NAME: Kara Marie Singer
NICKNAME: N/A
AGE: 14
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Bisexual
POSITION: Student
FACE CLAIM: Elle Fanning
POWER:Ice Manipulation
Kara has the ability to create and shape ice into whatever form she wishes. She doesn’t require ice to already exist near her - she can pull moisture from the air around her and freeze it to form the ice she conjures. Because she is so young and her abilities are only just forming, Kara is very limited in what she can do with her powers. Right now she can create small, simple, solid shapes out of ice (nothing much larger than a quarter). She can also create frost over small areas. Her manipulations abilities are not, however, limited to just ice. She can create small amounts of snow, as well.
Strengths:
Once better trained, she will be able to freeze objects, and create weaponry out of ice. Kara will also be able to ‘shoot’ ice from her hands. Her abilities allow her to endure freezing weather conditions with little to no trouble. Infact, when in cold weather, Kara grows stronger. The colder the temperature, the stronger she will become. This also goes for humid weather conditions (if not extremely hot) because there is more moisture in the air.
Weakness/Limitations:
Extreme heat will slow Kara down and make her very, very weak. She will become dehydrated quickly and rendered practically useless. Her powers do not work well in hot temperatures or dry weather conditions. Kara’s ice abilities are easily outmatched by another who can manipulate heavy vibrations, fire, lava, magma, etc. Also, it takes time to build up enough moisture to create any sort of ice or snow, so generally she will not be able to use her gift immediately.
APPEARANCE SECTION: Kara has light brown hair that she is always dying platinum blonde. She has blue-green eyes. The color will look different depending on how the light hits them. Her skin is pale and smooth. She has a small, thin figure and is about average height.
From time to time Kara might wear glasses, though she doesn’t need them. It’s more of a “fashion” thing. Sometimes she lets her hair go for a little too long and her light brown roots will show through at the top of her head, though she tries to stay on top of it. She usually wears her hair down, though occasionally she will have it in a braid or a ponytail.
She also has a scar that runs from the top to the middle of her left thigh. It’s a pretty nasty burn scar. She will generally try to cover it up with clothing, because she does not like being questioned about it’s origins.
MUST HAVE APPAREL: Kara can normally be found wearing jeans, tee shirts and hoodies (despite not minding the cold weather). However, sometimes she can be found in somewhat fancier apparel, like nicer shirts paired with a skirt and heels, or dresses. Often she will be found wearing thick, jet black eyeliner on her eyelids, cat eye style. But, she does have those days where she’s just too lazy to put it on. Aside from that, she doesn’t usually wear much makeup. She’s also usually found wearing a variety of fingerless gloves – from black, lacy gloves that go up to her elbows, to knit rainbow gloves that have buttons down the side. It all depends on the day.
PERSONALITY SECTION: Kara prefers to be more of an outsider. Her ice abilities couldn’t be more fitting, because she can be very cold. She has a hard time making friends because her personality is generally so off-putting. She’s full of sarcastic remarks and borderline rude comments. She’s not afraid to speak her mind. It’s extremely hard for her to open up to people, or to trust them.
Once she does start to open up though, she’s not that bad to be around. She’ll crack a few jokes and smile. Once she trusts you, she’ll be very generous and a completely loyal friend. Even if she doesn’t open up to you, she has a tendency to grow on people easily, despite her lack of a filter.
Some might say that Kara is the poster girl for pessimism. She, however, considers herself more of a realist. Because she views the world as a somewhat crappy place, a lot of her opinions will seem more negative. It will take a lot of time and effort if someone is going to convince her that life is beautiful.
Due to things that happened in her past, Kara is actually afraid of anyone with special abilities. This includes herself. If someone asks her about her abilities, she might start to get angry. This is because she sees her abilities as a giant "Screw you" from the world.
Often times she will seem distant or distracted. Despite how heavily she can feel her more negative emotions (like anger and fear), she will do her best not to reveal what she is feeling. This goes for happiness and excitement as well. She tries to appear as an empty shell. She thinks of it as a way of protecting herself. She is also very stubborn, and sometimes seems like she has an attitude problem.
EXTRA QUIRK: Kara has a huge weakness for romance, though she’d never admit it.
Despite her cold-related abilities, she’s not too fond of cold foods. She loves hot beverages.

WORTHY MENTIONS:
CHILDHOOD: Born on January 6th, 2000, Kara had a pretty good life in the beginning. She and her family have lived Kalispell, Montana for as long as she can remember. She and her sister both attended public school for the first few years of their lives. Kara didn’t have many friends, except for one boy she grew up with, Anthony. Aside from Anthony, all she had was her family, and they were a very tight-knit little group. They spent a lot of time doing things like putting together puzzles, playing puzzles, and of course doing their homework. Her parents were very hard on both she and her sister about their grades. While her sister seemed to accel at everything, Kara seemed to struggle with everything. Thankfully, she had her sister around to tutor her. Kara was always very mature for her age. Despite her lack of book smarts, she could be considered wise beyond her years. If it wasn’t for the fact that she looked like a child, you would never know how young she really was just by listening to her speak.
