Ricky's hand trembled as he reached for the door leading into the medical offices. Something was wrong, he could feel it. He hadn't felt right for the past few weeks and a chance encounter had encouraged him to learn more of his curious mutation and how it affected his body. He set up appointments with counselors who asked him inane questions and doctors who conducted inane tests. Or, at least, he thought the tests would be inane. His doctor had returned looking far more concerned than Ricky felt comfortable seeing. The boy was handed a folder containing the few pieces of paper that contained his full medical records and directed to take them to a specialist. His only doctor's appointment before the ones he'd just been subjected to was the pre-screening physical and mutation assessment given when a mutant is first identified by the Academy when Ricky was just 11 years old.
Ricky knew where he was going. He'd read the materials he should have memorized when he first got to the Academy regarding the medical and training staff and their roles. He was told to go see another doctor. Ricky hated doctors, every last one of them. He even was supposed to attend the class where the teacher was identified as a doctor. He never met the teacher but Ricky hated him just as much. As soon as Ricky was left to his own devices he left the doctor's office to seek out this... Seiji Lockard who was supposed to work with students. He didn't like barging in on the guy, which was another sign Ricky was not himself, but he was scared. Very scared.
Without knocking Ricky tentatively opened the door leading to Seiji's office and peered in. "Uh, excuse me?" He called with little conviction. "I'm looking for Seiji Lockard?" He mispronounced the first name badly but it wasn't intentional. Ricky wasn't thinking straight and he would never be mistaken for one of the Academy's brightest.
