights? Is it involved with SPECTRE then, or just human rights in general?''

"They so can!" replied Tim, picking up Lux's excitement. "They're actually kind of interesting, since they're super into the environment and stuff, and they're great listeners, since they're all, like, used to listening and stuff," Tim nodded enthusiastically and very soon nearly did a dance of excitement. Show her sometime! That meant meeting her again! And doing the talking thing! And showing off his ability, which was cool when he wasn't falling from the ceiling. "Totally," he said, leaning back in his chair, "just let me know when you want to see. We'd have to go to the bats though, but there's this colony that lives in a cave just outside of town that's pretty mellow. It, uh, might take a while, so we, uh, might have to, um, bring lunches or, something," no, that wasn't a date. Stop thinking it was even remotely related to a date. She just thought it was interesting.

She probably wasn't even really listening to him. Probably had just said it to be nice, since, y'know, she was super nice and stuff. Putting in her password and junk. Tim nodded, totally sort of understanding that (why didn't she just change? They'd totally covered how to do that). Then she leaned back, and Tim guided the computer into a safe mode, knowing he'd need to basic stuff to get to the document data.

"Uh, both, really," he said, looking over at her. "There's all kinds of bad stuff in the world without having to worry about SPECTRE. Mutants are kind of my main thing, but I can't release those vids outside the Bellefonte network. But I've done some on some other stuff. Uprisings in Africa, the stuff going down in Russia, stuff like that. We've got to try and make a difference, you know?" Easy for him to say, since he mostly stuck to his keyboard and was probably better known for being the guy who hang-glided into a tree. The computer pulled up stuff, and Tim moved back, gesturing. "You'll need to pull up whatever program you were working with so I can, uh, do my thing and stuff."

The brunette remained silent as she watched him talk about the bats; He practically looked like he was about to bounce out of his chair with excitement, and Luxanna couldn't help but to smile at it. ''I don't doubt it,' she admitted, ''Do you adapt any of their traits? Like flying, being nocturnal or see in the dark? You don't eat insects, do you?'' Another attempt at a poorly done joke, ''Sorry. Bad humor,'' she added quickly and grimaced. ''Did you know that bats can live for over 30 years?'' Why did she know this? She had no idea. It was probably something she had picked up while reading... Something. Man, she really did a lot of reading; No wonder she was socially awkward.

Again, he probably already knew that. Of course he did; He could freaking talk to bats! How cool wasn't that?

She was however very excited over the fact that he actually wanted to show her. Most people seemed to want to hide their abilities or keep them to themselves rather than showing them off. Again, this knowledge was entirely based on Jack, since he basically was her only friend, and he had... Issues with his ability; Emotional duplication and all. ''Really? I'd love that!'' Sounding a little too excited, the girl grimaced yet again, ''And whenever is cool,'' she added, a little less bubbly and more casual.

So far, so good.

Listening intently, Luxanna nodded at his words. ''I don't know, though. Isn't giving it more attention only going to cause more of a fuss? Not that I'd do it any differently, mind you.'' Exhaling, Luxanna tilted her head to the side, her green eyes once again focused on the other boy, ''Then again, that's probably better than people being ignorant.'' Ignorance wasn't really bliss, at least not from what she had experienced. It was so much easier to prepare for something when you knew it was coming rather than have it slapped in your face. Like herself, she was glad she knew ahead of time what her life would end up being like; It gave her time to come to terms with it. ''Do you have a lot of people watching you?''

Doing like she was told, Luxanna once again leaned over for the mouse. Moving the cursor to the word document, she double clicked the icon, ''That,'' she said, nodding towards the screen before turning her head to look at him over her shoulder. A sheepish grin spread over her lips, ''Pretty lame huh. Who many do you know that manage to crash a computer by using word?''