Anthony grew up next door to the Singer’s. He always sat next to Kara on the bus, and they had most of their classes together. Even though they were young, everyone said that they were in ‘puppy love’ and were meant to be together. Both would deny it whenever the subject was brought up, though. Anthony came to be considered a part of the family. He was over at the Singer’s home almost every day after school. He, too, helped tutor Kara.
ADOLESCENCE: Once Sierra hit age 14, her power revealed itself. There was an incident where Sierra got very emotional, and it started a fire in the home. Everyone escaped except for Anthony, who was trapped and unfortunately did not make it. Both Mr. and Mrs. Singer escaped without a scratch, but the girls each had a few burn marks because they were in the room where the fire started.
Her family didn’t know how to handle it, and they went into shock. Poor Kara was only 10 and had no idea what to think about her sister’s abilities. It seemed like an impossible occurrence. Soon, however, she learned that it was not so uncommon for people to develop abilities as they begin to hit puberty.
But knowing this didn’t stop Kara from blaming her sister for everything that happened. While their home was rebuilt in time, she would never be able to replace Anthony. Instead of being afraid of Sierra, Kara resented her sister. In the few days it took for people from the academy to retrieve Sierra, Kara didn’t speak a word to her.
Needless to say, her parents were quite grateful to have Sierra removed from their home. They viewed her as a monster. They were afraid of her and wanted nothing to do with her. Kara basically disowned, claiming to have no sister.
Due to her parents fear that Kara would end up a “monster” like Sierra, they pulled her out of public school. If she did have abilities, they didn’t want the general public to find out, or risk anyone getting hurt like Sierra had done. She was home schooled for the rest of her time as a “normal human.” Her parents made sure that she never left the house, or spoke to anyone aside from themselves. Sierra was a topic they never spoke of. Despite having not developed any special abilities, Kara’s parents still seemed afraid of her.
Being shut out from the world, along with Anthony’s death, caused Kara to slip into a deep depression. She no longer was a fun-loving and bubbly person. She stayed quiet most of the time. When she did speak, it was mostly sarcastic remarks that left her mouth. In an effort to 'make up' for Anthony's death, Kara took it upon herself to hit the books... Hard. Being homeschooled, she had a lot of time on her hands. Because of this, she was able to overcome everything she once struggled with and started to accel in her studies. She now considers herself very intelligent, and hates when people determine her amount of knowledge by her age. Despite this, she still will sometimes show immaturity that often shows up in the teen years. She can be very selfish and try to make things out to seem like they are all about her.
When she turned 14, she hit puberty as well. While her abilities didn’t do any damage to anyone, Kara still tried to hide them. She didn’t want to be casted out like Sierra. She didn’t want to leave her family, they were literally all that she had. On top of that, Kara had begun to believe that people who had powers were really monsters. And she didn’t want to be a monster herself. She did everything she could to deny it, thinking that maybe she had just imagined it, or maybe they would go away. But after only a few hours, it became harder and harder to try to hide the small things that her abilities led her to do. She couldn’t seem to control it – everything was an accident. And then later that night while eating dinner, she went to pick up a glass of water and frost formed on the outside of it. Her parents were always watching for little things like this, so there was no chance for her to hide it. And of course, soon after she was recruited to Bellefonte Academy. She knew she had to choice, but still, she went down (literally) kicking and screaming.
ADULTHOOD: N/A
SAMPLE: The sound of her parents yelling at each other seeped through the paper-thin walls. In her bed, Kara rolled onto her side and pulled the blankets up over her head. She didn’t want to hear them argue about what to do about her. She didn’t want to hear them call her a monster. She didn’t want to like her sister. Even more than that, she didn’t want to leave her parents. They were all that she had left after the fire – all that she knew.
She threw off her blankets and walked over to the window, taking a seat on the bench in front of it. Outside, the sky would have been pure black, but the streetlights added a little glow so she could make out some of the world outside of her home. This was the closest she’s ever been to outside in four years. And soon, they would take her to the academy… She would feel the sun on her skin again. Kara wondered if it would burn.
She put her hand against the window, a web of frost spread across it from her hand outward. It created an intricate lace-like design. She pulled her hand away and turned in disgust. What was she? Why did this have to happen to her, too?
This was just some messed up way the world was getting back at her for something she never did. The one thing that she feared and hated the most, brewed inside of her. A mixture of anger and sorrow began to stir from her stomach up to her throat. She swallowed it back down. No, Kara didn’t show emotions.
She turned back to the window and began to trace the icy design with her fingertips. Perhaps something good could come of this. Perhaps it wouldn’t be all that bad. Too bad Kara wasn’t the most optimistic person.
